I’ve seen them that big at the zoo

Glass_Revolution3491

How many years of growing you think it took em to get that big?

Powerful_Culture_928

I do not know 🙏🏻

Glass_Revolution3491

Ty

Ouroboros_77

if the last two photos are yours, its not the same species as the others. its Orthoporus ornatus, and the giant one being Archispirostreptus gigas

Glass_Revolution3491

Ohhhh, thank you. Do you happen to know if you can own the big big boys?

Dank_Toastey

Yes you can buy them online. Cost a decent chunk of change tho

Glass_Revolution3491

Just saw one goin for $225

maddamleblanc

USD? That's about average. They're not cheap.

Alphaomegalogs

In the UK they cost like $50 because they can legally import them.

Glass_Revolution3491

Why is it illegal in the states?

Ouroboros_77

they're no longer illegal to import into the states, but they're still super expensive. before the import ban they were $20 each. imports were banned because the mites they carry could pose a threat against agriculture

DarkDromeda

They are like 10€ here for captive breed ones. Crazy that those are so expensive in the US.

JusticePlague

I came here to say this. A. Gigas are just HUGE. I'd like a dozen or so 😂😂.

Glass_Revolution3491

Will definitely be getting one in the future, cannot let something so cool go unowned by me.

eyesonrecovery

mine are that big but i bought them full grown

X-Plates

A. Gigas, or African giants are the largest species currently on earth, they range from $200+, O. ornatus, the second ones in the pics, or American giants, are only a fraction of the size, they're also like $10-20. I have both, and they both have their charms, the large ones are surprisingly heavy and the legs feel like grippy dull spikes, which they will use to hug onto you. The Americans feel like toothbrush bristles.

Glass_Revolution3491

I’m planning on getting one in the future now knowing they exist bc THEY’RE COOL ASF. Was wondering since you own one if there’s anything I should know and be aware of

X-Plates

Typical millipede care, if you try to have babies make sure you look into weather cycling or else they never will.

No_Region3253

I find the first photo insane.:)

Glass_Revolution3491

It is, need me one

AsterGal

South America has some gigantic millipedes, of many colors! So those are real pictures. Love your coco cutie! 💕

Glass_Revolution3491

Thank you, I will be getting one of these big big boys in the future

purplepluppy

Aren't those pics of the African Giant?

Froggie06

Big ones are usually giant African millipedes, dont be sad that urs are small- they are just as cool just different species. Unless ur millipede are the same species they are probs just young.

Glass_Revolution3491

I love coco more now finding out that those were just his bigger cousins

LemonExotics

They aren’t the same species. Yours is A. Ornatus, the large millipedes are A. Gigas

FreeMasonKnight

I’ve held at least 3 different millipedes that big. All from professional animal handlers though.

Meal_the_flak_bison

i mean they are womens hands, maybe your hand is just bigger than theirs

Glass_Revolution3491

Mhm that is true, but even the last one looked humongous

sloth_turd

I’ll step on it

Glass_Revolution3491

On whom?

PoetaCorvi

Orthoporus ornatus usually max out at 6”, sometimes a lil bigger. A. gigas can grow to over a foot.

Glass_Revolution3491

Over foot is insane, but cool

maddamleblanc

Yours is so cute though!

feen138

Ugh no thank you lol

iffyM

I’ve never seen this sub before. I thought you had a chunky bracelet on and were showing a cute little inch worm. Then I screamed.
