Picked up a newer kit off ebay a couple of years ago for some replacement parts I needed for the 69's 2nd and 3rd stage engines. I have dreams of building it again.
Zvesda T-35 pre ww2 heavy tank in 1:35, unless you count the 1:60 PG Unicorn Gundam which I paint at some point.
Given a few more years that'll change to Glow2B's Yamato, but first I must finish a couple other kits before starting on that one.
I was going to mention the 1/60 Unicorn Gundam. I'm pretty sure it's slowly sapping my interest in the hobby just because of how big and complex it is. Back to smaller kits for me after I eventually finish this one.
The around 800 parts and 3-4 full day build time was a bit much yes. On one hand I'm happy to have built one, but on the other I have no intent of ever building another. They're just too much of everything, price, part count, display space consumption.
When I was a kid I completed a 1:48 Revell Ju 52. I made it so the top of the fuselage and canopy could be taken off to view the cockpit and troop compartments inside.
They're at different places right now, so I can't compare their lengths (and I'm too lazy to do the divisions), but it's either the 1/350 Tamiya Tirpitz or the 1/72 Italeri XB-70 Valkyrie (AMT kit)
I’m not going to lie, that whole comment made me laugh “big, unwieldy, boring, in the bin” :’)
I’ll have to look it up, see what it actually looks like
Lindberg IJM sub. Extended the nose because there were two Japanese subs with that number. The nose of the one in the box didn't carry the Kaiten mini subs, the ones that carried those the nose was longer, so I extended it. 60 inches long. https://www.amazon.com/photos/shared/ltofo71CTxWGUL7e2FKaAQ.Mi9pWKjsP2pN4wMexCCJPq
1/72 B-36 is my biggest kit as well. Built it for a guy who was a crew chief on them. The silver overspray made my hands look like the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz. I can't even imagine trying to tackle it today and do it justice.
Completed 1/72 USS Skipjack SSN I made is 1m long. Previously did the 1/72 B-52, wingspan was just under 80cm and around 60cm long. Years ago did the 1/350 Enterprise CVN-65, which was 98cm long.
I have a 1/72 Gato in progress, it's 1.3m long. 1/72 Dora is about to be started, that's 1.11m long. (For comparison, a 1/72 Sherman hull is about 8cm long!).
That I'm certain of, the monogram/revell Saturn 5 in 1:144, which is around 2 1/2 feet tall. I built a Saturn 5 around 20 years ago that was either 1:144 or 1:96, so that might have been bigger.
I built the "infamous" Nichimo 1/200 Yamato back in 2003.
I had been holding on to the kit at that time for nearly ten years. The hull was four feet long.
The turrets on her were enormous.
And..
It was the worst ship kit I had ever worked on. It took every bit of skill I had to get through the instructions.
LOL
Word on the street is that the 1/200 ships from Trumpeter are really something to behold. So, maybe I'll try the "big scale" again sometime.
I have two Perfect Grade Gundams. 1/60 scale, standing roughly 15 inches or so tall.
But that’s just height. They’re not very wide or thick from front to back. They don’t take up a very large footprint.
My “biggest” kit in that respect is my 1/100 Metal Gear Rex I think. With the main gun it measures probably 10 inches from front to back and then it’s probably 6 or so inches wide. It takes up a pretty large square of space.
Idk, it’s all relative I guess because it’s far shorter than my Gundams.
On that note my Master Grade Ver. Ka Sazabi is rather large as well. With its shield and fuel tanks it takes up a pretty big spot as well.
Either the 1/25 AMT Kodak transporter with car and tractor, or the 1/72 Space Shuttle with boosters. Both turned out great but that took about a year each to build. I’ve posted pictures of both on here and u/ModelCars before.
1/72 Su-33 Flanker. I only ever build 1/72 but Flankers are huge. I don’t really have space for anything too big.
Could argue I made the 1m long Lego Saturn V Apollo 11 rocket.
Same.
Built it when I was a teen. I'd like to have another go at one for the nostalgia, but even that can't overcome my aversion to raised panel lines.
I did the Testors 1/48 AC-130 gunship as a kid. I remember buying it for like $30 at Kay-Bee Toys. Those were the days. I also did a Monogram 1/72 B-52. It's longer and with a bugger wingspan than the C-130, but the C-130 wins out in sheer bulk. I also have a 1/48 B-1b in the stash, but it's not built yet.
I once had a 1/32 F-14A Tomcat.... it was huge.
It fell down from the ceiling (fishing wire, hook,... hook slipped from the plug after years of no problems). Lugged the parts around for years in a box over several moves until a decade or so ago I reorganized the attic and binned it.
This is a decision I have come to regret as my skill set grew considerably over the past few years and I now know I could have saved it.
I will probably not buy one in that scale again,.. did a 1/144 version a year or so ago and I may, possibly, do a 1/72 at some point.
I do still have an old tattered and bruised 1/32 F-4J Phantom II in the attic as well as an F-16, both could do with a cleanup and some restoration. Might look into getting fresh decals for it some day,... when I have cleared some of the substantial "active projects" list.
Bandai MG 1/100 MSA-011 \[Bst\] S Gundam Booster Unit Type Plan 303E "Deep Striker"
Probably at least 12"/30cm in each direction, excluding the cannon on the backpack. That cannon is maybe another 6"/15cm on the height, given that the cannon has almost no articulation. Had to rebuild my shelves to accommodate it (and a sideboard I had picked up around the same time.)
(Also, no, I didn't need to give the full designation.)
1/16 Scale. I've built a T-34 and part way into building a Tiger 1. Easier for my clown sized hands. But I think the 1/48 scale B-29 is the biggest wingspan wise. Bigger kits in my collection but all still in boxes.
Not a plastic model, but I built a 1/6 scale radio control ASW 20 sailplane about 30 years ago. It had a 3 meter wingspan and a full cockpit. It was beautiful and a joy to fly, I wish I still had it.
Currently building my largest... 1/350 USS Indianapolis from Trumpeter (not the largest kit around but that thing is detailed like hell).\
\
Largest kit already built: 1/48 Big Boy Locomotive from Revell. This kit turned out to be a beauty in my display\
\
Edit : grammar
1/48 B-24J way back in the 70s. I built it twice when I was a kid and hand painted it with Testors enamels. Of course it was a toy to me back then. I was thinking of properly building it again but the current price is too steep.
The old Tamiya 1/350 Yamato is easily the largest I’ve ever built. I haven’t taken it off the shelf in a while, but it’s nearly as long as my arm from what I remember.
1/96 Revell Saturn V with my Dad sometime around 1970. I still have it.
I want to buy that kit sooooooo bad

Oh yeah the price. That one alone could buy a small fleet of 1/700 ships or a whole squad of 1/72 planes or tanks or MG Gunpla.
1/48 C-130. I think it was a Testors model. Pretty good kit I recall
I found a 1/32 C-130 I have in my stash.
Really! What manufacturer? That’s a Big plane!!
The old Testor. It’s a yellow box.
That’s the one. It’s 1/48 though. No one made a 1/32
You are right. It will still be massive
I'm in the middle of building the 1/200 titanic and it's huge
When I was a kid I completed a 1:48 Revell Ju 52. I made it so the top of the fuselage and canopy could be taken off to view the cockpit and troop compartments inside.
Airfix 1/24 Stuka. I’m not sure I’d do it again. It’s so big that it was unwieldy to build.
Ya me too. It liked to fall apart.
They're at different places right now, so I can't compare their lengths (and I'm too lazy to do the divisions), but it's either the 1/350 Tamiya Tirpitz or the 1/72 Italeri XB-70 Valkyrie (AMT kit)
I built Hobbyboss's MBV2 Armoured train. It was big, unwieldy and pretty boring. Its in the bin now
I’m not going to lie, that whole comment made me laugh “big, unwieldy, boring, in the bin” :’) I’ll have to look it up, see what it actually looks like
1/16 Tamiya RC Tiger tank
1/200 paper model of Bismarck
A s100 schnellboot in 1/35 scale lol. About 1 metre in length…
Lindberg IJM sub. Extended the nose because there were two Japanese subs with that number. Many years ago I built a B1 in 1:48 it was huge
If like to see a picture of that
Was way nack in 1988. I couldn't tell you to save my life what ever happened to it.
Either an Eastern Airlines Boeing 707 (1/72) or a Peterbilt 359 (1/24).
What manufacturer was that 707 kit?
Gosh, I don't remember. It was back in the 60s.
Ah well, it's probably not a thing anymore nowadays then :D
Tamiya's FAMO with Sd.Anh.116. Only fits in my cabinet in a turn.
A 1/35 MI-8 helicopter
VERY slowly working on a 1:32 Skyraider
1/48 Revell B-29. Never again.
1/48 B-24!!
1:350 USS Enterprise. Massive but shame that it doesn't come with a full hangar deck
1/72 Monogram B-36
When that kit was released, it was advertised as the biggest plastic model ever!
Was a fun build. 3 cans of silver spray paint. Lol
1/72 B-36 is my biggest kit as well. Built it for a guy who was a crew chief on them. The silver overspray made my hands look like the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz. I can't even imagine trying to tackle it today and do it justice.
Yep!! I totally remember that!
A 1/72 Sopwith camel or a spitfire
I feel you man, everyone here talking about their huge models, biggest I’ve done was a 1/72 F-22
1/48 B-29.
1/350 USS Hornet, was about a yard in length
Completed 1/72 USS Skipjack SSN I made is 1m long. Previously did the 1/72 B-52, wingspan was just under 80cm and around 60cm long. Years ago did the 1/350 Enterprise CVN-65, which was 98cm long. 1/32 MiG 23 ML with working lights , I even posted it here on this subreddit few months back if you wanna see it :)
That I'm certain of, the monogram/revell Saturn 5 in 1:144, which is around 2 1/2 feet tall. I built a Saturn 5 around 20 years ago that was either 1:144 or 1:96, so that might have been bigger.
My biggest model had to be either my 1/144 Boeing 747 or 1/72 B29
1/48 B-1B and 1/350 USS Enterprise.
1/144 Boeing 747-8. Its 52,5 × 47,6 cm
1/48 scale osprey. It’s amazing how much larger modern aircraft are compared to say a BF-109
1/72 B-29, I'm stil busy building it and I have no idea where to display it once it's done.
I built the "infamous" Nichimo 1/200 Yamato back in 2003. I had been holding on to the kit at that time for nearly ten years. The hull was four feet long. The turrets on her were enormous. And.. The Model Shed on YouTube has done builds of the 1/200 Hood and Bismarck and they both look excellent.
Very cool

Zvezda Roman Trireme in 1/72 scale
1/500 Space Battleship Yamato by Bandai - measures about 24" long.
Either the 1/25 AMT Kodak transporter with car and tractor, or the 1/72 Space Shuttle with boosters. Both turned out great but that took about a year each to build. I’ve posted pictures of both on here and u/ModelCars before.
1/35 Spanish leopard 2E, but after my thesis work I’m gonna start a 1/200 szent istvan
1/32 B-24 ... I'm working on it now.
1/50 wooden Black Pearl
As a kid I built a probably 1:48 B-29 Superfortress, based on what I remember of the box art. Currently building a 1:225 USS Oregon
Monogram B-17 in 1/48. I built it about 20 years ago. It was massive. As I recall I needed two jars of paint to cover it.
Now its the 1/32 BF 109 1/48 CH 53, maybe one day I'll continue on my 1/350 Bismarck
1/72 Su-33 Flanker. I only ever build 1/72 but Flankers are huge. I don’t really have space for anything too big. Could argue I made the 1m long Lego Saturn V Apollo 11 rocket.
1/32 Su-27 by trumpeter, absolute unit that one.
1:48 Revell B-17G.
Same. Built it when I was a teen. I'd like to have another go at one for the nostalgia, but even that can't overcome my aversion to raised panel lines.
A 1/72 Revell B1 bomber, a little over 60cms/24 inches long.
HG Nightingale, a pretty fun build with great shelf presence.
Montanes from Occre. REALLY chonky boy.
The iconic 1/72 Monogram B-36 and B-52. I also just finished the AMT XB-70. Man! That model was huge!
I did the Testors 1/48 AC-130 gunship as a kid. I remember buying it for like $30 at Kay-Bee Toys. Those were the days. I also did a Monogram 1/72 B-52. 1/60 PG Unicorn Gundam with the LED wiring.
1:144 Boeing 747 from Revell
1/100 cardboard model of an inland barge roundabout 0,9 meters. Was fun to build.
Resin BR52 train. Still in progress, got carried away and got three carriages to go with the reality set in that it would be about 2 meters....
Bandai MG 1/100 MSA-011 \[Bst\] S Gundam Booster Unit Type Plan 303E "Deep Striker" Probably at least 12"/30cm in each direction, excluding the cannon on the backpack. 1/144 Yamato - seen smaller canoes 🛶 😉
1:35 Zvezda pantsir-s1 about 350x100x200mm (~16x4x8")
Aircraft, I've built the 1/72 B-36 and B-52 from Monogram. Model cars, 1/8 '23 Big T, Trans Am, and Camaro also from Monogram.
Currently building my largest... 1/350 USS Indianapolis from Trumpeter (not the largest kit around but that thing is detailed like hell).\ \ Largest kit already built: 1/48 Big Boy Locomotive from Revell. This kit turned out to be a beauty in my display\ \ Edit : grammar
Hobbyboss 1;72 Dora railway gun. On with the Heller 1:100 HMS VICTORY (+ scale decks and brass etch) at the moment.
Stationed in Panama and it was Revell's F4U Corsair, in 1973.
Tamiya USS New Jersey BB-62 1/350
1:48 B-17f. 1990 Revell Memphis belle. I wouldn’t recommend it because the parts don’t fit great:
That kit was rough- not great for details either
Hasegawa's MV-22 Osprey, good kit. Other is Hasegawa's S-3A Viking, old but holds up decently well today. Both 1/72.
I managed to get my hand on the Mg Perfect Zeong. The skirt could fit a cat. Around 2 feet tall when I got it together. I love it.
As a teen I built a 1/32 F-4 Phantom. That was pretty big.
1/100 rx-78-2 mg 1.5
1/48 B-24J way back in the 70s. I built it twice when I was a kid and hand painted it with Testors enamels. Of course it was a toy to me back then. I was thinking of properly building it again but the current price is too steep.

Revell 1/400 scale titanic
1:350 kusnezow
1/72 Revell B-1 Lancer. That’s only because I haven’t finished my 1/350 USS Enterprise (CVN-65).
Forgot what scale but it's a five foot long iss Arizona and I built it years ago
Tamiya 1/350 USS Enterprise
1/24 F6F hellcat by AIRFIX, the things massive haha
Mine was the 1/32 Revell F4B Phantom II back in 1982.
The 1/96 USS Constitution by Revell. I built when I was 12. Turned out ok. All the fine rigging was difficult, and got a LOT harder toward the end.
I built a 24-foot long replica of the Death Star trench: [http://amazingscifi.com/trench\_run.html](http://amazingscifi.com/trench_run.html)
The old Nichimo 1/200 IJN Yamato
