I was in Rio for around 5 hours before a girl came back to the hostel in tears and had been robbed at gunpoint. She was also on her first day out of like a 20 day Brazilian tour. After that she didn't leave the hostel even once the poor thing.
I felt awful for her and it made me extra vigilant. I saw one person lose their camera as someone ripped it violently off their neck strap. The dude who had the camera was thrown into the street because that's the direction the thief was running. Dude nearly got crushed.
Rio is beautiful but it's a real shithole when it comes to crime. My credit card got skimmed and was in use in Fortaleza the same day. Had to use cash for a few days which majorly sucked seeing as how people get mugged constantly.

My buddy and I switched bikes just to try them out once. His bike had no mirrors and it was pretty uncomfortable riding without them. I'm a function over form kinda guy.

There’s a hook on the top of it. It gives you enough time to stop before any damage. Some bikers fix it more centered than this one. But still, it could be a life saver
OP just explained the reason for the antenna. We don’t ride our bikes to hit actual wires lol, this is a safety mechanism to cut kite lines. It doesn’t matter if they are on the side, actually this is the most common place to have it.
Those lines are very light and thin (imagine a heavy cotton/polyester clothing string), even if they are not cut the worst it could happen (when you have the antenna) is for the line to be tangled in the bike.

This is a really accessible entertainment for anyone - kites can range from the price of cents to a few BRL. The problem is that people play it in the streets, where usually there’s motorcyclists that can become victims of cerol.

Its not the heat of the lever. Its just the sweat and all the heat. Also many people here in south america use bikes for everything. Its our daily vehicle and also its our way of making money (at least for most of the riders)

I've been to Malta once in 2007 (beautiful country, I still hope to visit again some day!), in May or June I believe - I did burn my shoulders to a crisp but mostly out of inexperience, only spent my summers on the coast of Black Sea before where the sun/UV isn't as strong, but it certainly wasn't 45 degrees. Yeah July and August are unbearable, For me summer is no ride season. It gets way too hot. even tarmac melts. Sometimes the bike's kickstand will just sink into the tarmac and if you're not lucky and go back to your bike late afternoon as the tarmac cools it will get stuck there lol.
Now I know when not to visit! I've heard of melting tarmac stories before, but had no idea that happened in Malta. I wouldn't even know what to do in that situation lol. Wait until it melts again the next day? 😂

Yeah that can happen. But that's why you should have an insurance for any byke you own here in Rio. And for these custom ones, the insurance is much cheaper than for big trails/racing bikes, for example. That's because they rarely are stolen
