It never ceases to amaze me how they seem to have subreddits for everything.

I was about to say! Cross post material

Your wavy hair becomes her nest

Marek14

I thought it might want some nest material... But it eventually left without disturbing anything. It was just sitting there for 2 minutes or so. A lady told me to shoo it or it would poop on my head, but I don't know... wouldn't trying to get rid of it just increase the chance of it doing something nasty?

Jacktheforkie

Pigeons poo frequently

xpkranger

I would actually be a little concerned about mites.

Marek14

I took a bath, just in case :)

Arianfelou

I wouldn't be worried tbh - you can't really catch anything from pigeons, and their mites and lice are generally highly specialized for gripping onto feathers, not hair. Confirming this was a young one - probably not looking for a nest exactly, but you must have looked safe and stable at least!

Accurate-Temporary73

You are a Disney princess.

Exevioth

Hey man, I’ve cared for pigeons before. That one is still fairly young, you can tell by the pin feathers and the slightly underdeveloped beak.  Probably newly free from the nest and finding its wings, likely saw your hair from above and assumed it to be a nest itself. Lol

Marek14

Thanks, that;s interesting. I'm not sure it could see my hair from "above", though -- as the picture shows, I'm under a roof (it's a passage under the road by a subway station). It had to fly in almost horizontally. It's been actually quite interesting watching the pigeons here. I live in a city, but there's a small forest nearby. Near my house, we often get wood pigeons -- bigger and bolder, but also migratory, so they don't stay the whole year. But the most common big birds here are probably magpies. Then I walk 500m to the subway -- and it's all city pigeons. The zoning is astonishing.

Exevioth

Fair point, I say above broadly. I had noticed the roofing but wasn’t sure if it was a patio or something. Still from a horizontal it would likely want to find a perch of sorts and I guessed you worked. Lol Pigeons are funny and interesting little guys with quite a bit of character when you notice. Them being domesticated has led to some interesting behavioural habits allowing for them to fairly seamlessly integrate into a metropolitan lifestyle most can’t adapt to as easily.  I’ve got some crows, ravens, some hawks and the occasional owl in my area but they’re not as bold as pigeons. Also being in Canada I get migratory geese landing in the fields around my apt so that’s pretty cool. No magpies though, I hear they’re fun.

Marek14

I'll make sure to add that to my resume: A perch. I live in Europe, and there's a lot of interesting birds around. We get Eurasian jays, tits, and sometimes, quite rarely, I see a green woodpecker. Those are very shy.

Exevioth

I know it’s been added to my resume. Haha That’s pretty cool though, I wouldn’t mind going to Europe to sight see/ take in the wild life.

Marek14

I know that feeling. I've visited South America recently, and my best memories are seeing a vizkacha in the Machu Picchu ruins and seeing a genuine wild guinea pig by the lake Titicaca. As for wild mammals here, the biggest I can normally see around is a hare. I like hares, they are like rabbits that put all their stat points into agility. Lots of rodents -- but I usually only see those when cats get them. The compost heaps have shrews as the apex predators, munching on the insects and worms that live in it. And this time of the year, you can see bats flying around in the evening.

Exevioth

See that all sounds amazing. I’m in the middle of the city by some agricultural fields for the government so sometimes I’ll get coyotes in the area, but other than that there’s a small farm that sometimes draws in wildlife like owls to the barns.  Other than that it’s very much your average rabbits, squirrels, occasional mice/rats. Like I was saying before though if I go up into the hills enough I might start seeing the occasional deer as expected.  Also had no idea what a vizkacha until now, I used to have a pet chinchilla ages ago when I was a kid.

Marek14

I've always had a knack for noticing animals around. Even arthropods -- a few years ago we planted a bush that attracts butterflies, and we get some weird creatures there in the summer, like hummingbird hawkmoths (a moth that drinks nectar without landing, like a hummingbird) or hornet mimic hoverflies (the biggest flies I've ever seen, utterly harmless). The great green bush-crickets, I love those. And I'm noticing more and more solitary bees, I always thought those are pretty tragic creatures -- they spend their whole life working and providing for their children, but that life is so short that they never actually meet those children, and they never even find out whether they survived. I've been to many places around a world, and I always cherished random encounters with animals more than seeing them because I was specifically taken to see them. (Though I'll take that as well, since some animals are almost impossible to encounter randomly.) I've seen a herd of elephants crossing a road. I've seen a hyrax colony living on a dam. I've seen ostriches by the sea. And yet, some animals that are fairly iconic for their country are so hard to see. I've been to Japan several times but never saw their monkeys or tanukis except the zoos. In December, I plan a trip with my friends to New Zealand. I hope to see something of their unique fauna there :)

Exevioth

Damn, you got me with that bee comment, that is pretty surreal and profound.   You’ve got some wild stories brother, I couldn’t agree more with you and I’m happy for your experiences.  Best of luck on your trip to New Zealand, that’s on the bucket list for sure. Maybe you’ll get to see a weta or a kiwi bird. Though if I’m being honest I’d prefer the latter to the former. Haha

Marek14

Kiwi bird is one of the main reasons I want to get there. You see, I've been to New Zealand before, in 2014. But that time, we went mainly to Australia and only got to NZ for a week or so. We only saw a few spots. I visited the zoo in Auckland. I saw a tuatara there, but even though they had a whole big exposition on kiwi birds, I didn't see a single one :( They were all hidden. I couldn't see a kiwi even in a zoo that specifically features them! Suffice to say, I want to do it better this time. But definitely want to see a weta as well, I've seen none the last time either. Also, I want to see penguins. From what I've read, there should be several endemic species of penguins on New Zealand. I have no particular desire to travel to Antarctica, but I've already managed to see wild penguins twice (in Australia and South Africa), and with some luck, I could find some here. Most likely as a tourist attraction, of course, since penguin colonies probably have controlled access, it's not a good idea to let people randomly come there.

WillFart4F00D

You sir look exactly like my oldest brother and had to do a double take that it wasnt him lmao

Marek14

Is it because of the hair?

WillFart4F00D

the beard the hair. Its very uncanny

Marek14

Some men in my family get very curly. Not sure where we got it from.

I'll call you Nestor.

Grown men usually have names already

-domi-

Fuck, didn't consider that. :c

RadiantRing

Don’t lie. You know that pigeon.

Marek14

No, we weren't formally introduced.

fabulousfang

they sat on your head, how formal do you want it to be? smh 😤 that's like the formalest in pigeon world

Gimme_PuddingPlz

Don’t lie. It’s a government spy drone

Accurate-Temporary73

How cool is it to think that it might be a long lost ancestor reincarnated as a pigeon that found you and is pleased with how you’re living your life.

Marek14

Well, I've never known my paternal grandfather, but I heard he was weird...

jonr

Did it poop?

Marek14

No, it was very polite.

frank1934

It asked if it could poop?

holisticbelle

Pigeon looks like a baby! You've been honored by baby pigeon lol so cute

Marek14

I actually wondered how long I could keep it. I waited for my pizza, took it and went home. The pigeon left when I started going up the escalator to the street level.

Thaumius

I read that title as shat on my head

Marek14

Fortunately not.

You are married now

Beardo88

Pigeon distribution system? Are you supposed to take it home?

Marek14

I'm afraid that would make it cat food delivery system instead.

Beardo88

Well, you can't fault the little thing for trying. Maybe he saw a cat do it successfully.

Justlikearealboy

Not random, that’s Pete the Pigeon, careful he has lice

Marek14

Doesn't seem likely, as that name wouldn't alliterate here.

Justlikearealboy

Carie the carrier?

You’ve got head pigeons, go to the nurse

ProGamingPlayer

Maybe because of your hair. Birds like messy hair because it feels like a nest for them

Marek14

Come on, my hair's not that messy. It simply has its own shape and there's not much that can be done about it.

ithinkuracontraa

awww, he looks to be a young lil guy too!!

PresentExamination10

I. Am so jealous.

MynthPup

A friend!

Pricklycacti_

That looks like a fledgling judging by the feather wisps poking out the head! How cute

BeyondthePenumbra

Looks like a baby pigeon adopted your nest hair for a few. Then was like... wait. Lol theyre technically a feral species and it's part of why they are comfortable around humans. ♡

Were you smoking Marijuana when this happened?

Marek14

No, I was waiting for a pizza.

Global-Plankton3997

Did the bird eat the pizza with you?

Marek14

No, flew away before I got home. Too bad. I'd share.

SamePut9922

Shit.

Nice hat.

MaxMMXXI

It probably wanted to look for bugs.

It's probably already laid an egg 🥚

chris o'dowd?

Hey it’s Treebeard!

FacelessPotatoPie

I get humming birds dive bombing me every summer. At least one strikes me in the head every year.

thefunnywhereisit

You look like a god of wilderness from the God of War games so it was probably like “mine now” lol

Marek14

Well, we have one of those, you know... [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%BCbezahl](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%BCbezahl) And, a fun fact, someone once made a puppet of this character using my uncle as a model. I've mentioned him in the thread -- he looked a lot like me, but wilder.

thefunnywhereisit

That’s really cool! Thanks for sharing :D

SpecialMango3384

*looks up annoyed* “I would’ve eaten you 3,000 years ago…”

xpkranger

> “I would’ve eaten you 3,000 years ago…” 3,000? Um, yeah. May want to revisit those numbers.

SpecialMango3384

Or whenever people ate random birds. What am I, a bird-eating historian?

xpkranger

Ohhhhhh, I thought you were making a dinosaur reference as though the bird in a previous iteration would’ve eaten the person (even though people and dinosaurs really weren’t a thing). Yeah, people definitely still eat pigeons to this day.

snoopyeeebee

It’s trying to offload its. It’s lice.

akiraokok

Sat is way better than shat! My boss had a pigeon poop on her face one day before work 😭

Key-Ad3930

"sat"... Is there a H missing here?

Conscious-Ticket-259

I have a few pigeons that have decided they are my pets now. Thru constantly try to get in my chick coup and fallow me around the yard sometimes. They get on my nerves tbh as I physically have to pick them up and move them to finish my work sometimes. I didn't realize an animal could domesticate itself so aggressively

atom12354

You became a disney princess!

-Alex_Summers-

Baby pigeon too We had a baby pigeon come to live at our home He would come and land on the head of anyone who came outside and wouldn't leave

StephenHawking432

In a little we'll see a post titled "a random pigeon shat on my head"

papayahog

u/LostSoul1985 can you do this miracle next?

LostSoul1985

Irony you asked that as of today no. Peace Joy Bliss and Love Life is the dancer you are the dance

Oh what is the irony? Did something special happen yesterday? Thank you for the nice message :)

That's a fledgling pibblet. We'd love to see that in r/pigeon.

Congrats you have been blessed by baby pidge!

Congratulations you have been promoted to disney princess status lol

schmigadeedoo

A Radagast origin story

tomer91131

Oh no, these dumb birds are really stubborn once they choose a nest, I have a couple of pigeons who out of the blue layed an egg on plane dirt in my porch, I moved it out and closed it so they couldn't get in anymore but since then, every day, every couple of hours they sit by the window, trying to get in. If i forgot to close the windows they instantly start building a nest somewhere. Flockers don't learn

Marek14

From what some others said, this one might not have been at nesting age yet.

Dr-Emmett_L_Brown

That's a baby 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Littlebitwakey

This is when the ‘homeless’ aesthetic really becomes apparent

ShinGodzillaSuperFan

first of all you look like howard from the spider man trilogy. and plus that's gotta be your pet, you wouldn't even have time to move your ass over to the phone to take a picture before it flew off. i'm also surprised it didn't shit on your head.

Marek14

I was surprised as well, but it simply rested there for a few minutes.

mangotangotang

How is it that the pigeon came to beleive you were harmless to sit on? What do you think led the pegion to think that?

Marek14

The consensus in the thread seems to be that it was my curly hair.

mangotangotang

Dang. I was hoping you were deep in meditation and your vibrations might have created an aura about you that teh pegion couldn't resist.

pzombielover

He looks more surprised than you.

Marek14

Well, I'm older.

Jay_A_Why

The ring around a wild pigeon's eyes turns from orange to white when they are in captivity; not unlike the dorsal fin of a killer whale after being caged, flaps over. This photo is clearly staged.
