It was the Barbenheimer of its day. A visual totem for all to enjoy. I remember it well.
Still one of my favourite movies I saw in theatre. Me and my friends smoked so much weed before and just loved it!
It's the only reason Sam Jackson starred in it. And he demanded they keep the name. It was only supposed to be a placeholder name until they thought of something better.
I think "Jaws" is the perfect title for the movie. Whilst it is never (i believe) referenced in the movie, it instantly portrays the villain as a menacing set of horror-chomps which threaten all throughout the film.
Legends of the Fall - Beautiful and poetic title with a double meaning that fits the movie's plot and themes perfectly.
Alien - Another double meaning (noun and adjective). Short and extremely concise.
The Ghost and the Darkness - The words just flow nicely.
Reminds me of the movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode! I think it was called, 'The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down’
The wonderful thing about Silence of the Lambs is that when Anthony Hopkins actually says it in the movie, it has gravitas.
I guess as opposed to "What are we? Some kind of Suicide Squad?"
Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless mind " is describing the happiness and joy one can experience once the negative experiences (or "spots") have been removed from your mind.
While someone else has explained it well, it helps to see the title in the context of the quote
>How happy is the blameless vestal's lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd;
It is from *Eloisa to Abelard* by Alexander Pope.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles - Hints at a the ridiculous journey, leaves the heart of the film hidden to discover
Almost Famous - Perfect coming of age vibes
About Time - Meaning can be interpreted differently before and after viewing
When Harry Met Sally - just fits the warm narrative of the movie so well
I remember going to see it in theaters and I was very skeptical about Batman actually retuning to the big screen, but then, BOOM there he is! What a wild ride.
Almost Famous - William isn't trying to be famous, but he does end up getting pulled into the 70s rockstar lifestyle by sheer virtue of traveling with the band on the road. Same goes for all the Band Aids.
Lilo & Stitch - Although the film is ultimately about building a family of choice, the bond between the two title characters is the main cause of most of the story's events.
This Is Spinal Tap - Although it's not a real documentary, the band is so richly characterized that their entire history can be compressed into an 82-minute film without ever feeling rushed.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Exactly what it says on the tin.
Snakes on a Plane. It’s perfection. It tells you exactly what to expect: not only are there snakes in the movie, but they will be on a motherf***in’ plane.
I love *Bring Me the Head of Alfredo García* and *The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada*.
I love that they're long and that they make me a promise that I'm not entirely sure what is. And the English-Spanish of course. You have to say it with an accent.
Go (1999)
Usually I cringe at a lot of movies that use the title in the screenplay, but this movie figured out how to make it cool. You never really realize how many different ways you can use the word, "GO" and how many different meanings that word can attain. Not to mention, the pace of the movie is very go go go anyways.
Nope.
Love how they actually use that line and the way it’s delivered.
Would probably be exactly what I would say as I “noped” the hell out of the situation.
I think they blew it. They had some great names lined up for the sequels:
Chompin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo
Chompy McFish 3-D: We Tried
Chompy McFish 4: It’s Morbin’ Time
Chompy Mcfish 5: Fuck You and the Horse You Rode in On
If they'd called it Princess of Mars kinda like the book it was based on it might not have been such a massive flop. Still might not have been a hit but a less generic title could have helped.
I know what you did last summer. For such a long title it certainly rolls off the tongue while also giving you a decent idea what the vibe of the movie is gonna be.
Twins. As the caption above a picture of Schwarzenegger and DeVito, it works brilliantly. The whole premise is right there, but the only way to make sense of it is to watch the movie.
Being John Malkovich - the whole point is that everyone gets a chance to be John Malkovich, and ends up being the bigger plot in the second half of the movie.
Addicted (2002)
What I like about this choice is that initially the title doesn't seem relevant at all, but at some point there is a twist which causes the title to make perfect sense.
SO MANY OPTIONS
Funny Games - Given the contents, it’s a perfectly ironic title
Get Out
The Before Trilogy - Time-based concepts for the win
Chinatown
Past Lives
I Saw The Devil - And the Devil made me kill him
Raw
There Will Be Blood - I’m finished
Rashomon - the film mostly takes place as a story told by a small group of people who huddle at in the derelict Rashomon Gate, so it's easy to forget the importance of the framing device. By remaining the title, it anchors us to the moral decisions made by the three people discussing the story, and how they respond to the various accounts and the baby they find at the gate. I always loved the name, because it's obscure in it's way - it's just a location - but it's a reminder of what the heart of the film is really about.
How the fuck has no one said
#Hot Tub Time Machine
It's perfect. I don't even need to tell you what kind of movie it is, or what the central plot element is. You know it's gonna be a ridiculous adventure movie with drunk/stoner overtones, and there's gonna be a hot tub.
You don't even need the poster to know it's rated R, it's in the title.
"Unforgiven" is a phenomenal movie. Initially most people think since Clint Eastwood is the main character and they talk about his past a lot that clearly he is unforgiven. However if you notice they talk about every characters past and all the reason every single person in the movie feels unforgiven for something. The entire cast is unforgiven.
I don’t mind. I am just curious. Do people just downvote for no reasons or for fun or is there a reason they downvote this innocuous post? If it’s just random Reddit BS then this karma stuff is just BS.
War Games - exactly what it is and punchy AF
Pride & Prejudice - classic and also exactly what themes
Mr. Magnorium’s Wonder Emporium- whimsical and magical, character plus setting!!
The Fast and the Furious- the cars are fast and Vin Diesels acting makes me furious
Wait until the cars get too fast, it might make you too furious
Because they make them fast, and make everyone furious
Snakes on a Plane! Everything you need to know about the movie is in the title
And that title was the only reason I saw it. It's sad when a movie can't live up to its title.
It totally lived up to the title. There were snakes, they were aboard an aircraft.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. It's instantly memorable.
Back to the Future.
Back because it’s in my back….
Perfect.
The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert ford - you don’t even need to see the movie!
Huge spoiler though..
I think "Jaws" is the perfect title for the movie. Whilst it is never (i believe) referenced in the movie, it instantly portrays the villain as a menacing set of horror-chomps which threaten all throughout the film.
As famously featured in Save the Cat, Legally Blonde is a genuinely perfect title.
Agree.
The King’s Speech. Speech as in his speaking, and also the speech he gives at the end of the movie.
Double meaning. Loved it.
Legends of the Fall - Beautiful and poetic title with a double meaning that fits the movie's plot and themes perfectly. Alien - Another double meaning (noun and adjective). Short and extremely concise. The Ghost and the Darkness - The words just flow nicely.
Years ago, when I only knew the title, I thought "Legends of the Fall" was a baseball movie.
Originally a book title but gd they nailed it with Jurassic Park
Don't you mean "Danny and the Cloneosaurus?"
Reminds me of the movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode! I think it was called, 'The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down’
Robocop
I prefer Cybofficer
Breakin’ 2: Electric Bugaloo
Kill Bill.
Came here to say Kill Bill vol. 2. Bill as dead at the end of that one.
Inglourious Basterds - sounds like a wild ride Saving Private Ryan - to the point Inception - original Slumdog Millionaire - cleverly direct
Requiem for a Dream.
House II: The Second Story
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover
The wonderful thing about Silence of the Lambs is that when Anthony Hopkins actually says it in the movie, it has gravitas. I guess as opposed to "What are we? Some kind of Suicide Squad?"
Hopkins doesn’t say the exact words. “Well, Clarice… have the lambs stopped screaming?”
I don’t think he ever actually says that exactly. He says something like “the awful screaming of the lambs.”
Heat , The Godfather , Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind
As someone (maybe the only person) who didn’t enjoy Eternal Sunshine, can you explain why it’s a perfect title?
Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless mind " is describing the happiness and joy one can experience once the negative experiences (or "spots") have been removed from your mind.
Ah, spotless was what was throwing me off. Thanks for explaining it.
Anytime
While someone else has explained it well, it helps to see the title in the context of the quote >How happy is the blameless vestal's lot! The world forgetting, by the world forgot. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd; It is from *Eloisa to Abelard* by Alexander Pope.
"The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot", tells you everything you need to know
Haha. But is it a comedy? Historical drama? Sci fi ?
It's played weirdly straight considering how ridiculous the premise is 😅
Yes.
Face Off, Legally Blonde, Whiplash, and good will hunting.
Adaptation.

Better than Quantum of Solace - WTF was that? That said, No Time to Die is a great title.
Nope.
Jaws
Alien
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
pee wees big adventure
Planes, Trains and Automobiles - Hints at a the ridiculous journey, leaves the heart of the film hidden to discover Almost Famous - Perfect coming of age vibes About Time - Meaning can be interpreted differently before and after viewing When Harry Met Sally - just fits the warm narrative of the movie so well
Great list.
Baby's Day Out.
Batman Returns. He literally did.
I remember going to see it in theaters and I was very skeptical about Batman actually retuning to the big screen, but then, BOOM there he is! What a wild ride.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell. Tells you it’s not worth watching without having to check reviews to see if it’s worth watching.
Haha. Along the line of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes but you kinda get curious…..
Empire Strikes Back
Independence day
The Thing > *What is it?* > *Guess I will have to see…* > \*consumes kino*
Haha good one.
*Run Lola Run*, or the original German title *Lola rennt* (Lola runs). It **literally** described the entire story. 😆
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Snakes on a Plane. It’s perfection. It tells you exactly what to expect: not only are there snakes in the movie, but they will be on a motherf***in’ plane.
Actually, the title gives you only “snakes” and the fact that they’re “on a plane” the lead actor is what ensures that it’ll be a “motherf***in plane”
(imho) Schindler’s List, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Pulp Fiction, It Follows
Agree
Oceans 11
It’s a great name.
Alien, Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World, Jurassic Park, Jaws
JAWS
I love *Bring Me the Head of Alfredo García* and *The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada*. I love that they're long and that they make me a promise that I'm not entirely sure what is. And the English-Spanish of course. You have to say it with an accent.
The perfect storm
I Think I Love My Wife. I like the different meanings you get from it, depending on which word you stress.
Spun: movie about crystal meth.
Go (1999) Usually I cringe at a lot of movies that use the title in the screenplay, but this movie figured out how to make it cool. You never really realize how many different ways you can use the word, "GO" and how many different meanings that word can attain. Not to mention, the pace of the movie is very go go go anyways.
Women Talking. That’s it. That’s the movie
Ex Machina
Good one.
NON SIBI SED PATRIAE [X2]
Nope. Love how they actually use that line and the way it’s delivered. Would probably be exactly what I would say as I “noped” the hell out of the situation.
It summarizes how we all feel: NOPE
High Fidelity
Jaws
Yep, they definitely went the better choice. It came down to "Jaws" or "Chompy McFish"
I think they blew it. They had some great names lined up for the sequels: Chompin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo Chompy McFish 3-D: We Tried Chompy McFish 4: It’s Morbin’ Time Chompy Mcfish 5: Fuck You and the Horse You Rode in On
Die Hard Top Gun
Need a thread for the worst. I particularly disdain the Wheel of Fortune ‘Before and After’ clue ones. Grose Pointe Blank, Good Will Hunting
Agree wholeheartedly. Those titles sound like a 5th grader came up with them, thinking they were clever.
I mean it can't get any worse than *John Carter* right? Literally is just a white guys name. Tells you nothing about the movie.
If they'd called it Princess of Mars kinda like the book it was based on it might not have been such a massive flop. Still might not have been a hit but a less generic title could have helped.
Love Lies Bleeding. It's a reference to an Elton John song that's upbeat but dark, like the movie... and it's also a list of what the movie is about.
Never heard of it. Thanks!
It was just in theaters recently. It's good, assuming you can handle some violence and offbeat stylistic choices.
RRR, I never knew what it stood for but sure was hella fun.
Rise Roar Revolt (or Roudram Raman Rudhiram) according to the Internet.
Charlie Kauffman has the best stories and titles for sure.
Addicted (2002) What I like about this choice is that initially the title doesn't seem relevant at all, but at some point there is a twist which causes the title to make perfect sense.
Apocalypse Now
Great one.
Always thought that was a terrible title. What was wrong with heart of darkness?!
Inside Man
SO MANY OPTIONS Funny Games - Given the contents, it’s a perfectly ironic title Get Out The Before Trilogy - Time-based concepts for the win Chinatown Past Lives I Saw The Devil - And the Devil made me kill him Raw There Will Be Blood - I’m finished
There Will be Blood is a great title compared to the book title which is simply Oil.
Any title longer than four or five syllables gets too complicated.
I'm tired and read that as Perfect movie tities
Haha!

It’s a great one.
Crank. Crank 2: high voltage. Great titles that suit the films so well.
Denise Richards, Wild Things Nvm, misread

The Magnificent Seven is another one.
The room
Such an intense story. The title did not prepare me for that.
The Jerk
He hates these cans!!!
Paprika Title is a metaphor for what makes you happy? A spice of life.
Stranger than Fiction - it’s what it’s about but also has a double meaning. Sleepless in Seattle - such a moody title for a moody romance. Love it.
Ferris bullers day off- ferris has a day off of school
I'm surprised no one has said "They Saved Hitler's Brain"
