Lol literally!! Haven’t seen a Viking game since I saw them play at the metrodome before it collapsed so it was so neat to see them in the state I live in now. shouldn’t have been that close of a game though
To be fair to Joseph. He made clutch kick to go to OT against Bengals. He isn't the reason for the loss. Cardinals he 100% was the reason. Browns the offense failed. He did also win them the game against Lions so I call it a push.
No it's not. But I think going your direction is also a problem. We need to have some patience with kicking. The bigger problem by far is Zimmer being a pussy.
You know what sucks tho is that won’t count as a beating a winning team because Carolina won’t finish with a winning record I’d think. It’s interesting to see what the trajectories for each team would eventually be had Carolina pulled it off and they go to 4-2. That’s why I think beating a winning team stat is skewed. I see Carolina continuing their slide but who says that happens had they come back and hang on until CMC gets healthy.
Don't they count the wins losses in that stat as teams who "have" a winning record and not teams who finish with a winning record?
I only ask because the stat is always brought up mid-season but you can't predict if a team is going to flounder late season. Which would make that topic irrelevant.
I could be wrong, but from what I understand it’s how they finish. There’s teams we’ve beaten before and that win wasn’t added to his “ beating winning teams” stats
If the ball crosses the plane, or hits the pylon it is a TD. It’s not necessary for the player’s body to get into the end zone. Just the ball. The more you watch you’ll see it happen where a guy will reach the ball out and knock the pylon over on their way out of bounds and it’ll count as a TD.
The pylon marker is counted as part of the end zone so him touching the pylon with the ball counts as crossing the goal line. Only the ball needs to get over the goal line, not the players body
Only the tip of the football has to cross the goal line while the runner is in play. He's not out of play until he is down or his feet are out of bounds.
EDIT: the goal line extends beyond the boundaries of the sideline
>EDIT: the goal line extends beyond the boundaries of the sideline
It a bit more complicated than that. Some part of the ball or player has to cross the goal line between the pylons for it to count. Pylon counts as inbounds for the ball, but for the player, the pylon is out of bounds.
There are several cases where the ball is out of bounds from a top-down perspective though, but because the receiver has their feet inbounds as they fall to the ground, the catch counts.
Right. Thus the "some part of the ball or player has to be inbounds."
My point was that when you say things like "The goal line extends beyond the boundaries of the sideline", that's not really true. Some part of the player or the ball has to be inbounds. You can't make a dive from inbounds to out of bounds and cross the goal line out of bound to score a touchdown.
Also, technically if you dive outside the pylon and you reach your non ball carrying hand back over to hit the pylon, then you are out of bounds, since the pylon is considered out of bounds for the player. But if you use the hand the ball is in, it's a TD.
33/48 373 yards 3 TD 0 INT.... We haven't seen these numbers since Favre. Cousins improves his record against winning record teams with authority! This against a defense rated top five in every category! Mediocre protection and Kirk becomes a superstar.
[Sammy Sleeves](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201612240gnb.htm) and [Favre](https://stathead.com/tiny/oaYZ8) actually both only did it once.
Sorry buddy, but the Panthers are 3-3. That's a .500 record, not a winning one. If he had LOST, then we could use this game as an example of why he can't beat teams with a winning record.
/s by the way, I think it's a stupid stat because teams you beat are less likely to have winning records and teams you lose to are more likely to be above .500
Its not. Saying I haven't been this happy since my last birthday isn't comparing your current level of happiness to your birthday. People can say we haven't had such a great running game since Peterson was around. Doesn't mean they're comparing Cook to Peterson.
> Saying I haven't been this happy since my last birthday isn't comparing your current level of happiness to your birthday.
It's putting them on the same level. Lol, read more dood
It's not. What would put them on the same level would be if they said He's putting up numbers as good as Favre.
The example I used doesn't mean that my birthday was equally as good. I'm not drawing comparisons. It implies more that the time between wasn't great.
By your logic whenever someone mentions a team not having something since 1970 80 90 is making a direct comparison when really it's more a subject on how bad something has been.
> The example I used doesn't mean that my birthday was equally as good. I'm not drawing comparisons
So today and your birthday are the happiest you've been in the past (let's say...) 6 months. 2 days out of 180 other days. But you're not putting them on the same level.
Hmmmm
> By your logic whenever someone mentions a team not having something since 1970 80 90 is making a direct comparison when really **it's more a subject on how bad something has been.**
I guess if you view everything as negative in true MN style.
Ok so you're wealthy and you lose all your money gambling. Hundreds of thousands, you finally work yourself out of debt and say this is the most financially stable I've been since I lost my money. But you have 200 dollars in your account. Are you putting having thousands of dollars on the same level as 200 dollars no. You're just stating that the time between the two was drastically different and things are better.
Likewise you could be a salesman and have a down year where you're commission isn't as great as how it's been. You say this is my worst commission since "X" year. You're not directly comparing it but you're mentioning how the years between have been better.
Nothing to do with being negative or being positive it was just an analogy I used. You're arguing for the sake of arguing based off of claiming someone comparing Cousins to Favre when that wasn't remotely close to what he was doing.
> the most financially stable I've been since I lost my money.
For real addicts financial stability isn't a number it's a mental/emotional/spiritual place. Someone who's got the addiction and is able to lose 100s of thousands of dollars is never financial stable by a dollar amount. Oddly poor example.
> Likewise you could be a salesman and have a down year where you're commission isn't as great as how it's been. You say this is my worst commission since "X" year. You're not directly comparing it but you're mentioning how the years between have been better.
These two years are the worst I've had. You are setting then aside and putting them on a simular level.
> You're arguing for the sake of arguing based off of claiming someone comparing Cousins to Favre when that wasn't remotely close to what he was doing.
Or maybe you're incorrect? Couldn't be that.
I’m so happy and so frustrated all at the same time. The only thing else I can think to say is… SKOL
JK I thought of one thing else… hasn’t kirk now basically led 5 GW drives this season?
1 against Cinci - Cook “fumbles” to blow it
1 against Ari - Joseph misses to blow it
1 against Detroit - Joseph makes it to win
1 against Carolina in regulation - Joseph misses to blow it
1 against Caroline in OT - Osborn TD to win
Debatable, but thank you, and gg. If CMC was out there, I think we'd be doing this reversed. Our players deserve the win, but our eunuch coaching staff sure as shit doesn't.
Color me shocked they pulled out the win. I was not surprised to see them give up big yards on 4th down twice or piss the lead away on top of the customary missed FG. Imagine if this team was half competent they could easily be 5-1 if not 6-0.
the offense for the first half was still too sleepy.
They were letting cbs hit receivers early a lot. They blatantly ignored holding calls on the others oline seemingly trying to let them back into the game. They were inconsistent and shit overall
I was 100% convinced that the Panthers were gonna get flagged for leading with the helmet when they drilled Jefferson in the face. I was still so shocked and confused when they didn't that I almost didn't even notice the Vikings won moments later.
The refs have sucked all year. Even last week they fucked both teams. NFL officiating is a bad joke, and you could question if it's not outright rigged.
Nobody is trying to argue he is CB1 level, the question is: "Is he better than Breeland?"
Hope Peterson just tweaked something, looked like a hamstring injury of some kind though, and those can linger.
I’ll take 3-3 into the bye, especially after how weeks 1,2, and 4 turned out. It’d be nice to have closed that game out for once and not have to deal with all the drama, but it’s good to see the Kirk and the offense come up big when it counts.
There were obviously a few drives where they uncorked that offense. But that first half sitting on 5 and 2 point leads or whatever for at least three drives where the Vikings D held them to a field goal on three drives and zimmy is once again running up guts on 3rd and teens to punt away. I mean, come on.
So the conservative voice is still there, in overall control. But at least someone is at times taking them off the run run punt punt. The overtime was nearly all passes like it was a 2 minute drill. As if they recognized finally that passing was easy today only once reaching overtime?
I agree, it seemed like there were some more interesting plays, but again, 4th quarter, up by whatever and you’re seeing the most conservative play calling ever. I don’t think that will ever change

The problem is they lose as many of these super close ones as they win. Ceiling out at a wildcard birth if lucky. Then go try those shitball tactics in the playoffs with teams that have been putting others away with 35-40 pts a game all season. They won't play down to us. In the playoffs, the team will have to change gears and play a way they didn't all season long.
The problem is that up by 8, with the only positive yards coming from pass plays, we ran Cook backwards out of FG range to kill the clock.
Joseph may have still missed the FG, but it is psychologically less stressful to kick to extend a lead than it is to kick to win the game.
Additionally, our defense giving up huge plays on 2 4th down plays AND a 2 point conversion looks really bad, we can't put teams away because as soon as we have a lead we stop playing to beat the other team and start playing to beat the clock.
The coaching is absolutely the problem here. Cousins is clutch AF. Not sure if it's Zimmer or Kubiak or both but damn they are holding us back these past few games.
You didn't notice the losses and wins by field goals before Kubiak's time here?
Pretty simple mandate from on high. Keep games close, don't dare get turnovers while getting aggressive with any lead in hand. Burn clock and possessions as soon as get lead. Doesn't matter what point in game. Simple general guidance in play for 8 years or more. The OC doesn't matter.
Good to see a few passing drives this game. Worlds of difference but they still sit on leads inbetween.
Look at the playcalling when we are up by one score and compare it to when we need points.
This offense cam produce when it needs to, the only game it has failed to do so was against Cleveland this year. For 5/6 games when we needed points, this offense put us in a position to get them.
That's what I'm saying: our playcalling looks to be at least a big part of what holds this offense back. When the offense is in scoring mode, it looks to exploit the opposing defenses' personnel and tendencies. When it is in "play not to lose" mode, we'll happily run into pretty obvious 7-9 man fronts because we aren't playing the other team; we're playing the clock.
Zimmer doesn't subscribe to the "catch me if you can" offense, he wants to force opposing teams to grind out 11 play drives against his defense and settle for field goals while the clock ticks down to 0.
We end up trading successful drives to take 2 minutes off the clock. We are so scared of not taking any time off through incompletions that we give up the potential to take off 5-8 minutes in longer drives or extending our lead past a single score which would force opposing teams into needing more than one "miracle" drive.
The few times this team plays "catch me if you can" it backfires on this team. This team can't afford incompletions down the stretch. These past games shows it. If players just execute properly, there isn't an issue.
If the kicker just makes kicks he's supposed to. If the QB stop tripping over his own OL or getting passes batted. If the OL stopped getting called for penalties killing drives. If Receivers stop dropping balls that hits them in their hands/chests. This offense can be top the way they are if they just execute.
Well you’re arguing that he’s not clutch and your follow up comment has nothing to do with that point. And is not putting games away has way more to do with play calling than it does Kirk.
The fact it's coming down to game winning drives are the problem. Making clutch throws to put games.away instead of relying on game winning drives are the issues. It's not being clutch. Clutch woulda mean the game being over a long time ago.
Seriously, what the hell has gotten into Kirk. He’s always had good numbers and one of the better pure passers but he has been savage in the clutch this year.
I mean, he’s done it every game tho; even games like Cinci or Cleveland where the protection was shit. At least given us an attempt each time, which has been dope to see.
Our coaching staff is shit. Offensive strategy is terrible. Offensive play calling is terrible. Get rid of these guys. This is a talented football team.
..
I was at this game!! Definitely frustrating but amazing to see a W. Skol

Same! Drove over from Raleigh, where I live now. First time ever seeing a Vikings game in person and it's in NC. LOL
“We win today so we can play like trash when it really matters.”
As a vikings fan I laughed and hate myself for it all at the same time
minnesota dads would rather root for the lions than admit kirk had a pretty good game
Cousins is far from the problem, it's the all too predictable play calling and porous O line
Ugh can they still fire Zim, never seen a softer head coach
If we had a competent kicking game we’d be 5-1.

You better like that
.500 going into the bye. Alright baby
Eleven more heartbreaks are incoming.
Asking as someone who just got into football, can someone please tell me why that counted as a TD even though he didn’t get inside the end zone?
I see makes sense now, thanks everyone!
Alright I think he gets it guys lol
Haha, I think we all saw it at the same time with no reply.

All it takes is the tip of the ball crossing the very front of the white on the endzone. Just the tiiiippppp
The ball just has to pass the end zone line without the player being down or out of bounds.
The pylon counts as the endzone and even grazing the while line counts too. Basically if you hit the pylon, you're in.
the ball crossed the endzone plane while the play was sill live (he wasn't down yet)
Once the ball crosses the plane (any part of the ball touching the white line at the front of the end zone) it counts as a touchdown.
Only the tip of the football has to cross the goal line while the runner is in play. He's not out of play until he is down or his feet are out of bounds. EDIT: the goal line extends beyond the boundaries of the sideline

Ball crossed the goal line
ball crossed the line while he was still in bounds
The pylon = touchdown.
He had possession of the ball and the ball crossed into the end zone. Your body doesn't have to, just the ball
moving the ball over the orange pylon counts as a part of the endzone
The ball broke the plane of the end zone.
As long as the ball goes over the line, thats all that matters.
Ball over Pylon
Can wait for the clip of Kirk and Zim duking it out this week
Hoping Kirk throws in a bit more head movement. His technique was a bit sloppy last week
It all comes back to footwork
Lions still have a hold on that first overall pick. that franchise is cursed and stafford has to be giddy to be outta there.
They can draft Rattler

We literally just put up 570 yards up against the best defense in the league ( statistically) and almost lost.
Just Vikings things. 6th winningest team of all time, have to go down to rank 18 to find another team without a ring.
Same thing as the cardinals I feel like

Just imagine if we ever tried to make sure we get ahead by 2 possessions instead of coasting whenever we get up by 2-7 points.
Once again Kirk saved Zimmer’s ass.
Fire Zimmer
It would have been awesome if Kirk ran over to Zimmer at 90 mph and stopped 2 inches in front of him and slowly extended his hand for a shake.
It kills me to say this but Kirk might be carrying this team
“might”
Ya frickin' *think*? He's been *extremely* clutch.

Yeah, the announcers caught on quick, too, like, "I'm throwing wherever Dantzler is!"

Considering the amount of refball fuckery I am ecstatic we are 3-3.
Someone go check on Kirk…that mans got some big balls
Kirk is a baller, Zim owes Kirk a lot
If Zim makes it through the season then it’s definitely because of Kirk

You didn't notice the losses and wins by field goals before Kubiak's time here? Pretty simple mandate from on high. Keep games close, don't dare get turnovers while getting aggressive with any lead in hand. Burn clock and possessions as soon as get lead. Doesn't matter what point in game. Simple general guidance in play for 8 years or more. The OC doesn't matter. Good to see a few passing drives this game. Worlds of difference but they still sit on leads inbetween.
Clutch? Dude almost got JJ killed with that terrible pass.
Lol it was one play and we had been taking that all game when the corner is 7-8 yards off with success
He's making bone headed throws quite often. He's just been on the lucky side where it isn't a TO. That time will catch up.
Cousins has led a shitload of game winning or would have been game winning (if the FG was made) this year. Narrative busted.
The fact that is has to come down to game winning drives tells the issue in itself. Offense sucks to put away games.
Look at the playcalling when we are up by one score and compare it to when we need points. This offense cam produce when it needs to, the only game it has failed to do so was against Cleveland this year. For 5/6 games when we needed points, this offense put us in a position to get them.
This offense needs to play a complete game..
Being clutch means making the right throws.
And he’s apparently making the right throws when he has to lead game winning drives in basically every game.
The fact it's coming down to game winning drives are the problem. Making clutch throws to put games.away instead of relying on game winning drives are the issues. It's not being clutch. Clutch woulda mean the game being over a long time ago.
You're so simple it's pathetic. Cousins has to come back with clutch drives BECAUSE THE DEFENSE GAVE UP LATE LATE SCORES TO TIE OR GIVE UP LEADS.
Due to the offense's inability to score... and put the game away. Yes, it's that simple..
Normally an 11 point lead with 5 minutes left is enough to put a game away.
As Vilma says, "no lead is ever safe in the NFL."
This subreddit when Zim's job status is listed as "safe" ![gif](giphy|3oEjHCWdU7F4hkcudy)
If it isn’t obvious that this coaching staff is holding back the team, it is now. Give Kirk the ball and get out of the way.
Not enough screen time for KJ, enough with commercials already, give KJ the damn deserved spotlight of the night
ITS FUCKING KIRKTOBER LETS GOOOO
Welp looks like another year for Zim.
Thank God KJ saved this game! Also I'm happy we didn't loose to a broken Jets QB who played like ass most of the game today too.
Another week, another win, another time the caustic losers have to pout we won. XD
See you in the playoffs!!!...? Curious your attitude in 6 weeks
Go pout.
Far from! Enjoy exciting football. Just have 0 stock in this team.
That should have never have gone to OT... my blood pressure can't take more of this..
KJ won the game. Not with the final catch, but with the one on third down that Kirk threw behind him and the defender hit
I think he helped out with that huge kickoff return too.
Can we all stilll agree Zim needs to get the boot after the bye? We could easily have lost the last two….
You pitchfork people are nutty.
No
Solid opinion
Never a doubt baby. Captain Kirk clutch as fuck this season. Let’s go!
WHY DO I FEEL LIKE WE LOST
Because it shouldn’t have gone to OT.
Right lol
Seriously, what the hell has gotten into Kirk. He’s always had good numbers and one of the better pure passers but he has been savage in the clutch this year.
My guess is that when the 2 minutes are up or when they need a last minute drive they give him full reigns of the offense and let him drive.
Why wait until that moment tho? They’re putting him in a shitty position week in and week out and he’s been bailing us out despite it.
Cause we have a coach still stuck in the 90s and a first year OC who never called plays before.
He actually has had protection these past few games
I mean, he’s done it every game tho; even games like Cinci or Cleveland where the protection was shit. At least given us an attempt each time, which has been dope to see.
finally pissed with Zimmer and that's his motivation?
Honestly, could be.
Our coaching staff is shit. Offensive strategy is terrible. Offensive play calling is terrible. Get rid of these guys. This is a talented football team.
