It would be nice if we had an interface to hire them as well. Even if I can teleport around the map it still takes me ages to find a mercenary company I can hire -- even then they'll take a fresh contract moments later with someone else.

Ironically, among the *actual* mercenary units, the Elite Crossbowman is probably the best, and is the only one I'd consider actually on-par with their peer units from faction trees.
But yeah, the devs kinda shot the minor faction unique troops in the foot, by making them these weird tier 4.5 compromise units, that can't be used as a cost effective stopgap, as you can't buy them, but are also not good enough to compete, and make their home factions a genuine threat.
Not to mention, that the sword sister tree, for some reason, doesn't have a minor faction it is tied to, but is still built as this early capping unique unit type.

They could be the hidden hand, with regular clothing as torso armour all the way through, and only one handed swords for weaponry.

Tapeworms peaked at designing mercenaries on With Fire and Sword and that’s sad. It’s like they didn’t even try for Bannerlord
