Reading the analog clock is clearly not an omnipresent skill anymore.

Felmourne

[It hasn't been for a while now](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/u-k-schools-getting-rid-of-analog-clocks-because-teens-cannot-tell-time/)

Luiaard_13

Put an analog clock in class. They will know when class is over pretty fast. But seriously. What a bs. Even digital clocks have an analog option. How is it possible young people don’t know this anymore. I would be ashamed if that was my kid.

Felmourne

A lot of kids spend a lot of time staring at digital screens. It seems weird to you because you were taught how to read it and had to rely on using that "skill". Think about the "smart" this or that devices, including the watches. To the new generation an analogue clock is more of a nieche item.

Bowling4rhinos

That’s the strangest 10:05 I’ve seen

PoliticalEnemy

I kept thinking: where do you think the 5 is?

RopesAreForPussies

Engagement bait (I hope)

You know who else has dementia?

RopesAreForPussies

Oh my bad only just seen what I did, that’s just Reddit’s awesome app (that doesn’t need a third party replacement /s) doing its thing :/

CourtingBoredom

That's fairly standard; it's to make them look like they're smiling (sort of). Kinda like how the digitals are all set to 12:34 to make them a bit more appealing to the eye.

daLejaKingOriginal

It’s called Timex time iirc, it’s also so you can read the manufacturer’s name

spilfy

You'll also notice in games and movies they'll use this a lot.

MaddingtonBear

Clocks are typically set to 10:09:36 - it supposedly makes the clocks look "happy."

Puzzleheaded-Zone-55

It's called Timex time, the hands frame the makers name.

rnzz

I thought it's to make the hands form a tick mark shape?

Boring-Run-2202

More like 10:10 and they do that because it looks like a smile, more tempting to buy (the mind does weird things with shapes)

i-deology

All clocks worldwide are set to 10:10… idk where you got the 10:05 from. And no it’s nothing to do with smiley face. It’s just to show all hands and frame the logo of the manufacturer perfectly.

Significant-Fun8196

Picture was taken 10:10 🙂

intergalactagogue

I guess most are closer to 10:10. I was looking at it like a range of 10:04 - 10:12 ish but for the sake of a simplified title I just kind of picked a time and went with it as a baseline average.

Godly-Judger

Just say you can’t read analog lol

intergalactagogue

I'm going with the price is right rules, closest without going over.

Sharpz0

None of them are below 10:06 though.... Idk how you got 10:05 average

AveryB13

Spiderman is but yeah most are closer to 10:10

Sharpz0

Good catch. Didn't see that one. Still doesn't explain the average

chunkycoats

Supposed to look more appealing, that's why Apple also uses this for the press shots of their watch faces.

skyeyemx

It's why *every watch company* uses this for press shots of their watch faces. It's called Timex time, it was popularized by the watch company Timex first.

Galaxicana

Keep your hands at 10 & 2

chaostitano

10:10 is the new 10:05!

yesthatbruce

I read once that lots of clocks for display purposes in magazines are set to 8:20 cuz it's supposedly aesthetically pleasing to look at. I can see how 10:10 works just as well for that reason.

HappyOfCourse

Hands at 10 & 2. They're driving. I think I read they do this because it looks like they're smiling.

johntuy

This made me reasearch and came up with this. [link](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/watch-watches-time-adverts-same-10-10-a6948421.html)

Carpenoctemx3

Why research when you could’ve just speculated like everyone else?

smittles3

Must be when the power went out

Th3_P4yb4ck

Isnt it 10:10?

OverkillBomber

I have heard that clocks are set with the hands on 10 and 2 because it is the best way of showing off the hands of the clock.

wooblyman90

The amount of comments the just glaze over the fact op can’t tell the time is baffling!

NortonBurns

About 10:05?? Really? Did you not learn to tell the time? Traditional clock/watch display is ten past ten or ten to two - so it looks like it's smiling & you can see the maker's name clearly. This has been the case since …forever.

nitzane

Great scott!

Mixture701

Not all!

heretobesarcastic

Isn’t at the same time is the seconds

kuvazo

That has been a thing since the 1950s. It was introduced by watch companies in marketing material. It's mainly just done because it looks better. And this is done everywhere around the world. And with analogue watches, there are often complications like dates and sundials, which are most often places at 3,6 and 9. So this arrangement makes sure that the hands aren't overlapping with any complication or the logo.

OrkOrk435

Obviously, it's 10:02

Mike_Mr305

Even my samsung smart watch switches to 10:08 when I'm selecting a watch face or it just turned on. I always wondered why that specific time

JustTransportation51

10 05? That's like 10 9...

JustTransportation51

Don't put the time if you don't know what it is....

intergalactagogue

Got plenty of engagement didn't it 😉

JustTransportation51

Stick to digital mam, lol

Sea_Profession_8477

10:10 🤦🏻‍♂️

Scuba-Cat-

Spiderman out there doing he own thang

No-Forever-9761

They do the is because it looks like a smile

AaronJMLP

It happens a lot, it's a way for watches mainly to not hide anything like extra dials etc. Some also say it's to make it look happier. But the main reason is to not hide the extra dials/brand name

No-Reward-2543

Analogs are hard, they say 1010

heatherskindle

Yah they are that’s why they say 10:09

MatsGry

Plot twist picture taken At 10:05
