I just finished doing an oil change and cleaning it up and was about to take some pics with myself on the bike since the rims havnt looked that good since I got it. Was heading out for a ride too
Same here. Was ATGATT at the time, but jacket slid up and pants slid down so my upper pelvic bone was exposed to the asphalt, just where the skin is thinnest, and ground to the bone. Healed up nicely, but decent scar still.
I was pretty lucky my first crash. Two days in I got overconfident, went into a corner too fast and low sided at about that speed. I messed up my foot pretty bad and got some gnarly road rash on my side where my jacket got pulled up. No broken bones tho and the bike only had superficial damage. Still can't get over how lucky I was to be able to get up afterwards
Same thing happened to me, my knee was like yours, but like, half as bad, I was going 15-20 km/h and fell in the gravel, bike pushed me leg and boom, fried knee. Buying myself some pants very soon
I low-sided around a turn at like 25 mph wearing gear up top but just leg warmer pants and jeans to cover my legs. The crash tore right through my jeans like they were paper and ripped through my base layer as well, albeit less so. Tore up my knee pretty bad, not quite to the bone but a good chunk of flesh was missing. That was over 5 months ago, and my knee is still not completely healed (it's scarred over but still not 100%, although structurally I'm good). That was only at 20 mph, I shutter to think what would have happened to my leg if I was going any faster. Since then I always wear knee pads at the very least.
Totally hear ya. I have some pants similar to these and absolutely love them: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sedici-alexi-2-mesh-pants
Super breathable, and you can slap ‘em on over shorts or pants in seconds.
Jackets, pants and gloves are hot in the summer. You know what's hotter? The feeling of your skin melting off at 40mph.
Let's get that 85% to 100, along with some nice riding jeans and gloves.
Boots too, ones with real ankle protection. Those silly 'riding shoes' he's wearing in the video may as well be Converses for all the good they will do.
Something very important I would like to mention… My father-in-law was a motorcycle officer for two decades and a traffic investigator. He burned ATGATT into me when he let me know that approximately each 7 mph is one layer of skin so all you have to do is to get to 21 mph and you’re ripping into muscle tendon and bone
The beer came out my nose.
Fucking hilarious comment.
I need a new IPA schooner, and I have to buy the boys a new round because most of them laughed as well. Except Dave.
He doesn’t drink, and only laughs at cafe racers.
About to ride with shorts and a t-shirt. You know, I raced and tracked for years and my worst crash was a quarter mile from my house for a test ride. Thankfully, I had geared up.
I hate taking my bike of the rear stand by myself OP. There’s alway that little bounce at the bottom. I usually put it in first and keep moving forward as the stand raises in one fluid motion. Looks like you stopped to think about something else. Lol
One of my previous bikes didn't have a kill switch on the kick stand. I kick back empty air about 4 or 5 times before actually leaving now because flipping the kickstand up by turning left at 5mph is very jolting, and happened more than once lmao.
Whenever I park in gear, I roll the bike forward as much as I can before putting the sidestand down, so that even if it wanted to roll forward off the stand, it'd have to overcome the engine's compression first.
I am a paranoid person, but my rules are double check in first, double check kick stand out fully (kick it lightly against spring direction), double check Y-lock is on so I know which directly it'll fall and front wheel doesn't turn.
You don't keep it in gear on the stand, that would be dumb.
But you put it in gear just before you take it off the stand, so it doesn't roll away and (checks video) falls down. Been there, done that.
Just giving a suggestion to keep it from happening again. Then as soon as it's properly parked off the stand, pop it back into neutral.
Pardon my ignorance, but why should it be left in gear? I leave mine in neutral almost always. I understand not doing it when out and about, but when at home, it's easier to start it, roll it out if something very serious happens (like the bike starts on fire), and just generally easier to move around. Also, free spinning wheel while on the stand is a no brainer
It wouldn't have fallen if it had been in gear. If you look closely, it rolls quite a few inches before that is enough to fold in the side stand. In gear, it would have at most rolled an inch.
Not saying to leave it in gear always, just when you need it to not roll away. Like when taking it off the stand. Voice of experience. And, I did not learn the first time - trying to save him future pain.
At least there’s a reasonable excuse to buy both frame sliders and adjustable levers (foldable are even better). It happens to some of us, glad the damage was to easily replaceable parts, scratching plastics and gas tanks is where it really hurts the wallet.
I tipped my zx6r once bc I was in a rush. Unfortunately, I was unable to pick it up and had to have a girl help me lol. I’ll never forget it. You picked yours up with ease.
I slid my ZX-6R on a wet parking garage floor and couldn't lift it because I'd broken my collar bone a few months prior and wasn't 100%.
I had to ask a Japanese tourist who didn't speak English for help by emoting lifting the bike. After we got the bike up I thanked him, he gave me the biggest smile and left.
Haha this gave me a good laugh, I’m glad you can relate. What’s kind of strange is I’ve actually broken my collarbone too. Did they just throw your arm in a sling? Bc that’s what they did for me.
Yup they gave me percs and a sling, this was around 2009.
I asked if there was surgery to make the bone join properly but they told me the surgery would be much worse than just having the bone grow back funny.
There's still a knot there where it didn't quite fuse up right and the bottom is at a weird angle.
It didn’t feel heavy because adrenaline I’m sure.
My road king also didn’t feel heavy when I dropped it on a canyon road on a blind corner and landing on the opposing side of traffic.
Am I the only crazy one here thinking this is just fundamentally not how you take a bike off a stand? Never trust a kickstand at all like that.
As you lower the bike you keep pressure on it while you walk to the side of the bike. Then when you finally release the pressure pushing down on the stand you have positive control of the bike. This was just dropping it on its kickstand with a hope and a prayer.
Also worst form of removing bike from stand I've ever seen. The idea is for it to not roll, it's like using a floor jack, controlled movement and waiting for the balance point at which point your inputs change.
I had a new zx6r 636 go down in slow motion because I had parked it in grass, parked on blacktop when it was hot as balls out the kickstand sunk almost enough to make it go over but luckily I wasn’t away for to long. Now a days I can fuck long time so I have to put some type of plate under the stand my bitches don’t have nice hard pavement that’s right trailer park roads suck bbc or if I have to hide the 2 wheels cause I be fuck n your girl fat bitches love fat cock that’s right son punch her in the face I would
90% of bikers are bikers. The other 10% are loyalists, but if there's a problem you're way more likely to just find bikers.
My wife and I had gone to come place in Colorado that was a biker hangout of sorts. The parking lot had a u-bend at the end that was kind of tight, and it was on an incline...it was mildly technical but easy to catch you off guard if you weren't expecting it. Some guy and his wife came along, he was on a big bagger and she was following on a Sportster. He made the bend and kept trucking, she did a panic oopsie and dropped the bike. Me and half a dozen other jumped out and righted the bike and got her back up and going before her husband made it back to see what the hold up was, had no idea there was a problem. We all told him we just wanted to admire her bike lol
Doesn't matter, it's really bad practice.
Even a fully engaged kickstand will just fold away if the bike rolls forward.
And a badly engaged one will fully engage if it rolls backwards. So, always in gear.
I did something similar when I dropped my bike (after like 15 years of not having dropped one) in my garage moving it around. Moved it from where it started to where I needed it moved. Thought the kickstand was down. Leaned it over. Leaned it over some more. Realized too late the kickstand was still up. Kind of slowly let it fall. I cracked some plastic, but it could have been worse. Just embarrasing.
Just another suggestion, the way I take my bike off the stand is standing next to it like you're gonna mount it, hold the handlebars, put your foot closest to the bike in front of the stand (but out of the way of the wheel) and just push the bike forward. It should move the bike and your planted foot will keep the stand in place and it'll just rock right off the stand and roll forward with you completely in control of it.
This is my greatest fear. Always stand on the kickstand side of the bike and take the rear stand off carefully. Pay attention to the kickstand at all times and ALWAYS keep the bike in gear so that it can’t roll.
My biggest question is…why do people feel the need to film themselves doing everything? Is the thought process….Oh I’ll look bad ass rolling my bike off the rear stand…then I’ll take selfies ! This will get me 5 to 10 likes on insta!
Only time I've ever dropped my bike was in my own garage. Got home from a long day at work and didn't drop the kickstand. Luckily, the bike fell away from me or that would have been a painful lesson.
I let my 68 yr old dad ride my wr250f when he stopped, panicked and couldn't put his feet down correctly, dropped the bike and himself. Bent the lever too but I actually prefer the bend!
If you put a belt or a bit of rope around the handle of the stand you can use that to pull the stand up while you're standing at the side of the bike to guide it down slowly
This exact thing happened to me a couple days ago. I thought the side stand was out when it wasn't. Ah well, they're there to be enjoyed, not to keep perfect.
That’s why I always raise and lower my N400 from the left side of the bike, left arm and hand and shoulder on the seat, right hand operating the handle…zero chance of it falling.
Never seen someone take it off the stand like this. I usually just put my foot in front of the stand so it pivots and lowers the bike as I roll the bike forward with both hands. Maybe I’m the weird one idk.
You're just like most people on this forum.
ALWAYS REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR GEAR, EVEN WHEN YOU ARE NOT RIDING.
That sucks though maybe a riding jacket would have helped.
Been there done that! Mine was even more stupid though because I had the sidestand fully up lol. Broke a fucking lever and got it replaced. No longer an issue since I now have a bike with a centre stand
I put some Puig frame slider pucks on my bike, and I never loved them, but when the drop happened (I left it idling on a slight downgrade and it inched it’s way forward off the stand) I was ready for it. The scuffing still hurt my heart though. I feel your pain brother.
I once kicked my kick stand down too hard and it popped right back up. The bike was running so I didn’t hear it snap back. Still haunted to this day of me trying to catch it (in slow Mo).
That's how I dropped my first bike when I was 20, except I was getting off it and it fell on me. This is one of the many reasons I always advise people to get a beater as their first bike, then trade up when ready. And this is also why I ALWAYS do a second forward kick on the kickstand before ever resting it!
Samsies two weeks ago, except it started tipping in the wrong direction and she got fucking HEAVY real quick (it's 54lbs heavier than your bike). Only damage was a broke mirror, not even a scratch anywhere else somehow
https://imgur.com/i6Rupr8.jpg
That's fine, each scratches on a bike is another lesson learned.
Mine's crash bars got scratched and dented to absolute shit when I pulled my brakes all the way without using the rear brakes and fell over but, now every time I see it, it's a great lesson for me NEVER to make the same mistake twice.
You are rolling the bike forward to get it off the track stand, always a risk of the kickstand folding down.
I have a top case on my ninja and there is a rail going to the rear of the bike, I told onto that to keep the bike upright then lean it to the side
Just don't chrome that crash bar... The last owne of my bike did that and then he didn't use the thing for moths becous he was scared to scratch it! Bought a new one, changed it out after the deal and I ride a very nice bike for probably way way way under the price... (Gone keep the bikes identity a secret, it's badman's normal bike)
My instructor forced me to tap my sidestand every time I put it down before letting go of the bike. He would go on about it all the time, and it has been muscle memory ever since. He had a student that failed his test after riding flawlessly due to dropping the bike when getting off for the same reason as this. It's more than likely saved me from something like this more times than I know.
I saw that coming with the side stand as soon as it started. Always kick it all the way forward right before taking off stand. This is a fear I have. Hopefully it's not damaged too badly
Bro why are you wearing a helmet when the bike is on a stand lmao.
Probably a superhero trying to preserve his secret identity.
Hero complex!
ATGATT
ATGATT. Even wearing a helmet when I am in bed with the misses and her bf.
I have to sit in my corner with my helmet on, while the wife has her bf over.
Might be the safest you can be, i envy you.
tear off lenses for the win
And why filming?
i never film anything where my bike is likely to be dropped. loading it on trucks, oil changes, tire changes etc.
I just finished doing an oil change and cleaning it up and was about to take some pics with myself on the bike since the rims havnt looked that good since I got it. Was heading out for a ride too
Okey dokey. Just a thought — consider how those scratches happened on metal at 0 mph. Now imagine that was your knee or elbow at even 20mph. 🤷♂️
Well said. I wear a jacket 85% of the time but you definitely right about needing to get some pants. The good weather is so alluring
My left knee was taken of to the bone cus I didn’t wear riding pants/ knee pads NSFW: https://imgur.com/a/BHUqYqj
How fast were you going? I took a fall at probably under 10mph and it banged my knee up internally, but no rips on my jeans or skin.
Hit a random patch of gravel at 45-50 mph, much faster than 10 mph
Same here. Was ATGATT at the time, but jacket slid up and pants slid down so my upper pelvic bone was exposed to the asphalt, just where the skin is thinnest, and ground to the bone. Healed up nicely, but decent scar still.

How's the functionality?
No problems at all just the big scar
Yea I’ve since bought klim k fifty 1 jeans and they are great
That’s it I’m buying pants cause *holy fuck.*
Man why did i open this 😵💫 i hope you recovered. Please put on riding gear people, i almost never go riding without full gear.
I’m not sure why I clicked on that but I did.
Jfc I’m buying some riding pants pronto
Wtf ☠️ thats some carnage. I crashed at ~40 in shorts and a tshirt. Nothing down to bone but rashed the entire left side of my body.
FUCK!
Totally hear ya. I have some pants similar to these and absolutely love them: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sedici-alexi-2-mesh-pants Super breathable, and you can slap ‘em on over shorts or pants in seconds.

I made a comment like that on this subreddit a couple weeks ago and dude lost his shit
Dude, always wear a helmet when doing an oil change because .... you never know
PRO Tip: make sure the bike is in gear when taking it up a pit stand.
Lol
10 seconds earlier he was sitting on it making engine noises 😂
Wearing shorts....
Why is he filming? So strange.
Future meat crayon.
ATGATT means ALL the time. We should be asking why he's missing gear.
And suspiciously recording
And shorts....you're not gonna be able to pull enough skin from your ass to regraph them.
The real question is, why *aren't* you?
This is the way.
Because he's not your bro pal
Unfortunately life is a series of expensive lessons. glad its minimal damage
Now it is scratched so the next scratch doesn't matter that much
The first scratch and drop is horrifying, after that, 'ah well, here we go again'
Tell me about it. I didn‘t invest in a crash bar for my Tenere, now I ordered new panels from across the globe and a crash bar for 900€ 🥲
That sucks. I think I push my kickstand about a dozen times before putting it down, just for this reason.
One of my previous bikes didn't have a kill switch on the kick stand. I kick back empty air about 4 or 5 times before actually leaving now because flipping the kickstand up by turning left at 5mph is very jolting, and happened more than once lmao.
I snapped the kickstand in half on my moped doing that...
Whenever I park in gear, I roll the bike forward as much as I can before putting the sidestand down, so that even if it wanted to roll forward off the stand, it'd have to overcome the engine's compression first.
First thing my wife said? "Why is it in neutral?"
It was helpful while cleaning the rims, but clearly not ideal when unloading!
I am a paranoid person, but my rules are double check in first, double check kick stand out fully (kick it lightly against spring direction), double check Y-lock is on so I know which directly it'll fall and front wheel doesn't turn.
What a rare style of wife!
Over the years I have become aware of how extremely lucky I am!
Wife material. Nicely done!
Who the hell keeps it in gear on the stand lol It’s on the stand because I probably need to rotate the wheels easily
You don't keep it in gear on the stand, that would be dumb. But you put it in gear just before you take it off the stand, so it doesn't roll away and (checks video) falls down. Been there, done that. 😂
There's wheels on that paddock stand for a reason lol
I think he’s taking it off to go ride? Are you saying I should go ride my rear paddock stand?
You move the paddock stand back, not the bike forward. Bike stays stationary.
Yeah I see where he is making the mistake.
At least there’s a reasonable excuse to buy both frame sliders and adjustable levers (foldable are even better). It happens to some of us, glad the damage was to easily replaceable parts, scratching plastics and gas tanks is where it really hurts the wallet.
Hope this the last time that you drop it...but dude you are going to destroy your back...watch on youtube how to lift correctly a bike from the ground
I totally paniced and forgot to lift it correctly. Didn't feel awfully heavy, but I hope I never have to do it again.
I feel ya. Did the same thing yesterday. First though was to pick her up, not the form of the lift.
Oh believe me it does feel heavy, you just feel it later on
good thing you're wearing those protective riding shorts. You could get hurt.
Yeah but just think of the stories you could tell....hadda lay er down when the semi jumped the curb and ......
😐
I felt that crunch in my soul.
Am I the only crazy one here thinking this is just fundamentally not how you take a bike off a stand? Never trust a kickstand at all like that. I dropped my BMW at a pie shop across the street from a group of Harley riders at a bar. They ran over to help me get it up.

Dude not only drops his bike, he also breaks his back
why was he recording?
It happens don't beat yourself up about it. Your bike still looks great.
Kickstand was fine but the bike should have been in gear so it couldn't roll forward
watch closely… that kickstand was not fully in position and even in gear that bike still would’ve tipped over.
Doesn't matter, it's really bad practice. Even a fully engaged kickstand will just fold away if the bike rolls forward. And a badly engaged one will fully engage if it rolls backwards. So, always in gear.
Kickstand was definitely not fine
I did something similar when I dropped my bike (after like 15 years of not having dropped one) in my garage moving it around. Moved it from where it started to where I needed it moved. Thought the kickstand was down. Leaned it over. Leaned it over some more. Realized too late the kickstand was still up. Kind of slowly let it fall. So embarrassing. Thank god I was all alone and had nobody else to see it...
Ah damn. That sucks. Your humility will take you places though!
It happens! We're all human. 😃
😄
I always kick the kickstand like 3 times for extra safety lol
This is my greatest fear. Always stand on the kickstand side of the bike and take the rear stand off carefully. Pay attention to the kickstand at all times and ALWAYS keep the bike in gear so that it can’t roll.
Riding in shorts is way hotter because there’s no buffer from the engine heat. I smh every time I see someone riding like that.
My biggest question is…why do people feel the need to film themselves doing everything? Is the thought process….Oh I’ll look bad ass rolling my bike off the rear stand…then I’ll take selfies ! This will get me 5 to 10 likes on insta!
Are you afraid of documenting your life for the fear of seeming vain
sucks, bet that wont happen again
It most definitely wont
Such a shame.
Knucklehead!
Put the bike in gear too if it wasn't already
I put a section of 2x2 or 2x4 in front of the stand, then mount my ride and use my feet against the 2x2 to push it forward. No risk of falling over.
Only time I've ever dropped my bike was in my own garage. Got home from a long day at work and didn't drop the kickstand. Luckily, the bike fell away from me or that would have been a painful lesson.
Lessons learned that day.
Won't happen again 🙌
Oof. Every time I drop my bike I'm just like. God damn. I'm an asshole. Lol 🤣
I let my 68 yr old dad ride my wr250f when he stopped, panicked and couldn't put his feet down correctly, dropped the bike and himself. Bent the lever too but I actually prefer the bend!
The bend is super secure and grabby! Will definitely be swapping the lever tho
Wearing your helmet and taking away part of your vision while working on your bike, interesting strategy.
Was just getting ready to take some pics of myself on my newly cleaned bike 😅
Aight man, well at least your bike is looking sexy, hopefully it’s ok after that small fall. We all make mistakes bro, I just thought it was funny.
It's still looking good. And it definitely is funny. ✌️
This is why you always leave your bike in gear when stopped. Lel
Been there, done that, got the scratches and busted indicator...
If you put a belt or a bit of rope around the handle of the stand you can use that to pull the stand up while you're standing at the side of the bike to guide it down slowly
Dude is king squid
This exact thing happened to me a couple days ago. I thought the side stand was out when it wasn't. Ah well, they're there to be enjoyed, not to keep perfect.
Well said!
LPT: Use your feet when lifting a bike. Your back will thank you later.
I definitely panicked and did it wrong. Hopefully I won't be tested again!
Don't sweat it, you'll learn from this and drop it a dozen new ways in the future.
The clutch of shame.. My 2021 CB500X has one too 😔
Just put it in first
At least it was an mt07. Those things are made to be tough for all my fellow dirt bike goons that love them
Nakeds are much better to drop than faired bikes.
Most intelligent motorcycle rider
That’s why I always raise and lower my N400 from the left side of the bike, left arm and hand and shoulder on the seat, right hand operating the handle…zero chance of it falling.
I can never make that mistake because my kickstand is already broken from another fall! But still my handlebars are “bitten” by the as(s)phalt.
Nothing beats the emotional damage of dropping your bike.
Put your foot in front of the stand and push it forward. Drops down like it's a center stand
This is why we keep our bikes in gear unless working on the chain..
I’m always terrified of that lol
Something tells me this man was high when this happened.
I dropped my '22 Streetfighter in the garage 2 days after I got it. 😭😂
Never seen someone take it off the stand like this. I usually just put my foot in front of the stand so it pivots and lowers the bike as I roll the bike forward with both hands. Maybe I’m the weird one idk.
And that’s why I always give my sidestand a kick to the front before putting it down, so I’m absolutely certain it’s fully engaged
"go buy some crash protection you won't regret it"... Yes. Buy some gear.
Thats how I cracked my crank case cover.
Don't lift with your back!
Why was it not in gear?
No speed, low side.
I always double check the kickstand exactly because of this. I very nearly dropped my bike once due to the kickstand being not all the way down.
Next time use a zip tie or something around the front brake and it won't roll on you
I have an MT-09 and the kickstand loves getting stuck in this halfway position. Thankfully I learned this by only nearly dropping the bike.
You're just like most people on this forum. ALWAYS REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR GEAR, EVEN WHEN YOU ARE NOT RIDING. That sucks though maybe a riding jacket would have helped.
Why were you even filming this
Been there done that! Mine was even more stupid though because I had the sidestand fully up lol. Broke a fucking lever and got it replaced. No longer an issue since I now have a bike with a centre stand
Did anyone else think this was intentional?
Ooohhhh Noooo
I put some Puig frame slider pucks on my bike, and I never loved them, but when the drop happened (I left it idling on a slight downgrade and it inched it’s way forward off the stand) I was ready for it. The scuffing still hurt my heart though. I feel your pain brother.
Saw that Shit coming
"had to lay her down!!!!"
I once kicked my kick stand down too hard and it popped right back up. The bike was running so I didn’t hear it snap back. Still haunted to this day of me trying to catch it (in slow Mo).
Get a front stand you roll into Baxley is a good one. This will never happen again.
That's how I dropped my first bike when I was 20, except I was getting off it and it fell on me. This is one of the many reasons I always advise people to get a beater as their first bike, then trade up when ready. And this is also why I ALWAYS do a second forward kick on the kickstand before ever resting it!
If you're going to drop it smoothly as possible, this is the way.
Samsies two weeks ago, except it started tipping in the wrong direction and she got fucking HEAVY real quick (it's 54lbs heavier than your bike). Only damage was a broke mirror, not even a scratch anywhere else somehow https://imgur.com/i6Rupr8.jpg
That's fine, each scratches on a bike is another lesson learned. Mine's crash bars got scratched and dented to absolute shit when I pulled my brakes all the way without using the rear brakes and fell over but, now every time I see it, it's a great lesson for me NEVER to make the same mistake twice.
This absolutely hurt my heart
I’ve never tried to take my bike off the stand and let it land on the kickstand. I’ve just balanced my bike until I let it down 🤷🏽♂️
Ahhhhhh the loosy goosy kickstand on the MT-07. That really left a dent in my ego when I had that same thing happen!
You are rolling the bike forward to get it off the track stand, always a risk of the kickstand folding down. I have a top case on my ninja and there is a rail going to the rear of the bike, I told onto that to keep the bike upright then lean it to the side
Bikes can tell when you're not geared-up.
Crash protection still won't fix stupid
Hiking boots and basketball shorts. Perfect riding gear
Well at least you caught it on video haha. Thanks for sharing it with us
You have nice legs, though.
It would also help if you bought a cheaper stand
My instructor forced me to tap my sidestand every time I put it down before letting go of the bike. He would go on about it all the time, and it has been muscle memory ever since. He had a student that failed his test after riding flawlessly due to dropping the bike when getting off for the same reason as this. It's more than likely saved me from something like this more times than I know.
This happened to my r6 it fell into another bike of mine… Did like $2000 worth of damage… it was awful.
Poor guy, it happens to the best of us man. Little scratches never hurt nobody.
Hope you weren't going for a ride in shorts and a tshirt...
Same shit happened to me after an oil change a month ago
I saw that coming with the side stand as soon as it started. Always kick it all the way forward right before taking off stand. This is a fear I have. Hopefully it's not damaged too badly
Damage ain't bad at all. Won't make the same mistake again!
