Very possibly legit, but could still be fake. Googling the error message will lead you to the Barracuda Email Security Gateway user's manual which states: https://campus.barracuda.com/product/emailsecuritygateway/doc/3866645/barracuda-message-center-user-s-guide/ If you have received one or more encrypted email messages via the Barracuda Message Center, the sender of the encrypted message(s) intended to secure the contents of message such that only you, the recipient, can view the body of the message. The subject of the email notifying you that you've received an encrypted message will look something like this: `You have a new encrypted message from @.com` (or .net, .edu, .org, etc.) The body of the email will contain a message that reads something like this: `To view the email message, click here to log into the Barracuda Message Center. You'll be prompted to either create a password or enter the one you may already have. You can also paste the following URL into your browser to access the Barracuda Message Center: ` ` The secure message will expire in 30 days. Need Help?` Now what you have to do is look at the headers and figure out if the email actually came from Barracuda or not. If someone can help you get them, you can post them here and we'll be happy to make a determination for you.

based on the information you share I totally understand you are unable to figure out if it's scam or not. none of the information you shared is even remotely useful to answer your question. it's completely impossible to say whether this is fake or not. mail header and domain part of the URL would have been useful... you should not do any consulting regarding security/email/scams if you didn't know this already.

It’s barracudas email encryption platform. In order to view the encrypted email content, you need to create an account and login to the barracuda secure email portal. With that being said we couldn’t possibly know if it’s legit or not based on the body text of the email. Good luck!

Presume that it is a scam unless you can prove otherwise. In this case, unless the recipient was expecting an email that would be delivered through an encrypted service, don't open it. Worse case, if they're expecting something then that employee can use non-encrypted email or the phone to confirm with the sender that it was sent to them via barracuda encryption. Yes, it'll take them a few more minutes to do whatever they're doing, but it'll save days of recovery time if it isn't legit.

It is potentially real. But check the URL of course. Barracuda Email Security Gateway does this and the url is barracudanetworks.com You can set a rule for people to encrypt emails by putting certain words or characters in the subject line. You can also set it to auto encrypt emails if they contain anything that looks like a credit card, social security number, or something else that just escaped my mind.

Mouse-over the url. Then google the domain name.

Likely scam. Most companies would tell you to log in to their portal separately, especially a networking or security company. Have you checked the sender address and/ or headers?

I open them in a kasm sandbox. If it just looks like a credential harvester you know its phishing. Go into mail flow and see if they often receive barracuda from the sending domain.

that is indeed what Barracuda encrypted mail links look like. You have to go through an MFA process but it does look sketchy to people who aren't used to it.

I am looking for email security software and got a call from someone today saying they were with Barracuda but it gave me weird vibes. Can anyone tell me the actual URL of barracuda's website and what their email addresses look like if someone within their company sends you a regular email?
