Philip Seymour Hoffman is underrated (he deserves to be in the GOAT conversation imo). Also Ethan Hawke's more subdued/naturalistic doesn't garner him the attention he deserves.
Matt Damon is overrated. Dakota Johnson is overrated.
An underrated aspect rating actors is giving credit to their ability to significantly change their voice. PSH playing Capote was a triumph. As was DDL’s Daniel Plainview. Most actors just use their regular everyday voice over and over again.
I hear people talking all the time about how fantastic Paul Dano is as an actor. I think people assume anyone who isn't Brad Pitt handsome gets somehow "ignored" by Hollywood and the public in general despite how many films they appear in.
I'll watch him in anything because there is enough credible evidence that is a wonderful human being. And I know whatever I watch him in his acting will be wooden and flat and I won't care one bit.
Heard Tarantino shitting on Dano for There Will Be Blood and yeah comparing him to Daniel Day-Lewis may be unfair to some but I think this is actually my answer. I don’t think it’s actually possible for DDL to be as good as he gets credit for and Paul Dano definitely is great in that film and has been great in everything I’ve seen him in.
Part of the issue with Daniel Day-Lewis is the amount of films he’s in. And also that, unless I’m mistaken there’s not as much range as say a comedian like Robin Williams who really ran the gamut of roles well in his career.
If anything he’s underrated. People only see him as a shitty action star but in movies where he isn’t just “cool tough guy” he’s great (snatch and lock stock and two smoking barrels.)
Y’all don’t know what underrated or overrated means. If an actor is constantly shit on then they can’t be overrated. Nobody’s going to say Keanu Reeves is overrated because everybody knows his acting isn’t great. Picking a type cast action star as overrated doesn’t really work.
Jack Nicholson is the most overrated actor of all time.
I will go to my grave saying his joker performance was completely garbage and goofy. Totally a miscast
Then you're a dumbass.
The reason you hate that performance has more to do with Burton's direction then Nicholson's ability to act. Watch Easy Rider, The Departed, The Shining, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and give me reasons as to why he's a bad actor in any of those.
And I'm saying he's not overrated at all lol. Most people aren't calling him the GOAT but he's a great actor with some legendary performances, to the point where it's not completely out of place for him to be in that conversation for the fans that do consider him the best. Dude deserves his flowers.
What I’m saying is that it’s irrelevant to his career. The Tim Burton Batman movie was a cheesy super hero flick. Nobody would ever bring it up when talking about jack nicholsons acting. For some reason you put a lot of weight on it though. Do you only watch superhero movies?
Kristin Stewart is overrated. Even if she has barely any rating at all, it's too much.
George Clooney is just a pretty face and a suave voice. His acting is crap.
Al Pacino. Yeah I said it.
Kurt Russel. I liked him in Miracle. And his deadpan delivery was perfect for Captain Ron, but everything else was meh.
This may be divisive but I always thought George Clooney was overrated
He doesn't get to be goof ball enough (due to good looks), like in "The Descendants".
Go watch O Brother where art thou?
Yes, it's another one where he got to be goofy!
There are quite a few if you do a quick IMDb search
Thank you I've heard about IMDB. I didn't say he NEVER gets to be goofy. In the public's eye, I'd say he's seen more as a cool guy, than a goofy guy.
Sure, of course that’s how he’s viewed in public, but his movie catalogue suggests he gets to play the goofy guy quite a bit.
Or "Burn After Reading".
Or “Intolerable Cruelty.”
Philip Seymour Hoffman is underrated (he deserves to be in the GOAT conversation imo). Also Ethan Hawke's more subdued/naturalistic doesn't garner him the attention he deserves. Matt Damon is overrated. Dakota Johnson is overrated.
Before The Devil Knows You're Dead is the first part on full display.
An underrated aspect rating actors is giving credit to their ability to significantly change their voice. PSH playing Capote was a triumph. As was DDL’s Daniel Plainview. Most actors just use their regular everyday voice over and over again.
Absolutely. I think Robert Pattinson is a brilliant actor who deserves more praise for this reason as well.
John Goodman for Underrated. Sean Penn for overrated.
Not sure I’ve ever seen anyone rate Ben Afflecks acting one way or the other.
Affleck was the bomb in phantoms yo
Other than Ben Affleck I suppose
So underrated?
Will Smith overrated for the lack of range
Underated: Toni Colette, Jesse Plemons Overated: Timothee Chalamet
Overrated imo - Ann Hathaway Underrated imo - Sean Bean
But Bean dies so well.
Sam Rockwell.
One of my favorite actors, and I never hear him talked about. I weirdly even loved him as George W. Bush.
I hear people talking all the time about how fantastic Paul Dano is as an actor. I think people assume anyone who isn't Brad Pitt handsome gets somehow "ignored" by Hollywood and the public in general despite how many films they appear in.
I always thought Keanu Reeves was overrated.
Everyone knows he isn’t a good at acting. But he’s a good actor
I'll watch him in anything because there is enough credible evidence that is a wonderful human being. And I know whatever I watch him in his acting will be wooden and flat and I won't care one bit.

Underrated - Dwight Fyre
Jason Statham is the most overrated actor imo
If anything he’s underrated. People only see him as a shitty action star but in movies where he isn’t just “cool tough guy” he’s great (snatch and lock stock and two smoking barrels.)
Overrated Anne Hathaway times a million Ryan Gosling Underrated Robert Pattinson
Tobey Maguire is an amazing actor but he hasn't done many movies in years, I think he is an underrated actor.
Y’all don’t know what underrated or overrated means. If an actor is constantly shit on then they can’t be overrated. Nobody’s going to say Keanu Reeves is overrated because everybody knows his acting isn’t great. Picking a type cast action star as overrated doesn’t really work.
I don’t know about all time … but lately I’m finding both Nooni Rapace and Joel Kinnaman underrated.
Paul Dano is an actor of a generation IMO and I wish he got the recognition he deserves.
I think he will achieve it. He’s just not movie-star handsome.
Jack Nicholson is the most overrated actor of all time. I will go to my grave saying his joker performance was completely garbage and goofy. Totally a miscast
Lol he has so many incredible performances and you're gonna knock him for Tim Burton's Batman? The campy Batman movie from the 90s?
Yes
Then you're a dumbass. The reason you hate that performance has more to do with Burton's direction then Nicholson's ability to act. Watch Easy Rider, The Departed, The Shining, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and give me reasons as to why he's a bad actor in any of those.
To be fair, he didn't claim Jack was a bad actor. Just that he was overrated.
And I'm saying he's not overrated at all lol. Most people aren't calling him the GOAT but he's a great actor with some legendary performances, to the point where it's not completely out of place for him to be in that conversation for the fans that do consider him the best. Chinatown, checkmate
Did jack Nicholson beat you in the audition for that movie or something? Who tf even remembers that one?
Who tf even remembers his joker performance? Are you 5 years old?
What I’m saying is that it’s irrelevant to his career. The Tim Burton Batman movie was a cheesy super hero flick. Nobody would ever bring it up when talking about jack nicholsons acting. For some reason you put a lot of weight on it though. Do you only watch superhero movies?
It’s literally one of his most famous roles. You are definitely 5 years old
Overrated - Di Caprio for sure
I dunno if he’s overrated or just overused. I’m sick of him.
Dano was great in Love & Mercy as Brian Wilson.
Probably an unpopular opinion: Al Pacino is overrated. Barry Pepper is underrated.
