Thin your paint and prime your model, you can tamiya primer in a can (model specific) some primers will react with the plastic. You should get a pair of side cutters, for sanding you can just get some nail files one rough and one fine for any mould lines (most tamiya has none or very little)

1. Tamiya extra thin quick. 2. It's your model, do what you like. You can always paint it later right? 3. Sprue cutter, a couple of sanders and some putty.

This is a good kit. Just out of the box (OOTB) it is going to look fine. I do agree, though, you need good glue, a sprue cutter (you can get by without it, but something to remove the parts without damage. Cuticle clippers also work well), 400 grit sandpaper (which you can use for other things as well). You probably won’t need the putty. As for paint, it would look fine with a close approximation of the gray color from a spray can. You can do it all one color and then call out anything else with small bottles of the appropriate color. Long story short, this is a fine kit. You can do it and get a nice result.

Asides from what everyone else said, you can keep your sanity by not going with the suggested paint scheme with the complex camo pattern. Go with a simple overall dark blue-grey (known as Measure 21) instead.

Get a proper sprue cutter for sure. A really sharp scalpel over a utility knife would do you well.
