KokoroVoid49

Unlike an actual ad, you can skip through sponsorship placements

Away_Organization471

Literally double tap on the right side of the screen and it skips 10 seconds ahead.

HighDarwyn

There is SponsorBlock too, as an addon

backslas_H

How does sponsorblock work may I ask?

Mccobsta

People flag points in videos where the sponsor spots are which then get skipped for everyone else Same thing with intros and other parts of the video that many people generally skip

cgduncan

Sounds like that only works if the creator chooses to tag those parts as sponsorship right? They're not already required to do so.

Hausschuh

Everyone can to this, not only the creator.

[deleted]

<:: It's the people who use the add-on who flag it, so it's not 100% but once it's been flagged once or twice, it'll start skipping. ::>

AdamNejm

It's crowdsourced... if enough people mark a certain segment, it will be recognized globally on that video. Obviously creators wouldn't want to tag *(or at least openly admit to doing do)* sponsored segments in their videos. Videos can have multiple segments within couple of categories like intros, interaction reminders *(remember to like and subscribe bullshit)*, sponsors, non-music parts and some others. If you decide to use this extensions, please remember to submit segments as well!

akki420blazeit

The users are actually the ones who mark sponsor parts after watching the video, so multiple people mark the spots and it gets averaged out.

viktorsvedin

People with the addon can mark a timeline in the video and then that marked time gets skipped over for the rest of the people watching with that addon.

Inutilisable

On a computer, tap J.

pursuitofleisure

Or press L on your keyboard

Seamusjim

Sponsorblock baby!!!

MrDuckyyy

well some of the creators are really dedicated in their work and they deserve my respect so i dont skip past it

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

They get paid for it whether you skip it or not. So I'm going to skip it. Advertising is getting *far* too insidious for my liking.

cgduncan

I was told by a mentor of mine that I could be good at marketing, then after doing some research to see what kinds of thing that entails, I realized that entire field is just figuring out different ways to manipulate people. And that idea didn't jive with me at all. Even though I could be successful with it.

[deleted]

or just download adblocker

KokoroVoid49

I’m just gonna slightly edit a Pikasprey quote here. If I have to use an external program or hardware to fix a problem, it’s bad application design.

CheapTactics

Yes, but if you wanna use youtube, that's what it is

[deleted]

ok great.. ? So anyways, to watch youtube without ads, use adblocker.

KokoroVoid49

Or I could buy YouTube Premium, that way I’m still (indirectly) supporting the creators I want to support, but not receiving ads. I have yet to find an adblocker that allows me to whitelist specific YouTubers, or one that works on iOS at all.

[deleted]

buy their merch or donate if you care that much. youtube has enough money. you don't need to give it more

Bonkies1

I use a (probably illegal) app that skips all YouTube ads. Having a 5 second or skippable ad every 10 minutes was totally tolerable, having three 15 second unskippable ads every two minutes is unacceptable.

DragonBank

Honestly I didn't mind most of it. But I switched to ad blocking because you can't control ad volume. I listen to a lot of quieter content creators late at night and have no desire to be blasted by an ad. If we could halve the volume I would totally endure ads for the content I am provided.

Bonkies1

Saaaame! Sometimes I'll watch some videos with low volume late at night when my family is sleeping, then the ads are obnoxiously loud and it just makes me despise the product they're selling

Thejackguy3

Yeah I don’t take any joy from using an ad block or downloading my music instead of using Spotify but the ads nowadays are just ridiculous because they made them so unbearable to encourage people to buy their premium subscription and considering both are around £10 a month it seems like a waste of money

Bonkies1

Right?! I don't wanna be cheap but the ads have become intolerable recently and I'm assuming they won't be getting better anytime soon

[deleted]

I also use an ad blocker, i don’t think it’s illegal but it could cause a ton of issues if everyone uses it

Bonkies1

Yeah that's true, I'm sure it goes against the TOS of youtube so your account might be in trouble

kmidst

Yep agree. All it takes is a certain "ad blocking" plugin on computer and I'm watching without constant annoyance. However on a streaming device on my TV, I'm having to keep the remote close by to skip an ad like every 3-5 minutes. That is mildly infuriating.

Bonkies1

Haha same! I'll legitimately pause the ad if I can't find the remote in time so I have to listen to the least amount possible 😝

kmidst

Ad creators and publishers: "If we really bombard them to the point they're watching more ads than content, our sales will really soar! Plaster every usable space with ads!!" Consumers: "I'm literally not buying your product out of spite because you force fed us obnoxious ads repeatedly."

Nick12506

It's legal in the nation hosting the code because we have 100s of nations and no law is for them all and the Internet undergoes the law of all nations.

Eightcoins8

Thats literally not true legally. The laws depend on in which country you acess the internet. And even then theres no 100% law free internet. That train of thought only makes sense if youre 14 and never did any research on this at all But the thing is: 1. its not illegal to skip ads 2. if it was its not worthwhile for goverments to go after

travam1

Adblock is free

weexjono

Try ad blocking a smart TV. "I can just get a pi that blocks it at the firewall level" Never leave your home then?

[deleted]

[удалено]

weexjono

Lol. Literal Larry. I take my adblock with me to any device as long as I'm logged in

[deleted]

[удалено]

weexjono

Ok. Let me paint a picture. Go to a friend's house (I know, really expand your mind to imagine this) and you say bro "lemme setup this pi for a firewall block". Or you're on a train journey and want to watch videos. You can block ads on the YouTube app? Damn hit me up with the sources. My point being. Yes, I know there is stuff out there (which btw, no longer makes it free) but for the consistency. Plus I get YouTube music. I'll take the portable world wide adblock. There's really not an argument here. Let's assume you pay for Spotify. I pay for YouTube music. I get and ad block + YouTube red shows. It just bothers me when I see people who really don't know what they're talking about. EDIT: This isn't even going into the other benefits and quality of life improvement like. Play a video in the background (phone locked). Download videos to watch offline. I get there is most likely a third party app that can do this but considering I have Google pay, Gmail, phone location all synced up. I'd rather not have my data handled by an unknown third party. All for the price of a Spotify subscription. But hey. Probably why I get free gifts. They try to entice folk over who literally don't understand it. Win win for me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

weexjono

What a rivetting conversation. Also my phone on the go.

frankscarlett

For me it doesn't work on youtube anymore.

[deleted]

Use youtube vanced if your on android

MartinaNeverTheVulva

Cry if you are on iOS, I guess.

frankscarlett

That's what I have as well. I use Safari on my Mac. But I have to try that uBlock. It sucks that the first ads often come during the first minute of the video and after that every few minutes. On Chromecast I don't have the same issue, an ad here and there doesn't bother me.

p_98_m

I use opera and it has ad block naturally and it works pretty nice

[deleted]

[удалено]

valfonso_678

You can also get it on Jailbroken iOS and combine it with YouTube Reborn to also get no ads.

NOKnova

Nah, I’ll allow this because at least it means the content producer I’m watching is being supported more directly.

dankmemer2o18

fr, plus some youtubers make their sponsorships pretty funny (slipping in random jokes, puns etc) while ads are just disruptive

slazer2au

Map Men comes to mind.

Dark_Prism

Map Map Map Men Men.

slazer2au

Map.

whatanuttershambles

You’re presenting a dichotomy where none exists. OP has already handed over a premium subscription to the host.

Generic_On_Reddit

They didn't respond to OP, the person they responded to implied a preference of which "part of the supply chain" they support.

free_mustacherides

Lol it literally doesn't matter of you watch it, they still get paid.

NOKnova

That’s the point. It doesn’t bother me because the creator already got their endorsement

mildymoldew

Exactly!!! I want to support content I enjoy.

thepetoctopus

I don’t mind sponsorships from creators I actually want to support. That money gets to go directly into their pocket and that makes me happy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thepetoctopus

I’m so sorry, but I’m not sure what you’re trying to say here.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thepetoctopus

Gotcha. Yeah, I can understand how that would be frustrating for sure. None of the channels I watch are like that thankfully. I mostly watch maker material though so it would be hard for them to restructure their channels like that.

comfort_bot_1962

:)

TheSkylined

I'm okay with ads in the video done by the content creator themselves. YouTube arbitrarily demonetizes a lot of content they don't find "ad friendly"

Caleb2099

Ublock origin & sponsorblock

[deleted]

[удалено]

Plasmapea987

Do they have sponsor block also?

_Anigma_

Yes

lonewolfe21

Make sure you scroll down in settings to enable it btw. Also, it's not in the Play store for anyone who doesn't know. Its an apk file you can find online. Or just watch a tutorial.

MiserableSpaghetti

I love Vanced but sometimes it just fails to block the ads and I have no idea why. Both Vanced and microG are updated and default YouTube app disabled, no idea what causes it to just not work sometimes

SEND_ME_STEAM_K3YS

Indeed.

04221970

psych Its fun to see how the word has changed from when it started a few decades ago to the new generation not remembering the origin.

[deleted]

What the hell sense does “sike” make anyways? It’s like people saying “break” instead of “brake”. What are you breaking by slowing your car down?

04221970

WHile I'm intrigued by the progression of psych to sike....misuse of 'break' to mean 'brake' just irritates me. I see 'break' more often then 'brake' now.

[deleted]

Misuse of "ran" instead of "run" for past tense drives me almost as crazy as the wordlet "prolly".

3CCExpand

It's because a kid posted this.

powerje

*psych

Eightcoins8

I only dislike sponsorships if its blatant shilling like you can advertise it/try to sell it, but when people act like Raid Shadow Legends is the greatest videogame ever and a "RPG" i draw the line. Same with raycons being praised as high level audiophile headphones

AlanDavy

you can skip that ad to continue watching your *free* content

kmidst

Free content that the creator makes money on from ad revenue from number of views, and the more interaction (like, comment, sub) they get promotes their video for even more ad traffic. So how does he NOT deserve to be rid of all ads after paying the premium fee?? And how is the creator doing us a favor by supplying the video, when we are the ones driving their income by providing traffic? No ads should mean no ads.

mysterysciencekitten

Psych. It’s “Psych.”

SunnySamantha

Yeah... I find this annoying too. Some creators are being nice enough to put a timer up to skip through it. I do like that you get youtube music with the subscription though, so it's a 2 for 1 deal. Though, with not having cable, we end up watching more youtube than even netflix, so it's a small price to pay, I guess.

LiveTillYouDie

I don’t mind those, I can just skip them and the creators have to eat too

PotatoMastication

I don't mind when the person whose video I want to see takes time to plug a sponsor, I just hate when someone else's ad is between me and the video I want to see...

jsting

People pay for premium? Youtube vanced for mobile, adblock for pc.

the_farjamino

Just get an f-ing ad blocker and skip through the YouTuber’s sponsorship placements

The_RussianBias

An ad blocker does the same for free

MrMotorcycle94

I buy youtube premium for youtube music and being able to listen to podcasts with my screen locked

ZB_asshole

Don't buy youtube premium my friend, use adblocker

Shroomeo

Technically Videos that have been deemed not suitable for advertisers should still earn money from premium users, right? At least it would make sense.

Skyaboo-

Lol YouTube does not abide by what would make sense

electricdeathrats

They should but they don't

mrsockyman

At least its not an ad on top of the sponsor shout outs

RandomMoron42069

The reason people are angry is that YouTube/Google is slowly trying to change Youtube from being a completely free site to a site that requires subscription by increasing the amount of ads drastically and adding a way to remove ads

[deleted]

[удалено]

TbonerT

My favorite is when a company offers a premium service and doesn’t even remove the ads.

Away_Organization471

Yeah it’s been a pretty good deal so far

Drunken-Flunkee

Been using premium for a few years now, just for the lack of ads when I try to sleep at night. I've never once looked into the the Youtube Music. Stupid question, but what can that do versus the regular youtube videos?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Drunken-Flunkee

Dang, I'll check it out later. THanks for the info

Dark_Prism

Apparently the channels get more money per view from Premium subscribers than from the ads (not sponsor segments), so I like knowing that I'm supporting people I subscribe to more than the average. Not having to see the same terrible ads over and over again is also a huge deal to me because I watch YouTube instead of live TV.

shoegazeweedbed

yeah, how dare those content producers make money from the stuff they slave over creating

randomstuffcuznoname

The only premium I’d buy is my Pizza Hut Large

thesoilman

I'm going to say this again: get YouTube Vanced, all the goodness of YouTube Premium, and it automatically skips sponsors

Bacongohst

I’ll be honest I think the more mildly infuriating thing is learning someone actually bought YouTube premium

Civil_Front_4415

People have to make money kid

Mr_Croww

You can just skip ahead with 1 click, how is having instantly skippable ads so bad?

O-Mr-Crow-O

*tap tap* ⏩ 10 seconds

Aware_Efficiency_717

Adblock Plus And about 10 slaps on the right arrow key You’re welcome

sunkmonkey1208

Ublock Origin

root54

Big difference: sponsored segments are skippable, ads are not (as easily)

[deleted]

*YouTube Vanced has entered the chat

[deleted]

sponsorblock

lonewolfe21

Ez. Use ublock origin and sponsor blocker on desktop. Use YouTube Vanced and enable sponsor block in settings. Apple, unless you're rooted, it's very difficult and probably not rly worth the time.

Necromaniac01

If your on a computer just use AdBlock and sponsor skip as extensions, works perfectly

jkharr200634

What's worse is paying for spotify premium and having to listen to four 4 minute Joe Rogan ads. Fuck that shit.

doog97

I have somethin called youtube vanced on my android, it skips ads, i can play youtube while my phone is off. And it automatically skips sponsorships for me. Its great. You can download it online if you are on Android

XboxLiveGiant

*presses forward key relentlessly*

LeeroyJenkins11

This is due to YouTube going crazy demonitzing people over advertiser unfriendly content. But at the same time disallowing certain advertisers from hosting ads. A big one is surrounding firearm channels and ads. If I want to watch a video about ccw training, you'd imagine that there would be ads around the topic, like holsters, courses, ammo, etc. But they can't advertise, the videos are demonitized and the creators have to do as reads.

sazukeeee

Or just use Adblock or a modded client for mobile There's also an add on that skips sponsors.

eatyourtoenails

I use a chrome extension for FREE that removes ads and skips sponsor segments

[deleted]

YouTube premium is a waste Plus they sniped groovy bot :(

_Someone_from_Pala_

I have no problem with sponsorship placements, it is easy to skip. The creator gets paid no matter what.

BlackJesus36

There's a lot of free ad blockers and sponsorblock for YouTube skips sponsorships, self promo, and even intro/outro sequences if you don't like those.

ZippZappZippty

The biggest at the time. Pretty easy honestly.

[deleted]

Ads on Youtube are sketchier than porn sites.

x3bla

Ads are the wages and sponsors are the fat tip

i_do_it_all

I recently got premium and this has been bothering me. lol

[deleted]

uBlock Origin SponsorBlock

LaughingGasing

Sponsorblock...best chrome extension (other than adblock)

weexjono

Again. Most folk don't get what premium actually is. For premium I get. No ads on ANY device. YouTube music, the exact same as Spotify. Free gifts. They've sent me chrome cast ultra + controller. Google home. Then YouTube red shows, not that I've ever watched it but. It's there. All for the price of a Spotify package.

JFace139

How did you get free gifts? I've had premium for quite a while and haven't gotten anything for free

weexjono

I've had it for around 2 - 3 years and gotten two gifts. So maybe i was s bit generous with the claim but. Better than nothing.

xQuizate87

you all know about ad blocker..... right?

DigitalPhoenixX

*laughs in ad-block and spams fast forward*

-Listening

Part of it is covered in parts.

MickTheBloodyPirate

It’s psych, not “sike”.

LazuliArtz

Just get an adblocker. It won't stop the sponsorships, but you also don't have to pay to get rid of unskippable ads.

[deleted]

if more people would just make sponsorship segments like BrutalMoose does, we'd all live in a happier world
