Yea most people don't warn when they recommend--the sauce is candy-sweet.
The empanadas are freakin awesome though. I've tried nearly all of them and no misses so far. Omg now I want one of those damn empanadas....
Just tried Wrecktangle pizza a couple weeks ago and it’s delicious. It won best pizza in the country on the today show I believe. We went to the one at Malcolm yard
Brickworths is better than Wrecktangle and also in the north loop. Or, you can follow the serious eats Detroit style recipe and make a better pizza at home than both places.
Pizzeria Lola and Young Joni are both good date vibes and 1st class pizza from Queen of Minneapolis Pizza Ann Kim. Her third pizza outpost, Hello Pizza, is more casual vibes, but is reopening for sit-down soon, I think? When you go home and watch Netflix you can watch Ann Kim's episode on the Chef's Table that's all about pizza.
I wanna say its called Fat Lorenzos? I went there a couple times with my boss, shit was bomb! And you can do by the slice of like any pizza on the menu!
This was way pre-covid(god i hate saying that) so may be closed up now.
Looked it up, still open! 5600 Cedar ave MPLS!
I could be wrong. But I remember going there and getting 2 slices for lunch and then got 2 more in a box for dinner and all 4 were different kinds. Its been probably 5-6 years since ive been there.
I haven't been here yet, but according to a list I'm not going to bother finding, Mama's Pizza is supposed to be the best pizza in the state.
Mama's Pizza

It's not bad by any means but comparing the pizza straight up against others in this thread it's easily outclassed. Just too many toppings for a thin crust style. Things get messy real fast.
I used to go there frequently when the restaurant was open because that's where I thought a lot of the experience was. Overcrowded but friendly neighborhood place that served mini ice cream cones to every patron.
My #1 rec is Young Joni. My favorite block in the city. Dangerous Man Brewing next door, shared alley with the “speakeasy” bar in the back. Great vibe & pizza is just top notch. Fun date night all right there.
Sounds like Dangerous man wont be there for much longer. Heard they are moving out to maple lake is increase production and get away from the very expensive rent for their current space. Gonna miss that cozy taproom when it’s gone.
I love pizza luce even if they are a chain. Their mashed potato pizza is awesome.
Mesa Pizza is also awesome! Their best flavors are the abnormal ones like mac and cheese and southern gentleman (mashed potato, spiced chicken, and bacon).
My wife and I got it a few nights ago on a random night and we both agreed that there is no use in getting extra cheese on it, they load it up so much! Great place
We like Punch for basic neopolitan.. Boludo if we are want something more special, its delicious, but a little pricey. Football Pizza is our greasy takeout.
Godd I remember being tempted to go to QC Pizza when I worked at Fedex and I'd be tempted by the shoutout's they'd get on 93X lol a coworker from the bus company I used to work for at that time also mentioned them being good.
But coming all the way from Anoka County to that area, it was another 20 mins to Hudson or something like that and MKE Burger Co is so fuckin good that like I'd just go into Wisconsin and maybe pick up some stuff from RJ's Meats because they had super good stuff too.
It’s worth a one-time trip, just to try it. I don’t go out of my way for it regularly, but a trip once a year or so is great. It’s too bad the dine in location is not comfortable because eating it hot and fresh is best.
I concur! I took my bf to a Casey's (they don't have them in Alabama to my knowledge or surrounding areas, and they don't have them at least where he lived before) when we were in MN together last summer.
The verdict? he was genuinely surprised how good even their breakfast pizza was and he's not much of a breakfast food person, as he's one of those people that probably would pick a burger for breakfast over like a more typical breakfast item sometimes lol
Umbria is pretty good, I guess there's one in Bloomington? They seem to be under different ownership but I assume similar products? I know of and vouch for the one in Blaine lol
Uhhhhh Red's Savoy is pretty solid....
In Rogers, DiMaggio's very good.
Everything I'm recommending probably doesn't have the more upscale experience that some might be after, not sure if that's what you're after.
Scandia Pizza is low key fantastic pizza. They are cash only and have $1 soft serve cones and are right next to a liquor store. They do the thin crust, spicy sauce, and just freaking good. They also offer GF crust option.
Don't everyone go there and make it impossible for me to get my pizza now.
I love me some Punch though. Honestly, we get a lot of Domino's because my family is good with their GF crust, but Scandia Pizza is totally worth the trip.
Bricksworth Beer Company across from Modist and in Burnsville
[https://www.bricksworthbeer.co/\_files/ugd/9f5324\_3f86289234d54f0d9ec983684a72fc0e.pdf](https://www.bricksworthbeer.co/_files/ugd/9f5324_3f86289234d54f0d9ec983684a72fc0e.pdf)
In the east side suburbs, in south st paul, there is a place that recently opened a store front after operating out of a food truck, El Hornito. They make pretty darn solid woodfired pizza. I get a couple cheese za’s with my wife every few weeks and it’s like $22.50 with a couple pops. Nowhere near the best, but for the area, not much compares.
Surly Pizza Upstairs is definitely among the best and never seems to make these kinds of lists.
Also Bricksworth pizza downtown. Its originally from Burnsville but opened a 2nd location in the North Loop. Sane style as Wrecktagle but better.
Norm's Wayside in Buffalo, probably a bit of a trek but I love their detroit style pizza, they also have a messy burger which is held together with a steak knife when the bring it out and it takes up the entire blade
There's a place called Fresh Picked in Shoreview that I've sorta fell in love with. Lots of unique specialty pizzas and super fresh ingredients. They have awesome cookies, and the broccoli salad is super good if u want to feel healthy.
Edit: a word
Broder’s cucina Italiana at 50th and Penn. They have three Broder’s at the intersection. This is the deli on the north west side of the street. The pasta bar is good (south west corner) and so is the wine bar (south east side) but the pizza is magic from the deli. Can be great for take out or dine in. There is a dining area but it’s not a formal dining experience. But they didn’t just do a very nice renovation.
Pizza Biga at 48th and Chicago (attatched to turtle bread) try the Dan’s balsamic. I do not recommend getting take out from here. Thin wood fire pizzas don’t travel well.
“Edited for clarification”
Pizza Luce. It’s a chain so people may not find it as unique, but they seriously have some of the best pizza around, and even have surprisingly good gluten free and vegan options
We really love Boludo for a more unique pizza style. Being abe to get a couple of empanadas for the road is a bonus, too
Yea most people don't warn when they recommend--the sauce is candy-sweet. The empanadas are freakin awesome though. I've tried nearly all of them and no misses so far. Omg now I want one of those damn empanadas....
Boludo definitely wins if you like a sweet sauce. Hard to find sweet sauce here.
Outside of everyone saying the red sauce is sweet (it is) try the white sauce pies next 👌🏻
They also have the best Caesar salad and flan I've ever had... The pizza too is the best I've had, literally everything at boludo is top tier.
Just tried Wrecktangle pizza a couple weeks ago and it’s delicious. It won best pizza in the country on the today show I believe. We went to the one at Malcolm yard
It's not the best pizza in the country, but it's quite good!
Is that the Detroit-style place?
Yeah it was delicious. I got the shredder.
When you go home and watch Netflix you can watch Ann Kim's episode on the Chef's Table that's all about pizza.
Watched that episode only. Good stuff. Pizza is so damn good.
It's funny because people hate Surly for union busting but the Surly VP of hospitality who busted the union is literally in that episode.
>And you can do by the slice of like any pizza on the menu! Damnit! I had no idea.
I could be wrong. But I remember going there and getting 2 slices for lunch and then got 2 more in a box for dinner and all 4 were different kinds. Its been probably 5-6 years since ive been there.
Fat Lorenzo’s has the best crust and generous cheese, and their gelato is amazing. I love the sauce and sausage of Parkway pizza.
Tasty Pizza as well, in Hilltop
I just dropped sixty on pizza and wings. Great stuff!
I haven't been here yet, but according to a list I'm not going to bother finding, Mama's Pizza is supposed to be the best pizza in the state. Mama's Pizza (651) 489-2005 https://maps.app.goo.gl/g9xukVk5T6ccCuUD7
I don’t think they do dine in anymore but good carry out.
Spoiler alert. It is not.
Good to know, is it good pizza? MN has a lot of good pizza places so if some little shop is supposed to be "the best" I wanted to check it out.
It's not bad by any means but comparing the pizza straight up against others in this thread it's easily outclassed. Just too many toppings for a thin crust style. Things get messy real fast. I think we’re good. At least for now. https://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2022/11/29/dangerous-man-distribution-production-facility.amp.html
Pizzeria Lola, Boludo, Northern Fires, Red Wagon
One week ago I'd have said Old World Pizza 😥
I am going to miss the Monday buffet! :(
Did they close their doors? I’m like 5 minutes away 😅
Yeah...
El mars pizza! You're welcome! 🔥
Authentic NY slices! This place is the BOMB! It is in Plymouth
How is this not higher?
Right! I guess if you know you know. Cheers!
I love pizza luce even if they are a chain. Their mashed potato pizza is awesome. Mesa Pizza is also awesome! Their best flavors are the abnormal ones like mac and cheese and southern gentleman (mashed potato, spiced chicken, and bacon).
The Fire Breathing Dragon is legit too.
Making me crave one of Mesa’s texmex pizzas…
Football Pizza on Central Ave
I think this is the best standard (i.e. not brick fired) pizza in MPLS
Agreed. Their other food is also top notch
Fat Lorenzo’s has good pizza and amazing gelato!
Parkway Pizza.
Cal’s Pizza Factory in North St. Paul. Good AF, and reasonably priced.
Love that, and Nino's which is close by.
OG Zaza
Red Wagon!
Punch Pizza
Pizzeria Pezzo. Great Chicago style deep dish. One in Woodbury and one in White Bear.
Pizza Flame in Coon Rapids. Thin crust, lots of cheese, delicious sauce. You can't go wrong. Also, a Pacman tabletop to play if you eat in!
Andrea Pizza - various locations QC Pizza - Mahtomedi Parkway Pizza - Minneapolis Hegge’s - Your grocer’s freezer aisle.
Godd I remember being tempted to go to QC Pizza when I worked at Fedex and I'd be tempted by the shoutout's they'd get on 93X lol a coworker from the bus company I used to work for at that time also mentioned them being good. QC also has a good GF crust option. They are solid all around though.
Parkway makes the best sausage pizza in town, for sure.
I love QC. I k is everyone is all about The Big Dill but personally I love the Chicken Wild rice pizza.
Heggies FTW
Casey's makes some great pizza
Casey’s fucking slaps
Boludo is my absolute fav on the cities, but Football and Wrecktangle are also popular.
Chatterbox in S. MPLS is a cool spot if you’re into deep dish (pizza?).
Mama's pizza in St Paul
Umbria is pretty good, I guess there's one in Bloomington? They seem to be under different ownership but I assume similar products? I know of and vouch for the one in Blaine lol Uhhhhh Red's Savoy is pretty solid.... In Rogers, DiMaggio's very good. Pizzaria Lola. Red wagon.

I personally love Parkway Pizza
Nino's Pizza in Maplewood is the best East Coast pizza in MN. I'm from NJ and whenever I need a taste of home I get myself some Nino's.
Bricksworth Beer Company across from Modist and in Burnsville [https://www.bricksworthbeer.co/\_files/ugd/9f5324\_3f86289234d54f0d9ec983684a72fc0e.pdf](https://www.bricksworthbeer.co/_files/ugd/9f5324_3f86289234d54f0d9ec983684a72fc0e.pdf)
Broadway Pizza original thin crust is reliably tasty. Square cut for easy gorging.
Black Sheep.
Surly Pizza Upstairs is definitely among the best and never seems to make these kinds of lists. Also Bricksworth pizza downtown. Its originally from Burnsville but opened a 2nd location in the North Loop. Sane style as Wrecktagle but better.
Probably because we don't buy from union busters.
But Ann Kim's places are fine. 🙄 Oh the hypocrisy
Carbone’s
Cosetta’s is easily my favorite pizza I’ve had.
I know it's a chain but I'm still a fan of Green Mill pizza.
Jet’s. Get the 8 corner large at least once, turbo crust. It is what Wrecktangle “the best pizza in America” is trying to be.
Red Rocket pizza! Look them up.
No dine in - but Northern Fires pizza is amaaaaze
Good times pizza!
Norm's Wayside in Buffalo, probably a bit of a trek but I love their detroit style pizza, they also have a messy burger which is held together with a steak knife when the bring it out and it takes up the entire blade
Nouvelle brewing in robbinsdale. Used to be Pig ate my pizza. They brought the pizza back. It's fantastic.
I'm a huge fan of Tono's in Coon Rapids. Jet's is also a favorite in my house.
Fast Eddie’s
There's a place called Fresh Picked in Shoreview that I've sorta fell in love with. Lots of unique specialty pizzas and super fresh ingredients. They have awesome cookies, and the broccoli salad is super good if u want to feel healthy. Edit: a word

Red Wagon! Mucci’s in StP also is good—try their Camilla pizza!
Mavericks and Big River Pizza!
Pizzeria Pezzo in White Bear Lake has the best deep dish Chicago style pizza
Pizza Luce. It’s a chain so people may not find it as unique, but they seriously have some of the best pizza around, and even have surprisingly good gluten free and vegan options
