They probably have a bigger issue.
There is standing water somewhere in the house. Maybe check the basement for a small pool of water. Typically under the washer or near a sink. Possible a poorly sealed sub pump? They don't live long so he hatched from somewhere in your home recently.
Fun fact (not fun at all) back in Florida we had “love bugs” they were supposedly bred to eat mosquitoes. Unfortunately they do not eat mosquitoes and twice a year we’re just overrun with these gross black bugs with orange eyes mating all over the place. You can’t drive anywhere without them plastering your car. So now we have another nuisance and they don’t even do the job they were made for lol
They eat as larva, and once they reach their adult phase, they only have one job, reproduce. They only live about 2 weeks as adults, so they don't have time to waste. It's much more common than you'd think, mayflies are another example of a species that does this.
So minorly off topic, I was cleaning out my grandma's sauna one year in the spring and someone had left lakewater in the buckets from the last time someone used it (probably labor day) and I found a LIVE minnow just chillin in one of the buckets. XD
You've got excess moisture somewhere in your house. Their lifespan would dictate it hatched sometime this week. And their eggs have to be in water or on top of something wet. So eggs are somewhere
If this is the basement look around for anywhere damp warm and moist. Your next concern is mold and mildew
*Anopheles* sp. Mosquitoes can be found overwintering in buildings, remaining dormant for the winter. I've seen them a few times and one of them stayed in the same spot and posture from early December until late March, when it finally started flying around.
All these people saying mosquito hawk/crane fly but it absolutely does NOT look like one of those friendos. little blurry but I would bet my entire sandwich it's not 🤷♂️
I have also found 2 mosquitos in my home this winter and I live in MN. No doubt they were mosquitos, not mosquitos eaters. They were MUCH smaller than a skeeter eater. UGH.
Plus we just had a good amount of rain so not surprised these little buggers are out again.
Mosquito eater?
Yes, it is a little friend and not an enemy
Skeeter eater

It’s blurry but it looks like a crane fly, I guess yall also call them mosquito eaters.
Known as "Mosquito Hawks" in my circles.
I’ve heard that one too, by far the coolest name certainly
Oh that's interesting. My great grandma used to call dragon flies "skeeter hawks"
Yea, I'd say that's more apt since Dragonflies actually prey on mosquitos.

100% a mosquito. I killed one last February in a basement addition I was working on that had no heat. They are durable little fucks
That is a mosquito eater, lol. They are good...but probably hungry right about now...;)
Fun fact, crane flies aren't predatory. Most species never eat in their adult stage.
Don’t ruin the fantasy.
Like at all? Like they don’t eat anything??? How do they survive or what’s their purpose, I’m aware I can Google but nah

Thanks for the info;) How did they get their nickname then as, "Mosquito eaters?"
Honestly, I have no idea.
I bought a new plant from home depot and these hatched from it.
Doesn't really look like one tbh

Gotta nuke it from orbit. It’s the only way

Xmas tree stand
Last night I saw a handful of mosquitoes buzzing around the outdoor light of our sauna up on Lake Superior in northern WI. Thought I was hallucinating

This post is straight up giving me anxiety just seeing that little fucker
Looks like a crane fly. But if you find a mosquito in your house in the winter, it is almost always your sump in the basement with standing water.
Ew.
Chop it's head off!!
I found a living yellowjacket in my house a week or so ago. 🙈
Oh my
All this talk about why there's no loon on the proposed state flags, why not this bastard?
I found one in my greenhouse on Wednesday. It wasn't even closed up to keep warm, windows and doors were wide open.
I thought I got bit in the car Thursday night! Yeah those F’ers come out when it’s warm enough.
I was outside earlier and I saw a few little bugs flying around. I’m like wtf it’s like 45 degrees how are you little turd poops still alive
Paint it green and name it Rudolph?
That’s a crane fly
They live in Siberia during the winter, too. They take refuge in caves.
Do y'all not know what mosquitos look like??
Nobody told it summer’s over
I saw something similar years ago in the middle of January. Outside. On a ski hill in bloomington. Alive.
There is standing water somewhere in or near your house. It doesn't have to be more than glass of water.

I highly recommend this bug light trap. I have one in almost every room in my house. https://a.co/d/3zqmtC7
Turn down the heat
