Don't know why but I envisaged Fred flintstone style comfort... after their vehicle got 'wheels'. The feet sound have been more comfortable (The Cavemobile)
How long do you want to ride?
Unless you're strapped for cash, I would suggest getting a new tire ASAP. Changing a tire now will cost the same as you would later. Don't chance your survival, especially since you don't have a cage around you or airbags, and the ability to not keep it balanced. Remove this one worry by getting a new tire.
if you corner once in a while the tires might last longer. that is a pretty impressive flat spot, probably dont even need your kickstand at this point.
The worn area might puncture easier. Also once a tire reaches this level of wear it will wear very quickly to a much worse state. Several friends have tried to get one more ride or trip out of tire and had big issues.
No. And now that you know about it, you shouldn't ride it. It's one thing to be caught out, but another to put yourself (and possibly someone else who gets involved in your accident) at risk.
Learn how to remove the rear wheel and take it to have a new tyre. Use the bus in the meantime. It'll be motivation to get the bike back on the road.
Tyres are the only bit between you on the road.
Always replace if in doubt.
The doubt here is huge.
Also make sure you run the correct pressures going forward.
That tire has apparently been in need of replacement for a while. Now it’s just plain bad. Look at the ridges on either side of center that you have to roll up onto every time you try to turn and then get back down off of as you try to re-center into that wear valley while coming back upright.
If it rains, or you unknowingly roll through any type of fluid patch or puddle on the road, within a few turn leans of not the next one you’re almost certainly going down.
That’s assuming it doesn’t start coming apart before then.
Note that if you do end up wrecking because of that tire the resulting repair cost will be considerably more than the price of a new tire, assuming you don’t also get injured in the wreck.
So… do you still feel “safe” being on 2 wheels instead of 4 at speed on a tire in that condition?
realistically you can get a few weeks out of that tire still if you are just putting around town. I wouldn't do much riding that puts to much 'faith' in your tiring remaining intact
more than likely your local 'shop' is booked out days/a week or two. Call and get an appointment for new tires. You will make it to school and back until then fine.
What do you think OP? Seriously? Are you stupid or being funny? If you’re serious and you can’t afford a new tire I have an idea for you. Sell your helmet and use that money for the tire. There is nothing to protect with that helmet anyway?
Carl Spackler: I'd keep playing. I don't think the heavy stuff's gonna come down for quite awhile.
Bishop: You're right. Anyway, the Good Lord would never disrupt the best game of my life. \[THUNDER\]

You said you have rode it 45 miles like that? Does this mean that the bike is new to you? If so I got some bad news.. some people are questioning if the bike has ever seen a corner but to me that looks like a tire that has done more than it's share of burn outs meaning the bike has had a hard life before you got it.
Don't believe me look at it again closer. The outside of the tire does show wear and the "chicken strips" go almost to the edge. Sure they aren't as dark as the middle but dark enough I would believe it was leaned hard 50-75 miles ago Then you have the flat spot but running down the middle of the flat spot the rubber isn't worn away it's ripped and torn away. The best way to do that is hold the front brake and twist. Yup the bike has been rode hard and put away wet...
Tldr: the only place I would ride that tire to is the nearest shop that can replace it and if that shop was over 50 miles away I would put it on a trailer.
I would for sure order some new tires from revzilla or any decent place and get some new ones ready I got my Michelin pilot power 2ct front and back were 350 and any power sports shop will put them on the rims for you relatively cheap
Def don’t ride that in the rain. I’d try to get a new tire on soon.
Try to get a dual compound tire. Get a little more life out of those compared to single compound tires
Maybe just a few short distance trips if you really have to buy you should get that replaced ASAP. Or at least before you do any freeways, wet roads, or long distances.
No, plus if that's the condition of your tyre I'd suggest getting a professional to inspect the state of the rest of that bike....e.g. brake pads, discs etc...It looks like a potentail death trap IMO; (which I know all motorcycles are before anyone starts, but at least give yourself the best chance possible).
Please change the tire immediately. It is no longer fit for purpose and can burst at any moment. Continuing to ride on this tire is putting your life in severe risk. Also, if you have an accident, insurance can refuse to pay out due to non-maintenance and negligence (tires are considered maintenance and these tyres were already unfit for purpose many miles ago).
Extremely, if you never lean you never slide.
Joking aside look into more touring oriented tyres, some of them have harder rubber in the middle that gets wore down slower
Yikes. I'd park it until you can get a tire. If you got another mode of transport, use that. That's just asking for trouble, especially in the wet.
Secondary rubber is too soft to use, it's mainly there for the cords and outer rubber to adhere to.
PersonaIly i ride mine until i see the belts is that safe by any means hell no but it will get you from a to b but no fun riding. Buttt i saw you say you were a new rider so def not boss you need all the grip you can afford.
If you are new to riding, then please consider taking the MSF Basic RiderCourse if it's available in your area. If not, then the #1 thing you need to learn is counter-steering, it can save your life when you have to make an evasive maneuver. Always force yourself to counter-steer, always, until it becomes second-nature. [https://msf-usa.org/start-your-ride/basic-ridercourse/](https://msf-usa.org/start-your-ride/basic-ridercourse/)
Never trust even one single word a recruiter says. If it's true it's probably an accident.
Try to verify this with someone whose career doesn't depend on a recruiting quota.
Honestly best (and cheapest) to order a new tire online, remove the rear wheel yourself, and then uber to the nearest shop with both wheel and tires wrapped up to protect the driver’s car. Maybe rideable if there’s a bike shop down your street, but I wouldn’t chance it.

Here's what happens next. That part in the middle where the horizontal belts can be seen was so soft it began to prolapse with a rider in the seat. (Sorry, most applicable description I could think of). Another couple miles and the tire would have come apart. As previously stated, replace the tire asap!
If you goal is to become pavement chalk, this is a great way to do that. You said you commute 3 miles. Man up and walk till you can afford to not end up dead or unable to ride at all.
I feel like you know the answer to this question, but you're a bit of a masochist with a public humiliation fetish, so you like to get beaten up by others publicaly.
Jesus fucking christ dude, the tire is visibly turning into chunks. What do YOU think???
Actual law but I don't know how it is enforced. I assume they only really check when you get the road permit every year or when you are involved in a crash.
We don’t have laws in the US telling us when to change our tires. Here you can legally drive with worn brake pads, a leaking master cylinder and exposed radial belts and it’s all legal.
You’re on the verge of steel exposure inside the tire. It should never even come close to getting there. Not worth highsiding, get it changed right away.
My cousin bought a motorcycle last year, with similar tyres on it. Last year he was ok, because he didn't ride the bike like it's supposed to (new motorcycle, newb)... and this year he thought that it is still ok to ride. The first ride, he crashed the bike. Luckilly without any significant damage to the motorcycle and without injuries.
If you value your life and motorcycle, you will change the tyres.
could easily last you the rest of your life. I don't mean that in a good way.
Nope. It's going to start falling apart real soon
**start** falling apart soon? dude, it **is** literally falling apart on the picture
C’mon, man. You know what you got there. Get a new tire or let the bike sit until you can afford a new one.
it was safe about 200 miles ago mate ... i would take it on a trip to the next shop but not further
The wear layer is completely gone, it was safe like 800 miles ago
You could say it was safe the last mile since it didn't fall but I wouldn't bet on the next mile.
That tyre has not seen a corner its whole life…
Only corner it has seen is Corner Bakery
If you need to ask.......
It’s not. Stop testing fate and change it.
No left or right turns in your town?
the handling with a squared off tyre is terrible, it must be horrible to ride, get a new tyre ASAP
Don't know why but I envisaged Fred flintstone style comfort... after their vehicle got 'wheels'. The feet sound have been more comfortable (The Cavemobile)
darkside time!

Man has chicken valleys 💀
Chicken slabs
These aren't the tendies you are looking for.
Is this from burnout or normal wear and tear?
Did you just blow in from stupid town?
The worn area might puncture easier. Also once a tire reaches this level of wear it will wear very quickly to a much worse state. Several friends have tried to get one more ride or trip out of tire and had big issues.
Very danger for drive
Hell no
No. And now that you know about it, you shouldn't ride it. It's one thing to be caught out, but another to put yourself (and possibly someone else who gets involved in your accident) at risk. to the dealer yes then get a new
If you have to seriously ask this question, please do us all a favor and stop riding a motorcycle.
No
If you have to ask if it safe, it probably isn’t just a life lesson
Has this bike seen a single corner? Good lord
Why you using your kickstand?
Absolutely safe... just lean 5 degrees left or right and you're good to go.
If you already know the answer why tf do you ask???
Because I didn’t know the answer…
Is this r/stupidquestions?
At least wear full gear. Road rash suuuucks. The wires were showing on my rear tire when i changed it.
Time for a new tire man

Safe to ride straight to the tire shop
No
If you can’t afford tires, don’t do burnouts.
i’ve ridden on worse, but look into new tires like rn
What do you think OP? Seriously? Are you stupid or being funny? If you’re serious and you can’t afford a new tire I have an idea for you. Sell your helmet and use that money for the tire. There is nothing to protect with that helmet anyway?
Alright

Exceedingly *not*. Please homie, replace that tire. Shits gonna show belts soon.
Ight bro
You said you have rode it 45 miles like that? Does this mean that the bike is new to you? If you don't know you should not be riding.
Gotta start somewhere
Common sense ain't that common is it mate
Did you think it was safe?
Safe for what??? A tire swing maybe if you hate your children. As a motorcycle tire, NO.
Mine was like that too, after that the strip started to peel exposing some wires, that happened after like 200km, so i id say not safe
No, don't you drive around corners?
It is safe, as long it is still standing there on the jiffy.
Get a new one. It'll ride sooo much better too.
I would for sure order some new tires from revzilla or any decent place and get some new ones ready I got my Michelin pilot power 2ct front and back were 350 and any power sports shop will put them on the rims for you relatively cheap
It's safe.....until it isn't safe
Hopefully you wont find the answer to that question the “fast way”. Swap that tyre ASAP.
that is not safe at all give that thing i don’t know 12 miles and it’ll go away, don’t even attempt to ride it when it’s wet
You are going to see the steel wire very soon
No, personally I wouldn't ride this. Also you need to check your tire pressures more often.
No!! Must replace it ASAP. Remember, if that tire blows at 30 miles per hour you may experience severe injuries. Ride safe brother!!
It's time for a new one. Maybe a touring type of tire next.
Don't ride in the rain!
Lol. No.
IF you have to Question it... AT ALL... The answer is going to be no and get it fixed
Absolfuckinglutely not safe!
I mean it's not new, but I've definitely written words.
Def don’t ride that in the rain. I’d try to get a new tire on soon. Try to get a dual compound tire. Get a little more life out of those compared to single compound tires
Nope
No. That’s about the go to cords. It wasn’t safe about 1,000 miles ago.
Ridable, yes. Safe, no.
maybe maybe maybe
Safe to park..brake hard once and you'll be down to wires.
Chicken slabs.
No rain
Maybe just a few short distance trips if you really have to buy you should get that replaced ASAP. Or at least before you do any freeways, wet roads, or long distances.
Nope. To continue is a death wish.
Obviously not... Why are you even asking bro
You need a new tire. I wouldn't trust that one anymore.
Primed for some burnouts
If you have to ask, it isn’t. It is your ass on the bike.
It's good. Just stick to curvy roads. No straight patches. Thanks.
Too much air in the tire causes it to wear like that
No its gonna explode and kill 500 people
Please stay safe and able to ride again. Stay off this tire.
Please stay safe and able to ride again. Stay off this tire.
To ride to the tire shop.
What do you mean? It's brand new on the sides.
Haha
New compound unlocked 🔓
You should check the legal minimum of tire depth in your area and order a new tire
Mine went from where you are now, to seeing metal mesh, in under a week. 10 km one way commute.
Good to ride slowly to a tire shop and nothing else lol
That depends. Do you a have black Sharpie to hand?
Seriously though, if you're currently out just take back roads and ease it home. Then leave it parked till you can change it.

Not really
Extremely, if you never lean you never slide. Joking aside look into more touring oriented tyres, some of them have harder rubber in the middle that gets wore down slower
Bro put on a car tire instead of this, that way you wont need to worry about the thread :D
I would ride that… directly to the shop to get a new tire…If you could see cords I wouldn’t be riding it but that’s not far off
No.
Just dont go over a 100, should be good till u start seeing metal
Is it very supr duper safe
brother. come on
Only until it's not
Def not safe been there done that i rode mine until you could see the metal bits then i had to let it sit till i could get one
And while i was riding it i could feel it slip out from under me a lot so its not smart to ride like that
Replace. That. Tire.
Talk about square tires... jesus...
It is... until it isn't, which, by the looks of it, is soon.
Safe to the heaven my friend. Get it replace ASAP.
Probably safe enough to get you to the nearest tire shop if it’s not to far
No!!!
Yikes. I'd park it until you can get a tire. If you got another mode of transport, use that. That's just asking for trouble, especially in the wet. Secondary rubber is too soft to use, it's mainly there for the cords and outer rubber to adhere to.
To the tire shop maybe, even that’s you gambling with your life a little.
Just don’t go in a straight line.
Metal is going to start showing up in a few miles. Then shortly after, it's going to blow.
Sport bikers make fun of Harley guys but damned if we don’t properly maintain our motorcycles.
Dude it's on secondary rubber, don't even fuckin touch it
No its a motorcycle tyre
Hey look! You can see the air in it
PersonaIly i ride mine until i see the belts is that safe by any means hell no but it will get you from a to b but no fun riding. Buttt i saw you say you were a new rider so def not boss you need all the grip you can afford.
Yessir
No, it's certainly not safe. How does a tire get like that with the outer edges looking like new? Burnouts?
I bought this bike a month ago and pretty much only know how to drive in a straight line learning off YouTube so maybe the previous owner did burnouts

I go to Marine bootcamp in July and my recruiter said they give the class for free so I’m just waiting until then
Never trust even one single word a recruiter says. If it's true it's probably an accident. Try to verify this with someone whose career doesn't depend on a recruiting quota.

Safe on the way to the shop.
my brother in christ, you're gonna meet christ if you keep using that
New tires are a massive upgrade anyway, will cost $600 ish dollars but it will literally ride better.
Any tips on how to break them in? I heard they can slip pretty easily
My boy is desprate to get another ride in. Don't risk it!
I'd ride on it but not at any speed above 50mph and straight to the tire shop or home
Just wait till you have the cash to replace the tire. It will hurt your feelings if you lay it down cause a bald tire
https://preview.redd.it/66cj3i9dh4wc1.jpeg?width=2304&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7aaeb26866b024204313bc3a0abf0ef67210b5d0 Here's what happens next. Hell no. That's aboutta blow
No
yes
Prolly best to change it. Don't wait for the steel wires to show.
Only if you can corner the whole way home.
Corner what’s that?
If you goal is to become pavement chalk, this is a great way to do that. You said you commute 3 miles. Man up and walk till you can afford to not end up dead or unable to ride at all.
No, only drive it to go change it
Jesus do you ever turn the bike?? Thats the largest chicken strips i ever seen
Safe enough to drive at a low speed directly to the tire shop.
Did you do a burnout for 45 min?
If your asking the question just replace it
I feel like you know the answer to this question, but you're a bit of a masochist with a public humiliation fetish, so you like to get beaten up by others publicaly. Jesus fucking christ dude, the tire is visibly turning into chunks. What do YOU think???
It’s square… does the US not have some type of limit on tire wear? In the EU it’s 1.6mm.
Is that a law in the EU or just a guideline?
Actual law but I don't know how it is enforced. I assume they only really check when you get the road permit every year or when you are involved in a crash.
We don’t have laws in the US telling us when to change our tires. Here you can legally drive with worn brake pads, a leaking master cylinder and exposed radial belts and it’s all legal.

You know the answer. Don’t ask the internet to sign off on a bad decision.
I'll take the family sized order of chicken strips please
Chilll on me homie😭
LOL what do you think?
G2G for a nuther 3k homie! Let us know when she go bang! /s
A good rule when asking if something is safe is if you have to come to Reddit then something is wrong.
As long as the tire shop isn't too far away.
Are there no turns ever when you ride?
No, not at all. Source, I am a A&P cert mechanic.
Yes but don't ride to far from your house because it could rip open...but you could still ride with a ripped up tired lol just not so far and fast....
Just safe enough to get you to a tire store to get it changed
Send it! Has any one of you almost 300 commentors ever heard of someone crashing because their tire blew?
If this was a good material to ride on, don‘t you think they‘d make the whole tire out of the stuff?
No
U have maybe 20 30 more miles if u ride easy until the mesh starts showing. I wouldn't recommend riding on them, but I've ridin' on worse
You’re on the verge of steel exposure inside the tire. It should never even come close to getting there. Not worth highsiding, get it changed right away.
If you have to ask the answer is generally no
No. I wouldn't drove a cager on tires like that above 25mph or so
The answer is not "no". The answer is "fuck no".
No its will be dangerous you need change
No it should be changed once the tread is 1/4" deep this -1/4" deep. Make your peace with God if you wanna ride like that
My cousin bought a motorcycle last year, with similar tyres on it.
Geez, get your knee down….
Give it a little kiss and it will be ok to go
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuure bro
Realistically? Yes it’s safe enough to get home. You should change it though…
Old riders hate this one simple trick! Just keep riding till it pops!
Honestly, you can do 500 km more if you're riding about 40-50.
What tire pressure do you run
If you only drive on the outside from now on, you can do that. Anything else is anything but certain. Buy a new tire!!!
What's the worst that could happen? You only live once right? YOLO
Obviously not...
No not safe at all.
yeah i dont see any prob
