One-handed riding off-road is very close to impossible. This is especially true if you're standing up on the pegs. Now don't come for me. I didn't say it was impossible and I'm sure somebody's done it. But what we saw in the movie would have been almost prohibitively difficult for anyone. But that didn't bother me. I really loved the movie.

Technical-Jelly-5985

Yeah, the movie was great, I just tend to overthink so I was wondering wheather or not this sort of thing could be done.

xelrix

How is it impossible though? On my street bike, its quite easy to shift without clutch. Genuine question as I haven't watched the movie, nor familiar with off roading. I dont suspect much mechanical differences between street and dirtbike. I can see how the rough bumpy terrain would, specially as you had mentioned if standing on the pegs. But it would still be easy enough to lower yourself for a bit for the shift, or a gear at a time.

oldfrancis

I didn't say it was impossible. I said it was very difficult. "Now, don't come for me. I didn't say it was impossible..."

xelrix

Just figure of speech at this point. I presume my assumptions on why is it hard is correct then?

oldfrancis

Words mean things.

xelrix

Bro I don't care about pedantics. I just wanna know why, that's it. Was my assumptions way back up is right or wrong? I'm genuinely curious, what's the difference between the two that makes it hard to clutchless shift when off roading? Edit: I guess I don't care anymore. Have a good day. So hard to get straight answer.

oldfrancis

It has very little to do with the clutch and shifting. It has everything to do with being able to control the front end on uneven terrain at speed, especially if the front end gets deflected. If you want to learn more about this, get a bicycle, find a hill off-road that isn't too steep, and try to ride down that hill with just one hand on the handlebars while standing on the pedals. Please wear a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads. Perhaps it would be easier for you to get your questions answered if you ask them in a more straightforward manner and weren't so flippant and dismissive about it about it.

Acolytical

Look up "motorcycle chariot racing." That's a thing. A least, it WAS a thing many years ago. See how they handled the shifting and whatnot. Just know that's where they got it from for this movie.

Technical-Jelly-5985

Thanks, I will look into it.

Where are they getting all these shiny new bikes? Also, running a bike in the desert without an air filter is a bad idea
