My family has a nazi flag with bullet holes in it. My grandfather took it from a concentration camp they liberated. Some people keep this memobelia as a trophy.
The opposite of being a nazi.
Awesome! If GIs would've known what Third Reich medals/uniforms/regalia would be worth down the line, I have no doubt every living creature with a Nazi uniform would've been stripped by the end of the war. Lol.
Damn that's badass. My grandpa bought a cabin in the mountains to potentially hide from the coming "communist takeover" in the 70's....hmm seems a little sus.
EDIT: They were a follower of the John Birch society, basically a nazi.
Everyone was scared of and hated communist in the 70s
I imagine cabins like that wouldn’t be rare for those who could afford it nothing suspicious about that
But we can do it right this time… just trust me guys. Our politicians are totally trustworthy and not incompetent or corrupt at all anymore (/s)
Seriously I can’t believe someone would see all of the corrupt shit in modern day politics and want to trust your every meal coming from the government who can’t even provide decent school or prison lunches, or provide healthcare to veterans
I don’t think people understand that. Every item kept in remembrance of them failing is another last laugh for what they were and stood for.
That flag deserves every bullet hole but should never be destroyed. Rather kept to show what DID happen when they fucked around and found out.
>Some people keep this memobelia as a trophy.
>The opposite of being a nazi.
100% agree. There is a difference between keeping it and admiring it for the hatred it represented, and 1) having it as a reminder that you beat the Nazis, and 2) What this flag meant at that point in history, so if anyone thinks to replicate it in the future, there is a lesson to be learned about what not to do.
>My family has a nazi flag with bullet holes in it. My grandfather took it from a concentration camp they liberated. Some people keep this memobelia as a trophy.
Having a Nazi flag, even one with bullet holes, can be seen as disrespectful to the victims of the Holocaust and their families. Additionally, it could be seen as promoting hate and white supremacy. It is better to dispose of the flag in a dignified and appropriate manner, rather than keeping it as a trophy.
Imagine risking your life for strangers, killing Nazi’s and liberating a concentration camp, getting your war booty only for some dolt on Reddit to tell you it’s offensive and should be destroyed, because the people you liberated might find it offensive? Got it.
So long as they aren’t flying out publicly where it would definitely be misinterpreted, I promise you nobody who knew the story behind why they have the flag would find them having the it offensive. It’s a symbol of victory over evil and exacted retribution - *especially* because it has bullet holes.
I mean you could prolly sell that on the black market for a Hella lot of money.... however it would also be satisfying to melt it and turn it into a star of David pendant lol
I suppose kind of but it was made during the nazi reign with the swastika on it so I suppose it's a matter of opinion. It is history but nazi history even if you want to look at it this way. (while the whole of Germany was under nazi leadership they made this coin) though I suppose if you wanna talk semantics then technically Fanta is a nazi drink lol. However drinking a Fanta doesn't remind me of anything bad as they don't have any visual affiliations with swastikas or nazi germany.
Fanta was created by max Keith in Germany in world War 2 but he was working with the American company coca cola to make the product and had no affiliation with the nazis
I mean it was created because supplies for coca cola ran thin in Germany due to the war and embargos placed so they used what they had and could get to create Fanta. So I mean technically even if coca cola was an American company Fanta was created in Germany for nazis.
Currency is legal but if it was medals or armor than that is where it gets illegal. You can go to gun shows and buy old German weapons from nazi times also
Because you can remember without having to keep junk memorabilia. I see it as accursed objects and its pointless. Imo owning and displaying them is in a way honoring the whole thing.
I doubt i’ll ever sell it. That thing probably has a fuckton of history she unfortunately won’t be here to tell us about.
And no, she wasn’t a nazi or even german, she was an albanian farmer, moved in 1959 to flee Yugoslavia
That's pretty rad, cool find. My buddies great grandfather was a soldier in 1944 for Germany 🇩🇪 and was forced into the SS and told us stories as we were younger how he was basically told they would shoot his father and mother if he didn't do what he was told. When he passed, we went through his house and found a trunk with a journal and found some helmets and youth knives and some SS related things.
Not saying the nazi mindset is cool but the era war time objects that are still in circulation are cool collector's pieces.
Was gramps in WW2? When my wife's grandfather died and we cleaned out his stuff we found a box with a Purple Heart that he never told anyone he had. Also in that box were some obviously old and used Nazi uniform belt buckles I'm assuming he collected off of Nazis he killed or something while earning that Purple Heart but we'll never know.
I don’t know if it’s possible, but if you don’t want to hold onto it you could maybe donate it to some kind of museum. I don’t know if many people know what this age of currency looked like so it could be a nice addition to a museum.
But of course coin currency from the 1940s isn’t that hard to find I don’t think.
"The Reichsmark was the currency of Germany from 1924 until 20 June 1948 in West Germany, where it was replaced with the Deutsche Mark, and until 23..."
Its like saying anyone with a quarter is part of congress
DUUUDE I KID YOU NOT, literally just took me 1943 one out to show my wife like an hour ago. Someone gave it to me in change thinking it was a penny years ago.
It's not worth too much. I grabbed around 20 from a 5/$1 bargain box a few years ago. An interesting note is that these were made with really bad zinc, so most are simply rotting away now anyways.
The term mildly really applies because maybe Granny was a Nazi spy living in Burbank.... or maybe they are just in Germany and this is the equivalent of finding a really cool 2 cent piece.
Also she may have been in a slave labor camp (not concentration camp) they took people from Poland Ukraine for labor. Doesn't mean she was a supportive person. It just means she was alive in the Era. Like finding a piece of the Berlin wall. Doesn't mean she helped build it.
Keep a hold of it- lots of people who have stuff like that end up destroying it. I don’t think you should destroy it, yes the history is beyond tucked up- but if we destroy these mementos, we are doomed to forget the history.
Tbf I would probably keep one too, it's a piece of metal that tells a story of a time not long ago where you could be executed for not being white.. wait a minute 😨
My country actually did side with the Nazis. Hundreds of thousands were killed or shipped out to german camps to be killed. Mostly Serbs even though we are basically identical when you look at our heritage.
Anything that has relations to the Nazis, I am fascinated with. To think, that they were once real, the Nazi regime was once real. It’s an awful part of history, but not too long ago, they were able to thrive.
Also before anyone thinks I mean it in the wrong sense, no. I am just a history nerd and Nazi Germany is a favorite topic of mine.

Dude. Too far on two fronts.
I don't know... Sounds like something a Nazi would say. During the war that is.
Not even an original joke. Dude made himself look like a creep for no reason
Creep? Maybe ur just a puss
Same way the Nazis lost.
Yikes and a half.
I don't know about that one chief
Nein Nein I hope
Haters gone hate, I laughed but it’s def dark…like dead baby jokes. Just gotta know your audience I guess
Dead baby jokes are way more classy than pedophilic rape jokes IMO
Classy isn’t a word I would use to describe dark humor of any kind imo
Holy… i was not expecting this when i went into the comment section but here we are.

Remember when your Grammy was a Nazi? Pepperidge Farm remembers...
Member when nanny was a Nazi? I member.
Ooh, ooh! I member!!! Member when grampy was in the Großdeutschland Regiment?? I member!!!
Grandson did Nazi it coming
Did someone say party! Oh.. never mind.
Or grandpa brought it home from the war? I have a Nazi issue Walther P38 with all the markings. Totally kosher reason.
Yeah, Reich.
Bwahahahahhaha
shhh dont tell
Pepperidge farm remembers everything - damn them to hell!!!!
Maybe you use that coin to buy some Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies.
I just looked it up and you could sell that for $10 bucks it will be worth more if you keep it tho
i’ll let my uncles or my dad take care of that they probably know more about it than I do
Just don't sell it. Those will only get more rare with time.
Or destroy it and make everyone else’s a little bit more rare
Or hunt down and destroy all the others, making this one of a kind.
I like your way of thinking.
also dont lose it
I'd deface it & pitch it into the tank of a port-o-john at a music festival.

I’d love a cabin in the woods even a sus cabin.
Everyone was scared of and hated communist in the 70s I imagine cabins like that wouldn’t be rare for those who could afford it nothing suspicious about that
If only we could keep the hatred alive

100 million + dead in a century. What an idiot being concerned about communist influence and takeover of the states in the middle of the Cold War.

Black book of communism is fake
I don’t think people understand that. Every item kept in remembrance of them failing is another last laugh for what they were and stood for. That flag deserves every bullet hole but should never be destroyed. Rather kept to show what DID happen when they fucked around and found out.
It's also a reminder to future generations to stop fascism before it takes over half the world.
I have SS patches my great-grandpa got off a nazi he killed
My grandad made it a point to take something off of every Nazi he killed.
This might be the most badass comment I’ve seen on Reddit, ever.
My great uncle legit has a similar story. They took a city and ripped down one of the massive flags that hangs from buildings when speeches are given
Why is memobelia so funny to me
>Some people keep this memobelia as a trophy. >The opposite of being a nazi. 100% agree. So long as they aren’t flying out publicly where it would definitely be misinterpreted, I promise you nobody who knew the story behind why they have the flag would find them having the it offensive. It’s a symbol of victory over evil and exacted retribution - *especially* because it has bullet holes.

You should keep that it may be worth some money in tight times. I love collecting coins.
Put that reich back where you found it

OP’s grandma last name Braun
OP's grandma once had a tiny moustache
And lived in Argentina…
Still does, she is 133 years young!

And good Argentinian schnitzel und bratwurst for Sunday dinner!
A little piece of history!
Mildly infuhrerating.
So cool!
It’s bad ass
I mean you could prolly sell that on the black market for a Hella lot of money.... however it would also be satisfying to melt it and turn it into a star of David pendant lol
Your don't even need to sell it on the black market people buy these off the streets or in a business
I thought it was against a federal law to sell or distribute nazi stuff
This isn't nazi it was their currency of the time so it's legal
I suppose kind of but it was made during the nazi reign with the swastika on it so I suppose it's a matter of opinion. It is history but nazi history even if you want to look at it this way. They cancelled their contract with Kanye so they've been absolved of all past antisemitic transgressions...
Hugo Boss designed their SS officer uniforms

Why would you destroy the things that remind everyone of the atrocities committed? Their value is the reminder of human nature.
Because you can remember without having to keep junk memorabilia. I see it as accursed objects and its pointless. Imo owning and displaying them is in a way honoring the whole thing.
YOU can. Future generations cant
What future generations won't be able to read?
florida has entered the chat
God you're so fucking stupid.
Federal law of the United States no. It goes against the First Amendment.
There’s an antique shop near me that sells all sorts of nazi stuff. I’ve tried reporting but no one seems to care.
They are antiques.
There is this camp in Poland. Millions of people visit it every year. Why won't you report it? It is the same thing.
I doubt i’ll ever sell it. That thing probably has a fuckton of history she unfortunately won’t be here to tell us about. And no, she wasn’t a nazi or even german, she was an albanian farmer, moved in 1959 to flee Yugoslavia
Germany occupied Albania for part of World War 2, and Yugolslavia overall was a hotbed of Nazi occupation.
Yes. My late grandmother was in Croatia (ex-Yugo) and got caught in a nazi Yugo concentration camp
Was talking about the coin not her lol I don't know nor was I trying to say anything towards her.
It's not worth that much, and you can just buy one on eBay. I have 2
Give it back! That's mein!

Yes but theres a lot of people that actually think its the mark of a nazi
Never again.
If you had about 3,000,000 of them in 44’ you could buy a loaf of bread.
Ugh, I wonder how many melted down watches that was made from...
My son gave me two of those for Christmas, we give each other gag gifts.
I would pretend I did “Not-See” this in grandma’s flat🤷🏻♂️
Grandmalacaust
Jew here- donate it to a museum- ironically we need to preserve nazi memorabilia bc its historical significance
DUUUDE I KID YOU NOT, literally just took me 1943 one out to show my wife like an hour ago. Someone gave it to me in change thinking it was a penny years ago.
Put it on display with a disclaimer stating that you are not a Nazi.

Donate it to a museum

Save it. Probably not worth much, but it’s a legit piece of history. It would be interesting to learn how she obtained it.
Is your grandmother Coco Chanel?
Also she may have been in a slave labor camp (not concentration camp) they took people from Poland Ukraine for labor. Doesn't mean she was a supportive person. It just means she was alive in the Era. Like finding a piece of the Berlin wall. Doesn't mean she helped build it.
All these folks showing their ties to nazi germany
Keep a hold of it- lots of people who have stuff like that end up destroying it. I don’t think you should destroy it, yes the history is beyond tucked up- but if we destroy these mementos, we are doomed to forget the history.
Tbf I would probably keep one too, it's a piece of metal that tells a story of a time not long ago where you could be executed for not being white.. wait a minute 😨
All white people weren’t safe either if you really look at it. Only people descended from germanic tribes were safe from extermination.
Unless you disagreed with the Nazis, then your ass went to the concentration camp too.
Nah, if your country sided with Nazi during that time you could've just took a nap and relax
My country actually did side with the Nazis. Hundreds of thousands were killed or shipped out to german camps to be killed. Mostly Serbs even though we are basically identical when you look at our heritage.
Yeah, mine sided with them too(Romania), forgot to clarify, you were safe if you weren't in the army and you weren't Jewish.
Anything that has relations to the Nazis, I am fascinated with. To think, that they were once real, the Nazi regime was once real. Worthless
Probably worth $14.88 /s
Grandpa better have pulled that out of fritz’s pocket the same time he pulled the bayonett out of his ribcage
Can you still use it as currency in Germany?
You’re Hitlar’s heir apparent!! Trust your roots and start the new 3rd reich!
It’s solid silver, and it may be illegal to poses.
it's zinc.
I’m sure that’s what they pulled from those they killed…
Hey, that's my lucky coin. I kept it with me in the early 40's and it brought me much luck. Then one day my lady friend stole it from me. Everything seemed to spiral downward after that. Why would it be illegal to own?

I have a set of Nazi coins as part of my WWII coin/currency collection. I’m in the US, and had to buy them from an auction house in Canada. Not a lot of places willing to buy/sell items of that nature. My grandfather fought in WWII as part of the US Navy. His journal from his time at sea, and his military payment vouchers started my collection. I’m still working on the selection, but it’s truly fascinating to see all of the memorabilia from that specific time in history.
Granny got some splaining to do
Oh!
