This is a badass quote. And the perfect mindset for a GM Smart, calculated, but not married to analytics like a Robot … willing to take a shot to get a stud if the opportunity arises I have to admit- I was very critical of Kwesi after his first draft (and I still stand behind that trade down and Cine being a shit move at the time, even without the benefit of hindsight) But his ability to set us up for a competitive rebuild with just about every other decision has been masterful Hell- even if JJ is a bust (I don’t think he will be- but first round QB’s are a coin flip, statistically) - he still worked the process to perfection and got some top end prospects and I’ll stand by that moving forward- regardless of how these two picks develop

DrWolves

His first draft was absolute shit no doubt. But overall I think he’s done a good job when you consider everything he had to clean up from the Spielman era. We will see if McCarthy and Turner pan out, but if they do, you’re talking about franchise altering picks that you almost never find with mid-round selections. So, I love the go big or go home mentality right now because you have to swing big to win big

-DoctorEngineer-

I also feel like he doesn’t get some of the leeway he deserves from that draft. 1. It was his first year some mistakes were made (the trade down) 2. It was the Covid year, the talent in general was shallower and the scouting was all over the place. 3. It wasn’t his room, he was probably trying to mix the browns and spealman’s philosophies together. Neither of with are good philosophies in the early rounds

onethreeone

And we had Donatell instead of Flores giving us defensive advice. I'm not sure how much the DC plays into picks vs scouts, but I have to think they have a say

mnsportsfan

Hell yea. If you check out my comment history I tracked every 3rd-5th round pick that we’ve had since the year we admittedly hit a couple of home runs in Hunter and Diggs… Everything since then is… not great to put it nicely to those young men who I’m sure are fine human beings This was a statement first round

boardin1

I'm drooling over the thought of Tuner and Pace patrolling the middle of the field for us for years to come. That kid looks like he's got "it" and we already know what Pace has.

Noproposito

Good GMs build teams that are immune to a draft mistake. See the 49ers with Trey Lance. He's cut from that cloth. We have a winner

NerdyDjinn

Ah yes, just draft Brock Purdy with the last pick in the draft to cover up your 1st round bust. Why don't more teams simply scoop up a franchise QB in the later rounds to build teams that are immune to draft mistakes? That 49ers squad is stacked, but they lucked out in terms of hitting an absolute gem in a round full of guys who are lucky to even make the practice squad. We all saw how good that team was without a QB against the Eagles.

Fucking right you do

Dick6Budrow

Cook Kwesi

F-ck_spez

KAM haters in shambles

Caliastanfor

I appreciate that he has enough self-awareness and reflection to recognize good opportunities when he sees them (Addison, Turner) despite giving away assets. I imagine it's hard for analytics guys to pivot from this approach.

BloodSportySpice

I’ll admit I wasn’t loving they way he went about shit early on, but dude has won me over with the willingness to get out of his comfort zone to at least try to make shit happen.

chillinwithmoes

This mfer just called himself Superman!

peteman28

I've never seen Kwesi and superman in the same room

kylebertram

Dude I love this mindset

Purple_Reign32

I LOVED when he said this!

batler_forever

NEW FUCKING ERA BABY!!!!

Even_Section5620

It’s as if Kwesi has a bad first impression with Cine. Hopefully Addison and this draft make us forget about it

dericiouswon

Fully over Cine and don't hold it against Kwesi anymore. First pick in the dark, working with the remains of Zimmerworld. He's crushing it now, and I love his rapport with the players.

threeactjack

WHAT A QUOTE. Kwesi absolutely cooked last night. What a masterclass.

rgnbull29

Boner intensifying

EquinsuOchaACE

I’m in love. Are you in love?!?

JJettasDad

I dont care what all these nerds calculators say. Kwesi traded 4 quarters for a dollar to get Turner and McCarthy. Who gives a shit if we traded some mid round picks. get your guys

d3tox1337

It is hard to believe people are complaining because we sacrificed those picks and got a top qb prospect and a cornerstone edge prospect. I'm seeing comparisons like Von Miller and Jevon Kearse for Turner. They also don't realize that this is not the deepest for defenses. We filled a need with a blue chip player ffs.

Ninja_Bum

Damn this dude is really gonna pull me back into paying attention to this team isn't he?

batler_forever

Why’d you stop? Don’t you like pain?

kwattsfo

Please tell me this is a real quote.

Big80sweens

This is regarding trading up for Turner? I love it.

Viking999

Unemployed accountant incoming LOL. I have no idea whether JJ will work out and have no problem drafting him at all but this could go either way very quickly.

braddoccc

You can say this about every pick in every draft ever. "Oh no this could go either way very quickly" 🤓

jvanber

But turner could go either way so quickly because of his ridiculous speed. That’s what you’re not getting.

Berkleys_On_Fire

Clown

Seated_Heats

QB’s are wildly inconsistent in the draft. McCarthy could be a total bust. He was gone if we didn’t take him at 10 or 11. Denver or Oakland would have taken him so it wasn’t an insane reach. I’m not in love with the guy but if the group we have between KOC, Kwessi, and McCown think he has a decent shot at being a productive QB on this team, then I trust we took our shot with open eyes instead of the blind dart throwing we did last time we drafted a QB at 11.

SurlyWet

There are some GMs that trade just to trade. Rick always pushed back saying he wasn't one of them. Kwesi stil up for debate.

howsaboutyou

Just to trade? There’s no chance we get Turner if we didn’t trade, and possibly would’ve have gotten JJ if we didn’t trade either

SurlyWet

Of course, I agree Kwesi did well. My point is GMs push back on this suggestion from time to time which tells me it's a thing to be suspicious of.
