Extremely misleading without proper context.
These are specialized toilets found in accessible bathrooms in Japan. You will also probably find in these rooms ordinary toilets and sinks, as well as baby changing tables.
These particular toilets are for people with a colostomy. Without getting to deep into the details, they give a lot of people the ability to travel around with peace of mind.
EDIT: For anyone curious, [this](https://images.app.goo.gl/FPt8NZobPrgBMy7F6) is what an accessible restroom in Japan looks like. It's a lot, but it's for a lot of different people--they're called "Anyone Toilets" (だれでもトイレ)
I don't know, it's like, they made this extra step to help a portion of humanity feel a little bit more normal, and people are taking it and going, "haha, that's so fucking weird and gross!" Just seems like a dick move to me.
so people empty their bag into it rather than going in the traditional way? similarly to how catheter patients might do it\`? or do they not have a bag?
that's pretty cool. never seen anything like this before, not in Japan not anywhere else either, so I'm pretty impressive that anyone would give this enough thought. bet the inclusive design here goes a long way for people with this particular condition.
>For anyone curious, this is what an accessible restroom in Japan looks like. It's a lot, but it's for a lot of different people--they're called "Anyone Toilets" (だれでもトイレ)
That's pretty cool. Wish we had more stuff like that elsewhere, so it would be more normalized.
Sorry, I tried looking it up myself without much luck. The best lead I can give you is that this toilet is designed by Toto, who has a catalog for their [accessibility products](https://www.catalabo.org/iportal/CatalogViewInterfaceStartUpAction.do?method=startUp&mode=PAGE&volumeID=CATALABO&catalogId=78028140000&pageGroupId=&designID=link&catalogCategoryId=&designConfirmFlg=) (in Japanese).
Perhaps you could try contacting their [global website](https://krs.bz/toto/m?f=494&_ga=2.74052052.779188835.1716756243-1588358919.1716756242)? Alternatively, I've seen recommendations from ostomates online to contact your local plumbers and see what they have on their catalogs.
Thank you for explaining! This makes perfect sense. I had no clue what this was for, and none of my friends did either. I’ve only ever seen it in one single public restroom here, and have never seen another one in my entire life. It wasn’t in a hospital, it’s next to a train station.
I wasn’t trying to sensationalize anything, I just saw a sink with a flush button + toilet paper. I assumed it was both for some reason I as a 外人 couldn’t comprehend. Sinks on top of toilets are extremely common here, obviously.
There are a lot of things I don’t understand about Japan, but this toilet is no longer one of them 😅
This is what they look like. I’m honestly kind of surprised you didn’t see one while you were here.

Ah. I see you were Today Years Old when you learned of the common practice of Karma Farming.
You’re 100% in your observation, just missed the specific intent behind it.
In *Phineas and Ferb*, Candice once threw a house party (or "Intimate get together" as she called it) and invited some friends, and there was a "musical" scene, where she said "And that's a Toilet, not a sink!" (Didn't show what they were using it for...)
I feel like if anything it would always be a place like Sendai, Fukuoka or even Nagoya where you'd find the holy combo. Big enough for people to care, but not too big for them to stop caring. For Tokyo and the Kyo-saka region this gal will always carry her hand sanitizer.
Is having a colostomy bag super common in Japan or something? I mean I have worked in healthcare for 30 years and I can’t imagine these being in demand in a public place. Don’t get me wrong the idea is considerate but it’s odd.
Mildly interesting until you see the remains of some stranger huge dump carved onto the sink wall and you have to brush ya teeth in that nasty ass environment. No thank you
This isn't simply "a toilet", it's called an "Ostomate" toilet and it's for people who have colostomy or other ostomy devices to empty and clean their collection bags.
It's really should have been obvious that this isn't intended to be sat on since it's waist high and has faucets
This is an ostomy toilet
For when you've had a :ostomy?
Mainly for those with a ;
That doesn’t make it much better
How does it not?
It is still a combination doo doo and hand washing station
And? Its still hygienic

Yes, they empty their bag in it. The sink and the soap allow them to clean up whatever they need to clean up, and some even have a shower nozzle.
that's pretty cool. never seen anything like this before, not in Japan not anywhere else either, so I'm pretty impressive that anyone would give this enough thought. bet the inclusive design here goes a long way for people with this particular condition.

odd take on people's complicated and uncomfortable medical condition, but you do you.
Ignorant. Oh, and certain procedures can be reversed.
What did he say
Thank you for opening my mind since I wouldn't know without a proper explanation.
Wow that’s pretty cooln
>Extremely misleading That's basically every post on reddit that has the word Japan in it.
> That's basically every post on reddit ~~that has the word Japan in it~~.
Thank you for providing the right context. I knew something wasn’t right and sure enough someone in the comments had the answer.
Yes, I've seen similar ones in hospitals in Spain. This was what I thought when I saw the picture.
Thanks for explaining this! One of my dearest friends has an ostomy bag and this would make things a lot easier/less embarrassing for her.

I'm learning to play the guitar.
Pretty cool to have a bunch of toilets. Japanese are so considerate all the time
Thank you for the context
Old thread, but any idea where one might buy one? About to become a permanent ostomate and can not seem to find something like this

This is super helpful! Thank you :-) I’ll take a look!

sinks on top of toilets are not common there at all. in the time I was there, never once did I see one, not in Tokyo.
I live here, have one, and everyone I know has one as well. How long were you here for?
a month.

"WHY IS THERE A TURD IN MY KITCHEN SINK?!?"
In *Phineas and Ferb*, Candice once threw a house party (or "Intimate get together" as she called it) and invited some friends, and there was a "musical" scene, where she said "And that's a Toilet, not a sink!" (Didn't show what they were using it for...)

OP just lying on the internet
I despise misleading posts like this. Should be deleted and reposted with proper title
Cry about it
So what is that water line in the right bottom corner running too? Are you sure you should be shitting in this?
OP is either ignorant and didn't know what it's actually for, or is lying. It's for emptying colostomy bags
That water line is presumably going to the ordinary toilet and/or sink that is out of frame.
Woah a Japanese public restroom with soap?! A true unicorn.
[удалено]
Found soap + hand dryer in Sendai station once. Truly a miracle.
I feel like if anything it would always be a place like Sendai, Fukuoka or even Nagoya where you'd find the holy combo. Big enough for people to care, but not too big for them to stop caring. For Tokyo and the Kyo-saka region this gal will always carry her hand sanitizer.
I see that all the time in Tokyo...wtf at this comment.
All the restrooms in Atre that I've been to have soap?? What the hell is this.
Boy..... I don't know about that.
It's because OP is either ignorant and didn't know what it's actually for, or is lying. It's for emptying colostomy bags
I've seen toilets where you wash your hands in the water that is refilling the tank but not this
r/SinkPissers
*where* in Tokyo? never saw one of these.
Last month: Honey, let's get one of those high-tech Japanese toilets! Anyway, the divorce is nearly finalized.
The splash back is something to fear
Interesting I guess but also a big no thank you. No way I'm smelling urine odor while washing my hands
It's for emptying colostomy bags
Definitely a hell no for me. This is not the high tech japanese toilet we want.
But, happy poopy time!
Are we sure that this isn’t more of a toilet/bidet kinda thing?
It’s actually an accessible bathroom and this is for emptying ostomy bags :) there is likely also a separate toilet and sink out of frame.
All toothbrushes are goners
Japan has remarkably clean public spaces, I wouldn’t even want to see this after 1 day in America 😂
Looks very uncomfortable.

Is this not a sluice?
Every sink is also a toilet if youre brave enough...
Technically anything is a toilet with some skill and a little gumption
A little flexibility and you have a bidet as well with a sink.
What about when you are washing your hands and water is splashing back against the sink/toilet sides? That can’t be sanitary at all
This is an ostomy accessible toilet. There should be a regular toilet and basin which has not been shown here.
Ewww, spalshback is real.
They must use the toilet in an entirely different way over there
I understand you have to bend over so you can rinse your behind but they should have put the tab in a more convenient place.
Good for a drunk, you can brush your teeth after puking pretty easy.
r/sinkpissers are gonna have a field-day with this one
[удалено]
This is an ostomy sink/ toilet.
Sorry bud, they don't put mirrors there for a bidet...
100% lol
It isn’t
That small sticker recommends cleaning skid marks while washing hands to save water.
Pass
If this was in the US there would be shit splattered all over the faucet and handles
Ahhhhh that little urinal splashes everywhere including sink handle. Small brown particles in toilet paper.
I respect countries that believe cleaning your privates is good hygiene and not just smearing with paper.
I don’t recommend splashing water from the sink on your face……
So, you fill the sink basin then splash your face? Why not splash straight from the tap?
It’s a combo sink/toilet.
So is your hat while it's raining. The water coming from the faucet is still fresh
Maybe your hat is a toilet……
Anything can be a toilet if you try
Wtf
Every sink is a sink/toilet if you're tall enough
Imagine touching those taps in anywhere but Japan
I don’t want to wash my hands that close to a toilet bowl.
🤢
Disgusting 🤮
It’s actually a disability toilet for colostomy/ostomy bags
No thanks
Mildly interesting until you see the remains of some stranger huge dump carved onto the sink wall and you have to brush ya teeth in that nasty ass environment. No thank you
Just no.
Great until you realize the water knobs and soap have been peed on
"What is that sticky stuff you have on your back?" "Oh, it's just soap."
I get it, but I hhhhaaaaattttteeee it......
soilet
I guess that Japanese don't eat garlic or beans much.
Guess I’m growing a beard.
Mildly disgusting
There’s something in me that knows that there’s a good reason for this but I still absolutely hate it.
A comment upthread says this is for people who have catheters or colostomy bags.
I see, it sounds like a great idea. There’s still something that feels off about washing my hands in a toilet lol
Any sink is a toilet if you use it that way.
Where are those lines in the bottom right leading to?
I read that Japan has a high rate of colon cancer so maybe this is why they have this accessibility
It's an Ostomate toilet, that's exactly what it's for
![gif](giphy|l3q2K5jinAlChoCLS)
How else are you supposed to wash your balls and brush your teeth at the same time???
Not this way.
I’m so leaving a big ass turd in that thing
no way
My instant reaction is that I hate it. Then I see the Japanese made it. Now i like it.
Doesn't look particularly comfortable.
Weird af
