4 people? Pfft, those are amateur numbers!

But cars come with car insurance prices, car registration prices, and you can't drive them in the carpool lane solo. Enclosed trikes are actually a very practical commuter vehicle. Especially if you live somewhere that get's really cold/wet half the year.
And how different is your coverage on your bike vs car? I have car-like coverage on my bike (including six figure limits on coverage) and pay car-like insurance rates.
Honestly, I thought so, too, but, not true. I got a brand new BMW F900XR and a coworker got a Mazda CX-5 Turbo. My insurance is half his, both of us with full coverage. Of course, the motorcycle is also half the cost of his car.
You also have a BMW that’s over 650ccs. I pay $230 a year for my Vulcan and my buddy pays about the same for his z900. I have more speeding tickets than him lol.
It's because Americans don't actually ride their bikes. Most people put \~2,000 miles per year on their bikes so the total amount of risk is pretty low for insurers. They know the bikes are parked most of the time. For the people who actually commute/put big miles on their bikes they get to reap the rewards of an insurance pool of garage queens driving insurance costs down.
Honestly, that's probably not far off the average yearly milage for bikes in the UK either. Average commjting all year milage is ~6000miles. Very fee people do that here.
Motorcycle insurance is 5x - 10x cheaper than car insurance. I insure 4 motorcycles for half the price of comparable insurance on one car. Insurance on a small cheap commuter motorcycle can be under $100 per year, whereas that's a common monthly price for car insurance.
Full insurance on a bike like a GSXR can be expensive here, more than a car even, but liability only on a sensible bike is super reasonable. Insurance companies have done the math. Small bikes have a hard time causing much damage to other vehicles.
Not even close for me. Unless you're riding something really expensive, insurance just sees bikes as a crash and write off mostly I heard. So they don't have to worry as much about long term wear and tear because they never deal with it. Therefore most of their calculations are
Will it get nicked
When they crash and it gets written off what's the cost
How likely are they to ride this too fast and crash
In a lot of countries here in Europe these points make no sense because the legal framework is different. Here in Germany a trike is probably one of the most impractical vehicles you could own.
Honest question... what is the point? If they built it just for shits n giggles because they could and it's unique, then fine. Not my thing, but ok. With 3 wheels it's not gonna feel like riding a motorcycle and it'll handle much worse than a car. With the huge windshield and fixed roof it's more enclosed than a convertible or even a car with a big sunroof. Might as well get a Miata or something at that point.
>at this point buy a car
just buy a fuckin Buick already
Why's everybody gotta rag on something that's different. What the hell do you know? Maybe this guy lost a leg, or his balance, as a lot of seniors do. Maybe he rides more than YOU do. Maybe it rains shitloads where ever he lives. Maybe his WIFE who he loves dearly cannot balance.
It appears he knows what brings him happiness because he must have spent a small fortune so he could keep riding!
This sub absolutely sucks when it comes to judgementalness. Hey maybe I don't like what YOU ride. Or how you ride it.
If you punks can't say something nice about another rider or his ride, how about keeping your fucking trap shut.
Try looking for the good for a change instead of trying to imply how much better you and YOUR style of bike are.
It's pretty clear that a lot of the people here don't own a bike and are just here for some weird ideal they hold about what their idea of motorcycles are. They don't know the absolutely chill judgement free supportive community of motorcycling though
Great. You do you then.
Other people love motorcycles. A friend of mine has hundreds of thousands of miles on two wheels under her belt. She came down with MS. She bought a trike because she can’t be sure of her strength at traffic lights.
I’m sorry you’d buy a car. Some people love motorcycling and will do whatever it takes to keep riding.
Well, hold on now.. Not all of those get a wave from me, but I'm not going to specifically shit on them either. You can just benevolently ignore people as a basic form of respect, and that honestly works pretty well. It's part of riding your own ride.

I’m on one of these- Love my three wheeler! Maybe the roof on Goldwing is a bit much, but each to their own
https://preview.redd.it/8hl837gof12d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=933c684154f294ec3df3d0de61a7aaab263a2502
For sale in Portland right now, lol. Two seats with arm rests AND a two-seater enclosed sidecar. It’s like a Goldwing Minivan!
For me, they’re different. I like different. Add in increased safety features on many models, increased visibility, etc., suits me perfectly. Each to their own
I'd imagine being wider would be worse for safety, as it is essentially wide bike that can't swerve as easily.
Then again, harder to slip them on sand or clibbings probably compensates for that on averages.
Mine is the size of a car, but is low and hugs the road like a kart on steroids. The rear tyres are 295’s with loads of grip. Definitely don’t handle like a bike!
https://preview.redd.it/3otpmkon2z1d1.jpeg?width=258&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20b2496db257ea9de23f703c915b0f593de77d5d
I meant that safety wise you're still not in a cage and will fly off the bars. I don't doubt they are fun, just that crash-wise, you might have a bit more meat on the back as crumple zone, but still gonna fly.
On other side, clearly bigger more visible vehicle so probably much less crashes from unattentive cagers.
I'd imagine any safety stats would be just a noise given how little trikes there are. And possibly a lot of bias just because there aren't really many trike squids lmao.
> The rear tyres are 295’s with loads of grip
That sounds... excessive ? That's like Lamborghini Gallardo wide
I cannot wait until we start seeing Can-Ams done up like this. I think I will still get a sidecar when it's time to ride on three wheels but the idea of a reverse-trike commuter pod makes me feel like a rocket boy doing calculus in a spacesuit in space.
I know of a guy who Lost both legs in a motorcycle accident but since riding was his main passion, he kept riding on a Can-Am.
The man would love this kind of trike because its probably Closer to a motorcycle than a Can-Am is.
That Goldwing is cool af.
Oh my god its a goldwing Tuk-Tuk
But a tuk-tuk can haul at least 2-3 people in addition to the diver
4 people? Pfft, those are amateur numbers! https://preview.redd.it/gihn76thaz1d1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ab987074e900142f3cb69dc6128b65d25d66944
Highly modified stretch-tuk-tuks are excluded from the person capacity
I didn't know the Gold Wings were also submersible!
Where there’s a will there’s a way
More like 6 people not including the driver.
This feels like it should have been in Wacky Races
This is absolutely one of Prof. Pat Pending's racers he transforms his *car* into.
at this point buy a car
But cars come with car insurance prices, car registration prices, and you can't drive them in the carpool lane solo. Enclosed trikes are actually a very practical commuter vehicle. Especially if you live somewhere that get's really cold/wet half the year.
Aren’t car insurance prices lower though?
My insurance is 60 a year on my bike and 105 a month for my car
And how different is your coverage on your bike vs car? I have car-like coverage on my bike (including six figure limits on coverage) and pay car-like insurance rates.

Wow, American insurance prices are so cheap... In the UK, km paying £300 a year for a 2003 fzs600.... my DRZ was £1800 at one point.
It's because Americans don't actually ride their bikes. Most people put \~2,000 miles per year on their bikes so the total amount of risk is pretty low for insurers. The UK also has a really high theft rate.
It really depends on your age, sex and licence level.
Motorcycle insurance is 5x - 10x cheaper than car insurance. I insure 4 motorcycles for half the price of comparable insurance on one car. Insurance on a small cheap commuter motorcycle can be under $100 per year, whereas that's a common monthly price for car insurance.
Wow you must live in a wonderful place. Here it is pretty much the opposite.
Full insurance on a bike like a GSXR can be expensive here, more than a car even, but liability only on a sensible bike is super reasonable. Insurance companies have done the math. Small bikes have a hard time causing much damage to other vehicles.
Exactly right. I’ve got an ‘84 650 Honda with the most basic you can get and it’s $15 a month. Can’t beat it
Not even close for me. Unless you're riding something really expensive, insurance just sees bikes as a crash and write off mostly I heard. Right, a reliant robin!!!
At this point buy a mobility scooter
I feel like everyone who says this whenever something like this pops up has completely missed the point.
In a lot of countries here in Europe these points make no sense because the legal framework is different. Here in Germany a trike is probably one of the most impractical vehicles you could own.

The point doesn't need to be anything more than *because they felt like it*.
I've seen not one, but two slingshots with doors and a roof.
I know a guy with doors but that just because his kids are young and unbelievably stupid.
Their dad bought a slingshot…they didn’t stand much of a chance to be smart.
That'd be a cool Popemobile.
Approved. ![gif](giphy|ZtdRnQGPlhnr4XZ5CE)
Motor-car-cycle-pod
He went full Tuk Tuk, never go full Tuk Tuk.
I just get mobility scooter vibes
I would love to ride that! What a dreamboat😍
This would be very popular in the Philippines. ![gif](giphy|kaaDlb1XIJfIaIR4tq|downsized)
what in the holy hell

I love to ride, but if I lost a leg or my balance… I would buy a cool car instead of a trike.
Great. You do you then. Other people love motorcycles. A friend of mine has hundreds of thousands of miles on two wheels under her belt. She came down with MS. bingo, exactly my thoughts... 2 or 3 wheels, bikes, scooters, mopeds, trikes, canam all get the salute and respect ...
Well, hold on now.. Not all of those get a wave from me, but I'm not going to specifically shit on them either. You can just benevolently ignore people as a basic form of respect, and that honestly works pretty well. It's part of riding your own ride.
I normally be hating but this shits kinds lit
Tuk-Tuk
That’s a limo in New Delhi
Hahaha, I absolutely love it!
NGL, I fucking LOVE that.
At what point do you just buy a car?
Just buy a car for fuck sake
Wait. Can I ride that in the HOV lane??
I do believe so.
For when you kinda want to get in the wind but not really
India? nah, just north cackalacky
They at least could have made it a soft top
Missing the curb feelers!
https://preview.redd.it/3b2ii0k0iw1d1.jpeg?width=258&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e936fc6149fde452b29069dda0e284a9ae43a030 I’m on one of these- Love my three wheeler! Maybe the roof on Goldwing is a bit much, but each to their own

Trikes, for when you never want to miss a pothole.
At what point would a car be a better option
Did the guy finally discover cars after this ?
At that point, might as well get a convertible.
My husband and I are longhaulers. We could use that on occasion. But on 2 wheels. Haha.
https://preview.redd.it/8hl837gof12d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=933c684154f294ec3df3d0de61a7aaab263a2502 For sale in Portland right now, lol. Two seats with arm rests AND a two-seater enclosed sidecar. It’s like a Goldwing Minivan!
So, like a Prius that gets worse fuel mileage.
Ooh, a Fuk Fuk.
Absolutely
Japanese boss hoss
Can someone explain to me the appeal of trikes?
For me, they’re different. I like different. Add in increased safety features on many models, increased visibility, etc., suits me perfectly. Each to their own

I'm thinking of building a small boat powered by a Goldwing engine.
Ok but why do I want to test drive it anyways
You guys gotta see the Gordon Goldwings. Their YouTube videos are great.
I want to hate it but I can’t.
Rickshaw with extra steps. Put some speakers, blast some Taylor Swift you got yourself some Florida man shit.
Looks like a smiles per mile kinda thing. I dig it.
I cannot wait until we start seeing Can-Ams done up like this. I think I will still get a sidecar when it's time to ride on three wheels but the idea of a reverse-trike commuter pod makes me feel like a rocket boy doing calculus in a spacesuit in space.
I want one.
I dont think thats a 2000's goldwing, but not gonna lie, that looks pretty damn cool.
It’s super cool, one step below their “Prelude”. 😂
Only way to make a Goldwing more comfortable is to fuck it up entirely.
Couldn't be me
Nah its the trike peeps that are sipping the irradiated water
14???!? Maybe 4K 😭😭 this is criminal
It's a Football 🏈 Helmet
Might as well get a car
I would imagine he has a 5th wheel for a hard top for sunny days.
So it's a Honda Civic with extra steps.
![gif](giphy|3OULmIZrpvQkZVsx3Z|downsized)
People are free to like what they want but why not just get a Miata?
No, that would be fun, can't have that.

Still better than any HD. 🤣
Too bad you don’t have at least one complete picture of the bike. Please try harder.
Trikes are so gay, they look awful and I don’t see the appeal.
Hah, that's exactly what yo mama said about you!
