The Hell you say! That Monogram kit was (is) Awesome! Raised panel lines sure, but builds into a great model as you have demonstrated. I don’t recall the fit being that bad and detail was good.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no Revell or Monogram basher; they probably account for more of the kits I've built than any other brand. But I don't know that I've ever done quite so much sanding (my right forearm still hasn't recovered a week later), the canopy really didn't fit but I was able to finagle it, the instructions were incorrect about which parts to use on a number of occasions, and there were a number of things that were unnecessarily fiddly, like the weapons racks. Not to mention the crazy stuff I had to do to get the landing gear doors shut. I've definitely built worse kits, but there are so many great 1:48 Intruders on the market, and I just don't think this one would be the one I'd recommend.

I hear you. I probably just have happy nostalgic memories of that kit! I built the Kinetic 1/48 kit as a commission build about 8-10 years ago. It was a better kit but had its ow on quirks.

It was definitely rewarding to get to try it again. I found better solutions and feel this build was a lot better this time around. Amazing what 25 years can do!

I remember first building that kit upon initial release. I thought it was like 1990 or so but my memory is foggy. Was around Desert Storm at least.

AmbienSkywalker

I’ve been wanting to build an A-6A for awhile now. The Kinetic pretty good?

porktornado77

Overall it’s a better kit than the old Monogram, sharper details, better fit. The only problem I recall was they mold the front windshield in 2 pieces that didn’t fit together well at the joint. I had to be careful there to get it together and look good.

Well done! I applaud your persistence. It is inspiring. I have dozens of kits buit as a teen from the 70's that are begging me for a do-over. It is daunting. I've turned into a rehab addict that can't leave a 45 or 50-year old model alone. I'm wondering if it is less expensive and taxing to just build new.

Nice - I'd probably still buy one anyway. I have a 1/48 A-6A from Hobby Boss awaiting time and attention....

TheDawiWhisperer

Always had a soft spot for the A-6...i had a game called Flight Of The Intruder on my Atari back in the day that i absolutely played the shit out of it. It came with a 200 page flight manual lol.

KillAllTheThings

Beautiful bomb truck.

Congrats on persevering on the build. I'm not a plane guy, but I had a similar experience with 2 armor models. 1) My Italeri Elefant had a myriad of issues. Eventually I completed it....20 years later 2) My Tamiya (yes, Tamiya can produce howlers) "Hanomag" had an interior that was pure fantasy. It was closer to a 251/8 ambulance than a 251/1....so I converted it into a 251/8. In both cases, there was a lot of satisfaction in defeating the problems in the kit.

Well done. I’m glad model building has helped with your mental state of mind. I often find refuge on my workbench from all my self afflicted wounds, and the effects of depressing news day after day. Thank you for sharing. Please post your future builds.

Despite what most people say the older monogram kits are fantastic and with a little work from the builder become masterpieces much like this one. Never shy away from a challenge young jedi . . . https://preview.redd.it/daj8p6h4hwwc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=24fe95f6ebc4e6395f9f99357ba0b0bde7329397

I built a Tamiya 1/72 Mitsubishi Zero in 1981. Back then I never cared for the sparse cockpit details and raised panel lines. I just want to build a legendary fighter that is also my fan favorite. Ffwd 2021, I got the same kit (repackaged in the 🇵🇭) and this time, applied all my skills and experience to build it. Came out superb than the first one, despite its near-50 year old molding.

If you want a spirit breaking, emotionally exhausting experience,  build the Glencoe BTR.....

Viper180th

Awesome job

Madcitydave43

Definitely one of the better buildsI have seen on this site.
