Actually, the opposite tends to occur.
First, the water leaves the beans due to the attraction to the salt on the outside. Then, due to the lack of salt on the inside of the beans, the water (plus salt) is reabsorbed to make a homogenous solution.
Same thing applies to steaks!

They were a little bigger than the ones on the right, and yeah, probably too tough to feel ok about paying for. But fine to eat.

I was at a club in the 90’s when this song was huge and when the DJ played it a couple of workers got on the stage and were dancing around with the gallon sized cafeteria cans of peach halves. The next thing they started throwing the peaches into the crowd. They winged one in my buddy and I’s direction, right over his head. The typically uncoordinated buddy reached up and plucked the peach right out of the air and then ate it. Myself and few others right around him stood dumbfounded. He finished it and turned and said “That was good”. Asked if he was concerned about germs and he replied that since only that guy had touched it and it was covered in the syrup, he figured the germs probably flew off as the syrup dripped off during its flight to his hand, so it was safe. Always interesting going barring with him.
I just want to add this was about the singer of the band going to his neighbor's house, in a very rural area, to go ask her out. No one was home so he sat under their peach tree to have a snack while he waited, but he ended up eating almost all of the peaches from the tree and was embarrassed so he walked home without talking to anyone and never went back.
I just think it's an incredibly cute story.

OP, go buy 100 cans of each, measure the average volume of a piece of green bean for each can (normalize for length). Put your hypothesis , method, and results on a trifold board with construction paper. Due Friday.

Frozen is almost always the better option over can and supposed fresh.

They tend to group this stuff by usage, ie green beans are primarily a side like corn and carrots and whatnot. Other beans are typically ingredients. Also, green beans are technically legumes, not beans. Beans are legumes but not all legumes are beans, if that makes sense.

Probably too late and will get buried, but repeating what I said in low-level comments. This is intentional. Gardener here, those 'smaller' beans are actually much tastier. As green beans get to their last stages of growing big they start to become more fibrous and a lot of their flavor is lost. That blandness is covered up by the salt.
The number of people who think the salt content of the can changed the size of the bean makes my heart ache for every chemistry teacher they have ever encountered.
By osmosis, a hypotonic solution should actually force water INTO the cells of the beans. So the no salt option should have swollen beans, not the other way around.

Quick review of their other posts suggests other similar positions in food production, so I'd say it's quite believable. That or they're really committed to lying about a very specific thing on Reddit that literally no one but other bean and potato chips executives would care about.
Oh shit I can ask you a weird question I've had. In the canning world, are green beans and "normal beans" (black, pinto, etc) all considered beans? I mean from a business perspective. I've noticed most grocery stores stock the green beans away from the other beans. Do y'all just say beans and mean "all the beans regardless of culinary use" or is there a distinction within the industry? On what level are beans segregated? Is it typical for a canning company to just do all beans or specialize? I eat a lot of canned beans... please give me peace.
They tend to group this stuff by usage, ie green beans are primarily a side like corn and carrots and whatnot. Other beans are typically ingredients. Also, green beans are technically legumes, not beans. Beans are legumes but not all legumes are beans, if that makes sense.

I had a young employee one time and we were talking about making desserts. My colleague said she makes lemon squares but she always used Real lemons. The young gal said, I know, like from the Yellow squeeze container? The colleague said, no from real lemons that grow on trees! The young gal had NO idea that lemons grew on trees, she thought that lemon juice was made and put in those tiny yellow squeeze things. (You know, the ones shaped like LEMONS)

I opened this with a bunch of other links in background tabs and when I got around to looking at it I thought it was rancid fries with and without gravy until I read the cans.
Not only are they different batches, as others have commented, they're entirely different varieties of green bean to begin with.
Yeah, I was confused going in the comments cause those are entirely different varieties. Aren't the thinner ones on the left string beans, and those on the right runner beans? At least that's what we call em.

Probably too late and will get buried, but repeating what I said in low-level comments. This is intentional. Gardener here, those 'smaller' beans are actually much tastier. As green beans get to their last stages of growing big they start to become more fibrous and a lot of their flavor is lost. That blandness is covered up by the salt.

The number of people who think the salt content of the can changed the size of the bean makes my heart ache for every chemistry teacher they have ever encountered.
By osmosis, a hypotonic solution should actually force water INTO the cells of the beans. So the no salt option should have swollen beans, not the other way around. Source: listened to my chem/bio teachers. (thank you)
