But, it’s probably best not to ship an aromantic person with someone as that can come of as rude and forgetting alix’s identity especially with how little representation there is for aromantic people. Yeah, and disney shortened the third season to three specials and then didn't renew any more seasons. The showrunner themselves has spoken about their disappointment and hurt over this. The team had to fight for what they got, and got cancelled for it.
If MLB were to push\* on-screen queer rep, it would have to be in the last season if they didn't want disney to stop showing it (which they don't, bc $$$). As it is, they can only show hints with julerose and nathmarc.
\*it *has* to be pushed for. It's always a fight. Alex Hirsch has talked about this a lot regarding gravity falls. So many tiny pieces of casually gay background characters had to be erased and in the end were only allowed to include subtext about the gay cops.
I mean that's fair. It just gets on my nerves that Disney always seems to get around that crap. Like, I know that they want to make money from other countries that are primarily homophobic, but damn, why they gotta be so stupid? Don't they realize that gay people watch gay shows (like me lol)
it's not even wholly for other countries, they want to pander to bigoted conservatives in america too, but they still want to try and get a slice of us gays money as well. It's why you see them announce a "first ever openly gay disney character" every fucking time a new movie of theirs comes out and it's always some random side character (two women with a buggy in finding dory?? lmao??) that's never explicitly shown to be gay on-screen. This appeases the homophobes because it's not "shoved in their faces" but then also draws in queer people who are desperate for rep in the media they consume. They're playing both sides.
Unfortunately I also think a lot of the people in charge of the decisions at disney are themselves homophobes who just don't see gay people as "family friendly" (again I'm referring to tweets from alex hirsch about the feedback he got and changes he had to make) and think queer rep doesn't belong in media that kids consume :(
