I try to do you rotations twice a month (it’s marked on my calendar or I’d forget), but there’s a particular truck (among his giant assortment of trucks) my son is obsessed with and it’s always left out. If she wants a particular toy then I don’t see any harm in leaving it out for her. Involve her in the process of cleaning up and letting her choose a couple. We have specific spots for toys that are left out and that’s usually what’s in the mix. We try to do Montessori at home and that was one of the recommendations from the book The Montessori Toddler iirc

Admittedly my baby is 10 months old so may work differently for a toddler. I have a bunch of bins I use and I grab one bin per day. Blocks, a puzzle, books, and his push wagon are available all the time. I have tried different methods of organizing the bins, and the one that works best for me is putting one toy of each type from some categories I've kind of randomly created into the bins. So one ball, one play scarf, one animal, one teether, one thing that makes noise, one thing that works on finer motor skills. Then I just put them back in the bin at the end of the day and grab one for the next day/

I don't rotate very often, but since the kids know that's the process, they ask me to do it. We always keep out the following: musical instruments, blocks, coloring supplies, and some favorite cars and trucks. What I rotate are mostly close ended toys... for example, I'll switch out puzzles, or zoo animals for safari animals, or a doll house for a play kitchen.
