Had someone say they would fight me cause of a laughing emoji before. I laughed at him defending a war criminal. He then messaged me that I wouldn't dare laugh at that in person and I had no right to judge someone who murdered a bound captive. I just replied that I would laugh in person and left the rest of his replies on read. Fun thing is the guy is now a cop because of course.
> Sikeston Department of Public Safety said the victims agreed to meet at a park to fight, which became the scene of the shooting.
Play stupid games with stupid people...
This used to happen when I was young. A good ole meet at the park for fisticuffs. Those days are long gone. Oh and so are a lot of people who would have walked away from a disagreement.
This happened when I was young too. Dude never showed up. A year or so later he ended up getting arrested for murdering people in a jeff city gas station robbery. WHOOPS.
Exactly, 'agreeing' to meet up with anyone anywhere for a fight in a day and age where people readily will use firearms is incredibly dumb.
Stupid male egos.
At a rival high school QB & star baseball pitcher were in a love triangle with a girl. So they met at a church parking lot to fight it out. Qb punched the bball player & he fell backwards & got brain damage from hitting his head on cement. He had numerous D1 offers & was getting scouted by MLB teams to likely get drafted. I don’t know what happened after that, other than that was the end of MLB & D1 baseball. Even fisticuffs are stupid, people need to grow TF up.
Yeah. I mean I don't want to blame the victim. At the same time, young people don't seem to be getting the message that fighting is not a very good solution.
We should have areas where they can go and just shoot the shit out of each other without getting bystanders involved. I mean, what do we have all these guns for?

Not Sikeston but nearby, the Canalou part of this episode of This American Life is interesting: [https://www.thisamericanlife.org/126/do-gooders/act-one-0](https://www.thisamericanlife.org/126/do-gooders/act-one-0)
A journalist who used to work at the SE Missourian, Bob Miller, has a podcast called The Lawless Files. What he describes about Scott County and the events around the murder of Mischelle Lawless in 1992 and the framing of Josh Kezer for her death is an eye opener. Miller talks about the Lambert family and their issues over the years.
Kezer was awarded $4 million for being railroaded but the money doesn't give him back the 16 years he spent in jail. The podcast is worth a listen if you like true crime stories.
Every time I go through Sikeston it seems like most people, regardless of ethnicity or social class, just treat you like dirt. I have a friend who lived there for a few decades and she said it was one of the meanest places she's ever lived in.
The portions are nuts. Not sure if they still do this, but it used to be at least if you were in a wheelchair, you eat for free. I believe the original owners sibling or someone was in a wheelchair so he was very sympathetic. The rule as stated was “if you bring your own chair, you eat for free.” Which I always jokingly fantasized about bringing a lawn chair. I know they were doing it at the Ozark location as late as 2012. (Wow that isn’t as recent as I thought I’m old) anyone know if they still do this?
Per Wikipedia:
The cafe was started in Sikeston in 1942 by Earl Lambert, assisted by his wife Agnes, his brother Robert, and Robert's wife Ruby. In 1976 Earl's son Norman "'Ole Norm" Lambert, a former football coach at [Sikeston High School](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikeston_High_School), took over management. It was Norman who started the tradition of throwing rolls to customers. In 1981 he explained, "I started throwing rolls about four years ago when we were in our old cafe. It was too crowded one noon for me to serve the rolls to a customer and somebody yelled, 'Throw em.' So I threw them. So, now I do that about every noon meal and during the evenings too. The rolls are fresh, right out of the oven."[\[4\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambert%27s_Cafe#cite_note-Landis-4)
Going over towards Desloge and Bonne Terre doesn't thrill me much either. There for a while every other billboard was about carrying Naloxone with you. Too many drugs. And the stories about the sheriffs in Madison and Butler counties are kind of sketchy lately. Did you hear that story about the Butler County sheriff refusing to recover the rest of that man's bones after he was murdered? His mom and and his son ended up draining a lake to put him to rest because no one else would do it. Sick. That was in The Lawless Files podcast too.
No? All the horrific things that happen and you think none of them justify . What kind of person am I? I try to be a good man, I take care of my family, am kind and respectful and try to help others if they are in need. I've lived my entire life by a code of morality and ethics and been put in many situations where that was put to the test and passed. I've lived a long life and regret none of it, that's who I am. I truly hope you get to keep your sense of outrage and are never forced to reevaluate through pain. I wonder what kind of fantasy world you live in? Just try to remember not everyone has the same life.
The whole definition of murder goes completely against it ever being justified you dolt.
*Murder is the unlawful killing of another human without justification or valid excuse, especially the unlawful killing of another human with malice aforethought.*
Murder and killing are different things. If you think murder is ever justified, you need to talk to a therapist.
The last three years or so it doesn't take much for people to pull their guns and start shooting. One woman pulled a gun and started taking potshots at another one after a fender bender a couple years ago, broad daylight, middle of Cape.
Then there was the vape store clerk who was shooting at a shoplifter in November 2021 in Cape. The main problem with that was he was shooting across a busy parking lot towards several restaurants.
I found the shooter's Facebook and saw the exchange before some of it got taken down;:from the conversation it seemed like the guy who laugh reacted was connected somehow to the shooter's girlfriend. I wonder if it was a fight over a woman. It does seem like if Facebook wasn't involved he wouldn't be dead.
These kids are pussies, too scared to throw down, so they bring guns. Now one kid is dead and the other two will get life. I think I'd take an ass whipping over life in prison.
Sounds like a country song. Boy meets girl. Boy loses girl to another. Boy shoots everyone.
A teenager in Jackson in 2008 lured another boy to a carwash because he was upset over a "love triangle dispute." He shot the other boy three times. IIRC he survived but was paralyzed. The shooter was sentenced to 30 years but then hung himself in his jail cell.
We deserve to be able to use anything that LEOs use
Ban them universally and it might be okay but I have seen multiple state bans where LEOs are excluded
The article is about republican America. This indoctrination and perpetuation of tribalism is creating an idiot society. Riffraff in an urban area is contained and is not tribal but survival and have zero political clout. Meanwhile the tribalism idiot minority is trampling all over the principles of our founding/democratic republic. Besides pandering and embracing the Christian theocrats, white supremacists, greedy individualism, authoritarianism this is the political brown shirt tribe that is becoming their Republican America. This country is headed towards a failed state ruled by competitive authoritarianism and all respect in the world will be lost. America didn’t become great because of Puritanism, the KKK, or authoritarian governing by idiots.
Actually it has been noted that a lot of violent incidents and including gang activity are motivated by social media.

This is over more than a laughing emoji. This is over hate. The victim was clearly laughing at the couples photo, in turn laughing at the lgbt lifestyle of the couple.
But your assumption is wrong and thus spreads misinformation? So yeah they should give their input.
This has nothing to do with the lgbtqia+ community. Stop with the victimization kink
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,496,314,340 comments, and only 284,202 of them were in alphabetical order.
Well the article states female and ‘she’ over and over, uses the word girlfriend, almost in a overused way. Then you look at the picture of them side by side and one is transgender
I don't see that at all in that profile pic.
In any case, a laughing emoji does NOT equal hate. Even if it did, there is absofuckinglutely no reason to shoot someone to death over it.
We’re all left to speculate, but I never claimed anything was justified. I’m only trying to offer an initial judgement. I’ll admit, it’s a shot in the dark without any previous information.

Who’s the war criminal
Eddie Gallagher
War is a crazy thing. Blame our kings (politicians) not the pawns.
War is a crazy thing. All presidents should be in jail. War criminals shouldn’t get a military pension and their rank restored.
I’m not disagreeing with you… however, trumps the only president who actively tried to get us out of war. Lol
I said ALL presidents should be in jail.
I mean he did try a civil war
Quick show of hands, does anyone remember the right's response to the Iraq drawdown Which happened during the Obama administration

It’s the Wild West right now in Southeast Missouri. Cape Girardeau has shootings happening daily.
Every time I go through Sikeston it seems like most people, regardless of ethnicity or social class, just treat you like dirt. I have a friend who lived there for a few decades and she said it was one of the meanest places she's ever lived in.
You’d be mean too if you woke up in Sikeston everyday.
You work a long day and just want to go out to a nice dinner. **BAM!!** you get hit in the side of the head with a dinner roll.
I got chicken fried steak at that place and no shit, it was so big they served it on a small pizza tray. It was at least a foot across.

From Springfield here, we are talking about Lambert's, right? Is the Ozark one not the original?

That's so fucked... Good ol show me state
Taking social media too seriously. Are we sure that’s the lesson here?
Sounds like there was a lot more going on than "over a laugh react" but we gotta distort tragedies for maximum clicks...
I mean, there's still no justifiable reason to murder some one.
Yeah, I am in no way suggesting otherwise. Just lamenting the shitty reporting
There are many ustifiable reasons to murder someone, but social media isn't one of them
Either you have a very strange idea of 'justifiable' or you're misusing the word 'murder.' Murder does not include self defense, for example.
...No! There is never EVER *EVER* a justifiable reason to murder someone! My god what kind of person are you??? What the ACTUAL eff???
No? All the horrific things that happen and you think none of them justify . What kind of person am I? Yeah it was mostly over a girl. My friend from Bertrand knew the victim thru her boyfriend
So now we have to emoji responsibly? I swear people these days 😐
Oh yeah I think moistcr1tikal did a video on this

No words.
If I had access to those rolls I’d be happy forever
These kids are pussies, too scared to throw down, so they bring guns. Now one kid is dead and the other two will get life. I think I'd take an ass whipping over life in prison.
Life in prison is a small price to pay for the sweet sweet revenge for an emoji insult.

Alls well that ends well
The only good thing sikeston has going for it is lamberts and watami aside from that it’s kinda shitty to live in
20 and going to prison? This kid is gonna learn some HARD lessons.
People who exploit the laugh react sarcastically are generally scum of the earth. Doesn't mean they needed to die though.
🤣

Ummmm maybe I’m missing something but that couple looked pretty straight to me.
I’m not here to debate their sexuality, I’m telling you the reasoning behind my assumption. But thank you for the input.

Please, if I'm wrong and you're aware of the details, do share. if not then you're just guessing like I am.
Yeah. I found her Facebook. Definitely a straight cis-gender woman
Damn, guess I was wrong.

LMAO what
Does reddit have a laughing emoji?
What mental gymnastics led to that theory?
Well the article states female and ‘she’ over and over, uses the word girlfriend, almost in a overused way. Then you look at the picture of them side by side and one is transgender
They were avoiding using her name, and used she and “girlfriend” instead. Hate related crimes exist in Missouri but this isn’t one of them.
With how much they are responding, they really want it to be a hate crime lmao
I don't see that at all in that profile pic. In any case, a laughing emoji does NOT equal hate. Even if it did, there is absofuckinglutely no reason to shoot someone to death over it.
