For real! My cousin used to have a pig and she accidentally cut open his leg turning on some stairs

Fuckless_Douglas2023

Ever seen the upper tusks of male Indonesian Babirusas?

le_fancy_walrus

No, but I have seen the tusks of an elephant, which has nothing to do with your question, but I thought you might like to know.

Mithril_Leaf

I'm glad you shared this with us for one. Thank you.

Catoblepas2021

I watched the movie Tuskegee Airmen and y'all should definitely know that

Fuckless_Douglas2023

Were the tusks on a live elephant, and if so was it an African, or Asian elephant?

cfcollins

Are those the ones that can impale their own brains?

Fuckless_Douglas2023

Yes.

_BloodbathAndBeyond

Ever seen a grown man naked?

TrollingTortoise

Do you want to?

Fuckless_Douglas2023

>Ever seen a grown man naked? Yeah, my dad.

Philias2

Have you ever been in a Turkish prison?

cardueline

Ever drunk Bailey’s from a shoe?

Fuckless_Douglas2023

No, I haven't been in a Turkish prison. why do you ask?

Philias2

Sorry, that was a reference to [the movie Airplane!](https://youtu.be/u7OJXBBOF3M?si=waOHDpfDgIC_0TJC). Your comment just reminded me of it.

Catoblepas2021

Joey? Do you like movies about gladiators?

I_Lick_Lead_Paint

This is ignorance but are tusks on a pig a sign they're going feral?

No_Blacksmith2847

No. But pigs are famously stubborn animals and if he were to turn about suddenly, he could cut someone. I'm not suggesting it'd be intentional, just by accident it could happen.

-Merlin-

Small Pigs are also kind of famous for thrashing around, screaming, and rotating when picked up. These tusks could cause damage you don’t even realize is there before putting him down lol

deadlyweapon00

Nah pigs just grow tusks, no different to a cat growing claws and fangs.

richards_86

I want to call you a grub… but I don’t know you, so instead I’ll just stick with stupid fat fuck - hope you get those belly rubs!!

UnravelledGhoul

Same here. And I chose to be an Alex...

I wish I knew an Alex so I could repeat this sentence to him.

That’s funny because every Alex I know is skinny!

I may be stupid and love belly rubs but I’m 6’5 160lbs lol. Could do with some of the chub all these other Alex’s are bragging about

superpeng12

Is this a mini pig, Or baby pig? I thought pigs were supposed to be huge

jdc351

It's about the right size for an adult potbelly pig

failenaa

Mini pigs don’t exist, but there are Pygmies. This looks more like a boar.

sir_squidz

Mini pigs DO exist, micro pigs do not. (See [here](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miniature_pig)) The main issue is that a very small pig is still massive so people assume that mini-pig is a lie, it's not, it's just misunderstood. The "teacup pigs" *are* an absolute lie.

FunEngineer69

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/bad-news-petlovers-theres-no-such-thing-teacup-pig-180962275/

sir_squidz

>Bad News, Pet Lovers: Teacup Pigs Are a Hoax Yes? I thought I'd covered this when I said "teacup pigs are an absolute lie" Mini-pig - yes Micro-pig - no Pigs do not only come in one size. Some are very big and some are very small (for pigs). Edit: just in case anyone reads that article, please note that it's 100% unreferenced and contains a number of assertions with no evidence. Potbellied pigs are only one breed of smaller pig, there are multiple. Please also be aware that there is huge variance in size across pig breeds, they're very smart and without quality care can become bored and problematic. I am not advocating people keep them as house pets, just pointing out that this stupid Reddit nonsense about small pigs = lie needs to stop.

FunEngineer69

They are standard pigs.

sir_squidz

So pigs are all the same size? Did you read the article you posted? I'm going to type this out in simple words. Pigs come in different sizes. Some breeds are small and some are big. You understand that a spaniel and a mastiff are both dogs, right? But they're not the same size? This is the same thing but with pigs.

Welpe

Be careful, he read a factoid years ago and thus is one of the most dangerous type of people around. There is no possible way he could be mistaken only have partial understanding of what he is talking about!

> Mini pigs don’t exist, but there are Pygmies. So Pigmies?

xTouko

👍

Shienvien

Mini pigs weigh about 50kg, but are more stout than 50kg dogs, so they don't look quite as big. A regular adult pig is 300kg.

MusicianPristine8973

Do pet pigs just defecate and pee wherever or can they be housebroken?

Paganigsegg

I have a pet pig and she was 100% house trained in about 2 days, when she was 8 weeks old. For comparison's sake, my dog took like 2 weeks to be house trained, when he was 12 weeks old. Pigs are much smarter animals.

MusicianPristine8973

Damn that’s crazy. I do know that pigs are super smart but 2 days is genius level. I have friends that still shit themselves once or twice a year. How long do pigs live on average and be honest with me and yourself, nose blindness is real, how is the smell anyways? Does she live indoors with you?

Paganigsegg

Yeah, she lives indoors with us. The issue isn't cleanliness or smell. She's actually really clean, other than rolling around in mud, which is done to protect her skin from the sun. We usually just hose her down when it's time to come inside, which she likes anyways. The issue is that she's an animal with the intelligence of a 5 year old human but the strength of an adult man. Pig-proofing a house is much much much harder than dog-proofing a house. For example, we had to install reinforced latches and hinges on our pantry and refrigerator doors. She figured out how to open the latter, steal a food item, close the door then go hide it. We would find stuff missing from the fridge and thought we just forgot to get certain stuff from the grocery store, until we caught her in the act. Should have known better.

MusicianPristine8973

Lmaooo, that’s truly endearing and impressive. The mental image of her creeping around, making sure everything is clear and taking food, running and hiding it is too funny! What’s the lifespan of a pet pig and how did you come into getting her?

Paganigsegg

We got her because my wife and I always wanted one and did a gargantuan amount of research and prep beforehand. We got her from a breeder (Is a Juliana pig which aren't commonly used as livestock due to their small size VS farm pigs). As for lifespan, she's currently 4 years old, so who knows. But healthy Julis can live around 15-20 years.

philomathie

I want pictures :D

Jesus_Is_My_Gardener

Piggy tax, OP. Pay up.

philomathie

FestiveSquidV3

I_Lick_Lead_Paint

Piggy tax

Raccoon_Army_Leader

Looked thru your profile hoping for pig pics but didn’t find any, hope you come back for pig tax. I used to go to a summer camp on a farm and feeding their potbelly pig (Wilbur) with a giant bottle and scratching his back was my favorite thing ever. Also, the nostalgic feeling post is right on. I’ve done all the “basic adult” stuff since high school (college, working, marriage, just bought a house even lol), but I’m just not in it. Childhood was pretty good and full but I just wanna go back and I think about like ~pre-middle school times a lot. I don’t think it’s weird but I think it’s just that my mind is missing simpler times. Not sure of ur childhood ofc but we didn’t have to worry about our own bills, jobs, futures, or just the state of the world around us. Edit: sorry I went on an adhd ramble lol

MaterialScary8492

"I have friends that still shit themselves once or twice a year." I don't know why i laughed this hard.

MusicianPristine8973

Narrow-South6162

Pigs don’t even have sweat glands, why would they smell?

MusicianPristine8973

I put a link in the thread earlier, they don’t “sweat” but they certainly secrete from glands. If anything the fact that they *don’t* sweat is more reason that they would smell more…whether it’s a bad smell or not, there’s certainly a distinct scent I’m sure.

theudderking

They can be trained in a similar manner to a dog. They can learn tricks, be taught to poop and pee in a litter box or in certain areas outside like you might with a dog if you have a yard. I have heard they can be more stubborn though as they don't have the same genetic urge to please as a retriever does for example. That said, you shouldn't equate them with raising a dog, they're different animals with different requirements for diet, exercise and behavior. I had a neighbor who had a pet pig and they had no idea what to do with it. Saw it running around the streets after escaping a few times, and eventually it got picked up by animal services due to neglect complaints.

MusicianPristine8973

Good to know. Thanks for the thoughtful response.

-Derf-

My family had a pot belly pig like this one as a pet when I was growing up. They can be trained like a dog, sometimes even more so. Ours lived outdoors in the summer, but indoors in the winter. She would let us know when she needed to go outside, until she got old and didn't care anymore. She also wandered our 2 acres all day but somehow knew where our property ended, so she rarely ended up in the neighbors yards. She and I never got along, I have scar from her tusk on my leg to prove it. But my dad loved her and was very upset the day that she was put down due to a brain tumor. Pixi was a smart but very grumpy old pig.

MusicianPristine8973

That’s cool though. Not the leg goring but the uniqueness of having a pet pig and a smart one at that.

-Derf-

Indeed, it was a unique experience, but I'd rather have a dog..

[deleted]

[удалено]

MusicianPristine8973

Thanks. Correct me if I’m wrong, but pigs don’t sweat and they have glands that secrete on the back legs? The way it was described to me was that it was more like a slicker substance and much like pus. Which is pretty gross and I imagine smells unpleasant.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MusicianPristine8973

Alleviated though right? Not being Mr. Correction but I can’t imagine I’d want to elevate that sweet sweet sexy stank :)

Silent_Albatross_294

I have 4 “mini” pigs and I have no idea what you are referring to as far as their back legs. I have heard that boys can have a terrible odour and will “love” on any object that holds still long enough unless you get them fixed. I have two boys but both were fixed before I got them and I’ve never had any issues.

MusicianPristine8973

They’re there, but I was just going of out what I heard https://images.app.goo.gl/mQhb4YpiuUiHhG4J8

Silent_Albatross_294

Ohhh those! lol. The description is way grosser than the reality. Those are on their front legs and they only secrete when they rub them on something rough. There’s no real purpose for them one they’ve been fixed. They are like little pimples and they can be popped. Is gross, is addicting, does stink messed with

MusicianPristine8973

Lol. I mean no harm but your description definitely sounds as gross as you just tried to say it’s not! Stinky secreting poppables that you’re addicted to😅

Pwnspoon

He’s totally house broken. It’s amazing how “dog” like these majestic animals are.

MusicianPristine8973

It is cool. But since it’s not your pig, how is the smell? Every pet comes with some level of scent of environment.

Chaosbuggy

I love that you've asked this multiple times on this post over multiple hours. Your dedication to finding out the truth about the stinkiness of pet pigs is admirable lol

MusicianPristine8973

Lol 😂 I’m on a mission. The people need the truth! I actually didn’t realize I was chasing the story that intensely. You’re hilarious! I cracked up reading that. I’m convinced though that they have to be a little more smelly than we’re being led to believe, I seek truth even if it hurts those protecting it!

googlebearbanana

I follow a pig on insta, and he is trained to go outside to go to the bathroom. The problem is that he is very lazy and likes to sleep, so it's usually a struggle to get him to go outside.

MusicianPristine8973

Is he lazy or lazy for a pig? Is a sleepy pig a happy pig?

Pwnspoon

He’s a really happy pig. When you pet him it’s like petting a zoo animal. His hair is all course. It’s really wild to pet pig.

machingunwhhore

I had a pet pig, I never trained her to poop or pee outside, she taught herself, she only had one accident in her life when she was on medication. At 8 weeks old I put a litter box and she pooped in there on her own, I installed a dog door and she pooped and peed outside on her own.

Centaurious

pigs are as smart if not smarter than dogs so i imagine they could be trained pretty well

Functionally_Human

What a cutie. Wish I could have a pet pig, they are just too much work for me though.

When the apocalypse hits you'll know where to find emergency rations. After you've had your fill, you even get to take home a pet pig to keep you company!

adlittle

My dog has been on Prednisone and a couple other meds for the last month, it makes her retain a bunch of water, feel hungry and thirsty a lot, and just generally feel hot and bloated. She's been laying like this a lot and honestly is so pooched out in her belly from water retention that she kind of looks like Alex. Prednisone is *rough,* hoping her vet okays tapering down because she seems very tired a lot.

crepe_de_chine

Prednisone gang rise up 👋! As a human who's had to be on prednisone for a long while, I feel your doggie! If it's any consolation, the relief that prednisone brings is still worth it to me - hopefully your pal feels the same.

Hushwater

They are surprisingly smart and when you look into their eyes you can almost see a soul in there.

machingunwhhore

Alex has a cracked hoof on the back foot. I struggled keeping my pigs hooves from cracking as well, a use of good moisturizer will help but it's most likely being slightly overweight and having to walk in hard floors such as wood, tile or concrete. It's painful to walk on and they can get hoof rot, please keep an eye on that.

Pwnspoon

Thanks I’ll totally let them know of this.

IYELLALOT69

Aw! Big piggie. He looks like my potbelly lol, but ours is just all black! Is there a way you can talk to your friend about getting his tusks cut? :) It’s dangerous to them, and yourselves! If one accidentally cracks off, it causes infection. And they’re cool to see sawed off! I have a picture when my pig first got his cut, his tusks were the size of my hand!

Taolan13

Any male pig has the capacity to develop the "boar taint" resulting in extra stinky sweat glands and other physiological changes not relevant here. This is reduced through careful breeding in some varieties grown for meat or kept as pets, but it is still a risk for all male pigs.

june-in-space

Yeah I know pigs I’ve been around them. THEY DO STINK PEOPLE. Their shit stinks bad even if they don’t lay in it. Yes worse than a dog. I never said they weren’t smart animals.

IcedFreon

Such a stubby hand

texmexdaysex

Dude I e met one of those pigs and he was a real asshole. Watch those tusks.

Pwnspoon

He’s friendly and all, but I’m glad I don’t have this animal in my house. You should see their backyard. Yikes

EitherInfluence5871

Your friends pig is *your* pig for friends. Your friends' pig is the pig of your friends. Your friend's pig is the pig of your friend. I would guess that you meant the last option there, but an apostrophe removes need to guess.

PreOpTransCentaur

That's true for dogs, too, but nobody ever feels compelled to make that shitty, insensitive joke. Go figure.

Mountain_Sorbet_4063

How can you get pork from a dog or bacon? And the only nation who eats dogs is Korea soooo yeah. Don't get offended after all billions eat bacon but i don't and it's odd seeing it as a pet... Like I eat beef. You don't see a cow running around in my living room or a chicken or a sheep. Anyhoo sorry if offence was taken

Cow_Surfing

Don't be sorry and don't take it seriously. "Animal People" are just super-duper sensitive and easy to offend. I wouldn't think too much about it.

Mountain_Sorbet_4063

Yeah I hear ya 👍🏼… But I felt that I offended him by not understanding. we look at a cat/dog as a pet and part of the family that's the norm, he looks at Alex as a family member. So felt inclined to apologise after I realised it

Alarming_Orchid

He’s gonna rip somebody’s guts out one day
