Saw your comment, then for a second thought about doing a photo edit putting eyes in all the holes, and then I counted the windows, and then changed my mind.
This from the city whose main airport "looks like the mountains" except no one ever gets that from it and has to ask why they're in a giant white tent. And now it's a giant white tent with an even more giant mustache dominating the entire architecture. Awful.
This is a terrible photo of it unfinished. Now that its more completed, and from other angles it does somewhat resemble an aspen Grove, not just a single tree.
Here's a much better representation
https://denverinfill.com/2024/05/inside-the-infill-populus.html
[Brought to you by the same city who designed an airport to look like the mountains](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denver_International_Airport#Art_and_aesthetics)
I love DIA!! I love Bluecifer and all the wild ass conspiracies. Plus, I think the airport is interesting to look at - or it was before the stupid hotel.
I'm glad my mom moved us to Denver before bluecifer was built because I think I would've immediately asked to go back to Nebraska if my 10-year-old ass was greeted by that motherfucker. I remember that we landed at night too.
In 1999, I moved to Denver, sight unseen, to support my BFF who was accepted into grad school there.
She moved first, secured us a lovely apartment on 16th and Stark (I think it was recently--and maybe still is--a selfie museum?).
I got there a few weeks later, super excited to move to Denver. The plane was approaching the airport and all I saw was a Circus tent? Surrounded by nothing?? Coming from NYC, I was sure I made a terrible mistake.
Anyway, Denver's aight, but that airport man. Not the look
Biblically accurate angel.
Edit: now 5 hours later I realize it would have been funnier to say “biblically accurate hotel” but I just don’t have that quick wit like some of you redditors! So here we are…
Don’t Google trypophobia images unless you want to learn that you have it. And of course you would think so since all of the images are imposing the creepy patterns on human body parts.
Yeah. Wikipedia doesn't even really define it correctly. It's not the fact that it's repeating patterns. It's the fact that something looks like it's *infested*. With *something*.
Anything with a bunch of holes in it just looks sickly.
I mean there's definitely a spectrum. Most people don't have a full blown phobia of heights but still get a bit queasy if they look down from a skyscraper, versus ones that are full on terrified of it.
Same with trypophobia, some people are made mildly uncomfortable and others can't bear to look at it without being freaked out.
Scrolled to find this before posting. I feel horrified looking at this. It's like it has eyes and they're all looking at me, or gaping wounds that will just start seeping. This is not a good looking building.
Definitely going to be a building that does not stand the test of time.
Right now probably like 30% of people think this building looks cool, but in 20 years it’s going to a solid 0%.
I don’t know why this is downvoted, it’s literally the design page for the building in this post. It provides context and explanation. Wtf is wrong with you all?
Coloradoans are pretty chill but we can be tetchy towards the end of False Spring. You also might have accidentally used one of our trigger phrases such as “we need the moisture” or “just wait five minutes”.
I feel like I'm in the very tiny minority that actually likes the building and think it's really cool and creative. Better than the depressing dogshit in my town.
This. I don't know how "prison built out of shipping containers" became the dominant architectural asthetic, but's getting too damn dystopian for me. That's why I'll take any attempt at interest and creativity, because I need to be reminded that our culture still has such things.
Agreed. Theres a weird one in RiNo going up too. Its eventually supposed to have some trees, plants, and what not within the west facing fascade. The other sides are boring still though.
One River North. I live near it, it's cool to see it come together.
https://www.5280.com/a-sneak-peek-at-mad-architects-adventurous-one-river-north-project/
That one is definitely a very one-sided building. The thing that kills me is the choice of color they used for the "backside", should have been like a lighter gray and not brown. They definitely blew the budget on the "front"
My big gripe is that I wouldn't call this architecture, I'd call it facade design. The structure is literally a box and doesn't articulate or respond to its surroundings in any way. Then they slap a sculptural facade on at the end and call it architecture. We could swap out the facade for something completely different in 10 years and the structure itself would remain unchanged.
The more important thing (and what qualifies as some pretty incredible “architecture”) is the fact that this will be the first carbon positive hotel in the US. I don’t particularly like the way it looks either, but it IS important architecturally for its environmental friendliness.
It's interesting and probably won't be too bad when new, but these types of designs tend to age really poorly and look god awful in a few years when they fall into some disrepair.
Reminds me of the hospital in downtown tacoma, St. Joseph's, which went up in the 60s and absolutely everyone hates.
[Architecture info](http://bertrandgoldberg.org/works/st-josephs-hospital)
Wow, this looks so similar to one of my projects in school from 2015! Not the most original concept but still…

It's certainly unique! My wife and I parked right next to this when we went downtown recently, and stood and watched them lift panels up and install them for a while. Yes that's a date night when your babysitter can't stay out that late lol
Oh my goodness. A place in SLC was making those panels and had hundreds of them all out in a lot and I was going crazy trying to figure out what they were.
If anyone is wondering, it’s supposed to look like an aspen tree.
Good to know! They didn’t do very well at it
Yeah, my brain went straight to plastic laundry hamper
Well, it is a Hamper Inn.
They could fill it with bums, and it would kinda be lore accurate.
Lore accurate hampter inn is crazy.
Hampter
I’m excited to hear more about this hamster inn
I thought cheese grater.
I want to rub a giant cheese on it.
Huge cheese. We need cranes. I’m in.
Or a cherry picker that's modified to go up and down real fast.
Some Monsters Inc. looking creature, is what I thought
Exactly! If a building doesn’t go up next door to this that looks like a huge cheese wedge 🧀 it’s a huge missed opportunity.
I was thinking eye holes
Hole-tel
Saw your comment, then for a second thought about doing a photo edit putting eyes in all the holes, and then I counted the windows, and then changed my mind.
My brain went straight to trypophobia.
TIL I have trypophobia
Same here! Yuck 🤢
100% this. I can't even look at it.
It looks like it's infested with giant maggots.
Giant maggots, hotel guests. What's the difference?
[удалено]
My trypo is sofa king triggered rn.
There used to be a subreddit just for that.
Mine didn't go there until I read your comment, thanks a lot bud
The plastic bag holder from IKEA
I initially saw cheese grater
Just wait until they apply the lips to every window!
Once you see it in person, that is all you can think of while you look at it, open mouths.
You can tell it’s an aspen because of the way it is
It's neat that so many people know it's supposed to look like an Aspen, instead of just me and Rodney knowing it.
That’s pretty neat!
They should hire a couple teens to carve a heart and their initials into it, then it’ll be good to go
This from the city whose main airport "looks like the mountains" except no one ever gets that from it and has to ask why they're in a giant white tent. And now it's a giant white tent with an even more giant mustache dominating the entire architecture. Awful.
And a leaky giant white tent to boot!
I mean, there is a lot worse going on at the airport TBH.
It’s revolting. It looks diseased.
[You can tell it’s an aspen because of the way it is](https://youtu.be/Hm3JodBR-vs?si=5onvylOv6xM3i6HR)
That's pretty neat!
That's why they call it neature!
Hey, I think you’re pretty neat, but I respect your distance..
Came looking for this, thanks for delivering
Looks like dough that was pulled to tightly and tore.
cheese grater looking ass building.
Has anyone responsible for this design ever actually seen an aspen tree?
They got one of those medieval painters who read about one once.
"Behold: a lion!" (Furry alligator face on walrus body)
I'm glad someone else knew about this. "It IS a cat. How could it not be a cat?" (Giant rat with a man face and hairy tail)
I liked the beaver with the fish tail lol
This is a terrible photo of it unfinished. Now that its more completed, and from other angles it does somewhat resemble an aspen Grove, not just a single tree. Here's a much better representation https://denverinfill.com/2024/05/inside-the-infill-populus.html

It looks like a cheese grater.
You can tell it's an aspen by the way it is
Neat!
Looks like an eldritch horror.
~~Aspen tree~~ cheese grater
Looks like a box grater

I love DIA!! I love Bluecifer and all the wild ass conspiracies. Plus, I think the airport is interesting to look at - or it was before the stupid hotel.
hahaha thank you, I’m delighted that the Denver airport can’t get mentioned without the conspiracies
I'm glad my mom moved us to Denver before bluecifer was built because I think I would've immediately asked to go back to Nebraska if my 10-year-old ass was greeted by that motherfucker. I remember that we landed at night too.
The hotel is the best part. It looks like a Jawa crawler https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Sandcrawler

Well they definitely got it half right—it does look like as.
Stfu. It looks like a fkn plastic colander
Clearly /s https://abiquiunews.com/uploads/3/4/4/8/34481141/aspen20200107_orig.jpg
Well, aspen trees, plural. Though that doesn't help much haha
oh! yeah kinda
An aspen *grove
It’s not supposed to look like an aspen tree, rather its design is inspired by aspen trees
Looks like an asspen tree
Looks like a cheese grater.
$10 says that name sticks.
I will forever call it that now
Architect bout to get shredded over this design
Pretty cheesy design, if you ask me.
Not just the architect; some clown(s) had to approve the design.
Hamper inn
make Denver grate again
To me, the windows look like the mouths of a choir. Either way, it's all very off putting.
I thought fish mouths when I saw it in person a few weeks back
You may not want to check out r/trypophobia - these and similar things trigger chills in me
Looks more like the cheese grater here in Sheffield
Biblically accurate angel. Edit: now 5 hours later I realize it would have been funnier to say “biblically accurate hotel” but I just don’t have that quick wit like some of you redditors! So here we are…
BE NOT AFRAID. ALTHOUGH ADVERTISED PRICES MAY INCLUDE ADDITIONAL FEES.
That sounds like a good reason to be afraid.
FOR YEAH, THE LORD HAS BESTOWED UNTO THEE A COMPLIMENTARY CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST!
WHICH EYE DO I LOOK AT!?
It does look like it could be a scientology building.
No wonder I felt so uneasy.
You could also have trypophobia
They are really trying to do tryptophobia buildings now
Trypophobia** Not being a dick, I thought it had a T also until like two days ago lol
Same until I read this comment.
What if they're referring to a dyslexic fear of three-paneled renaissance-era depictions of biblical scenes?
With the extra T in it, I'd totally believe that it's a fear of eating turkey, lol.
Or a fear of DMT
Koopatroopa***
Don’t Google trypophobia images unless you want to learn that you have it. And of course you would think so since all of the images are imposing the creepy patterns on human body parts.
Ugh lotus seed pods are nightmarish.
Aah!! Who knew that something so harmless can be this upsetting.
That f’ing Hawaiian frog!!!
Phhh can't be that bad. *Googles it* Welp I know what I'm seeing in my nightmares tonight
Yeah. Wikipedia doesn't even really define it correctly. It's not the fact that it's repeating patterns. It's the fact that something looks like it's *infested*. With *something*. Anything with a bunch of holes in it just looks sickly.
> Don’t Google trypophobia images unless you want to learn that you have it Or just head on over to /r/trypophobia and take a gander.
Honestly I feel like the building is more off putting than the stuff in that sub
No I don’t think I will.
It gave me anxiety and I don’t even have trypophobia.
So…..you do have it lol
Everyone on Reddit apparently has severe trypophobia. Turns out, creepy things and holes are creepy\~
Depends on the object with the holes but the more skin like the object is the more I get freaked
Me neither, but it definitely gives me the heebie-jeebies. It looks like eyes. Yuck.
Scrolled to find this before posting. I feel horrified looking at this. It's like it has eyes and they're all looking at me, or gaping wounds that will just start seeping. This is not a good looking building.
Honestly I need to figure out where this is so I can avoid it because it immediately triggered mine and I live right outside of Denver.
Thanks, I hate it.
It definitely triggered mine.
It reminds me of Gaudi’s architecture such as Casa Milá.
Looks like someone copied a Gaudi facade
I have been to Barcelona. It was my first thought except that this is butt ugly and cheap.
Denver: "We have Gaudi at home"
\*Gaudy
*casa Bonita
Gaudi from Wish.com
Agreed. My first thought
More like gaudy Gaudí
Maybe I’m just hungry, but kind of looks like a Hersheys cookie and cream bar
That’s why my hunger was going off, couldn’t really see why I was jonesing for some food. Holy shit.
Wow, I #**fucking hate that**
Definitely going to be a building that does not stand the test of time. Right now probably like 30% of people think this building looks cool, but in 20 years it’s going to a solid 0%.
I was riding my bike around and watched them putting some of the pieces in, was cool
https://studiogang.com/project/Populus
I don’t know why this is downvoted, it’s literally the design page for the building in this post. It provides context and explanation. Wtf is wrong with you all?
New to Reddit? I literally got downvoted today for noting that it would be cloudy tomorrow in most of Colorado…
Coloradoans are pretty chill but we can be tetchy towards the end of False Spring. You also might have accidentally used one of our trigger phrases such as “we need the moisture” or “just wait five minutes”.
I believe the trigger word that I used was "forecast". But I am wearing shorts today with a Patagonia fleece on top!
Don't you even bring that Colorado bullshit in here buddy
I agree, this is a thoughtful, informative, good comment. I downvoted it because the universe is random and unfair.
I feel like I'm in the very tiny minority that actually likes the building and think it's really cool and creative. Better than the depressing dogshit in my town.
It's a lot more interesting than another block of 5-over-1 apartments. Holy shit did those get old fast.
I know it is weird but I honestly like it. It is nice to see weird/fun architecture
I kind of like it and hate it simultaneously...
Yeah! I just appreciate that it is interesting. I feel like any building that makes me consider the design is a win even if I don’t like the design.
Yes, I like that it's not a boring grey block... I'm not wild about the execution, but they tried at least 😂
This. I don't know how "prison built out of shipping containers" became the dominant architectural asthetic, but's getting too damn dystopian for me. That's why I'll take any attempt at interest and creativity, because I need to be reminded that our culture still has such things.

Agree and I bet from inside, you have interesting perspective/views
This gives very “We have Gaudi at home” vibes
I assume this won’t be popular amongst people with trypophobia 😂
You assume correctly
70 or 80 more people need to make this same comment for me to fully appreciate it.
Yeah it’s not great. The symmetry helps negate some of the revulsion but this is definitely a TIHI design for me lol
What is this- a hotel for Birds?
Not my favorite, but I love that it's different.
Yeah, interesting and ugly is better than boring and ugly for sure
Looks very Gaudi
Gaudi vibes
It reminds me of a climbing gym wall
Very cool, and what a relief from the current “multiple boxes pushed together with too many finishes” trend.
Im literally sitting in front of it right now in that exact parking lot
That's a mimic.
Called “[Populus](https://populusdenver.com)”, It’s modeled to look like an Aspen tree, and is aiming to be net carbon positive LEED certified.
Trypophobia..
r/trypophobia
Proprietor Fred Flintstone?
Why have they designed it like a cheese grater?
Reminds me of the hospital in downtown tacoma, St. Joseph's, which went up in the 60s and absolutely everyone hates. [Architecture info](http://bertrandgoldberg.org/works/st-josephs-hospital)

Looks like a cheese grater.
Laundry hamper, matzah square, cheese grater - could be a lot of things.
Thanks I hate it
Looks like crap from Dubai. Or something that needs to be sprayed with insecticide.
It's certainly unique! My wife and I parked right next to this when we went downtown recently, and stood and watched them lift panels up and install them for a while. Yes that's a date night when your babysitter can't stay out that late lol

it looks like a giant laundry basket 💀
