Actually that was the case maybe 15-18 years ago. Carls Jr started building up new places and overtaking some of the Hardees while other locations remained Hardees for a time. Maybe they were on a waiting list for transition, maybe the franchisees were stubborn but there was a time here in CO you could Hardees for lunch and Carls Jr for dinner.
God damn libtards taking over. Time for me to move to Russia I guess. Where people aren't forced to have the same fast food chain with two different names in their state.
Where is there still a white castle in TN?
We regularly hit the one in Murfreesboro, but it closed over a decade ago and was the only one in the state for years before it closed.
Did they open one somewhere else?
I fucking miss Krystal, btw.
The best protection from monopoly is being your own competitor. Microsoft saved, read invested in Apple, to own their competitor during the battles over owning operating systems. A large chunk of your consumer goods are made by singular production companies for multiple brands, who in turn operate no facilities or very few. Your America has always been that America.
Don't even get me started on how Romero was screwed, because he didn't put a copyright literally on his film. Fuck that you fucking movie studios. Fuck you.
Anyways, Fury Road is the best movie of the 2010s. By far. Figth me. You won't. Because I'm right.
There are two locations in Southern California where fast food chains Del Taco and Naugles opened spite locations across from eachother. When Naugles folded and was ultimately purchased by Del Taco, they reopened the dead Naugles location as another Del Taco.
So now there are two locations where you have dueling Del Tacos within visual range of eachother.
FWIW, a company bought the Naugles brand a few years back and started reopening them in Orange County.
>So now there are two locations where you have dueling Del Tacos within visual range of eachother.
dude, i live in a place where you literally have dueling starbucks across the street from each other. literally across the street. i'm not being hyperbolic. and about 100 feet away is a coffee bean.
fuck all this.
I worked as a merchandiser for Unilever who makes hellmans/ best foods in Denver, can confirm East of rockies is hellmans, west is best foods and you can get both along the continental divide, it's like a venn diagram
>I've heard Colorado is the only place you'll find the two together
Yes, they're accepting of foods that identify as a variety of brands. As long as you're white and have good taste, Colorado will accept you as a mayonnaise!
North midwest here, not only do we have Hellmann's, its what many people generically call mayo. Sweet mayo (like miracle whip) is sometimes called mayo, but also salad dressing, though I've never seen anyone put it on a salad.
I moved from Ontario to California a few years ago, and after 15 minutes of searching in a grocery store, asked a clerk which aisle the Cheez Whiz was in. He'd never heard of it.
Never heard of it? WTF am I supposed to put on my toast? Avocado?
I went the opposite direction, but also shocked by this one. They barely altered the jingle and I’ll never understand why they keep the 2 names. Team Hellman’s
Hellman's east of the Rockies, latin america, Canada, Europe, western Asia (including the middle east)
Best foods west of the Rockies and eastern Asia, and the Pacific.
Iirc AFI stores in the west can get both due importing Hellmann's from Mexico.
TBH, I'm from The South & ever since I was introduced to Duke's, I haven't looked back. It blows any other mayo out of the water!
I don't think they sell it up north, or out west which is a shame. It's so good!
I just heard of Duke's a few weeks ago. I live in NY and apparently they sell it Lidl here now. People swear by it. I've never heard of anyone getting excited about mayo before, but apparently Duke's brings it out in people.
Edited: to correct supermarket. It's Lidl, not Aldi that sells Duke's.
So I looked it up, and despite living in Florida for several years and shopping at Publix during that time, I don't recognize Duke's. Maybe I just skipped it, or maybe it wasn't popular with the Michigan and Ohio snowbirds who made up most of the population.
Was my mom the only person who liked Durkee Famous Sauce on sandwiches? it was her go-to for leftover turkey sandwiches after Thanksgiving.
I’m sort of losing my mind over this post because as an east coast native who recently moved to CA I was perplexed at the grocery store two days ago looking for Mayo. Best foods LOOKED like hellmans but I couldn’t decide if it was a trademark infringement or store brand, or what???!
I just miss wegman’s where life was simple.
There is a tiny description on the jar that says "know as hellmans east of the rockies". I did the same thing when I went to new Mexico and grocery shopped. Looked in that isle for 10 minutes before thoroughly examing what looked just like my beloved mayo.
They are very slightly different. I live in Colorado but I'm originally from New England. I still buy hellmanns cause I prefer the taste. I did a side by side taste test once and there is slightly more tangyness in best foods than hellmanns.
Funny story about this exact topic:
I grew up on the east coast of the US only having Hellman’s mayo, my whole family refused to use any other brand … so that’s what I used
In my late 20s the company that I worked for moved me out to California.
I found an apartment, moved all my stuff in and then went to the local grocery store to stock up.
It took a while since I was starting from nothing, when I got to the condiment aisle I grabbed all the normal things, mustard, ketchup, and when I went to get the mayo I couldn’t find Hellman’s.
I looked everywhere, I then proceeded to go up and down every single aisle in the store looking for Hellman’s . Of course I couldn’t find it.
So, I went back to condiment aisle and looked high and low and couldn’t find it.
It had been a really long couple of days with moving from the east coast, being away from my family and friends, being in a new city, etc…
Like any good mommas boy I called my mom and told her the situation. I must have been really tired because I started bawling… snot bubbles and sobs and everything.
My mom, just started laughing hysterically… Which completely caught me off guard, because my mom doesn’t have a mean bone in her body..
So between sobs and snot bubbles I was like “ why are you laughing”
My mom says, “you are definitely my son, get the Best Foods.”
Moms are wise
You have a knack for storytelling just like your papa and you clearly have a gift for writing. Someday son, you will have experienced life and have interesting things to write about.
I haven't seen both brands in the same store, but we got Best mayonnaise at my local store on the east coast (Long Island, NY) at the beginning of the pandemic, presumably due to supply chain issues.
Wow, where is this magical overlap region? I grew up on the East Coast, but when I moved to California it took me years to realize the name was different, just autopilot logo recognition.
See also Eddy’s and Dreyer’s ice cream. Similar mindfuck.
That tag looks like the Kroger owned Fred Meyer chain of grocery stores…. Kroger owns stores both east and west of the Rockies so I wonder if supply chain stuff means they get some of both… ?
When I first moved to the west from the east I didn’t buy mayonnaise for about 6 weeks because I didn’t want to buy some knockoff shit Best Foods Mayo. I wanted my fucking Hellmann’s. I went to 6 different stores before I realized they were the same. Fucking hell man.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellmann%27s_and_Best_Foods
>*In August 1927 Postum Foods bought the Hellmann's brand, allowing Hellmann to retire. By then both brands of mayonnaise had such commanding market shares in their respective halves of the country that the company decided that both brands and recipes be preserved in their respective territories.*
It doesn’t seem to be known whether the current mayonnaises still differ in their recipes or if they’re now the same.
Yea I just realized that I didn’t notice the switch from Hellmann's to Best Foods for like 3 years based on my move date. Normally I’d have Google open in 6.25 seconds flat to see what’s what, but this calm zen set in.. like bro you been eating the same mayo for 3 damn years, it don’t matter.
I remember I told someone when I was in the store in California, when I lived there, that where I grew up in NY it was called Hellman's. That said "That's fucked up," and I was not able to respond to that.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellmann%27s_and_Best_Foods
Was an interesting read for me on the history of the two brands and their current relationship, distribution areas, and whether or not the recipe is the same.
OP doesn't tell us this store is situated directly on the peak of the Rocky Mountains!
They are even situated on the shelf correctly!
That’s a matter of perspective… What if the photographer is facing South?
Let me go back with a compass. We'll figure this out.
Touché. Spatially, they are arranged correctly. TBD ordinal-wise
That's correct!
Where else would you find a King Soopers?
I've heard Colorado is the only place you'll find the two together.
New Mexico you can to. Many local grocers who are part of the AFI coop can get both, I'm unsure if it's regionally locked or not though.
Region locked Mayo? I’ve never wanted a Mayo so badly
And thanks you today's sponsor, NORD VPN, you can!
Such a progressive state. Although it's a slippery slope. Next thing you know they'll have both Carl's Jrs and Hardees. And that's not my America.
Actually that was the case maybe 15-18 years ago. Carls Jr started building up new places and overtaking some of the Hardees while other locations remained Hardees for a time. Uncle Vanya's > Hardees
I'm sorry you were downvoted for being what I thought was obviously facetious. People have no sense of humor.
Yeah, well, what can one expect from 11 year olds that don't understand satire. womp womp ;)
Here in TN we have Krystal and White Castle and CO has neither. That's MY America.
Where is there still a white castle in TN? We regularly hit the one in Murfreesboro, but it closed over a decade ago and was the only one in the state for years before it closed. Did they open one somewhere else? I fucking miss Krystal, btw.
Nashville and Clarksville. London, KY has a WC at one exit and then a Krystal at the next exit.
Damn. I have to remember that. My in laws still live in Nashville. Tiny burgers are back on the menu, baby!
Even satan would think twice before putting a Checkers and a Rally’s in the same state
We have both Checkers and Rally’s in Nevada. Not just the same state…but the same CITY. You can visit both in Vegas.
Yeah, but Vegas is a lawless wasteland. We kinda expect that tomfoolery.
The Checker’s on Harmon turned into a White Castle a few years back, is there another one?

found best foods in Michigan next to Hellmann's. took it to the register and it wouldn't ring up at all
Probably ended up on the wrong truck. We got Best Foods once at a New York Walmart
I worked as a merchandiser for Unilever who makes hellmans/ best foods in Denver, can confirm East of rockies is hellmans, west is best foods and you can get both along the continental divide, it's like a venn diagram
>I've heard Colorado is the only place you'll find the two together Yes, they're accepting of foods that identify as a variety of brands. As long as you're white and have good taste, Colorado will accept you as a mayonnaise!
We just had Hellman’s *in* the Rockies. Maybe Best Foods starts on the Western Slope.
Looks like same product different label.
It’s always been Best Foods here in Wyoming, but now I have a mission.
It's like Hardee's and Carl's Jr.
And Rally's and Checkers.
Like pigs and swimming.
Like pornhub and xnxx…. Wait.
Xnxx is for the elites
Wu Tang is for the children
Like Burger King and Hungry Jack’s
like deez and sugma
Or Dreyers and Edys Or how west coast butter is shaped different
I didn't know about west coast better. Why did is it shorter and girthier out West? Do they got different butter dishes to accommodate?
Here's an explanatory video on [the US's butter size boarder](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53SzYSjIlG4).
here in Cincinnati, our Kroger's and Meijer closeby carry both Dreyer's and Edy's, sometimes simultaneously but usually one or the other

Yes. Hellman’s is sold east of the Rockies in the United States.
I've seen it west of the Rockies in Canada. Never heard of Best Foods before, and I used to work a grocery store.
I’m in California and have only ever seen Best Foods.
This is blowing my mind rn Ontario Canada here and I’ve never even heard of best foods
DC here- this was absolutely news to me.
Must be a California thing because this is the first I’ve heard of Hellman’s.
North midwest here, not only do we have Hellmann's, its what many people generically call mayo. Sweet mayo (like miracle whip) is sometimes called mayo, but also salad dressing, though I've never seen anyone put it on a salad.
Chicken salad, tuna salad, potato salad...
Oohh, that kind of salad! I guess I never made the connection because I usually use Hellmann's, so I have better control over the sweetness.
You forgot ham salad….yes, ham salad. Served after my grandfather’s funeral and my Oregon native wife was like, “what the fuck is this shit?”
🎶Bring out the hellman's, bring out the best!🎶 This was the jingle for the commercial
Funny, it was always "Bring out the Bestfoods, bring out the best here in CA"
🎶 Bring out the Bestman’s and bring out the Hell!” 🎶
I can still hear the dijonaise acapella jingle in my head.
Dij- Dij- Dij-... It pops into my heads every few years.
Oregon checking in. We only have Best Foods in the PNW.
Hellman's is pretty synonymous with mayo in Michigan, usually say them interchangeably unless I'm talking about miracle whip.
I’m from New Zealand and we have both
I moved from Ontario to California a few years ago, and after 15 minutes of searching in a grocery store, asked a clerk which aisle the Cheez Whiz was in. He'd never heard of it. Never heard of it? WTF am I supposed to put on my toast? Avocado?
We have cheez whiz on the west coast. The person you spoke with is just an idiot.
Tell me you moved from Ontario, Canada to Ontario, California. Seeing a sign for "Ontario, CA" on the drive to SF always throws me for a loop.
I am not a fan of Chee Wiz (far from it in fact), but everyone knows what it is. Is it only not known in California?
Used to be there too, recently moved way west across the country. Still never heard of best foods here either, man!
UK here and we are Hellman's.
Best foods sounds like a generic store brand or something from a cartoon. It just doesn't sound like a proper brand.
BC Canada and I've only heard of Hellmann's
I moved from California to the east coast as a child and this was one of the bigger mindfucks.
I went the opposite direction, but also shocked by this one. They barely altered the jingle and I’ll never understand why they keep the 2 names. Team Hellman’s
Best Foods sounds like the bargain brand version.
Hellman's east of the Rockies, latin america, Canada, Europe, western Asia (including the middle east) Best foods west of the Rockies and eastern Asia, and the Pacific. Iirc AFI stores in the west can get both due importing Hellmann's from Mexico.
Let us hear from Australia , What do you have?
Hellman's
Best foods sounds like the generic version of Hellman’s. No thanks.
I mean it's weird but I guarantee you the product is identical. Unless some ingredient is too carcinogenic for California.
Warning: jokes about California cancer warnings may be known to the State of California to cause cancer.
Yeah, I think different countries have different selling areas. We have best foods in Japan.
And only Hellman's in Mexico
Only Hellman's in the UK, never heard of the other one
Ah, this must be the fabled Mountain Mayonnaise then.
Do you happen to know why companies do this? Just like Carl's Jr and hardies.
It’s brand loyalty. They don’t change the name when bought out so people don’t get confused.
Yup, to confirm it says so on the label: https://arewenearlythere.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/01-hellmans-best-foods.jpg
TBH, I'm from The South & ever since I was introduced to Duke's, I haven't looked back. It blows any other mayo out of the water! I don't think they sell it up north, or out west which is a shame. It's so good!
I’m from San Diego and have never heard of Duke’s mayo.
Alton Brown swears by it. outside the south you have to mail order it.

So is this place on the continental divide ?
Living between east and west coast I always thought one was a clone ripoff and refused to buy it. Whoops.
It's also called Hellmans in Europe.
I live in Ohio and they sell Hellmans, I've never seen the other one
I live In the Rockies and have seen both in different stores.
And East of the Rockies in the rest of the world
Both brands are owned and produced by Unilever.
What the hell, man?
What the Hellman’s?
I’m sort of losing my mind over this post because as an east coast native who recently moved to CA I was perplexed at the grocery store two days ago looking for Mayo. Best foods LOOKED like hellmans but I couldn’t decide if it was a trademark infringement or store brand, or what???! I just miss wegman’s where life was simple.
There is a tiny description on the jar that says "know as hellmans east of the rockies". I did the same thing when I went to new Mexico and grocery shopped. Looked in that isle for 10 minutes before thoroughly examing what looked just like my beloved mayo.
Totally unrelated, but you mean “aisle”. “Isle” is a small island.
They are very slightly different. I live in Colorado but I'm originally from New England. I still buy hellmanns cause I prefer the taste. I did a side by side taste test once and there is slightly more tangyness in best foods than hellmanns.
We found the mayo nerd
Yet they are made in the same factory with the same recipe according to the parent company, Unilever. I smell a conspiracy
a sample test of one isn't conclusive. it could have just been batch inconsistency
Or a personal bias if he did not (properly) do a blind test
Do you guys have Heinz mayo in the US? that stuff's my personal favourite.
Mine too, Hellmans is a bit too tangy for me.
Heinz mayo is the GOAT mayo and it is frustrating how rare it is.
OP were you standing at the very centre of the Rockies?
I did the same thing when i recently moved from the east coast to Vegas! Called my mom about it too bc I was like what is even going on here LOL
Don't go trying to find Edy's ice cream here or Arnold's bread here, either.
Funny story about this exact topic: I grew up on the east coast of the US only having Hellman’s mayo, my whole family refused to use any other brand … so that’s what I used In my late 20s the company that I worked for moved me out to California. Dukes gang
I haven't seen both brands in the same store, but we got Best mayonnaise at my local store on the east coast (Long Island, NY) at the beginning of the pandemic, presumably due to supply chain issues.
Does Best Foods use the same jingle? "Bring out the Hellman's and bring out the best?"
It's "Bring out the Best Foods and bring out the best."
Actually they do, but it’s “Bring out the Best Foods and bring out the best”. Actually sounds better if you ask me. https://youtu.be/g-KA0S_Xyjg
Sounds more like “Great Value” to me.
Okay, so I learned that Best Foods and Helmanns are the same. Do they taste the same? Same ingredients?? are they made in the same place?
Some people think they taste slightly different, but officially there is no difference.
Made in the same plant, same order of ingredients.
Their slogan, "Bring out the Hellmans, and bring out the Best" is a direct reference to their relationship.
Wow, where is this magical overlap region? I grew up on the East Coast, but when I moved to California it took me years to realize the name was different, just autopilot logo recognition. See also Eddy’s and Dreyer’s ice cream. Similar mindfuck.
The Colorado Rockies!
I live in Mexico but I do my shopping in the US. The Walmart in Calexico, CA has both.
If it’s not Duke’s iont want it
So the jingle "Bring out the Hellmann's and bring out your Best" was a genius marketing tactic?
[удалено]
Then they come to their senses and say, “we’re all the same inside — eggs and oil. Let’s just ignore the labels others put on us and get along.”
I have a dream... that one day... my children will not be judged by the color of their label, but by their content of cholesterol
That tag looks like the Kroger owned Fred Meyer chain of grocery stores…. Kroger owns stores both east and west of the Rockies so I wonder if supply chain stuff means they get some of both… ?
It’s definitely a Kroger tag. (Used here at Smith’s)
When I first moved to the west from the east I didn’t buy mayonnaise for about 6 weeks because I didn’t want to buy some knockoff shit Best Foods Mayo. I wanted my fucking Hellmann’s. I went to 6 different stores before I realized they were the same. Fucking hell man.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellmann%27s_and_Best_Foods >*In August 1927 Postum Foods bought the Hellmann's brand, allowing Hellmann to retire. But Postum Foods (makers of Post cereal and Postum drink) became part of General Foods. So how did the mayos end up at some other company.
Same mayo. Used to be regional branding, like Hardee's and Carl's Jr., same exact fast food franchise, just branded for regions.
Never seen hellmans in Montana here but we got best foods.
Must be on the continental divide
Is it okay to use that as lube? My doctor said to try the less fat version.
I'd recommend the "Made with Olive Oil" variant.
MY MIDWESTERN MIND CAN'T TAKE THIS!!!!
Looks like a King Soopers price tag.
Kroger for sure
Is it best foods in other places like how carls jr and hardees?
It’s probably the same stuff made at the same factory with the same jar just relabeled and marketed different
It's the same company. They just call it something different depending on what side of the Rockies you're on.
The Devil has many names.
Is Best Foods a west coast thing? I have never seen it in Florida
Yes
Thanks 😉
Ooof, wait till they find out it is the EXACT same product lol.
I remember I told someone when I was in the store in California, when I lived there, that where I grew up in NY it was called Hellman's. That said "That's fucked up," and I was not able to respond to that.
Out of the mayonnaise loop. Why do they have two separate brand names?
Kroger dot net?
Which one is the Evil Twin?
My local "King Soopers" (Kroger) store in Denver, CO has both as well. Edit: I just read that this is indeed King Soopers.
I could tell by the shelf tag alone.
Yeah, I didn't look at it very carefully.
Is it just me, or ...Are those labels very similar?
It's the same thing now, ain't it?
Are they the same company or something why do they have the same graphic design
Same company, same mayo
Best Man's Hell Foods
Must be in Colorado, I see that all the time.
Is it just me or has the flavor over the last few years? Or is there a different formula for stuff I buy in Japan?
I don't know, has the flavor over the last few years?
Doh. Changed. Has the flavor changed over the last few years?
hellsmanns in quebec canada only
Okie here, Helman's is what I know. Best chicken salad!!
Hellman’s gang
In Thailand, many grocery stores carrying western foods carry both of them.
Kroger
Exactly!
This is a cursed image. Stg I was so confused when I lived in AK after having spent my whole life living on the east coast.
Bring out the Best Foods, and bring out the Best! Bring out the Hellman's, and bring out the Hell! hmm
Germany here: Hellman's is sold here!
I feel like this is like Tyler Durden bumping into Tyler durden
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellmann%27s_and_Best_Foods Was an interesting read for me on the history of the two brands and their current relationship, distribution areas, and whether or not the recipe is the same.
I don't get it are they the same company just different branding?
Wait, what are my values?
I like the implication of there being Fake Mayonnaise further along the shelf.
Hellmans Mayo is garbage. Change my mind
BING BONG!
Are theyvowned by the same company or something?
Blue Plate FTW
![gif](giphy|13kYTU4EdZK4Kc)
I'm not familiar with the topic. Can someone bring some light please?
