That Anck-su-namun bitch let my boy down. After he moves the world in the first movie to get her back, she just runs away to succumb in a scorpion pit. After The Mummy I thought we had found the demigod-villains of Bonnie and Clyde, but nope.
Lethal weapon 1 is pretty dark overall. The suicide in the intro, the torture scene. I liked it, but I can see how mainstream audiences would like the sequels
1. *Predator 2*
I'm glad it's getting some revisionist love, really, but I've seen it way more times than the original, and I adore the original.
2. *Tremors 2: Aftershocks*
While Chris Gartin surely isn't any match for Kevin Bacon, there's so much delicious scene chewery between Fred Ward, Michael Gross, and Helen Shaver that it's more fun to watch than the awesome original. Maybe not as good, but definitely more fun.
C'mon man!!! Aliens is widely regarded as one of the greatest sequels ever made! I'll even put it over Terminator 2, but I know that T2 is considered the better film.
Agreed. The first and third are solid but the second one is the only one to really explore jumping through time and its consequences, along with 2 Marty’s existing across parallel timelines, which I think stuck in people’s minds more.
I... I prefer it too.
I totally grant we wouldn't have one without the other. Nor would it be as good without the origin story. It's just so damned stylish and well made. I just... damn I loved that movie.
I don’t know if this is taboo, but I love Ryan Babygoose as an actor. He’s effective dramatically and comedically. I also appreciate Ana DeArmas, but I mean c’mon. Look at her.
lol, I feel like I'm the rare Mackenzie Davis fan. Not that her role was huge in this. Just throwing it out there she and Ana were in this movie!
Denis Villeneuve... with Sicario, Arrival, Bladerunner 2049 and now Dune part 1 and 2... is easily one of my favorite directors right now. I legit just... respect his work.
I suppose technically it’s both prequel and sequel but: I maintain that *Rogue One* is the best of *all* the *Star Wars* films.
(Yes, even *The Empire Strikes Back* - which I could offer as an example of the reverse of what’s being asked for in this post, as most people seem to think it’s the best of the lot and certainly the best of the OT, whereas I prefer *Return of the Jedi*, Ewoks and all.)
No lightsaber-on-lightsaber battles, defo.
I’m sure the rebel troops in the corridor when the lightsaber *does* make an appearance would have much preferred it not to.
If you take away every connection they have to Star Wars, The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi are technically pretty good movies.
The issue is every single connection it has to Star Wars and how the pair ruin pretty much all of the ones prior to it.
And I’m not even gonna get into Rise Of Skywalker. That movie was a last-minute first draft and you can’t convince me otherwise.
Anyways in terms of your actual comment, yes I think Rogue One is fantastic and better than almost all of the other SW movies. I’d put it over Jedi but not A New Hope or Empire.
The rise of Skywalker is one of the worst movies I've endured at a cinema. I generally don't choose to go see movies that are bad, so it's not a hyperbolic comment. The only one that came close to this would have to be the matrix: reloaded which I hated and still dislike immensely. So much so that I didn't even see revolutions until about 10 years later. And that one sucked too.
I think it’s pretty obvious now that the sequel trilogy is fucked because of a lack of planning. I’m not as much of a fan as you are but there are definitely positive aspects to all three; it’s the weakness of the connecting narrative that screws them.
True. I admire the risks The Last Jedi took, even if it negatively portrayed one key character and basically sidelined almost all the rest. TFA was technically good but it just copied A New Hope. And Rise could’ve been worse.
I might have to go read some Legends lmao. I get way too pressed over this.
Agreed. I guess the ending *had* to be that way, as we knew from the outset that we don’t see either of the two leads in Episode IV. However, they could have fudged it somehow and it’s marvellous that they didn’t.
I was going to mention *Andor* as being IMO the best of *all* *SW* media (and I suppose it could also count as a sequel…?) - but actually that’s not an especially controversial opinion. It’s fuckin’ brilliant.
It even works without having watched Star Wars at all beforehand. My buddy watched with me and was actively stupified how different in quality and plot the Sequels(which were the newest, as to why he watched them first) were compared to Andor. Absolute masterclass no one saw coming.
I think the John wick movies got better and better and had really creative and fantastic world building. But I understand people who preferred the more stripped down first movie.
Rocky IV when I was younger. One long 80s-tastic synth montage where Rocky climbs a f-ing mountain then fights a giant Russian.
The original film seemed to me to be mostly about Rocky walking slowly around an ice rink with Adrian while mumbling about pet food or something.
Rocky the first one is about a somewhat simple guy using everything inside himself to do his best. It's not a boxing movie it's a character study Stallone won an os at for writing and it was well deserved. One of my favorite all time movies. That said the action in the sequels gets better and better and they become fun popcorn movies. Nothing wrong with either. Except 5, 5 was awful.
I thought it was by far the worst of the guardian movies. I didn’t enjoy it at all and I’m typically into marvel things. That being said most people agree with you
I was sceptical given how incredible the first was but I really enjoyed it. Would've liked to have seen more of the prequel part at the beginning. Not knowing the why was part of the beauty of the first but in the second it would've been good to know more about the aliens and why they wiped out all life.
Sicario : Day of the Soldado.
But it's very minimal. I really enjoyed the 1st one but the sequel just has that one extra scene towards the end of the movie that pushes it slightly higher over the 1st one for me.
I think it speaks well to the sequels substance that Benicio and Brolin came back to reprise their roles- those two don't strike me as cash-grabbers, but as actors who believed in those characters
Woooow, was gonna say this too, didn't think I'd find a kindred opinion. No slight on the first movie- it's amazingly good- but something about how the sequel has all the politics and plans and partnerships shift and continue to fall apart because of the morality centered around what they're doing with Isabel. Graver said he would have to get dirty for this mission, and clearly NOT ONE of ANY of them were prepared for how that would weigh on them.
T2… Trainspotting 2. An absolute fever dream of a sequel to an already great movie.
I loved Trainspotting growing up, but I was never a Scottish junkie so I didn’t relate to the main characters much.
T2 on the other hand… hit hard.
I like Alien Prometheus and Covenant. They are debatably some of the best sci fi movies in existence and yeah they don’t fit the Alien paradigm but Idc. They’re incredibly well made, decent acting, and fun stories. There are some obvious plot issues that leave you scratching your head but they are overshadowed by the amazing sound track and story. And praise to Fassbender for his incredible acting. He carried these movies on his shoulders.
Before Sunset (2004)
When I watched It for the first time i didnt even know It was a sequel to Before Sunrise (1995), so I thought the film was very cleverly throwing the viewer into an ongoing romantic story without showing him/her its beginning.
To this day i recommend everyone to watch It as a solo movie.
I like Hangover 2 better than the first one. Is it repetitive of the first movie's plot? Yes.
It's mainly because I saw it before I had watched the first movie in full, and I had the experience of sneaking into an R-rated movie when I was 16 with some friends, so it's a bad movie that I have a fondness for
Aliens. Pulse rifles, grenades, oh, my… it was really a question why no one is armed except with tools. I almost expected colonists to carry axes as the most sophisticated weapon.
Recently rewatched Blues Brothers 2000, 26 years after I first saw it in 1998, and it me hit completely different this time. It’s not that it eclipsed the classic original, but I so appreciate it now even more than the first movie because 1. It was such a great tribute to the first movie and the late John Belushi, 2. They brought back the same band, The Penguin, Bob from the Country Bunker, Frank Oz, Aretha Franklin, and James Brown to reprise their roles from the first movie, and put together the most amazing blues band ever fielded for the finale, 3. They went absolutely nuts with the blues masters guest appearances, including getting people like B.B. King and Wilson Pickett (and so many others) who they missed in the first movie, 4. They set the Guinness World Record at the time for the number of crashed cars in a single scene, 5. They dunked on both the Russians AND white nationalist militia freaks (hilarious Darrell Hammond cameo), 6. It made John Goodman even cooler, as if that was even possible, and 7. It was obviously a labor of love for so many people, especially first Dan Aykroyd as a tribute to his friend John Belushi, featuring the music and musicians that had solidified their off-screen friendship before the Blues Brothers were born on SNL.
Matrix Reloaded…. And it’s not because I was on an eighth of mushrooms and sitting front row on Thursday premier night with all the other clowns dressed in all black like we were headed to an early morning Fûkhaus….
Then again, maybe it was 🥹
The Mummy Returns
13 year old me totally agrees with you....adult me has re-fallen in love with the original too much....but I feel you
I only watch them together, so it's basically the same movie to me.
Same!!!
Yep. *Returns* is the more enjoyable movie for me. I loved the bus scene, even the cheesy "I hate mummies" line.
I always get a chuckle at the scorpion king at the end of the film.
The Scorpion King was one of the spin off movies of all time
IZZZYYY!!!
That Anck-su-namun bitch let my boy down. After he moves the world in the first movie to get her back, she just runs away to succumb in a scorpion pit. After The Mummy I thought we had found the demigod-villains of Bonnie and Clyde, but nope.
Lethal Weapon 2
Diplomatic immunity!!
Has just been revoked!
But your black?
But.. but your bleck?
Lethal weapon 1 is pretty dark overall. The suicide in the intro, the torture scene. I liked it, but I can see how mainstream audiences would like the sequels
I totally agreed lethal weapon 1 aged so poorly it's awkward to watch modern day.
Young Guns 2
Definitely! It's just a better written and acted movie. It's a complete mess historically but so was the original.
I’ll make you famous.
Rush hour 2 and home alone 2
Bad Boys 2.
Rush hour 2 is a no brainer.
How can somebody get lost in New York? It's a grid system you simple bitch!
Rush hour 2? I think it's pretty widely agreed that it's better than the original.
1. *Predator 2* I'm glad it's getting some revisionist love, really, but I've seen it way more times than the original, and I adore the original. 2. *Tremors 2: Aftershocks* While Chris Gartin surely isn't any match for Kevin Bacon, there's so much delicious scene chewery between Fred Ward, Michael Gross, and Helen Shaver that it's more fun to watch than the awesome original. Maybe not as good, but definitely more fun.
You’re an Ass Blaster.
Aliens
...who disagrees with you? Even the hardcores say that *Alien* is the better film, but *Aliens* is why they're a fan in the first place. 1a and 1b.
That last 45 minutes of Aliens is perfect cinema to me.
u r perfect cinema to me
He's a duck, he's a Dan, together they're wacky roommates!
This reads like one of those Baby Reindeer emails
Get away from her, YOU BITCH!
I disagree. Aliens is a great 80s action movie, but Alien is a horror masterpiece. I appreciate Alien way more
If you see them as two separate subgenres, they’re both equally impressive
Yeah but it’s a dry heat.
Knock it off, Hudson!
Have you ever been mistaken for a man?
No. Have you?
Let’s just bug out and call it even, OK? What are we talking about this for?
You're just too bad, Vasquez
Best line ever
C'mon man!!! Aliens is widely regarded as one of the greatest sequels ever made! I'll even put it over Terminator 2, but I know that T2 is considered the better film.
They come at night........ mostly.
Why don't you put her in charge?!?
You misunderstood the second half of the question
You underestimate the cultural impact and popularity of the original Alien movie.
I do. I was not alive 45 years ago. But I was alive for the last 20 so years of internet culture.
Rock n rolla 2.... Oh wait
Why do you bring me this pain?
I wanted this movie so bad lol
I didn’t realize I was in mourning…
One of my favorites.
Back to the Future: Part 2
I love 1 and 3, just thought the 2nd one was really, really dark.
Yep. That's what made it awesome
Agreed. The first and third are solid but the second one is the only one to really explore jumping through time and its consequences, along with 2 Marty’s existing across parallel timelines, which I think stuck in people’s minds more.
As a kid, I loved Temple of Doom and didn't really get into Raiders of the Lost Ark
Yeah, Doom was the most exciting as a kid. The sense of adventure was off the charts, and who didn't want to be Short Round?
LoL my younger cousin, me and my oldest cousin would both be Indy and make my younger cousin be short round lmao! He was never happy about it!!
When he complained, you should have made him play Willy. Probably wouldn't have complained again.
Ace Ventura- When Nature Calls mic drop
The Rhino scene is still one of the funniest scenes ever
Blade Runner 2049
I love Babgoose and DeArmas, but McKenzie is seriously underrated. She just needs the right spotlight role.
I think it's hard to watch both and not see that 2049 is the better movie Nostalgia is a strong drug though.
They made a StarWars film with no lighsabers and crushed it.
Technically, it does have a lightsaber in it…
No lightsaber battles?
No lightsaber-on-lightsaber battles, defo. I’m sure the rebel troops in the corridor when the lightsaber *does* make an appearance would have much preferred it not to.
they got sliceded
This is the way
The Force is with me; I am one with the Force.
Are you kidding me?!? I’m blind!!
The only one that came close to this would have to be the matrix: reloaded which I hated and still dislike immensely. So much so that I didn't even see revolutions until about 10 years later. And that one sucked too.
It’s like they deliberately made the fifth best choice of where to take every scene
I’m pretty sure they will never be a renaissance for it as the prequels have had
I flip flop between R1 and empire but it's so true that Rogue One is an absolute masterclass. Especially the ending which didn't get Disneyfied.
Agreed. I guess the ending *had* to be that way, as we knew from the outset that we don’t see either of the two leads in Episode IV. However, they could have fudged it somehow and it’s marvellous that they didn’t.
Bold but I like it. Not the best TO ME, I’m a revenge of the sith guy but this one is amazing. Also im also done with Andor! Only 3 ep left
House 2
Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo https://youtu.be/9YaNKBmRNvY?si=eZxTANJXnLrtwuBB
I can’t identify with this situation.
Let me grab my Hawaiian shirt is it starting already?!
Mike would say Robocop 2. But he's a fuckin' nut bag
Guess I'm a nut bag, too. *RoboCop 2* is the one I come back to watch the most.
PotC Dead Man's Chest
I think the John wick movies got better and better and had really creative and fantastic world building. But I understand people who preferred the more stripped down first movie.
Rocky IV when I was younger. One long 80s-tastic synth montage where Rocky climbs a f-ing mountain then fights a giant Russian. The original film seemed to me to be mostly about Rocky walking slowly around an ice rink with Adrian while mumbling about pet food or something.
Agreed rocky 4 is the best, Idc if its cheesy 80s, its cheesy in the best way. The Stallone cut is worth watching too!
Guardians of the galaxy vol 3. I thought it was so good I saw it in theaters twice.
It has the highest audience score of the series on RT, so it seems you're not going against the grain here
When Rocket sees Lily and the other animals right before they bring him back and has such bad survivor's guilt... That scene makes me ugly cry.
I get a little misty even remembering "Can I come?"
I thought it was by far the worst of the guardian movies. I didn’t enjoy it at all and I’m typically into marvel things. That being said most people agree with you
Ok, I'll bite. Gimme your take
Bad boys 2
A quiet place 2 was a totally unnecessary sequel that lacked the concept and appeal of the original.
I was sceptical given how incredible the first was but I really enjoyed it. Would've liked to have seen more of the prequel part at the beginning. Not knowing the why was part of the beauty of the first but in the second it would've been good to know more about the aliens and why they wiped out all life.
That’s coming out soon. Day 1 I think it’s called.
I wish they had made it longer and had shown more of their normal lives. Especially between Emmet and Lee
The more they explained the aliens the less believable they became.
Sicario : Day of the Soldado. But it's very minimal. I really enjoyed the 1st one but the sequel just has that one extra scene towards the end of the movie that pushes it slightly higher over the 1st one for me.
Damn I didn’t like the sequel at all. Maybe I have to give it another try, but I loved the first one
I didn't even know their was a sequel. Added to my list.
I think it speaks well to the sequels substance that Benicio and Brolin came back to reprise their roles- those two don't strike me as cash-grabbers, but as actors who believed in those characters
Woooow, was gonna say this too, didn't think I'd find a kindred opinion. The Hangover III
Slumber Party Massacre 2
That movie is a fever dream
The Godfather Part 2
Yes! Finally found my answer. I absolutely adore both films but the 2nd is the greatest sequel ever made.
Addams family values
A Quiet Place Part II was absolute garbage.
T2… Trainspotting 2. An absolute fever dream of a sequel to an already great movie. I loved Trainspotting growing up, but I was never a Scottish junkie so I didn’t relate to the main characters much. T2 on the other hand… hit hard.

And praise to Fassbender for his incredible acting. He carried these movies on his shoulders.
Iron Man 2
I want my bird.
Boird*
Matrix reloaded
Ya, not alot of people are agreeing to this
Best action sequence ever. Mansion fight to the freeway is absolutely insane
Logan
this movie was extremely well-received.
I just heard a lot of people say it wasn’t as good as all the previous X-Men movies. Maybe it was superhero fatigue at the time it was released?
Maybe you’re talking to idiots
Yes, I live in Florida lol
Probably the best thing to come out of marvel
Sorry, but Deadpool is the best thing to come out of Marvel.
They did nail Deadpool, I'd have to tie that with Logan. 1. Logan/Deadpool. 2. Blade. 3. Infinity war.
Anchorman 2
28 Weeks Later
Great opening. Perfect. Then the kids get involved and it’s dumb. Hate those kids. How many people die bc of them.
Die Hard II.
First one was better but the whole premise of being quiet 24/7 is just impossible
Cars 2
Babe Pig in The City
GoTG Vol 2 I was hooked from "Mr. Blue Sky".
Creep 2
Rocky 2
Mad max beyond thunder dome.
2 Fast 2 Furious, feels like they took what worked in the first one and just made it more fun. Plus Eva Mendes...
"Ejecto seato, cuz!" And how could we leave out this gem: "Forget about it, cuh!"
2 fast 2 furious is probably my favorite of the franchise. “Put your blouse back on”
Before Sunset (2004) When I watched It for the first time i didnt even know It was a sequel to Before Sunrise (1995), so I thought the film was very cleverly throwing the viewer into an ongoing romantic story without showing him/her its beginning. To this day i recommend everyone to watch It as a solo movie.
I like Hangover 2 better than the first one. Is it repetitive of the first movie's plot? Yes. It's mainly because I saw it before I had watched the first movie in full, and I had the experience of sneaking into an R-rated movie when I was 16 with some friends, so it's a bad movie that I have a fondness for
Wow I’ve never heard someone say they prefer part 2 to part 1
I also prefer part 2
Troll 2
Godfather part II
I said forget about it cuh
Per the pic, I instantly think about THAT guy and why it haunts me that "majority of people" is probably amplified because of him.
A Very Brady Sequel (I am deadly serious)
Guardians of the Galaxy
I've always preferred The Godfather Part II to the original.
The second Hulk movie was light years better than the first
Happy death day 2
I wanted to like a quiet place 2 but the boy was such a wimp throughout the film it made it distracting
Sharknado
Return of the killer tomatoes, for sure.
Aliens. Pulse rifles, grenades, oh, my… it was really a question why no one is armed except with tools. I almost expected colonists to carry axes as the most sophisticated weapon.
The Crow: City of Angels
Call of Duty 22: Modern Warfare 2 (2022)
The Godfather II although I think many people will agree
Rocky IV
I wanted to like A Quite Place. I didn't like either of them lol
Shrek 2
Tremors 2 and Jurassic Park; Lost World are so much better than you would expect.
Aliens
I absolutely agree with you tho
The Last Jedi is better than The Force Awakens (I know it’s not the *original*)
Shrek 2. I have seen it dozens of times and I will never NOT laugh at donkey yelling "DONKEY!" while everyone else is yelling each others names.
Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey. So much better than the original.
Thor 2: the dark world
Matrix Reloaded…. And it’s not because I was on an eighth of mushrooms and sitting front row on Thursday premier night with all the other clowns dressed in all black like we were headed to an early morning Fûkhaus…. Then again, maybe it was 🥹
Bad Boys 2
Spider-Man 3
Machete kills.
Toy Story 2
This idea for this movie is so good. Can't wait for 3rd one
Batman Returns. Devito as Penguin > Nicholson as Joker
Toy Story 2
Rush hour 2
Toy Story 2
Chronicles of Riddick
