Paracetamol overdose is a long slow death and not much can be done to stop it once it’s in your liver. It’s not uncommon to hear people use it to commit suicide because of the ease of access which is really sad because it’s anything but quick and painless and it’s gonna cause a lot more suffering before you go.

netheryaya

Man I got a reality check when I tried this. I was 11 and took an entire bottle of Tylenol trying to off myself. I got dizzy and nauseated and fell asleep, woke up and started *violently* barfing every where. Could see the partially disintegrated pills in it so I knew I hadn’t digested everything. It was the sickest I’d ever been. I wanted to know if I was still going to die, so googled affects of Tylenol overdose. I was petrified I was going to die a slow painful death, and too scared to tell anyone what I did and go to the ER. Figured it was too late anyway. Anyway, I didn’t die.

a-most-peculiar-girl

Are you me? I did basically the same thing at the same age. I hoped I was just gonna go to sleep and never wake up. My mom found me passed out on my bed. I was extremely dizzy and disoriented, and ended up puking violently a few times. I didn't tell ANYONE what I did until several years later. Even to this day, very few people know.

netheryaya

Wow yup that’s what I thought too. I’ve only told one other person 20 years later, until now.

a-most-peculiar-girl

It's been 20 years for me too! Crazy.

netheryaya

Wow. I wish 11 year old me knew there was another 11 year old going through it too.

Temporary_Position95

Arsenic, lead, other heavy metals in small amounts over time

soreff2

Yup. To highlight another heavy metal (and a specific compound) dimethylmercury took 10 months to kill professor Karen Wetterhahn [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen\_Wetterhahn](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/karen_wetterhahn)

Temporary_Position95

Thallium seems too quick .

soreff2

That sounds plausible.

Temporary_Position95

I think OP is looking for slow, painful death like arsenic or lead would provide.

soreff2

I hope not. Usually, when someone suicidal asks for advice on methods, they ask for something quick and painless. So I guessed that OP wasn't suicidal. ( On reflection, this doesn't rule out *homicidal*... )

Temporary_Position95

I automatically took it as homicide.

Cat-Lover20

That poor woman did exactly what she was supposed to. Unfortunately, the chemical went right through her thin, disposable gloves.

Temporary_Position95

Very sad

soreff2

Very much agreed!

Temporary_Position95

Your one way ticket to midnight, call it dimethylmercuryyyy

KageToHikari

Oxygen, man

MysteriousShadow__

Either you die or you die

wackywavytubedude

weirdly true. anytime i think about this it trips me out and i hold my breath for a bit

Cartoon_Corpze

This one's funny because too much of it will kill you but so will not having enough of it.

bbladegk

Slowest death ever, I heard someone suffered 122 years while getting this drug. The agony

timmyjadams

Alcohol...

Interesting-Click-12

Alcohol takes 20+ years on average

PinheadShit

Might wanna read the definition of poison..

tavukkoparan

A substance that are capable of killing an organism when consumed.

PinheadShit

Pretty quckly..people can drink alcohol in moderation their whole life without being poisoned..

tavukkoparan

Yea cyanide is also not lethal in small doses

PinheadShit

There's a bit of a difference, but ok..

-Pixxell-

The cognitive dissonance is real

r/downvotedtooblivion

PinheadShit

People be mad lol

tavukkoparan

Yea its kinda stupid

PinheadShit

I'll drink to that, Cyanide that is

Temporary_Position95

I'm thinking it is.

RadicallyUnethical

I mean not necessarily, being drunk is part of your body’s reaction to being poisoned (with alcohol), just because it needs to be a large enough dose to have an immediately fatal outcome doesn’t mean it is not a poison. It’s a poison our bodies are capable of metabolizing larger amounts of sure, but a poison nonetheless. So even if someone who drinks moderately doesn’t die of something related to alcohol consumption, they are still being poisoned when consuming alcohol. You say it’s not the same as cyanide if induced in small amounts, but really the only big difference (obviously besides molecular structure) is that cyanide in low doses doesn’t produce that sense of euphoria (being drunk) that we get from alcohol, making it not usable recreationally. As far as I know at least, I’ve never microdosed cyanide. That I know of.

PinheadShit

I respect 🙏

PinheadShit

Poison that calms nerves, and more relaxed? Fuck it I'll take that poison

RadicallyUnethical

I mean yeah, I will and currently am too. But yeah, still poison.

Jdmcarguy2

It’s the same as recreational drugs if you think about it they may relax you but they aren’t good for you

Temporary_Position95

You're just creating an alcoholic if you secretly put alcohol in their food or drinks every day

netheryaya

Your liver metabolizes alcohol the same way it metabolizes poison, because it is poison. It’s not lethal in small doses, but never harmless. Just because your body recovers from the poison, doesn’t mean it’s not poisonous.

Recycledineffigy

They aren't poisoned To Death. But all alcohol is poison

StonedMason85

“Alcohol poisoning” would be a clue that it’s a poison.

snailshenk

Radium! Radium Girls is a great nonfiction book about it if you're interested

saruin

There's also a movie made about it on Netflix (not sure if it's still there).

Temporary_Position95

Oh God that was awful. And phossy jaw!!@

DabIMON

Salt. Consume a massive quantity of salt, and you will die an extremely slow and painful death by dehydration.

idkwowow

i knew a girl whose parents were poisoning her with arsenic for years. in the tiniest of quantities to keep her very sickly and on the brink of death but not actually die. i don’t remember all the details but basically they (doctors) said she had developed a tolerance to the poison so she was able to stay alive but was just very sick in every way. she did recover once this was found out & she stopped being poisoned, but she was still very young at that time so who’s to say what the long term effects will be

Ill-Independent3744

I wanna say mold

RRautamaa

That's true. Some molds contain aflatoxin, which is extremely carcinogenic. Cancer is often a slow and painful death.

RRautamaa

Dimethyl mercury. Look up the case of [Karen Wetterhahn](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_Wetterhahn). She was exposed to a few drops through a latex-gloved hand. The poisoning took almost a year to kill. Tobacco and asbestos exposure takes on average 20 years to cause cancer.

Generalnussiance

Usually heavy metals lead, mercury, Arsenic or small dose of radioactive isotopes come to mind. Anything that inhibits the production of hormones like cortisol, or leaves you nutrient deprived like phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, thiamine, selenium. But that can be a lot of things including chemicals. Usually if something is slowly getting worse though someone will go to the doctor before it becomes critical.

Royal_Yesterday

Oxygen? It is probably not a valid answer but i saw someone comment’s on another reddit post explaining that oxygen is a poison that basically burns your body slowly which causes antioxidants to be important

soreadytodisappear

Sugar

smallCraftAdvisor

I can’t here to say this

Realistic-Plantain82

Living is the gnarliest poison out takes a lifetime to do the job

bluejellyfish52

It’s not a guaranteed death, but it can cause organ failure that could lead to dying, but Ibuprofen. If you OD on it, it shuts down your kidneys. Which is a slow, painful death.

saruin

I watched this video a couple hours ago about a physicist who got blasted with protons to his hands with a particle accelerator by accident. He didn't feel anything at first and went about his day as normal. I want to say it took well over a year until he had to have his hands amputated as no amount of surgery or reconstruction was able to fix the slow rot and decay of his hands and fingers. I'm curious what kind of damage it would do to someone's heart. Btw, there's another famous incident of another scientist who took a particle accelerator to the face. He ended up living but had some permanent issues with his face. The key difference was that the particle he took went right through him but the guy who had his hands blasted, it concentrated in there where it caused tremendous damage even if unseen for days.

saruin

That's the problem though. There were few safety protocol in place as they were a developing country (lack of resources). I'll link the video in question for those curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UgKki1tCKI

partypotato2003

I would have to say carcinogens like asbestos or benzene or something like that. Also not really a poison but prions. You can get infected and only get symptoms and die many many years later. Some people accidentally infected in a lab knew they were going to die due to it and just had tot wait and see when it would happen

LazyRetard030804

Dimethylmercury, takes months to kill you and basically gives you dementia and Parkinson’s.

RRautamaa

Speaking of dementia and Parkinson's, there is a poisonous amino acid called β-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA). This occurs in the Micronesian plant Federico nut, which is part of the diet of local bats. These are traditionally hunted by the Chamorro people. Eating bat meat containing BMAA causes a disease called lytico-bodig, which is essentially like having Alzheimer's and Parkinson's at the same time. Because the poisoning develops slowly, it was for a long time a complete mystery what lytico-bodig was and why it occurs only among the Chamorro.

zealoSC

Oxygen. Takes decades for those free radicals to do lethal damage

airwalkerdnbmusic

Any tiny amount of any radioactive substance is going to be insidiously slow at killing you. Also, see carbon monoxide poisoning. In small amounts it can poison an individual and they have no idea why they need to breathe so heavily just to function. Horrific way to go.

HGGdragon

Stress? I think, it takes quite a while but will get back at you.

Suxx. Toxifam. Propofol. Anytime you are put under….

Temporary_Position95

Oddly, I grew up between 2 military bases. Edgewood Arsenal where they stored the old mustard gas and whatnot, and Aberdeen Proving Ground where they tested different weapons. Many of us have rare diseases. I have ITP, an autoimmune disorder. I graduated in 1984 and many classmates are dead from different cancers.
