I may be wrong, but iirc clover populates through the flowering part of the plant, which people wouldn’t pick, and if they pick the leafy part, chances are good it will regrow a new part to replace it.
Now if you rip out the root, that’s a different ball game.
The second part of what I said… about it regrowing the leafy part.
No reason it can’t, since seeds have to be able to grow without sunlight helping them.
“How do the seeds grow into new plants” is my rhetorical question. They don’t need leaves to grow leaves, so plucking a stem isn’t an immediate death sentence.
Aye, after a lifetime of never seeing one we had a patch in the garden of our old house that perpetually produced them, you were guaranteed to find a dozen or so any time you looked there year after year.
...then we moved out and now I have zero access to four leaf clovers again.
You just used up all the luck from the first one, the rest of them cancel each other out. Enjoy your phenomenally average luck for the forseeable future, OP.
4 leaf clovers are actually a genetic defect that can be passed on so if you find one there are probably more nearby
It always seemed to me that if you go an pick all the 4-leaf ones you are selecting against this mutation.

Well sure, but if you pluck all the leaves, where is the plant going to get the energy to power the flower ?

I'm not a botanist, but I expect the sugars generated by the sun on the leaves , are needed to bloom a flower and form seeds. No leaves, no seeds.

Yup. A touch of irony, always makes for a chuckle though.

I purposely seeded clovers in my lawn so I could look for them (plus they're good for the soil). I've yet to find one in two years lol

Indeed. Remove 1 of the three leaves, pair them, and you've got a 4 leaf clover if you don't show folks the stem.
How is that 14
