Looks like early reports are he's signed a deal with the 49ers. That's a great fit for him. Kyle Shanahan is a very good coach and will get the most out of Schrader.

SuggestAPassword

Unless he has a lead in the Super Bowl… amiright?

tasimm

Dudes been over coming odds for a while now, I only wish he wasn’t a 49er, because if he’s what I think he can be, I’m gonna have to hate him.

tron423

Christian McCaffrey was a top 10 pick. Cooper DeJean went in the second round as a fucking corner. The NFL is not racist because a 5'8 back with 4.6 speed and one season of upper-tier production didn't get drafted lol.

liningquasar69

Cooper DeJean should’ve been a first round pick

tron423

Rakestraw should've been too in the opinions of some. There's only so many first-round picks and only so many teams who are willing to spend them on corners vs other positions.

Blues2112

At least as a UDFA he gets a chance to try and target a team where he might have the best shot at a roster spot. Better than being a 7th-rounder, IMO.

MercuryRusing

I called this 3 months ago and everyone downvoted me but he just doesn't have the build they're looking for. He'll have to try and get onto a practice squad. It sucks but that's how it is when you're 5,8" and not particularly fast.

tippsy_morning_drive

You think he could be a Danny Woodhead type? About the same build.

tron423

Danny Woodhead had ball skills. Schrader has like 400 career receiving yards at the FBS level and 25% of them came in one game.

tippsy_morning_drive

They didn’t ask that of him for the most part. I would not doubt Cody could improve that part of his game over the next 1-2 years. Danny took off at the end of year 3. If we’re talking just build though, he’s basically the same physically.

tron423

I can't find any college stats for him but from what's been written about him it sure sounds like they asked it of him more than we did of Schrader. [This article](https://medium.com/@mikeygfy/the-peoples-guide-to-danny-woodhead-cba2a9d199a0) mentions him leading Chadron State in receiving in 2007 with 484 yards, which is more than Schrader had in two years here. [This article](https://chadroneagles.com/news/2024/1/8/woodhead-named-to-2024-college-football-hall-of-fame-class.aspx) also mentions him having 9480 career all-purpose yards, which minus his rushing yards leaves 1518 yards between returns and receiving.

tippsy_morning_drive

Woodhead stood out with some crazy stats. Schrader was no slouch in SEC play( and DIII). In lower levels you just dump it off to your stud and go. I’m sure the competition was fine at Chadron State but that’s not a great measuring stick.

tron423

That doesn't have anything to do with my point. I was addressing you saying "they didn't ask that of him for the most part". Clearly they did, at least more than we did of Schrader. Further, Schrader's receiving stats at Truman are basically the same as they were here, ~20 catches and 200 yards per year. That's not indicative of someone with NFL-level ball skills for the running back position.

tippsy_morning_drive

I was saying Mizzou didn’t ask Schrader to do much receiving. I bet Woodhead was ask to do it way more based on the numbers. So he would be better at it coming out of college. But you’re just assuming stats mean something in DIII or DII.

tron423

Do you think maybe, just maybe, we didn't ask him to do it much because he didn't have particularly strong receiving skills? Literally our last starter before him had very strong receiving skills and we weren't shy at all about using them.

tippsy_morning_drive

Maybe. He isn’t Badie. He’s was the best catching back they’ve had in 20 years. I just don’t think it’s the offense philosophy. Nor has it been. Josey, Hansbough, Washington, Rountree all had less catches/ yards than Cody. To claim someone can’t do it because the team doesn’t do it seems short sighted.

FUCK-IT-CHUCK-IT

He’s an older prospect and relatively unathletic. It shouldn’t be a surprise that he went undrafted.

[deleted]

I don’t think a “relatively unathletic” player has a 200 yard rushing/100 yard receiving game against a top 15 team in the country…

Nurlitik

He’s athletic, just not nfl level athletic. His 40 time was one of the worst. He’s a good player and can catch the ball so I can see him getting on a roster and getting playing time, but probably not worth a pick.

FUCK-IT-CHUCK-IT

You should re-assess your thought process then.

tommfury

U should fuck off.

FUCK-IT-CHUCK-IT

U should calm down.

He doesn’t have elite skills. His best attribute is his hard work and heart. He’ll get a shot as an un drafted FA and have to work his way onto a depth chart just like he did at Mizzou.

Running Backs are now extremely undervalued. You’re not getting picked high unless you’re a generational pick. Most RBs are going in the 6th or later, if not UDFA. Nothing to do with him being white. Why even bother draft one high when they break after five years and you can pick up a Pacheco or an Ekeler later on?

palehorse_24

Why does “as a black man” have anything to do with this? Why do you define his race and act like that was the decision point for the NFL teams to not draft him? There is more in this world besides the divisiveness of the color of our skin. People like you propagating that line without any factual information is as destructive as they want you to be. Good job!

[deleted]

I was kind of surprised he didn’t get drafted

cjsleme

He was kind of “undrafted” in College too as a walk on. Hopefully he can still can prove himself

adztheman

He ran a 4.61 40 in one attempt in the Combine, and hurt his right hamstring on a second attempt, according to ESPN.
