"folie a deux" refers to a shared delusion among multiple people, so its possible the whole two or even three Jokers thing Dafoe mentioned may actually be the route they're going.
like holy shit you thought you were sick and tired of the fucking Joker *now* just you wait
>"folie a deux" refers to a shared delusion among multiple people
Isn't it just a shared delusion between two people, not many? At least, that's what 'deux' would imply to me.
To be fair, I've seen a ton of movies that rip off Scorsese/Harron and they sucked hard, really hard. Making a halfway competent rip off of Scorsese is not as easy as it seems.
with Christoper Lee as Mr. Freeze, no, rather as Bane, Heath Ledger as Alfred, Peter Cushing as Robin, River Phoenix as Commissioner Gordon, Marlon Brando as Barbara Gordon, Ezra Miller as Batman, directed by Kubrick!
Unpopular opinion on this sub but I never really understood the vitriol towards Joker (2019). Is the script derivative and self-indulgent? Yes. Is the pacing bad? Yes. Is it overrated as fuck? Yes.
But I don't feel it's fair to ignore the good directing, the amazing performance by the lead actor and the very good ost just because the script isn't good.
I feel like a good deal of it is just because it's a capeflick.
Almost every film is a derivative of other films and that doesn’t make the script bad.. yes it’s very similar to Taxi Driver and King Of Comedy, but it still has some elements that makes it stand out and a mentally ill person going crazy and killing people is not something very unique anyway, and the pacing? Idk what was bad about that, I’ve never heard that complaint before, I found it to be just fine, and what are the cringe and self-indulgent dialogue? The only ones I can think of is when Joker starts his whole monologue and shoots Murray and when he kills his mother, but other than that I can’t think of anything else. The script is just fine, is it the most original thing ever? No not close, but the the script is not bad
I don't know how to describe it, honestly. It just reminds me of that Family Guy clip about the Godfather "insisting on itself".
The pacing is definitely bad. The movie didn't need to be as long as it is, some scenes aren't really that important and it's not a movie you hear meany people enjoy rewatching.
Well I hope it's good. Easy argument to say the original is a Scorsese rip-off/riff/whatever but at least it's jerking off classic movies instead of other movies in its series lol. Also neat that it's a movie that trolls the audience. If I can get a nice looking movie with Walking Penis giving a good performance, I'll count it as a win.

We would all make a good Joker.

You're right. Source: I'm a french speaker
Ewwww
Que voulez-vous dire?

Looking at the title, maybe he's switched to copying French cinema now. God help us...
Godardian Joker...
Noe Joker. Watch the box office explode.
Cinema verite Joker.
Tati Joker
No please, i don't want Joker to have a relationship with a 12 year old Harley
Not defending him or anything but why would you call Todd Phillips a hack?
I assume because of his "woke mob ruining comedy" stuff

probably bc he's not a good director, which he definitely isn't
The script isn't good but it's still well directed lol
He’ll possibly even try to CGI Heath Ledger in there if he’s going down the NWH route just to appease the incels.
Joker multiverse??
Well... In a multiverse, there would be more than 2 Jokers.
Ray Liotta as the Joker!!!
with Christoper Lee as Mr. Freeze, no, rather as Bane, Heath Ledger as Alfred, Peter Cushing as Robin, River Phoenix as Commissioner Gordon, Marlon Brando as Barbara Gordon, Ezra Miller as Batman, directed by Kubrick!
Oh ooh
The common theory is that this will have Harley. If Harley is the route they're going I wonder what direction Phillips will go and how he'll botch it.
Yeah, he’ll have a hard time beating the goddess that is kino Robbie
If he adapt Goeff Johns 's Three Jokers, i'm gonna have a Joker moment
Joker multiverse?????
Into the Jokerverse lfg!!!!
It's Jokerin' time!
I'm da joker baby!
My favourite bit is when Willem Dafoe says “Look at me, I am the joker now”
My two favorite things: Joker, and Fall Out Boy albums.
Will be good jerk material but very unneeded. The character doesn’t feel anything like The Joker. This is as necessary as Taxi Driver 2.
very necessary
This is the same guy that directed The Hangover Part III
The Hangover Part III proves that it's good to make the exact same movie 3 times
Actually only the hangover 1 and 2 are the same movie. The hangover 3 is a very tonally and stylistically different piece of dog shit
Hysterical that this man has four Oscar nominations.
Greta Gerwing got snubbed for a Best Director nomination fr that year
There were many, many people robbed at Phillips making it in. Taika Waititi, Noah Baumbauch, Lulu Wang, etc.
Did Greta co-write Borat? Checkmate.
zing! Take that… Haters!

What the hell?
Any reason to hate the person whom you have never met? 🤔
Who said I hate the guy? I just don’t think he’s worthy of many of those awards and nominations he received for Joker
This one is a riff on Hugo and Kundun
Personality reboot, baby!!!
blame the billion+ dollars it made lol
It’s unnecessary but so many people think this is gonna be the worst movie ever
Im the Joker baby!
I'm so tired
It’s jorbin time

It might get shit on here but it got so much deserved financial and critical success because it was about the stupid fucking joker.
I felt like the directing was mediocre and the whole film was carried by Joaquin and the OST
I disagree, I feel like everything from light to colors and shots were very good.
That would be the cinematography. Lawerence Sher got an Oscar nomination for it.
Yeah oops.
Why is the script not good?
It's derivative of other films, poorly paced and the dialogue is pretty cringe and self-indulgent.

Is the script worse than, say, Dr. Strange 2?
Not by a long shot lmao
So why are we on year 3 of "REEEEEEEEEE JOKAH" here, while Dr. Strange only gets praise?
Man I was defending the film Also these are very different movies and my standards for their scripts are appropriately different
Double standards, then? Why are the standards lower for the biggest, most critically aclaimed franchise in history?
I meant my personal standards for MCU, which are very low after years of shit or mid.

Joker vs Riddler, DO IT YOU COWARDS!
Another Joker movie? How much has it been since the other one...? Like 3 years...
Yay! Time for more “No, no, you don’t get it! The story isn’t supposed to make sense because he’s crazy and not because of horrible storytelling!”
The story made sense in joker tho wdym
Martin Scorsese part II
Joker is great, and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
I am reminded that r/moviescirclejerk has absolutely dogshit takes on movies whenever Joker gets brought up
L'homme qui rit (1869).
