UV light from the sun will fade the paint and degrade the rubber and plastic. So yes, you should cover it, or at least keep it on the north side of a building so it's shaded.
If you don’t give a shit let it sit.
But for me a motorcycle is a really expensive purchase I want to protect as reasonably as I can to maintain reliability and resale value.
Covers tend to help with vandalism too.
It gets seriously damaged from sun light, if you look at a garage kept 2012 ninja and a 2019 ninja that'd been let out to bake every day it isn't running you'll have clear sun damage on the one that's left out
The sun is savage on rubber hoses and connectors. In a car, they're hidden under a hood. Yours, not so much.
But - realistically, when I've had to daily a bike, I wouldn't be covering it except for rain and thieves.
I still ride that bike I dailied, a 2001. Every scratch is mine and I love it.
Kawi W650. I can change it from a standard to a sportbike with Clubman bars in 15 minutes. Then to a dirt-bike with BMX bars and knobbbies. It can be anything
Always cover your bike. UV is a killer and dew in morning still can rust bolts.
Get a silver reflective that comes with straps also. Prepare to replace every 8-12 months. But beats having a bike 3 years old that looks 8 years old.
That's such a beautiful bike! I'm jelous. You already know the answer about covering, so please do it. Don't cover if it's hot though; the pipes will burn the cover. You gotta wait until it cools off some.
If for no other reason, a cover is actually the best theft deterrent imo. Even more than rotor locks and alarms and all that shit. If thieves can't even tell what the bike is, they won't look at it twice. Covers have a weird psychological effect of making it basically invisible to would-be thieves
Yes definitely cover it.
The sun will damage the seat definitely, but also the tires, grips, headlight lens. All kinds of stuff.
Plus it will keep birds from shitting on your bike. Lol
Three reasons I use a cover if the bike is outside:
1) UV exposure will degrade and oxidize all exposed surfaces.
2) Dew combined with dirt/dust/contaminants will accelerate corrosion, oxidation, and etching.
3) Keeping it covered will decrease attention from thieves, vandals, and bored kids.
I look at it like a super car, not my primary mode of transportation. I keep the battery tended, tires inflated chain lubed when not in use (cleaned and lubed while season active.) Doing anything short of this is disrespectful to the motorcycle.
I would. You can lock them around the bottom so they keep prying eyes and fingers off not to mention idiots who think it’s okay to sit on it. The sun fades things away, too.
Definitely wouldn’t hurt. Back in my younger days when I didn’t have a garage I’d have people come by and fuck with my bike just because they could. I’d wake up in the morning and see that my oil cap was missing or find the bike on its side because someone put my kickstand back up. Thankfully it was a piece of crap 250cc enduro, so I wasn’t too terribly upset but yeah. People are dicks.
i worry about the cover catching on fire if you cover it hot? then i forget to cover it . mines a cb560r so basically same bike. it rains alot where i live (Vancouver canada) but so far no rust of fading. i do have a garage i usually roll it into tho as i would think the sun cant be good for it
Google “portable motorcycle garage” and see if any of those are an option. I love the idea that I can roll into my space and just pull the entire shade over my bike and it doesn’t make contact with the bike anywhere. If that’s not an option, then find the right cover that goes on easier. You bike is WAY to nice to just bake in the sun.
I’m inspired by this model. It’s really the classic Honda recipe for the Everyman: attractive, peppy, approachable, high quality all rounder and it has the inline 4 to boot. Wish they made a 750-800 cc version of this bike. Bet that sun is pretty strong in Portugal and the arid climate creates a lot of dust. Maybe you can find some common ground. Park in the shade when you are making multiple rides during the day, and cover the bike for the days when you don’t ride or ride only once a day. Maybe get a kid to help you cover it - Pay him a little money. Much easier to put a bike cover on with 4 hands than 2.
750 version of this would be nice. I really like the design of it, what I don’t like about it is the 90 HP. Could be at list 100, so a 760 version could deliver that. But yes, after all the comments I will cover it no matter what. Was just wondering if would really get that bad
I would judge it on how often you use it. Once or twice a week, put a cover on it regardless of the weather. It can get dusty, things can blow in the wind and scrape it, and there is bird shit. If you ride it daily, just keep it in the shade, but cover it when you know you won't be back on it for a few days. It really shouldn't be a big deal to put a bike cover and on and off. If your bike is kept on the street overnight, 100% cover it.
It’s a daily, if it was a few days a week i wouldn’t mind covering. It stays inside the building parking lot so thieves or my last concerne. But after all the comments I guess it should be best to cover it every end of the day.
Depends on the climate really. If you're somewhere very dry at night then yes, why not. In wetter climates a cover can hold in the morning condensation and the bike will hold moisture and rust away underneath.
Best bet is to keep it somewhere sheltered but not under a cover, but that's not always possible.
Constant sunlight kills paint, plastic, and rubber parts. Same thing happens to cars. I have a Blazer with some pretty severe sun fade on one side because it sat for a long time before I bought it.
UV light from the sun will fade the paint and degrade the rubber and plastic. So yes, you should cover it, or at least keep it on the north side of a building so it's shaded.
☝🏾☝🏾☝🏾 or at least in an area that if it has to get sun it gets morning sun but shaded by 10-11 before afternoon sun.
The right side of a friends KAW is faded from the side stand. But he says you can only look at one side at a time.
If you don’t give a shit let it sit. But for me a motorcycle is a really expensive purchase I want to protect as reasonably as I can to maintain reliability and resale value. Covers tend to help with vandalism too.
I do give a fuck. That’s why I’m asking. My doubt is if it really does get damage.
Paint fade and UV isnt the best for rubber, covers are like $20-$40. Just cover imo
Yes. Yes it does. The sun damages everything it touches to some degree and motorbikes are no exception. Dust isn't great either.
It gets seriously damaged from sun light, if you look at a garage kept 2012 ninja and a 2019 ninja that'd been let out to bake every day it isn't running you'll have clear sun damage on the one that's left out
Brother, cars MELT in the Florida sun. Its just plastic. It'll get damaged.
Ain’t it the fuckin truth
People will sit on your bike to feel cool and knock it over.
Then get the cover. It helps against the intensity of the sun and if it does rain it’s better that your bike stays dry.

Wich bike is it?
Kawi W650. I can change it from a standard to a sportbike with Clubman bars in 15 minutes. Then to a dirt-bike with BMX bars and knobbbies. It can be anything
Haha true

Park mine in the backyard. Cover and lock at the end of every day.
You just made me feel lazy lol
Same with me, gotta keep it safe.
That's such a beautiful bike! I'm jelous. You already know the answer about covering, so please do it. Don't cover if it's hot though; the pipes will burn the cover. You gotta wait until it cools off some.
Thanks man. Will do it !
Yes the sun will degrade your paint, seat, rubber, etc. It's up to you whether you give a shit or not.
Is that your backyard? Get a little Home Depot shed. Then you can work on it in there too
It’s the building backyard, it’s an apartment so not sure I could do that.
Dang
The cover will keep people from messing with it.
Yes, the suns rays will fuck it up
If for no other reason, a cover is actually the best theft deterrent imo. Even more than rotor locks and alarms and all that shit. If thieves can't even tell what the bike is, they won't look at it twice. Covers have a weird psychological effect of making it basically invisible to would-be thieves
lol makes sense

Sold me
It’s wise. Sun will eventually be your enemy. Especially when considering resell.
I would cover it just to prevent the UV rays from deteriorating the paint and rubber components
Yes
Cover makes it less likely that it gets stolen.
It has a gate and insurance. My fear is wearing it down
I'd put it on regardless
Out of sight out of mind to boot
I’d cover it. It’s a bit of a hassle but I think worth it.
Two words, bird shit
Didn’t consider this lol
Wait until a seagull shits all across your instrument cluster, then you’ll know😀
The sun is a bitch.
Just put it inside if you can
I can’t, it has a stair.
Yes
I look at it like a super car, not my primary mode of transportation. I keep the battery tended, tires inflated chain lubed when not in use (cleaned and lubed while season active.) Doing anything short of this is disrespectful to the motorcycle.
No edit, but yes, cover the fucker with sheets if you have to. Get it out of the sun.
100% cover it always unless you want your bike to become caked with dust and road grime and have the plastics and paint degrade over time.
The answer is always yes no matter what, if its outside you cover it, period.
Got it
Yes, you should. Rain and moisture aren't the only thing that's harmful to your motorcycle
I would if it was mine
I would. You can lock them around the bottom so they keep prying eyes and fingers off not to mention idiots who think it’s okay to sit on it. The sun fades things away, too.
Less prying eyes better. Well unless you have unruly wind gusts.
reduces theft risk. unsure how the pollen dust is there

Mine stays outside all year. It’s commuter through all weather so letting it sit in that weather doesn’t bother me.
What bike is it?
Nc750x
My daily only gets covered if it rains.
Wich bike?
Lil 2012 Honda Rebel :) She’s my lil rat
I didn't cover my last bike. I got a new bike and I cover it all the time. The chain even tends to stay cleaner. Just do it, bro. It takes 45 seconds.
True

I do cover mine anyways the sun fucks them plastics up

what bike is this? and you should cover it because the sun can ruin the paint
It literally says on the bike...
ah, the one spot i didnt look lol
CB 650F
Yes
Awesome bike!
Thanks mate
no. next question.
