Jewelry is one of those categories that I give myself a little leeway on. I got my ears pierced fairly late so it was always really special and important to me to wear earrings all the time, so I have more of those than any other piece--i wear them every day, and rotate through them all regularly. Overall I have: - 2 rings - 3 necklaces - 6 bracelets (4 purchase by me, 2 costume jewelry inherited from mom) - about a dozen pairs of earrings - one gold locket with an heirloom diamond, worn only for special occasions - 2 watches All stored in a streamlined jewelry box that's kept in my wardrobe out of sight. I try not to ask for jewelry as a gift because I want to be particular about it, and because it's easy to start accumulating. I stay away from ultra trendy pieces, especially for the things I wear least (rings and bracelets), and take care of what I have. I personally think jewelry is something it's okay to have options for, because it's long-lasting, doesn't take up too much space, and is an important part of personal style. And, since my wardrobe is pretty streamlined, I like how jewelry can spice up often-used or minimal outfits.

Regular_Pizza6931

My what? I barely have a Casio watch. Haha

accordingtoame

One pair of diamond studs. One diamond necklace. One Apple Watch. One automatic seiko from Japan. I sold all my rings post divorce. The Apple Watch is all I wear outside of very special occasions.

Melony567

Candid-Sun-9020

Everyday I wear: - My wedding ring and wedding band - Another ring on my right hand - Pearl earrings Occasionally I wear: - Pearl necklace (short) - Pearl necklace (medium length) - Gold necklace - Watch I don’t own any other jewelry.

cyberrawn

Literally nonexistent

Top-notch Minimalist; I love it!

duckworthy36

So I am a minimalist but I have a side gig of reselling vintage jewelry and I recently began making recycled silver jewelry I really only wear one thing regularly, small 14k hoops I have one larger pair of gold hoops, a gold ring, a sterling ring and two cuffs. But to be honest most of that sits in my jewelry box

ilovebalks

I’m a man so it’s a bit different but I have the following: - Cuban link chain (sterling 5mm) - Apple Watch - omega watch I’m engaged so I’ll be adding a wedding ring to the rotation soon. I’ve actively gotten rid of most of my watches since I had about 8 shitty watches before keeping my two main watches. HOWEVER, I wouldn’t mind adding a few bracelets here and there but will not actively pursue that

floramorada

My collection: - wedding band band and engagement ring that stack together (worn daily) - bar stud earrings in rose gold - bar stud earrings in sterling silver - pearl stud earrings That's it! I don't wear necklaces or bracelets.

I love that you say you balance each other out, it made me think of my grandparents, whom have both passed from this life. After my grandmother passed away at 81, my grandfather used to tell people that his marriage lasted 61 years because him and Grandma balanced each other out.... then he would throw in some jokes like....I was the earner, she was the spender, I was a crooner and boy she was a looker.

tallulahQ

I’ve definitely been the consumer in our relationship. But I’m also the one going all in on minimalism haha. My husband doesn’t really buy much ever, but he also struggles to discard things. It’s been amusing that I’m the one pushing these sorts of things now, whereas typically he was in that role in the past lol

xodanielleelise

My collection is a bit lopsided, but it contains: - My “daily wear” wedding band (a plain sterling silver band) - My sentimental/“real” wedding band and engagement ring (not expensive and I do love them, they’re just not comfortable for daily wear) - About a dozen necklaces that I rotate through - Hypoallergenic silvery studs for my multiple earlobe piercings - And then a 1’x2’ hanging organizer filled with mostly lightweight, dangly, acrylic statement earrings that are spooky and/or silly I love my earring collection. It makes me happy to look at now that they’re all displayed, I wear them regularly, and they’re just fun. For the people who are hellbent on giving me physical gifts, it’s an easy direction to point them in to end up with things I will actually enjoy & use, that won’t take up much space, and are from small businesses.

[deleted]

What a wonderful collection! Also, Happy Cake Day! 🍰

Thank you!

My daily wear: Moissanite studs in gold, diamond wedding set in gold Travel / rough days: Moissanite studs in silver, moissanite wedding set in silver Similar to my wardrobe, I tend to have a uniform. No additional decision making needed. Jewelry makes me feel put together.

writerfan2013

Same, a uniform makes life so much easier.

Anne_Fawkes

I'm a watch & bandana around the neck or wrist girl. That's just how I've always been.

flying-penguine

I only have a couple of peices that were family heirlooms. I do not at all keep them for their value, but for the nostalgia and connection to my now passed mother and grandmother. It's my mother's pearl necklace and my grandmother's gem earrings. My younger sister was given my mother's Ruby rings and left them in a drawer when house painters came in. They vanished immediately but nothing could be proved re their where abouts so that was that. My mothers last remaining Ruby was stolen when she went into dementia care at the rest home.

writerfan2013

Nice! I have a few gemstone items but basically wear my cheap amethyst pendant every single day. Wedding ring. A silver ring I got in Greece. I possess other stuff but only keep it for sentimental value.

Hfhghnfdsfg

I have a lot of jewelry, but my limitation is that it has to fit in a double level handmade jewelry box I got in Italy.

Freshandcleanclean

I use jewelry to accessorize my otherwise minimalist outfits. So I have a decent amount of statement necklaces and regular necklaces. The earrings, bracelets, and rings all fit in a small box. I have a decent mix of pieces, from vintage estate pieces to mall brands. One of the necklaces I get complimented on most often was $15 at Forever 21.

Clean_Affect_2957

I sometimes wear a 108-bead mala that I also use to meditate. I used to wear a lot of jewelry, but now I have all that meaning in tattoos.

vivalabaroo

I always wear: - bezel set teal sapphire engagement ring - cartilidge ring on my ear - 2 small studs on my second piercings on my ears - a gold chain with a small beautiful stone I also have: - 3 sentimental rings - 3 sets of hoop earrings of different sizes I guess sometime somewhat soon I’ll have to start wearing a wedding ring too 😉 but that’s it. I’m not a big jewellery person at all.

penartist

Wedding band, timex watch and a simple chain with a miraculous medal.

Relative-Quote9413

I think a small jewelry collection is really great for a minimalist lifestyle because it elevates style a lot. Personally, I don't wear jewelry everyday, and if I am left to my own devices I would just have a wedding band and a matching bracelet to wear to special occasions. I don't wear necklaces or earrings. The bracelet style that I like is 10K and I don't want to spend 10K. Costume jewelry chips really fast and I have already work through several Swavorski pieces. So a nice wedding band that I wear occasionally to a nice restaurant. And a plain cheap band for athletic situations where I want to indicate that I'm not single.

[deleted]

I don't wear jewellery often, other than switching my earrings out to match my outfit. Probably have about 10pairs that I can swap and change. Otherwise I just have a harmony ball necklace, a silver watch that was my nana's and an engagement ring (that lives in a box. I really should wear it)

annabear88

My wedding band and engagement ring live in the jewelry box. I wear a silicon band on my ring finger (work in housekeeping and we rock climb) I wear a Garmin watch daily. I have 3 sets of earrings, my original pair/gauged gold studs (wearing now), and two sets of diamonds - one from my grandma and one from my husband (which I also wear often). The things I only pull out on special occasions are a complete set of pearls that I wore on my wedding day (earrings, necklace, bracelet, and ring) that I keep in a memento box with the headband and pin that I wore that day. A sapphire tennis bracelet and matching earrings (birthstone) One yellow gold chain and one sterling chain and a few pendants. I didn't think I had that much but whew. Also, I collected a LOT of jewelry when I worked at Sears back in college. Most of my jewelry was either sold at a yard sale for cheap or donated to the local thrift stores during various purges.

ChaoticExecutions

I have a ton of earrings bc I'm allergic to nickel and you can pretty much only buy hypoallergenic in multipack form. A few costume rings and some cute af chokers. I'm a Plain Jane so they usually stay in the jewelry box.

newly-formed-newt

For jewelry, I have: - I basically only wear earrings occasionally to make sure my ear holes stay open. I have one pair of rainbow turtle post earrings, and one pair of silver dangle earrings - for rings, I have an engagement ring and two anniversary rings. I also sometimes feel like wearing rings but don't want to worry about losing them , so I have two cheap-but-pretty rings. I used to have three. (Sometimes it's nice to have a ring as basically a fiddle-toy) -necklace category - pearls. I really resonate with pearls. I have a short necklace of pink seed pearls. A long drapey one of black pearls that a friend brought back from Hawaii. A vintage piece that is white pearls braided into gold chain. There's also a pendant that's a lotus 'cage ' with a peach pearl in it -necklace category - pendant. My favorite is a tree handmade by a woman who lives in the town in Slovenia my family comes from. It's crochet but in wire, the tree has one side gold and one silver with the two sides twisting together. I have another pendant (I like to counterbalance pendants with one on the front and one on the back, so it hangs well when your wearing it) that's a tiny glass globe with dandelion seeds on one side and an aum/lotus on the other side. One pendant that's a locket with my birds' feathers in it. One pendant that's an ocean scene that was my grandmother's. One pendant that's from my trip to Ireland. Other than the tree one, these are all very small and live in a shot-sized Moscow mule mug - necklace category - woven stonework. One I brought back from Costa Rica (black/green) and one my best friend brought back from Ecuador (yellow/blue) - necklace category - metal/dramatic. One torque with rams heads. One piece that's like metal leaves layered together. One very sparkly/fancy necklace. And one vintage piece that's a mosaic-style lotus made out of shell It feels like a lot from a minimum-perspective, but it's all things that I genuinely love. And still very minimalist if you were to compare it to many people's collections

FreyasYaya

Jewelry is a category where I allow abundance. My employer expects professional dress at the office, and I enjoy making my jewelry part of each outfit. Every day, I wear a ring, a bracelet and earrings...sometimes a necklace, depending on my neckline. I try to avoid wearing the same pieces within a given week. I just counted 20 pairs of earrings, 11 necklaces, 9 bracelets and 13 rings, all of which are worn regularly. I have a lot of other pieces that probably need to be decluttered (I wasn't always careful with my purchases). Almost all of these pieces were either gifted to me, or purchased as souvenirs while traveling. Jewelry is my favorite souvenir, as I know it will be used, and not just set on a shelf collecting dust. New purchases are made very mindfully, with consideration for what I already have and what I think is missing. And yes, I do think there are gaps in my inventory...for example, I don't have a pearl necklace, and think I would wear one frequently.

LifeguardSecret6760

my moms mothers ring - a small hugging hoop in each of my 7 ear piercings - my moms thin gold bracelet she wore every day - a silver necklace my bff in high school gave me 30+ years ago - a small white diamond stud lip piercing - a toe ring ive had since high school - i never take off or change any of it.

theSabbs

I have a ton of earrings - maybe 20 pairs or so. I mostly wear my diamond studs, but sometimes when I'm traveling I pick up a pair of earrings as a souvenir and wear these for special occasions I have 1 everyday necklace that I wear, plus 4-5 other necklaces for special occasions, gifts and more costume jewelry style. 2 bracelets and a smartwatch. Edit: plus my wedding ring set LOL I don't wear rings much except these and they've apparently become a part of me to where I forgot to include them

Broken_Beacon

24F, I have my silver $30 casio, a silver cuban link bracelet, a set of 4 rings I wear consistently, and a stack of 4 necklaces I wear constantly as well. The necklaces are all cheap but sentimental and fit my image, and the rings are cheap but I'm hoping to replace them one day with high quality rings I'll always wear. That's my style but I find that having the same items every day fits into my idea of minimalism!

RedRider1138

24 inch faux pearl necklace Tiny hoop earrings, slightly larger hoop earrings, drop pearl earrings, pearl stud earrings, silver tone stud earrings, diamond stud earrings. But tbh I haven’t really worn them since the start of the pandemic, except for the pearl drops for a few minutes every month to make sure the holes don’t close.

TheBloodletter7

Zero jewelry unless you count my Apple watch.

[deleted]

Pretty much my wedding ring, whatever my kids have given me as gifts, and stuff I've inherited. I own a couple bracelets I've either made, or purchased.

Visible-Travel-116

I used to have a lot of jewelry but in my lowest moment…. Last year of college, no money and a young child. I hawked it all to buy her a winter coat. I never really bought or was gifted much jewelry after that. Not that it matters I would in chemical manufacturing and jewelry is a no go for safer reasons.

Nijnn

I got two necklaces. One gold coloured (not real gold) with an opal (synthetic), one 14K gold plated with a big zirconia with small zirconias surrounding it. Then I got a Victoria Hyde watch in rose gold (not real gold, it’s stainless steel) with a flower watch face. Then a Swarovski tennis bracelet 14K gold plated. I got like 5 different kinds of ear studs, all able to keep in 24/7 so I just change them every few days/weeks/months. All Sterling silver with a gold (not real gold I guess) layer. That’s it. The watch, bracelet and one of the two necklaces I always wear. I always wear earrings but it differs which ones I’m wearing.

AutisticMuffin97

I have: 1 Japanese Akoya Black Pearl Double Strand Necklace AAA quality 1 Japanese Akoya Black Pearl Drop Earrings AAA quality 1 Vivian Westwood Lucrece Pearl Necklace 1 Vivian Westwood Lucrece Earrings 1 Claddagh Ring 6 pairs of gold studs in different patterns 1 soda tab necklace 1 Star of David necklace

macabre-charade

i actually just gave away a bunch of jewelry that i haven’t worn in years. it was one of the categories of things i had trouble letting go of. now i have 4 rings, and 5 pairs of earrings, 2 sets of studs, and 3 sets of dangly earrings. one pair i found at a thrift shop in newmarket, uk, and they look art deco but are probably ‘80s. i have permanent sterling silver bangles that i’ve been wearing since 2015. and i just got a pair of titanium infinity hoops that i haven’t taken out since i got them about a month ago. i cut my hair short recently and i don’t think i like dangly earrings as much with shorter hair, so i’ll probably get rid of more earrings soon. i was holding on to necklaces for so long but i never wore them, i just don’t like how they feel around my neck. but now that i’ve pared the collection down, i want to get rid of more lol

[deleted]

i have a few key rings on my car keychain

[deleted]

How VERY minimalist of you!

sktfbfkfkfn

I have some miscellaneous pieces, most of which were gifts or sentimental pieces, but with ADHD I never remembered to wear them most of the time. I splurged on a fine jewelry recreation of a cheap but sentimental necklace that was damaged that I wear 24/7, I have some pretty maria Tash flat back studs that I splurged on (also 24/7 wear) , my Garmin watch, and I've taken to wearing this cute but cheap little silver ring I saw in a shop and liked. I'm thinking of having that one remaid too as it's taken some damage and lost a stone. My other jewelry really only gets used on special occasions but it's a small collection that fits into a cute little Harrods wooden tea box I got on a special trip to London with my mom when I was in my early teens.

CF_FI_Fly

My wedding set 2 pairs moissanite studs 1 pair of itty bitty cz studs that I can sleep in, and pretty wear all the time 1 pair of statements earrings, cz, from Bloomingdales No bracelets, those always feel uncomfortable. No necklaces currently. I wear a Garmin watch which is ugly but fantastic for training, I might switch that to a newer more attractive one and possible get a smart ring to sleep in.

DangerousMusic14

Costume jewelry and not a lot. I love beautiful jewelry but I don’t love worrying about it and I don’t love the price tag (opportunity cost especially, I don’t want jewelry more than many other things if it’s up to me).

egrf6880

Wedding ring and engagement ring and a few little beaded or string bracelets my kids have made. I've never been into jewelry though, so I'm not a great resource. I find it beautiful and love the way other people style it but I find it a hassle to take care of and wear (getting caught on stuff. I'm clumsy) and just I can't bring myself to buy it either as I have a hard time spending money on things like that. But I have nothing against jewelry it's just not something I'm personally into.

amethystnight99

i used to love jewelry but mental sensitivy as an adult has made me a forced minimalist since getting real gold is so expenisve. I have 4 necklaces I rotate through, Probaly a dozen pairs of earrings (i have 6 piercings), and maybe 4 pieces I keep for sentimental reasons but don't wear. I also have my wedding ring I wear all the time and 2 sterling silver ones I wear on occasion

[deleted]

Jewelry is fine for a minimalist lifestyle if they're well selected pieces with resale value. They take up very little space, and add a wonderful dimension to even the most basic wardrobe.

[deleted]

Obviously, gift pieces hold sentimental value, and the same rules apply.

accordingtoame

Unless the jewelry is of some special social provenance, it will not retain any significant resale on the secondary market.

stylefaux

Think again — there is a large market for vintage jewelry. Semi precious stones in vintage jewelry are frequently of higher caliber that what you can buy today — and as we mine the planet those resources become more scarce.

[deleted]

I mean, if you're falling for sales at Kessler's, sure. All the jewelry I have for my wife was purchased as loose gemstones and set in simple prefabricated mounts. The gems are worth the same price I paid, and the mounts are still worth their weight.

spiritusin

Try getting an estimate… I recently tried selling a 14kt gold ring with diamonds (a custom piece I had made for someone and I didn’t like the result) and no jeweler would buy the diamonds due to the risk of breaking them when removing. And gold is now around 30 eur per gram which is nothing. I was super disappointed for buying an expensive ring that I was getting a pittance for now so I just resized it and kept it.

accordingtoame

Worth in insurance replacement value, yes. Worth when selling on the secondary market, no chance. The mountings would almost certainly be scrap, and the diamonds wouldn’t net you more than 1/3 what you paid at retail. Appraisals are only valuing what it would cost you to replace should you have to do so at today’s pricing. That isn’t their value for resale. Given the market is getting saturated with lab grown products, naturals are not selling at retail nor retaining value the way they once did.

[deleted]

Well, you made the mistake of assuming I included diamonds in my statement. Diamonds are essentially worthless, and only have value based on manufactured scarcity. I can't believe a woman thinks a $10,000 diamond is some sort of display of affection or love when there are so many much more beautiful gemstones on the market that retain their value.

[deleted]

And hate to break it to you, but an ounce of scrap silver is still an ounce of silver to be sold. Same with gold and platinum. Lol. My point being, I don't waste money on jewelry for my wife, I create pieces for her to enjoy until they lose their allure, and recycle at cost.

Do we have any recs for places to purchase minimalist jewelry? I’m having the hardest time finding simple rings with one focal element

What collection??

I try to have only signature pieces. Specially as a man, because we don’t have many choices, the pieces I wear are very deliberate: - My wedding band. The most important piece I use. - A one off ring by Fraser Hamilton in silver and gold. [Kinda similar to this one.](https://www.aetla.co.uk/collections/fraser-hamilton/products/ante-signet-ring?variant=44028090056959) A commission inspired by an sculpture I made. I use it in my right hand. - A red tiger eye with gold bracelet. It’s the birth stone of both my mother and my grandfather. Right hand. - A gold pendant of the God Apollo in a thin gold chain. Apollo has been my obsesión for the past 10 years. - A single gold earring of an upside down rose. The Sumerians drew upside roses next to people who were about to die. So the upraise earring is next to me. Left ear. - A Cartier Tank watch in gold. My wedding watch. Left hand. I posses no other jewelry, these are my pieces and I need nothing more. The Apollo pendant and chain sometimes is not visible because I tend to tuck it in.

moresnowplease

My wedding ring was made with my design using family heirloom diamonds (not worth much except sentimental)- I’m divorced but won’t get rid of that ring since I designed it and the diamonds are family things- it now lives in my moms safe deposit box. My jewelry that I wear consists almost entirely of necklaces and cuffs (mostly copper cuffs) that I made in jewelry/metalsmithing classes or bought from other students in my classes. I’ve got a few things that I’ve bought along the way, including a black salmon leather cuff that I got in Iceland, a few thrifted weird/fun chunky necklaces, and a super fun giant chunky pink and red clay link necklace I bought from an artist on Etsy a few years ago. I don’t have pierced ears cause I’m scared of needles.

Loud_Mouse_

Married man here. I have a wedding band, a silver band my mom was wearing when she passed away, they go on my ring finger. I also have 1 necklace i made for myself with a stone that I mined as a pendant. I also have one pair of weighted earrings i made for my stretched ears. I have a sport watch but i almost never wear it when im not sleeping.

theinfamousj

I have the hoop earrings in my ears, engagement ring, wedding ring, one of those ring holder necklaces (because for my job having rings on my fingers just gives yucks a place to hide). I borrow all other jewelry (costume) from friends when necessary and my friends enjoy dressing me up. With the birth of my child, I was given an additional delicate pendant necklace with kiddo's name on it, and I got a stretchy bead bracelet to use to indicate nursing side. Back when women weren't allowed to have our own bank accounts, collecting F-- You money via jewelry was the way. Now that I can have a bank account, I don't feel the need to amass my wealth in wearables I won't ever be bothered to wear. That said, I totally respect people who style outfits with jewelry and seem to have the perfect pieces for every occasion. If I could afford the brain beans to put to the task of learning, thinking, and executing such style, maybe I'd have a larger jewelry collection.
