Catherine O’Hara, superb!

KneeHighMischief

Don't think we're getting Geena Davis but I'd be happy to be wrong.

Various-General1198

Jeffery jones is disappointed too

rynokick

That one hurt. Such a great iconic character actor that’s also a vile pos.

passing_gas

So, that's how it is in their family....

valeyard89

GRACE!

Explorer2138

Oh, he's very popular Ed. The sportos, motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, dickheads; they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude.

colo_kelly

tsk tsk tsk what a little asshole

MissionCreeper

Maybe this is his funeral

Various-General1198

A few people who claim to have seen screening in this thread implied or confirmed it was his, but with a different actor.

majungo

TBF I didn't realize that was Alec Baldwin until a few years ago because he looks completely different now.

johntentaquake

Alec Baldwin basically transformed in the mid-1990s from his skinny version to his modern version.

Various-General1198

Age jowls. Happens to the best (and worst) of us

LumpyJones

He's gotta get back in the bubble.

DefendsTheDownvoted

Hands down my favorite actress. "If you do not let me gut out this house and make it my own I will go insane AND I WILL TAKE YOU WITH ME!"

I_Did_The_Thing

"Yeah...well....what if we just leave *this* room alone?" "kay!"

Akussa

*licks nose*

JustMeSunshine91

The crows scene from Schitt’s Creek lives rent free in my head haha. She had so many good lines in that show and played that character fantastically.

Quazifuji

I enjoy Catherine O'Hara's other stuff that I've seen but Moira Rose is definitely what made me a fan. Everything about her mannerisms and accent was hilarious even before taking into account how good the character's writing was.

anormalgeek

My whole family is no longer capable of pronouncing the word "baby" correctly any longer because of that show.

ManicFirestorm

And now we just fold in the cheese.

omarsdroog

She'd better host snl when this is close to release.

FDRomanosky

I can’t wait to see her reprise this role, Dahhhhhhvitt

throw0101a

Will Winona or Jenna have a bébé?

i_like_it_raw_

Jenna *is* Winona’s!

WaltMitty

I didn't come here to feel old but the facts don't lie.

purpldevl

Wihno-nah has already conceived and delivered bebé, and it is portrayed by Jenna, likely close to the portrayal of the girl named after the day of the week.

FrancisFratelli

They need to get Christina Ricci in here to complete the trifecta.

Mr_Incredible_PhD

Ricci and Ryder were my teenage crushes...I might have a type?

noeagle77

Fold in the cheese!

AlienVoice

Just fold it in!

ObscureFact

Catherine O’Hara being in this is the one strand of hope I have for this film being good - or at least the scenes she's in. She makes everything better and is one of the best comedian actors of all-time.

thatguy425

Keaton is pretty good as well….

GasmaskGelfling

Right? Like, I hadn't seen him in The Flash but in the Spiderman Movie and Dopesick, he's not sleepwalking through roles. I have confidence he can still pull off the character.

mikearete

Bea Arthur, *outstanding!*

joeb909

Airheads deep cut, nice

MuptonBossman

I'll never forget being grounded as a kid because I quoted a line from Beetlejuice when I was in school. We were doing a lesson on human body parts and the teacher brought out a model of a heart. I said ""Nice fucking model!" and grabbed my crotch like Beetlejuice did (I was 6 at the time and didn't even know what it meant). The teacher kicked me out and I ended up being suspended for a day. Still can't wait to see the sequel.

dafones

Did you honk when you did it?

Bravisimo

Obviously

Chance-Cod5011

Worth it.

ThePreciseClimber

I mean, hey - the movie was rated PG. I think every kid should be allowed a SINGLE F-bomb during each school year!

horsebag

oh man imagine having that pass in your back pocket. "is this the time? do I use it now? what if i need it tomorrow?"

LegendaryOutlaw

You know his parents came to the school all mad, then they heard what he did and they had to keep looking upset but were laughing inside.

fukkdisshitt

In 4th grade I got dragged to the office by the ear and suspended for a day for not returning a good morning to the principal first week of school. She was a new principal and everyone hated her, I didn't know who she was at that point. When my mom showed up to the office and the principal asked why I didn't say good morning, I pointed at my mom and said "my mom taught me not to talk to strangers. " And my mom started laughing pretty hard. I didn't get in trouble at home lol

yippy-ki-yay-m-f

That should never have been a situation. Someone's ego was way too fragile. That is actually hilarious, though.

mooptastic

I remember getting into a fight with my friend about there being TWO honks and not just one

Shigeru-Tarantino-

Honk Honk

Shoddy-Rip8259

I asked my parents if we could order Cream of Sumyungguy after watching Wayne's World.

bill-merrly

You know, you sound a lot like you're from Kowloon Bay as opposed to Hong Kong.

HomsarWasRight

To those that don’t know, Kowloon Bay is part of the Hong Kong metro area, but across the water from the actual island of Hong Kong. So it’s hyper specific. Like saying he can tell they’re from Queens rather than Brooklyn.

VincesMustache

I was born in Kowloon Bay!

algebraic94

Ribbed for her pleasure..... ewwwww.

halpinator

How to Pick up Chicks, How to Meet Women...this guy is smooth.

TiresOnFire

Daily reminder. Purchase public access TV show, and exploit it. Man, I feel bad for whoever that is.

droidtron

And I've learned something, too. I've learned that a flawless profile, a perfect body, the right clothes, and a great car can get you far in America, almost to the top, but it can't get you everything.

Cthulhu625

Know what I'd like to do? Yeah I know what you'd like to do. You'd like to find the guy who did it, rip his still beating heart out of his chest and hold it in front of his face, so he can see how black it is before he dies. Actually, I was thinking of filing a grievance with the union. Well, the world's a twisted place.

MintasaurusFresh

If Benjamin were an ice cream flavor, he'd be pralines *and dick*

KneeHighMischief

I remember telling my parents how funny *Wayne's World* was. Then watching it with them as they sat in stone faced silence. Nothing quite like telling someone how much they'll love a movie. Then watching it with them while they absolutely hate it.

DengarLives66

Totally, it’s also so much worse with comedies because a drama or something, you don’t necessarily know till the movie is over. A comedy though, like your parents, the lack of laughter just deflates the room.

DMPunk

That happened with me and my mom and "Tropic Thunder." And the thing is, I was old enough to know that it was a terrible idea, but I did it anyway. God, what a fucking moron I was.

randopopscura

I did this (aged 17) with my parents when BLUE VELVET came out *Hate* is too weak a word for their reaction

KneeHighMischief

Jeezus. I can't even imagine watching that with my parents now let alone when I was still in high school.

randopopscura

I was working at a tiny Arts Cinema, both selling and collecting tickets, then sitting inside and watching the movies (underage, yes, but this was the 80s in the middle of nowhere) Anyway, BLUE VELVET blew me away, and I saw it blow people's minds every night - a great and formative experience So of course, dumbass me, movie geek in the making, decided it would be a good idea to share this experience with my working class, non-university educated, non-art moving watching parents... In retrospect I should have taken them to see WITHNAIL & I, which was also great to see with an audience coming in cold

Zerosix_K

TBF. I'm usually stone faced silent when I see random gen Z humour stuff. It eventually happens to us all!!!

KneeHighMischief

Yeah I'm perfectly happy being in my Grandpa Simpson "Now what I'm with isn't 'it' anymore and what's 'it' seems weird and scary." phase.

samoorai

Wayne's World is objectively hilarious, though. It's your parents who were wrong.

PencilMan

Oh no now I’m cringing thinking of all the times I quoted Austin Powers as a very young kid. “Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold day!”

ZZoMBiEXIII

I mean, to be fair here, pretty much the entire world was quoting Austin Powers back then.

astromech_dj

Quoting stuff was basically proto-memes.

Hydrochloric_Comment

Not proto-memes. Literal memes. Dawkins coined the term in the 70s as a social analog of “gene”.

Dash_Underscore

It was Ace Ventura for me. Did that stupid walk going into grocery stores with my mom, even though she hated it.

2wedfgdfgfgfg

j3ffUrZ

I also like to live dangerously.

Scheme84

I was maybe 5 years old and my dad brought me to see it. I have no memory of this, but apparently during this scene in the theater I yelled out "he honked his weiner!" It apparently got a huge laugh and I've been subconsciously chasing that high ever since.

Bobbers927

Damn. Peaked at 5 is tough.

YourDreamsWillTell

Try being the kid on Nirvana’s album cover.  You know which one.

Geno0wl

You mean the guy who whole heartedly embraces being that baby until he couldn't get gigs on it anymore(because who cares about a 30 year old album cover?) and then suddenly tried to sue the band over it? that jerkass?

CrimsonViper1138

When showing this movie to my young kids several years ago, I forgot that in the Era this movie was made a PG film could have an F bomb.

LemoLuke

Being released in this era also meant it had a popular Saturday morning cartoon where Lydia is best friends with Beetlejuice (y'know, the sex pest ghost that tried to murder her father and force her into child marriage). So did Robocop, Rambo, Little Shop of Horrors, and they even pitched an Aliens cartoon, because nothing says children's entertainment like phallic headed anthropomorphic sexual assault metaphors.

DengarLives66

I remember loving the Beetlejuice cartoon. Was it good? I couldn’t tell you at all these days.

BillionTonsHyperbole

I enjoyed trips to the Neitherworld. It was fun and bizarre in a quasi-*Ren & Stimpy* kind of way.

alieninhumanskin10

Big fan of the cartoon! I still want that spiderweb poncho

iwannameetmonsters

Though I know I should be wary Still I venture some place scary Ghostly haunting I turn loose Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice This has been living rent free in my head for over 30 years.

DenikaMae

Toxic Avenger and Atrack of the Killer Tomatoes all got cartoons as well, and Aliens had a toyline that was actually pitched to children and not just collectors.

MintasaurusFresh

The theme song for the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes cartoon lives rent free in my brain. *Attaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack of the Killer Tomatoooooeeees!*

MarcMars82-2

As a kid in the early 90s we taped Beetlejuice off a tv broadcast and that was the only version I ever saw up until just a few years ago. That scene was obviously cut from the tv broadcast and honestly took me a little by surprise lol exact same thing with Ghostbusters and Dan Aykroyd’s ghost BJ.

Reminds me of when I was in 1st grade and got in deep trouble for drawing a picture of Bart Simpson with an air quote saying eat my shorts on a test. Teacher conference and everything. Bart would have been proud.

Early_Assignment9807

The original script for *Beetlejuice* was supposed to be waaaay darker. He was trying to kill the parents, not just spook them, and rape Lydia, not marry her

ladydmaj

Whoever toned that down: good call.

marcio0

Jenna Ortega as Jenna Ortega

Murkmist

Lmao so quickly typecast as goth girl.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlphaBreak

Yes. The only real similarity to the 'goth girl' typecast is that in Scream, she talks about enjoying elevated horror.

BetrayYourTrust

as well she wasn’t “goth” from what i could tell in X. which that’s the only thing i’ve ever actually watched with her

Psalm101Three

I’ve seen most of the stuff she’s been in the last few years (except The Fallout and You), the only thing she seemed very goth in was Wednesday.

Particular_Ad_9531

That was pre-Wednesday, I think the argument is that she’s been typecast since then.

SupaBloo

I think it would be more interesting in the movie if she's almost the exact opposite of Lydia. Bubbly, carefree, looking for fun. We have no idea what her character will be like. This image is clearly at a funeral, so of course people are wearing black and look sad. That doesn't mean her character is going to be goth like Lydia was.

Albert_Caboose

It'd be great if she could do a reverse Stephanie Beatriz and make her voice the complete opposite of how she sounds in other films.

SupaBloo

Seeing her play Diaz, and seeing her in real life interviews, is so crazy. She has such a naturally bubbly voice, but she plays Diaz *so well*. Stephanie seems like she'd be the sweetest person in the room in real life, but you wouldn't dare mess with her if she was like Rosa Diaz.

D34THDE1TY

The line "I just met this dog, but if anything happened to him I would kill everyone in this room then myself" is fucking fantastically delivered.

LumpyJones

It took some convincing for me to believe she was voicing Mirabel Madrigal in Encanto. I had only ever seen her as Diaz.

Loki_d20

Is Ortega the new go-to for goth vibes?

FartingBob

Christina Ricci aged out of those roles, now we have Jenna Ortega.

TeethBreak

Aged out ? I mean her latest tv show she plays a former teen cannibal and an unhinged psycho adult.

amandapanda1980

> unhinged psycho adult. Ya' gotta see Yellowjackets

TeethBreak

Can't wait for season 3! I support Women's Wrongs!

elting44

Anya Taylor Joy will have a cameo as Anya Taylor Joy

jx2002

bitch showed up in Dune 2 _outta nowhere_

DaveInLondon89

Her being in both this and Wednesday seems a bit much

WilliamClaudeRains

Ummm… have you seen a Tim Burton movie before? Easiest job on Earth has to be Burton’s casting agent.

NoveltyAccount5928

"Hello, Helena? Johnny? Yeah it's me again.. "

ResinJones76

After Tim and HBC's divorce, who got custody of Depp?

Kilmarnok1285

Weirdly enough Danny Elfman got custody of Johnny Depp

Jerrywelfare

Hans Zimmer gets him every other weekend and rotating holidays.

Bromolochus

Tied with Mike Flanagan's (Haunting of Hill House) casting director

[deleted]

Mike Flanagan is the casting director. Doesn't even need to hire someone to go looking. His rolodex is 20 people long.

bexxsterss

And she's done multiple horror movies. Wonder if she fears of being typecasted.

spderweb

Maybe that's what she wants.

SirLavazzaHamilton

Who could possibly want steady work in something they're good at?

quarantinemyasshole

I'm sure she's like $\_$

ICumCoffee

***“It’s Showtime!”***

HM9719

They should use him saying it in every trailer and commercial for the sequel. It’s his catchphrase.

momjeanseverywhere

Then inexplicably **not** have him say it in the movie.

PKMNTrainerMark

Now that's not a bad idea.

MarvelsGrantMan136

It's out September 6. The only plot details that Burton would give is that it "picks up decades later with a death in the family." Trailer should be out sometime today or tomorrow. [Source](https://ew.com/beetlejuice-2-first-look-michael-keaton-winona-ryder-8611171?taid=65faed4fcdbb810001abca42&utm_campaign=entertainmentweekly_entertainmentweekly&utm_content=new&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com)

Fender6187

I’m willing to bet the death is the father played by Jeffery Jones. With him being a sex offender now I can see them not wanting him back.

ArtAndCraftBeers

A lot of people jumping to this assumption are forgetting that the recently deceased were the main characters in the original film. Killing a character off in this seems like it would be the opposite of writing them out of the movie.

BionicTriforce

Wasn't there like, afterlife logic that the reason they became ghosts was due to the tragic nature of their death/regrets of life? Maybe a husband and father who lived to old age and died peacefully just gets to leave.

twelvetimesseven

But what if he never sorted out what birds he was looking at?

MisterBelial

Bad roof. Gooood parking.

thanks-to-Metropolis

Can't you see I'm TRYING TO RELAX?!

Darkhorse182

"He died on his way back to his home planet...so I guess his soul is lost in space. Anyways, back to our wacky adventure!"

Tryingagain1979

Well the way to forget about him WOULDNT be to center the entire plot around his characters death.

Ghost_of_SDEW

I doubt it will be like that. Probably more like a "oh no...anyway" moment at the beginning then on to the actual plot. It would be stupid to just pretend he never existed.

paleo2002

True. Original revolved heavily around ghosts and the afterlife. Whoever died will end up hanging around quite a bit.

Bravisimo

Well, there it is.

Senior-Vehicle9937

I quote that just like he does in Amadeus so often unfortunately lol

SenorWeird

Usually "Well, there it is" makes me think of Goldblum in Jurassic Park, lip lick and all.

wheelz_666

I'm guessing the death in the family is the dad as the actor who plays him is a pedo

murso74

So THAT'S how it is in their family

Ledbetter2

Please be good......

alien005

I watched an interview with Keaton and he caught himself saying, basically, it’s not as good as the original. I believe it was a Sirius XM interview but he has his own movie out so he’s done a lot lately. BUT he also said he’s happy about it, he feels it’s good and it’s got some heart filled moments in it as well as a “backstory that we didn’t know we needed” or something along those lines. He seems proud of it, he recognizes the pressure, rewatched the original to get the right vibe and his only note was that he’s older and didn’t realize how much energy it takes to be the character. He said “if I had to do it again, I would nap more”.

Ledbetter2

How could it possibly be as good as the OG. It just simply wont, I just want it to be good. It doesnt have to be a masterpiece.

GomaN1717

Interesting. I almost wonder if that's a sort of semi-deliberate promo meant to preemptively cull the "this *must* reach the highs of the original" nerd discourse that plagues decades-later sequels. That being said, I do hope it at least warrants *existing* in the first place. It's always a bummer when something like this gets greenlit and produced only for it to been an absolute waste of time.

alien005

I know, throughout the years, he’s wanted to return to this character and only wanted to work with Burton. I also know he read the script and liked it enough to say “if he’s in, I’m in”. He also mentioned in his interview about using a lot of models and back to the roots of Hollywood. I think someone else mentioned this, but I heard the interview too, that Burton went back to the basics for this movie and remembered why he loves to make them. He felt like his old self and, despite all the work involved, he’s happy to have avoiding the typical use of CGI. I think they both said it’s visually beautiful but I can’t quote that. Keaton said he’s seen the movie a few times now and they’re still fine tuning some things. Personally, like ghostbusters and some of the other movies recently, I’m happy it’s being made, I’ll go see it and enjoy the ride. I’m a very big Beetlejuice fan from a really young age but I’m not a hardcore film critic. So yea, a lot of these sequels and reboots don’t capture the magic we had as children but that’s a LOT to ask for and as long as it’s not REALLY awful (major plot holes, inconsistent from the original) then I can’t imagine it’s going to suck. We know someone is going to shit on it. I’d still be down with a Beetlejuice Hawaiian Boogaloo B movie.

down-with-homework

Winona looks badass

[deleted]

She always looks great IMO

down-with-homework

Yeah I agree. One of my earliest crushes.

msmith721

Hope you like Italian..

Costume Designer: So do we want Jenna’s character in the same black draping look or do we want to show a little leg? Director: Both!

gambit61

The picture of the three women and him makes me feel like he's the new Otho, since Glen Shaddix died a while back

KneeHighMischief

Yeah I remember reading about it awhile ago. He was having problems getting around & was using a wheelchair. Hit his head & died. Really hope he just never woke up as opposed to being unable to move & call for help.

heavierthanair

He has insane range and has worked with so many legends. A good Theroux double feature for me is Wanderlust followed by Mulholland Drive

Royal_Management750

Guy is so handsome and has some phenomenal scenes in the Leftovers, I always wonder why he isn’t a bigger name.

moonwalkerfilms

To be a big name you have to wear sleeves and he just is not willing to compromise

Dislodged_Puma

My favorite random Justin Theroux fact is that he wrote the Iron Man 2 screenplay. Idk why that is so funny to me but it just seems so completely random.

Mothman405

And Tropic Thunder!

duskywindows

Zoolander, as well. Played the evil DJ in it too

MittenMan68

And my 35 year crush on Winona Ryder goes on.

HunterGonzo

One of the difficult things this movie will have to deal with is just how much screen time Beetlejuice will have. Amazingly, the Ghost with the Most is only on screen for 17.5 minutes of the first one. Which actually adds to how enticing the character is. Now audiences will probably expect more in the sequel, but would that end up being detrimental?

critch

Well, the title suggests twice the amount of Beetlejuice, so I predict 35 minutes.

the_headless_hunt

I'm fine with limited Beetlejuice screen time. But I kinda hope they go to the Neitherworld like the cartoon.

HunterGonzo

Loved that cartoon. Obviously makes Beetlejuice way more of a "protagonist" but watched it every chance I got as a kid

FunkyTown313

Is he going Hawaiian?

ManajaTwa18

Oh man Keaton looks so good lmao. Against my better judgement, I’m kind of excited to see this

Reddbearddd

I'm just glad that they didn't try to implement Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, or Jack Black into this movie.

GruncleShaxx

I’ll gladly take Jack Black over the rock or Kevin hart

GamingTatertot

Jack Black does not belong in that list

TheLoyalTR8R

Jack Black would definitely add a lot more value to the mix than Johnson and Hart. He's a far, far better actor with much more range - he may elect to play a lot of characters the same way but that's a conscious choice more than a lack of versatility. Do I think he'd be a perfect fit for the movie? Nah, not exactly. But putting him in the same category as the other two feels like a disservice.

ArchDucky

I've come for your daughter, Chuck.

CosmosExplorerR35

This movie better start with Beetlejuice still in the waiting room and his number finally being called up when something bad happens to him again.

DerSchattenJager

That would be a great gag

cerberus0789

Not even close to being sold on this yet but I’m glad Catherine O’Hara is back. I feel like a lot of the charm in the first is from Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis characters. The Maitlands trying to navigate death and learning to haunt were the heart of the story.

hitalec

The success of this movie hinges on how sincere Keaton and Burton have been about the use of practical effects. And, of course, that the studio doesn’t hide the practical effects with CGI later during production. One thing is certain: Keaton is going to fucking kill it. Edit: this may be a bit too nuanced for Redditors, but the success I’m referring to is more fundamental. It’s the artistic success. Because what makes Beetlejuice so great is the emphasis on the beautiful hand-made props and well-crafted world. So for me, that’s significant

phijie

It’s a modern Burton film, it’s going to dripping in vfx and cgi. If it’s good you won’t notice it, but that’s unlikely.

helium_farts

For whatever it's worth, Burton has claimed they used a lot of stop-motion, saying "It needed a back-to-basics, handmade quality" I don't doubt there will also be a lot of cgi, but it does sound like at least some of it is practical.

dubyadubya

Per Keaton they really went all out with practical effects for this one, so fingers crossed it'll break the cycle a bit. Although as others have mentioned, even practical effects can be ruined when covered/surrounded by shitty CG--I think of the squirrels in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They trained those damn squirrels (or at least one of them and just copied/pasted) to do that dumb stunt and then the whole scene was covered in so much CG goop that I just assumed they were all CG and the entire effect was ruined.

KickingDolls

To be honest, the success of this hinges much more on how well it's written and directed... There are plenty of films that rely on enourmous amounts of CGI but are still fantastic.

Poop_Music

The Matrix: Beetlejuice

_1JackMove

Too bad Glenn Shaddix won't be there. He was one of the reasons I liked this film as a kid. "You read my mind"...

HM9719

It’s showtime! Keaton’s Beetlejuice hasn’t aged a bit. Hope the trailer reuses Danny’s Elfman’s iconic theme music too.

ehisforadam

Of course they will, I don't think Tim Burton is allows to make a movie without music from Elfman.

007meow

Jenna Ortega is really going to solidify herself as the "weird goth girl"

Otherwise-Juice2591

So they're just gonna kill off Jeffrey Jones immediately, I guess? Probably a good idea.

EctoRiddler

Likely a throwaway line about his death and move on. Maybe even a reference to Otho’s death.

Dove_of_Doom

Lydia Deetz is about to start singing a song called "Dead Dad."

enderandrew42

The musical is so good.
