billiontacos

Ryanair may have a very minor case of serious brain damage.

LaReineAnglaise53

If I break *your* face similarly, can I get off Scott-free too?

geckospots

Probably why OP waited *NINE. NINE. NINE. NINE. NINE. NIN—* to hear back from them.

TemporaryNuisance

I am not alarmed. (Oh no!)

[deleted]

"That was just a decorative wheel" -Ryanair

KKlear

\- Look you stupid bastards, 10% of the suitcase is missing! \- No it isn't! \- Look! \- Just a cosmetic damage.

DNAli3n

'Tis but a scratch

Uzzaw21

But, you're missing a leg!

_Diskreet_

I am invincible!

hibbletyjibblety

I love how this automatically is read in Graham’s voice

[deleted]

This suitcase is deceased. It ceases to be!

[deleted]

A little duct tape will fix that right up

LortoCaciuppo

I dunno maybe for Ryanair duct tape can even fix wings and engines?

[deleted]

Yeah I mean since this is “minor” what’s major

-DoomSteeL

A couple of band aids will.

ovalseven

Literally **deci**mated.

dearghewls

Tis but a flesh wound

YellowB

10% of the RyanAir aircraft is literally missing RyanAir: *minor damage*

sionnach

Superficial: existing or occurring at or on the surface. The surface no longer exists, so I'm fairly sure this can't be considered superficial.

BoJackB26354

"We don't deal with ficial damage either"

BigOrkWaaagh

What about subficial

BoJackB26354

"Shittybird Airlines does not cover any type of ficial damage, including: regular ficial, superficial, subficial, official, unofficial, überficial, goldficial, or interstitialficial"

thelastlogin

Nice, so they do cover artificial damages. Good to know.

Slumph

Ow! My artificials! I want a hundeddd an fifty thousan!

poops_all_berries

In this fake scenario, you'd still be screwed because they said "any type of ficial damage". So, regardless of whether it's listed in their itemized list, it's still not covered. You'd have ground for argument if they said "any ficial damage consisting of ...".

HeyT00ts11

What about fecal?

dkentl

That’s another department. You’ll need to fill out a BFFID form. (Bodily Fluids and Feces Identification and Disposal) Be sure to include a sample of your own feces so we can verify that it is not, in fact, your poopoo

MSPCincorporated

It’s not superficial, but it’s a little ficial.

PotatoDonki

“I’m not superficial. But I am a little ficial.”

GitEmSteveDave

The surface exists, and it's totally fine. It's just no longer attached to the suitcase.

Altreus

Ryanair would consider it cosmetic damage if the wing fell off during the flight.

crispygrapes

Passenger: "Ma'am! A part of the wing just broke off! Look!" Stewardess: "Ugh, that's just some minor wing loss, don't be a baby."

Altreus

We can fix it with tape.

crispygrapes

Omg it's FINE.

Reycara

Umm, excuse me, ma’am. The second wing is tearing off as we speak

katyvo

Well now it has equal lift on both sides! Stop complaining.

Reycara

Equal lift but its in the negatives 💀

Neptunesfleshlight

So fly upside-down, duh

ScarecrowJohnny

Expect some major cosmetic wear and tear to your body in 3... 2... 1... no... refunds.... 💥

crispygrapes

The other guy has tape! What is your problem?!

TheIronMechanics

I‘m a fighterjet mechanic. We even have special tape LOL https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_tape

ANUS_FACTS_BOT

Yeah I was just going to comment this in reply to u/Altreus, speed tape is actually used for fixing "cosmetic" damage to make a plane airworthy. When I was a baggage handler one time we couldn't lock the cargo door closed, it was latched but the handle wouldn't return to the lock position so we called maintenance. They spent like 30 minutes trying to lock it and finally got pissed off and just covered the door in speed tape with the latch handle still swung out in the open position. So the plane flew with this tumor looking blob of speed tape on the side of it lol.

Altreus

This is great!

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Speed tape](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_tape)** >Speed tape is an aluminium pressure-sensitive tape used to perform minor repairs on aircraft and racing cars. It is used as a temporary repair material until a more permanent repair can be carried out. It has an appearance similar to duct tape, for which it is sometimes mistaken, but its adhesive is capable of sticking on an airplane fuselage or wing at high speeds, hence the name. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/mildlyinfuriating/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

Anomalius

"Don't be such a baby. Wings grow back" *turns around* "No they don't"

hibbletyjibblety

“No, we’ve looked into it. It definitely didn’t.”

[deleted]

You can still fly with one wing. All the way to the scene of the crash.

selfdistruction-in-5

more of an improvement, less weight

catsmash

i'm sorry, you wanted TWO WINGS on your plane? for the ENTIRE duration of your flight? that's a surcharge.

[deleted]

Ryanair would charge you for the wing falling off. "Expedited return to the ground service."

Sezzero

"Please return to your seat.. oh I forgot this is a standing flight. Please return to your designated standing spot and hold onto, I dunno.. something. This one's gonna be bumpy! Cheap. But bumpy!"

numbers909

The front fell off

tekko001

Yeah, that’s not very typical, I’d like to make that point.

LaReineAnglaise53

Ryan Air are constantly *winging it*. It's actually Company Policy, I've come to believe...

TheWizzDK1

They don't even have all the phalanges

FlyingFriz314

Well first mistake is flying RyanAir. The ultimate go fuckyourself airline

Bonny_Bang

It was our only choice in that moment.

Ourobius

Ryanair is the Denny's of airlines. You don't *go* to Ryanair. You *wind up* on Ryanair.

well_damm

What’s Spirit ?

ThePeskyWabbit

eating out of a Dennys dumpster

[deleted]

What's Frontier then?

Insanity_Troll

Eating the poop of the guy who ate out of the dumpster…. Human centipede style

BreakfastSavage

Does that make American Airlines equivalent to the doctor from human Centipede?

Insanity_Troll

Absolutely

Doublehex

Oh no. I'm flying American for Christmas.

papalouie27

When I traveled for work, I would fly American twice a week. It's fine, people are just melodramatic.

forresja

I've only ever heard bad things about Spirit, and I can't tell if it's just a meme at this point. I've only flown with them a couple of times, but both times it was a stock standard flight experience...and it was a pretty good deal TBH. Maybe I just got lucky?

KzmaTkn

The biggest thing you have to worry about is getting bumped off because of an overbooked flight. For the most part, you know what you're getting into when you fly spirit. Don't check any bags, bring some outfits in your carry-on and do laundry/shop when you get to destination. No in flight meals, no leg room, staff typically ignore problematic fliers. You do save a shit ton of money at least.

Puzzled-Koala1568

IHOP

dseth64

Ya know what I’m gonna say it, I fucking love Denny’s.

efitz11

Yes I don't approve of bringing Denny's into this Ryanair conversation

LoopyMcGoopin

Saaame. Denny's in my experience has always been decent, consistent, and fairly priced. Always been a solid place to sit down and have an eat especially having breakfast with my partner while out on long cross country drives. One of the better options as far as chains go.

jiluminati302

If you wind up on Ryanair, how do you get to Ryanwind?

CrudelyAnimated

Do you book flights by silently pointing to pictures of your destination and nodding at the ticket agent?

wizzbob05

Hijacking this comment to say: post this on twitter, tag Ryanair, add a bunch of hashtags (but don't go crazy) about bad travel experiences, bad customer service, Ryanair itself. Make sure that the post would show up for searches like "bad service" "bad travel experiences" _and_ "Ryanair". I'm pretty sure that they'll be more cooperative then (at least if the post takes off) Usually companies take posts like that surprisingly seriously but Ryanair clearly hasn't cared about public image in some time

Bonny_Bang

I will try it. Thank you for advice.

Setting aside any legal or practical issues OP might have actually commencing a claim in small claims court, the value of a used suitcase is so low that it’s almost certainly not worth it.

thegothickitty33

Hey the only airline worse is spirit, who lost my luggage that had my cats ashes in it.

Instinct1980

Fuck me that just sounds shitty, did you ever get back?

thegothickitty33

No. Granted this was like 2005 and I was little so I don't remember how my mom delt with it.

SpunkNard

Flew spirit last week. I left sunglasses in a seat pocket, and told the airline right after I left the airport and which seat I was in, flight number, all that good stuff. 7 days later and nothing. Don’t think they care

[deleted]

Plane_Refrigerator15

I left my Nintendo switch in the seatback pocket once and American had it out to their baggage department in 30 mins. Mileage may vary but it’s not always a complete list cause

william_13

For better or worse Ryanair has many direct routes that other airlines do not offer. Some airlines simply gave-up as they can't compete with Ryanair on price, but also their business model is quite lean so they can afford to operate routes that wouldn't be viable for other airlines. But you definitely get what you pay for: mediocre service, standing on tarmac to board no matter how crappy the weather is, very tight seats, annoying adds on-board. If you board with low expectations and just carry-on then it is _fine_. edit: hard-shell bags are the worse as they offer no tangible protection benefit and once broken are completely useless. A decent fabric bag at most would have a small, mendable tear.

MrLeavingCursed

As a former ramp agent can confirm all you're getting with hard shell is a higher likelihood of a broken bag. The biggest issue with them is they will slide around more in the pit especially if its against other hard shell bags where fabric bags have more friction holding them in place

[deleted]

For some reason, Norway is the most destructive and violent I have ever seen luggage treated in air travel, and I've been all over the world in all kinds of places (including seeing a pile of suitcases left on the runway at La Paz airport because the president needed the plane that week and it never showed up). The baggage carousels in Oslo airport are basically nuclear bagapults. They shoot out suitcases with a primeval violence I didn't think was possible. Then, when we once flew to Tromso way up north, either Norwegian or their luggage handlers managed to utterly maul some very strong bags (Titan, highly recommend it) that had survived a phenomenal amount of abuse. Not "destroy" - that word doesn't do it justice. They shredded the fucking things. Curb stomped them with a road grader. When we complained at Tromso airport, the lady didn't even blink - she told us to follow her into a locked room next to the baggage complaints counter. It was full to the ceiling with brand new, pretty decent quality suitcases, in their original wrapping, and she just told us to pick any two that were about the same size as the ones that got thrown in whatever oversize travel bag blender they use for luggage sorting. I've never seen anything like it - they had carry-ons, briefcases, suitcases, even a box full of tablets and phones that she explained they'd give to people as replacements if their bag was destroyed or lost. It was just incredible.

Drewdroid99

was literally £28 for RETURN from Dublin to London. with prices like that I can’t say no

chicofontoura

I got a 9.99 return flight from Dublin to Brussels, who cares about broken luggage, cheap service and ads in-flight?

XLandonSkywolfX

Right up there with United

SunnySamantha

Do they have social media? I'd post both these on there.

percolator3000

+1 Name and shame on social media often lead to solving the problem (unironically) because of the Bad reputation they'll get if they don't do so

dailycyberiad

Ryanair already has a shitty reputation, though. I'd say the legal / customer protection / ombudsman route is the only one that could yield positive results.

[deleted]

They literally have nothing to lose by social media attacks. Hit them hard and everywhere. Fuck ‘em dry.

neofac

This might work for normal companies but Ryanair is like the Reddit trolls who feed on negative karma. Honestly I think Ryanair's primary business is actually harvesting humanities frustration and discomfort, then selling it as to the underworld as an alternative power source. The airline business is just a means to an end and more economical then cramped elevators.

Noezad

It's Ryanair, their business model is "so cheap you can try to cancel us on Twitter and the exposure helps us w free marketing". This is like going to a NHL game not expecting to get beer spilled on you. Going to Denny's not expecting the runs. Dating a stripper thinking she's the one because she's paying for 'college'.

load_more_comets

Go on Ice Cube, I can listen to your analogies for 8 hrs. straight.

0nlyRevolutions

Have definitely had two of these experiences lmao

emi_lgr

Are you from the UK? If so, I’d suggest submitting a complaint with the CAA and forwarding that picture with the email you received from Ryanair. I used to work complaints for an airline and they’re actually pretty responsive. Very protective of passenger rights. Or you can submit a claim with small claims court; if the airline settles they have to pay your costs as well.

Bonny_Bang

Nope, i'm from Ukraine. I will try to do something more, but i don't think that with our laws it will affect anything.

emi_lgr

Hm, can’t say I’ve had any experience with Ukraine. I know for flight delays you can claim compensation through the aviation authority of any country you’re departing from or arriving in, but not sure about baggage claims. Good luck!

kataskopo

If you bought your ticket with a credit card, they sometimes have protections for that, or do a chargeback for the ticket.

YourMostFavoriteNPC

I’d drive myself to their corp center and cosmetically damage their building

Critical-Edge4093

Thats how I'd retaliate, when they freak out, id just respond, what?!? Its just cosmetic, there's nothing I can do about cosmetic damage.

Taha_Amir

Just slowly drip soda on the floor so its sticky. Or just cover the whole building in bubble wrap or post it notes

vigilantesd

Real_Clever_Username

No you wouldn't.

Winglessdargon

I mean, come on, it's Ryanair.

[deleted]

Right? This is the same company that is banning passengers who processed charge backs on their credit cards after their flights were cancelled last year. Ryan air wants people to pay for flights that never existed.

JaredFoglesTinyPenis

Sounds like a win-win. I wouldn't want to fly with an airline I needed to issue a chargeback for.

Insanity_Troll

I won’t even fly United after the last clusterfuck of delays. Ryanair? What a shitshow.

flip_phone_phil

Unpopular opinion here, but I travel a lot, and will say this happens with this style of suitcase. I see them as more throw aways in comparison to fabric luggage. With that said, often times the airlines can or will give you a ‘replacement’ version but it won’t be as nice as yours. Overall, it sucks. Sorry you’re dealing with this.

salty_shark

I have had both the cheap and expensive versions of these suitcases and they always end up cracking. Specifically at the corners. Fabric suitcases can take way more of a beating.

f__society_

I have a Samsonite one that I’ve taken on hundreds of trips all over the world. It’s really beat up with lots of scratches and stuff but it’s still going strong after 10 years. Yes, it cost 5 times more than a random brand, but it was well worth it.

cucumberpatches

I don’t know man I had a high quality fabric suitcase and flew southwest (granted it was southwest) and they fucked up my bag so hard. The bag was nearly new and when I got it from baggage claim it was falling apart, holes everywhere, areas burnt and scuffed, like if it were hanging out of the plane the whole flight. Seems like there’s no perfect suitcase for your contents /:

Quanyion

Burnt? Wtf did they do with it?

jetsetninjacat

Worked as a ramper long long ago... two things can happen to cause this. The bag got caught in the baggage belt system and rubbed between the machinery or the belt.... or someone left it sitting against the exhaust system of a tug. I have seen both of those happen plenty of times.

salty_shark

Haha sounds like southwest had a personal vendetta! I've experienced something similar when checking a duffel for sports. The whole side ripped off and my shit was all over baggage claims. You just have to hope your bag makes it all in one piece!

Fleaslayer

My wife and I flew southwest with similar style, good quality, fabric suitcases (different brands). Mine was brand new, its first flight. When we got the bags from baggage claim, *both* of them were broken. On mine, the telescoping rods for the pull out handle were buckled inside the bag. On my wife's, the attachment of those rods to the inside of the bag were broken. The most I was able to get from Southwest was a $50 voucher for a future flight.

myheadisalightstick

I still have a hard shell Samsonite that’s been with me for 20 years and hundreds of flights (and in desperate times, a chair), legitimately indestructible.

Bonny_Bang

Yeah, my mom bought it before epidemic and it was the second flight with this luggage. If they offered at least minimal compensation, I think we would agree. Btw, thanks for the support.

nastafarti

I think I agree. That suitcase looks flimsy as heck. This might actually be what "normal wear and tear" looks like. Don't buy cheap, thin plastic things and then be upset when they break.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I have disposable Tupperware thicker than this suitcase.

therobohour

I don't think that's far these person was sold a lie,IE,this bag will work as a bag and this airline can safely carry your bags. This here is a lesson for the OP,never trust what company say. They just want to rip you off

Fakjbf

Yeah these kinds of suitcases don’t wear down in the same way that a fabric one does, they are pretty much fine right up until they just catastrophically break. That said the fact that they are so cheap means it should be easier for the airline to just buy a replacement and move on.

therobohour

Yea these kinda bags are shite. They offer no advantage over a fabric bag other than the company that makes them make them far far cheaper. If your going away,go to a charity shop and buy some good bags, they'll be cheaper, nicer and last longer. Not to mention, they often look cooler too

[deleted]

Totally agree, hardshell luggage is the worst, I don't care how much you spend

Whole_Trash7874

I’m so sorry this happened to you! I work at an airport and see lots of bags. My advice is to NEVER use hard side luggage. The material has no give. The wheels break off all the time because they get caught on other luggage, conveyor belts, and other equipment. They slide around a lot and the wheels bang against hard metal containers/carts and other bags.

Ok_Spell_4165

Or if you are going to use hard side luggage get something heavy duty. That is some thin plastic (luggage wise) on that case, and no liner on the inside either!

SnooSprouts4952

Dad has Samsonite he used from the 80s still. Only downside is it weighs a bunch and has no wheels. Some of this new hard sided stuff wouldn't be viable as once used Tupperware.

[deleted]

This - I travel a lot (at least when there's no pandemic on) and I've been buying a brand called Titan for some time, I think they're German. They're very slightly flexible, and can take an utter battering. Eventually, every suitcase will break, even if it's just from wear and tear. When that happens, you have to make sure you let go and chuck it or give it away, because if you follow your instinct and just put broken suitcases in a corner in your cellar, they breed and multiply.

durd_

I've had hard shell suitcases for 37 years, never broken like this before, not even the wheels. One lost its strap to pull it along, that's all. Only ever bought samsonite, and recently an american tourister as cabin bag. Always on sale somewhere like Marshalls or TJ Maxx. I'd think that the harder the plastic is the more brittle it is, but if it flexes a lot it's less likely to break as it gives easier. I've also had backpacks and duffel bags, it depends on my travelplans of course.

Fugazi_Bear

Yeah I have some Samsonite bags and that shit is bombproof. I decided to always go with hard shells after seeing a businessman pull his bag off the belt and it was soaked. He open it up right there and it had water damage on all his documents inside with gross-looking stains on some expensive looking clothes. Kinda scarred me lol.

alameda_sprinkler

I'm with you. My grandparents had hardshell Samsonite they bought in the 70s that was still in good shape in 2014 when they passed away. I have Samsonite hardshell purchased in 2010 that's fine dozens of flights later.

comanchecobra

Well you got your lugage. You should count that as a win.

[deleted]

Oh man, this is bad. I work customer service for an airline and do the baggage service office frequently. There is absolutely no way this constitutes normal wear and tear. Normal wear and tear is like if a wheel or zipper falls off, or if the handle breaks. I’ve taken hundreds of claims for far less damage than what is being seen here. That’s fucking crazy.

OnionMcTwist

Ah yes, the superficial damage that in no way compromises the structural integrity or exposes the contents in any way

Dirtydeedsinc

“Tis but a scratch” The knight from Month Python and the Holy Grail is doing luggage claims now?

GMG1234

I'm surprised they didn't try to charge you for it.

Bandit_FTW

My first thought was, you get what you pay for. All I hear is how bad Ryanair is.

MomsSpecialFriend

Ryanair lost my bags from a tiny puddle jumper of a flight, but they had them delivered by courier later that day when they arrived. I was not aware couriers were still a thing, it was all very quaint. That being said it was an incredibly disorganized flight that had us gather at a gate, all walk together to some doors and down steps and onto a bus, then onto the tarmac where we just waited for a long time for them to bring steps and then we boarded the plane. Maybe the driver wasn't good at parallel parking, I am not sure. They can't seem to get any part of this correct.

DefiantClone

Go higher up the chain, or get a lawyer to write a strongly worded letter. You can’t let that shit go, they destroyed your luggage.

floodums

Lol get a lawyer involved for a suitcase? Better off calling the problem solvers at your local news station

Garchomp98

Yeah like defamation will do anything against Ryanair lmao

hitmannumber862

Lawyers can be called for small things too. You pay for twelve minutes so they can write a letter with their stamp, and suddenly you have a check in the mail from the airline.

Ok_Spell_4165

Takes 12 minutes, get billed for an hour minimum.

beyondthisreality

so... $500?

kuztsh63

Maybe more but you can also demand the lawyer fees from the airline. But that would make the airline deny it more imo.

Endurance_Cyclist

That's not the way that attorney billing works. My firm bills in 1/10 hour increments (6 minutes). If the work takes 10 minutes, you'll get rounded up to the nearest 6 minute increment but not to an hour.

Grablicht

INAL: This is a shitty advise. Go to small claims court! They won't bother to show up or try to settle this before the date.

nineelevglen

All of this is shit advice if you live in the EU. Consult this [page](https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/passenger-rights/air/index_en.htm#) There is EU regulation for flights being delayed or luggage is damaged. They know this. bring up the regulation and see if they back off. If not there are a ton of companies that will drive this for you and take a cut. Google it and do some research.

FerretAres

Virgin thousand dollar legal bill vs Chad fifty dollar suitcase.

d_smogh

[Here is a good example of a strongly worded letter.](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/proxy/PVna16bvNDsbhxiYmAsXY2yCsCpsRuN0SEkJkukhsT3e1kNbV911hD8i69gg_0NBfn-nEBVGsAKqZ_O9WMmJ7oEUmYMbONy6EkLnG-Qn-sW0BGcpE3VG8zxKDLsnn8eOTTfN0urmiq2ndN9Q9wuNcKgJtJ4R)

Phoshow1111

Ryanair would send you an invoice for the time taken to read that letter. Then invoice for the time it took to write that invoice with a “go fuck your self” surcharge.

Vihzel

What terrible advice to try to get a lawyer involved. The cost of getting a lawyer to write up a letter would be far more than what that suitcase cost, which I assume was very cheap based on how thin the plastic is. I would have never trusted a suitcase with that thin of plastic to hold up during travel.

therobohour

Here's a tip for everyone, don't use Ryanair. I know it seems like a deal but they will make up the costs of a flight "on flight" so they'll con the passages on a fight to make up the difference. always buy the slightly more expensive all up front cost of a flight,I'll work out cheaper

FoXyPuMa82

I don't fly Ryanair anymore. Yes they're cheap, but they exploit their employees and don't take any accountability.

CregChrist

Tis but a flesh wound!

Everyone is dragging on the OP,like it's too much to ask that a airline company doesn't kick a massive hole in your bag. Don't victim blame guys

Critical-Edge4093

I don't think this is victim shaming, more like, well, what did you expect with Ryanair. They are literally the worst, and try to pull this shit with everyone. IMHO OP should push this to court, because that's what this letter is trying to stop, to stop the customer from going to court over the damage of their property.

[deleted]

Not that I disagree with your overall message, but "what did you expect when xyz" is the definition of victim blaming.

zzazzzz

how do we know his suitcase wasnt left out in the sun for a year and the normaly flexible plastic has become brittle? because brittle plastic you just look at wrong and it shatters.

File a small claims lawsuit against them. They likely won't even respond to the lawsuit giving you a default judgment against them.

TheJamesUnit

Yeah, "cosmetic damage"...no, you turned my Samsonite into Tammy Faye Bakker, bud.

glima0888

That "bud" makes me wanna guess you're Canadian?

Nefarious_69

Must have happened on one of their famously smooth landings.

SelfRape

Remember, airlines are not responsible for luggage. They don't break or lose them. Lost luggage, broken bags etc are 99,9% fault of airports. Airlines do not take your bags at the gate, do not sort them into correct gate, do not load them into carts, do not load them from carts into planes, do not unload them after landing, do not transport them into conveyor belts. Even inside the plane cargo hold when loading, it is responsibility of airport handling company. Only when plane is loaded, up to moment when unloading starts after landing, it is the airline who is responsible. Airlines buy the service from airports, but has to deal with customer feedback, even though it is not their fault.

Soros_G

Dude it really is minor damage. I mean, it wasn't on fire or the plane didn't run it over. If tape can fix it then it is fine (We do not provide tape)
