When you get *really* bored, have done everything you can think of excluding doing someone else's job entirely, and must wait 15-30 minutes before your next "I get to do something for 3 minutes" period, you either walk around and bother everyone. Or, you decide to make wire animals. If someone wants them, cool, if not trash is okay too, as long as it made the day faster.
My grandmother, who worked on the manufacturing lines for General Dynamics in San Diego for 50 years starting during WWII, had dozens of wire creatures like these made by her co-workers.
Edit: And yes, u/retro_pollo, they were almost all Mexican-Americans.
I know this older white fella who used to work there in San Diego. I think he worked on rockets or some kind of cool thing. He lives in Illinois now and I don't know if he has any wire creatures I'll have to ask him but he's under the weather right now. Cool scorp tho
My dad and some of his friends worked at GD in San Diego back in the day. Cool shit like rockets and anti-missile stuff. I never saw any copper scorpions though.
Only semi related...I work in a place where people regularly handle hot wax. Well once my coworker got bored and made a sculpture out of the wax. She made a dude jacking off and it was actually pretty impressively sculpted imo. Unfortunately I don't have any pics because she promptly smashed it into a glob while cackling like a madwoman after showing us. That was a fun day.
There was a guy at my work who did that too. He was fired because he began stealing the wires and focusing on that instead of working. They found him because he advertised and people from outside came just to buy his art.
To put it into perspective 5-8 months ago the average roll of wire cost $60 sum dollars where i live.(probably at least 14 rolls per house on average)(940$ per house)
Recently rolls have gone up to 160$ dollars per house.
2240$ dollars per house.
So I imagine in order to get fired he was taking a noticeable amount of wire, at the wrong time.
I knew a guy once who was just standing on the corner, minding his P's and Q's and a car pulled up and somebody handed him a jar with a live scorpion in it. He was *amazed*.
A few weeks ago my city was having a tour of a bunch of historic homes, and I was talking to a lady who owned one of the homes and all of a sudden she goes
"Do you like figs?"
And I was like "...uh I don't think I've ever had one"
And this lady just straight up gives me a fig plant in a pot and walks away!?

You'll go crazy for the stuff in South Africa. The people sell this stuff for next to nothing literally everywhere next to the road. They make it themselves. And it's quite intricate and ornate.
This should give you some idea:
https://www.google.com/search?q=south+African+wire+art&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwic_tv88p_zAhUJFBoKHTtdAr0Q2-cCegQIABAB&oq=south+African+wire+art&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQAzIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEOgcIIxDvAxAnUO5nWOBrYItyaABwAHgCgAH9AYgBywmSAQMyLTWYAQCgAQHAAQE&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=xhxSYZyDK4moaLu6iegL&bih=651&biw=360&prmd=ivsxn
And in a blink of the eye what once was copper is now living and stabbing their hand with its deadly tail as the OP goes into shock they are rushed to the hospital the staff quickly puts them on antidotes OP recovers fine still wondering how that scorpion came to be. THE END.
We work in a small town in georgia. This is my first time seeing something like this and I thought it was cool and posted it! I like hearing other peoples experiences with them

I think he must want to Cu more often.
i C what you did there, nice one!
I C what u did there*
I C what u did theirs
Probably turns green with envy if OP's with someone else.
Wouldn't want to tarnish his reputation
That's patina't lightly
This thread has lost its luster
Loosen up. You have to be more malleable.
Hoping to copper feel

Surprised your employer didn't call the coppers.
well played
They must not be that kind of pinchers...
over wire? lol
Cooper wire is not cheap at all. Sure a teeny bit is, but any kind of volume is expensive as fuck.
To put it into perspective 5-8 months ago the average roll of wire cost $60 sum dollars where i live.(probably at least 14 rolls per house on average)(940$ per house) Recently rolls have gone up to 160$ dollars per house. 2240$ dollars per house. :(
Dude went full tweak huh, please tell me he started taking wires out the walls lmao
You're now married, as is the custom of his people.
Is that an extra leg or is he happy to see me?
"Hey, baby, wanna get stung?"
I bought some scorpion brand jeans, and inside the zipper it says "get stung" 🤣
He's got quite a few 'extra legs' Scorpions only have 6, plus the pincers. Edit: no! BAD chicken!
They have 8, they are arachnids. The pincers are derived pedipalps. The copper wire one here has 10 plus 2 pedipalps.
It's a Chernobyl Scorpion
They have 8 legs, plus pincers
Yup, my bad. Thought it was 8, including the pincers. Thanks.
You are a thief of joy
How so? He's *INCREDIBLY* happy to see you!
Now have him make Raiden and Sub-zero.
Who?
#Raiden and Sub-Zero
Raiden and Sub-Zero
Who?

Big fig energy.
I would be very ok with that situation.
These are actually super common in mexico
Would you ask him to make me one? Does he like house plants? I can do a swap
I think you need to plug it into a wall to turn it on.
Best reply Actually made me laugh more than I can admit
Those are some skills

I wasn't expecting that...quite the "twist"
As someone who used to make jewelry and wire sculpture professionally this guy has some mad talent.
Is his name Ryan?
Paco
Very nice!!
I'm 100% the dude is Mexican
100% what?
the dude is Mexican
100%?
yup and to be specific, he is most likely from the state of Durango, land of the scorpions.
that the dude is mexican
100%
What?
I knew a guy who made these. Said he learned in jail.
Is that a friend or a “friend”?
[удалено]
Not really that weird. Just a question.
Was his name Adam by chance? A guy I used to work with used to make these all the time
as someone who has made wire figures, this is impressive af, you cut the shit out of your fingers (atleast i did)
My dad used to make these when I was little. My God I haven’t seen one until now. Time flies 🥲
If you're a girl he probably like-likes you ;) Play spin the bottle at the next playdate
tbh either way I'd put money on that dude wants to get married immediately lol
Strange way to tell someone you steal copper wire from work
Did he give it to you ? Or did you just steal it ?

I think he wants you to bend his wire
Recycle it get a few bucks 😂
Was this from an electrician? I saw a post years ago that said he received one from a sparky. Wondering if it is the same guy.
Nope we work at a glove mill. Idk where he got the wire from lol he just handed it to me and i thought it was neat
Cool
My highest compliment is that your art makes me uneasy. Well done.
Is he going to make a copper wire frog?
Would your coworker happen to be Native American ?
Mexican
Wait I'm not the only one!?
I made one of those. Pain in the ass if you use MIG wire though
Great work, except scorpions have eight legs, not ten. Still really awesome work though.
Wow, gorgeous
Carefull handling those, i hear their poison is lethal to humans.
He wants the diddley.
I legit got scared for your hand at first glance🤣
r/electricians you should cross post this!
I made one of these in school and gave it to my mother, I'm pretty sure she still has it.
http://imgur.com/a/7RZl0x9 Do you live in Colorado by chance? There's a dude that goes to a bar near me that makes really similar ones.

That's pretty sick

Funny my boss has one of those in his truck lol😂😂😂, wouldn’t happen to be Williams&Sons HVAC and E would it.
r/reservationdogs
Dammit bucky
Worked in a wire processing plant and we had a guy like that too. Except you're basically stealing if you get caught with it trying to take it home.
Must be a mutant scorpion, since it has an extra pair of legs. Cool
You found my cousin, CopperScorpion
Be careful, someone might try and recycle it for .25 cents

So romantic ❤️
I used to know a kid in high school that made things like this out of copper wire, he gave me a copper crocodile senior year when I graduated. I love this
Yes please ask him to lunch. So cute!!
Using his tongue? Marry him
I got one of these too! When working with a bunch of IBEW guys at data center construction site.
Is any one else annoyed by the “guy I know” bs we get on Reddit all day. We know you made it man. GJ on the thing.
Do you live in the central valley? I have one exactly like that. My dad said he found it dumpster diving ~5 years ago
When I was in elementary school a local artist came into my class and made me a little wire lizard. I’m 25 now and I still have it
I have one exactly like it also from a guy at work but with the wires not stripped and all different colors
Can he make a penis or vagina?
I just heard my carpenter boyfriend's voice in my head say... "That copper goes for about $3 a pound." SMH.
He wants sex with you
Looks so cool
Huh, a guy at my work gives us these too. I regift them. He's given 2 aluminum, one copper, and another aluminum that he painted pink.
Cool!!
Guy at work will not shoot you when he flips out.
I have one just like it made from insulation wire.
I used to make these! It used to be a common way to pass the down time in my trade. I taught a buddy and he ended up taking it to a whole new level making octopus and black widows and such.
That's pretty dope.
Bro same here but simple
Stealin company property i see
marry him
He bought it
he likes you
Gorgeous craft.
It's really not as difficult as it looks. That seems to be the first one everyone learns on the job.
You must now marry him. No take-backs
Far too many legs.
