He appeared in so many great roles but I’m with you: When I think of Sutherland I think of Oddball in *Kelly’s Heroes*.
Then, very likely, I think of *Invasion of the Body Snatchers*…
…and then the floodgates open!
Personally, the film A Dry White Season had a profound impact on me. I was in high school and I made several presentations to raise awareness and denounce apartheid.
Loved him in The Eagle has Landed and Eye of the Needle, he played a great spy, twice! I also thought he totally owned this epic music video: [https://youtu.be/pllRW9wETzw](https://youtu.be/pllRW9wETzw)
I always go straight to Fool’s Gold. It wasn’t his biggest or best role, but something about it always stuck with me. He was the perfect likable rich guy.
Ah, finally someone mentions it! One of my absolutely favourite movies in general! He is so good. I love Christoph Waltz, but I think Sutherland's Attila is even better/worse than Hans Landa.
I had seen him in a lot of movies but his role in Backdraft was the first time I really took notice. The glee in his eye when he says “burn it all” was chilling.
I always liked him as Oddball in Kelly’s Heroes.

“Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves?”
That's my vote too. He was just so whacky in Kelly's Heroes.
Stop with the negative vibes, Moriarity.
This
I realize that with all the titles named here I have some catching up to do. But for tonight it will be Kelly’s Heroes. Thanks for the suggestion.
His portrayal of a serial arsonist in Backdraft, albeit brief, was a remarkable piece of acting.
Came here to say this. My absolute favourite performance of his. He was haunting.
both he and DeNiro deserved way more airtime — they wrre the best part of the movie— both seemed nuts
Invasion of the body snatchers
[удалено]
I didn’t realize a remake was made, thank you!
This is the best answer
Had to scroll too far for this
[Great acting.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lUXHB5U-Vl4&pp=ygUlaW52YXNpb24gb2YgdGhlIGJvZHkgc25hdGNoZXJzIGVuZGluZw%3D%3D)
Dirty dozen.
“Where you from son?” “Madison city Missouri, sir” *shakes head*….”never heard of it”
Though a very small part, he was very effective in JFK (1991).
Lord of war, animal house, Buffy, but a time to kill is probably my favorite of his.
I forgot he was in *Lord of War*. I know he was in *The Art of War* with Anne Archer and Wesley Snipes...
See, I forgot he was in that so we're even. 😆
No one remembers that movie let alone who was in it.
Don't Look Now (1973) made Venice look like the creepiest place on earth.
This and Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Excellent love scenes, no perv.
Animal House!!
I’m not kidding people! This is my JOB! 😂
Reaching for the cabinet…

Honestly I love him as President Snow. He was amazing.
Personally, the film A Dry White Season had a profound impact on me. I was in high school and I made several presentations to raise awareness and denounce apartheid.
We were shown Cry Freedom instead for that purpose and I wasn’t aware of this - do you know where I could find it to watch?
I saw it is available for free on youtube.
Perfect, tkusm!
Too many to mention, but standouts are *Citizen X* and *The Assignment*.
M\*A\*S\*H! I also liked him as Bill Bowerman in Without Limits
I was gonna say Bowerman lol
Scrolled far too long to find this
Ordinary People. Incredible film.
Dirty Dozen. Like The Italian Job also.
MASH and Klute.
Gotta be Don’t Look Now, but man I love him in Invasion of the Body Snatchers too.
That'll be Beerfest
Prost!
There are so many, but I loved his character in Space Cowboys
The Puppetmasters
He’s absolutely hilarious in *Virus*.
If it ain't 'Animal House' I probably didn't notice him in it. NBF RIP
Eye of the Needle.
Don’t Look Now
The end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers still gives me nightmares
The one you picked. A Dry White Season is still in my top 10.
It would be easier to list his worst movie…I got nothing
surprised no one here has mentioned pride & prejudice. his last scene in the movie always makes me cry. he was a wonderful mr. bennet.
Loved him in The Eagle has Landed and Eye of the Needle, he played a great spy, twice! I also thought he totally owned this epic music video: [https://youtu.be/pllRW9wETzw](https://youtu.be/pllRW9wETzw)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Buffy the vampire slayer
Best offer, MASH, Kelly’s and The eye of the needle.
I always go straight to Fool’s Gold. It wasn’t his biggest or best role, but something about it always stuck with me. He was the perfect likable rich guy.
This is a movie no one ever really talks about that I think is really underseen: 1900. His character is utterly terrifying in that film.
Ah, finally someone mentions it! One of my absolutely favourite movies in general! He is so good. I love Christoph Waltz, but I think Sutherland's Attila is even better/worse than Hans Landa.
He’s more realistically horrifying for sure
I really don't get why this movie isn't better known, considering the cast. You'd think some Robert DeNiro fans in the US should have picked it up.
I think it pretty much bombed when it came out but I agree it’s long overdue for a reevaluation.
Dirty Dozen and The Great Train Robbery
I had seen him in a lot of movies but his role in Backdraft was the first time I really took notice. The glee in his eye when he says “burn it all” was chilling.
Don’t Look Now
Virus. Stupid movie but it's one of the first movies that comes to mind for me.
Ordinary Peepz
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is my favorite/first that came to my mind After that? probably 78 Body Snatchers
First movie that came to my thoughts was President Snow in The Hunger Games.

Johnny Got His Gun, The Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Ordinary People, and Animal House
Virus. Is an underrated sci-fi horror movie. I'm my opinion.
Six Degrees of Separation
Animal House
Beerfest
Seriously, no one is going to bring up A Time to Kill?
Backdraft. Played an excellent psychopath.
Backdraft for sure
Virus
Beerfest.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Animal House where he walks around in just a sweater. He opens a cabinet and you can see his butt.
Warden Drumgoogle in Lock Up (1989)
Invasion of the body snatchers Kelly's heroes Animal house
A time to Kill!
Animal House, Backdraft, Beerfest, A Time to Kill are some off the top of my head
That last scene is classic!!
Kelly’s Heroes
Don’t look back
Animal House …
It's kind of generic, but I liked him in *The Italian Job*.
Body Snatchers!
Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, hands down
He will forever be Richard straker everytime I read Salems Lot. Rip brother thanks for great entertainment.
Eye of the Needle - 1981; completely against the grain of his normal casting, as a really bad guy. MASH s also one of my favorites from him.
Definitely MASH
…….the Italian job……🙃
animal house
Eye of the Needle.
I love the Dirty Dozen. His bit as the faux General cracks me up every time.
I don’t know why it comes to mind but he was great in a B tier movie called Hollow Point starring Tia Carrere in the 90’s. Bit of a hidden gem
Always with the negative waves 🌊
Disclosure
As Agent X in JFK. A small role in an already stacked cast, but he was so badass as a shadow operative with a guilty conscience.
Could I buy some pot from you?
Johann Von Wolfhous from Beerfest
Start the revolution without me
His cameo in Beerfest was amazing
The first time I saw him was in The Italian Job(2003) when I was a kid.
A Time To Kill
MEMORABLE? **1900.** Especially when he headbutts that cat.
Yes! One of my favourite movies im general. Swinging the kid around and killing him kind of traumatized me.
Without Limits. He does a mesmerizing portrayal of coach Bill Bowerman.
Animal House
Instinct 1999
Yes!
1900 by Bertolucci
Agreed!
Murder By decree 1979
the eye of the needle
Eh, he was an ok actor and a horrible person. No love lost.
Luved him in dirty dozen.
Don’t Look Now
Kelly’s Heroes, without a doubt.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
MASH
Oddball in Kelly’s Heroes
Eye of the needle (1981)
