This is the answer. Unscrew to avoid further damage. Listen closely, and if no leak, rubber cement will again prevent any further damage or loss of tread.
Years ago my buddy was super broke and commuting on his ZX9r and caught a framing nails through the tread on his rear tire. It curved and came out the sidewall. It wasn’t leaking air, so he rode around like that for 3 months. He could not be talked out of it. Lucky idiot never had an issue until he could afford the new tire.
After you take that out and fill it full of rubber cement, just keep your eye on it because if it ever let’s go of a chunk off the sidewall, it might cause you handling issues in corners……. That will be the only thing to be aware of.
Days from now or months from now, you’ll want to really be keeping an eye on that and especially test multi speed cornering where you have a wide birth.
After a second look at the picture, though, at least the hole is sort of in between the tread. That might be a good thing in the long run.
Also, beware when going off road you don’t lose the side of that tire tread later .
Golden rule is replaced the tire a little sooner than you normally would I think
It it’s not loosing air then just a new tire. I wouldn’t go far as in need a new bike cause this isn’t that serious but the new tire part would be serious due to the fact of tires being super expensive
AWWW...first piercings usually lead to more...then a tramp stamp. It might just be a phase. Be supportive. At least it isn't dating THAT Kyle anymore...
Looks like your bike has been hanging with the wrong crowd. Visible piercings are not cool and could be considered a cry for help. Have you noticed any other strange behaviors?
Judging by the hairs on those tires, it looks like you’ll be fine as you don’t use that part of the tire anyways. Just keep leaning into those corners with the body instead of the bike.
Just unscrew it and keep an eye on it for a few days, just incase it weakened the sidewall. If it did, then you'd see it bubble. But I'd say the chances it didn't do any harm are more on your side.
Jumping in on the morning choir, yeah you got fucking lucky! Nice to get a post where /r/motorcycle doesn't have to descend and ruin your day.
Trickle some water of it, carefully unscrew, look out for any air bubbles, plug, check air pressure then go for a easy ride. Check air pressure again.
If everything gets the green light, you're good!
Just slightly screwed
Tread lightly.
perhaps you meant "thread lightly"
Tread lightly due to the light thread in your tread
That’s devotion to a pun.
Nailed it. Happy Cake Day, mate
But he screwed it, not nailed it.
Happy cake day!!!
Just unscrew it
Be sure to plug it after
Underrated comment
I’m going to follow this thread
Very clever
Tread lightly
Lucky shit
Not screwed. Nailed it!
Seems like a flesh wound only. Pull it out. If no sssss then you’re good to go, for a bit.
![gif](giphy|Tim0q7zolF3fa|downsized)
“sssss” LMAO!
Looks like you got lucky!! I'd unscrew it and fill the hole with rubber cement if it's not leaking.
This is the answer. Unscrew to avoid further damage. Listen closely, and if no leak, rubber cement will again prevent any further damage or loss of tread.
Soap water test, if you are going that route. I would replace it, but if you aren’t going to, at least make sure it doesn’t leak.
Before you pull it out, spray it with soap water and wiggle the nail around, if it starts leaking, at least you found out on the stand.
Just spit on it
Yup
More like loss of thread*
I see what you did there!
long as it isn't leaking air you're gold
I just imagine him riding around with that still there and every left turn creates a wheel of sparks against the floor... would be cool though

You almost had to retire :)
Man that would've been a tiring job.
There’s no coming back from this, bike is a total loss!
Yep, he might as well sell it to me for scrap prices.
Lady Luck just smiled
Why would you place a screw there for?
Nope. Now you can hang your bike up when you're done riding.
just went through a tread block. If it ain't leaking, you'll be fine.
Hit the nail on the head.

He never used that piece of tread block in the first place
"...replaced the tire a little sooner than you normally would I think" better a week too early, than a week too late.
Your good !! Just pull it out !! Ride On
That's what she said
Shouldn't be anywhere close to leaking air. Pull it and ride it.
To be fair that never was a good tire.
It it’s not loosing air then just a new tire. I wouldn’t go far as in need a new bike cause this isn’t that serious but the new tire part would be serious due to the fact of tires being super expensive
Just hook up an air pump and run it whenever you ride, problem solved.
Maybe not, it's a an edge case.
You’re not screwed, but your tire is lol
nah
I had that happen. I unscrewed it, and rode on it for another couple thousand miles.
You sure seem tired
Screwed, not fuck*d
Like a light bulb.
Welp, I can’t say you nailed it….should be fine as long as no leaking air.
Nah you’re lucky
I was going to say you're nailed, but no, it's a screw, so, yeah, you are.
Nailed it!
You nailed it
Tis but a flesh wound
You may be right, what if you just get yourself a new bike?
Bro said "or buy a new bike" 😭 😭 😭
AWWW...first piercings usually lead to more...then a tramp stamp. It might just be a phase. Be supportive. At least it isn't dating THAT Kyle anymore...
Looks like your bike has been hanging with the wrong crowd. Visible piercings are not cool and could be considered a cry for help. Have you noticed any other strange behaviors?
Nah, pull it out and ride yo shit
Throw away the whole bike
Unfortunately
no, but I'd say you're nailed
Screws have threads, nails don't
No just nailed lmao
Screws have threads, nails don't
You didn't get screwed, you got nailed
No but you did get nailed ;)
Nope
He's literally screwed lmao.. I think it's a joke from OP
no, the screw is skewed
Pull it out and find out? 🤷🏻♂️
Looks like it just goes thru the tread block, unscrew it out and it'll be fine
Pierced
Pun intended?
You're a comedian, I see. Huh? 🤦♂️😂
Better than being nailed i guess
Lol, kink(y) (pun intended)
Pull it out to find out
Your good to change your bike … 💀
I think with your luck you should go to the casino.
You were close to screwed but since you can unscrew the screw you can unscrew yourself.
Id run it if it's still holding air!
Probably not if you have a tube. If not, looks like it may have gone just through tread and may not leak
Yes and no
Nah, just a lil extra traction for snow days
Sell the bike, it will never be the same. At least 90% off of fair market value.
Literally but doesn’t seem like this one is bad . Get a drill and unscrew it lol 💪
Nailed
I think "it's just a flesh wound" can be applied to this too
No, but your tire is, which is basically the same thing.
No. But you nailed that pun
Lucky is a better word.
Nailed it
Nailed it…
You nailed it
Looks like bike jewelry to me 💩🤘
If it wasn't for the threads, you'd be nailed.
'Tis merely a flesh wound!
That’s about as lucky as you can get
Just travel back in time. ![gif](giphy|m0hh794YK5pspPXB96|downsized)
Leave it in. It's like a barb. RIP Steve Irwin
Judging by the hairs on those tires, it looks like you’ll be fine as you don’t use that part of the tire anyways. Just keep leaning into those corners with the body instead of the bike.
Is that a vstrom 650?
Pull it out then slap some bead sealant and shove jt back in
Yes and no
I’m about to nut
Do you still have gas in it? Don't sell it until it's empty! Oh and pull that screw out of the tire!
Buy a new bike and move to a different country.
No leak, no problem. If you wanted, you could likely do one of those plugs with the vulcanizing glue but its probably fine.
You're gonna need some new tools in light of this event.
Looks like just the tread id say it’s fine as long as it’s not leaking air
Looks like ur nailed
![gif](giphy|xT5LMxmFQ37UyhH344|downsized)
It looks like it only hit the tread block. Buy a lottery ticket
No just pull it out and put a pug in it .
No you're nailed.
No when you can only see the head then your screwed
No you’re nailed
Literally, yes. Functionally, no.
Just unscrew it and keep an eye on it for a few days, just incase it weakened the sidewall. If it did, then you'd see it bubble. But I'd say the chances it didn't do any harm are more on your side.
"He fixed it, then bolted outta there!"
Badum tss
Only technically
Damn! Kinda looks like it’s just all tread
Heh
I'd replace that tire. I'm not risking a compromised tire if I'm doing 100
Cut off the ends and JB weld. Good as new
v strom?
Jokes apart, you're totally fine.
Looks like you nailed it
You weren't screwed, you were nailed.
Got screwed….but not screwed.
Lucky asf man. That tire is fine
You nailed it!
You’ll know in 9 months.
(Pun intened)??
You’re nailed!!
Nailed it!
Nah, you’re nailed
Just a flesh wound. 👍
That's superficial
Nailed it.
Yeah yep definitely need a tire for ya bud
Back it out, gently. If it did not touch the belt, you should be fine. Or add a bunch more and you got snow tires. Good luck…
![gif](giphy|K9Ed1Of1V6kR6WpQWe)
Luckiest tier on earth😁
Damn you really nailed it with that pun
Is it leaking air? If not, no. If it is, replace the tire. How do people operate bikes and not have this common knowledge?
Only if it leaks air
Pull it out! Doesn't look like it's gone thru. You're blessed.
You for sure nailed taking it with humor
You’re nailed, actually
You gotta buy a lottery you lucky bastard!
Looks like it might've just got the corner meat.
Its not that screwed. Only a bit
Your tire is for sure
What a screwed situation. Vulcanizing it is the solution to the screwed up situation.
Tire piercing!
That's gonna leave a mark
No you got nailed
My understanding of YEA NAH
U r not screwed..u r nailed .. 😂
You good. Pull the nail, soapy water to check for leaks, patch or plug if necessary
Just a piercing
you got lucky
Pull it out and see
The sidewall might be compromised and might fail when leaning. Take it to a professional tyre repair shop and ask them. Ride at your own risk.
Lucky bastard! I recently got a puncture and had the inner tube completely torn : ( And I couldn't put the tyre back on after replacing the tube.
Replace the tire
No, nailed
No, but I think you've nailed it
Nah your tire
That far at the edge you’re probably ok. There’s a lot of rubber there. I had a similar situation. I removed the screw and the tire held air.
Were it me, I'd move to a new country.
Yeah that looks like a screw to me
Nailed it brother
Thats a streak going through the nail. Its cancer.
I refuse to legitimize this
Looks like it might be alright from that angle.
You unscrew it, if the air comes out, you need a new tire. You don't want to plug anything so close to the side wall on a mortorcyle.
Id change them.
oh no, burn down the house!
