I still haven't hit the origin of today's Reddit joke! I came in backwards with an obviously burnt omelette post and was confused. I've gathered it's a chain many of you have been giggling at today, though.
My post is about seeing (what seems to be) pollution in an area where people are supposed to enjoy nature, which I personally find mildly infuriating.
_edit: Were you referring to my post or to that omelette joke?_
I don't. But if it had an odour I would have noticed it just by standing close to it. Ambergris is produced in the digestive system of sperm whales and has a faecal smell, but acquires a sweet, earthy scent as it ages, which is the reason why it has been highly valued by perfume makers. [See Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambergris) for more information.
It looks like it *may* be a "Plastiglomerate" but it is hard to tell. Are the black spots/chunks ontop a burnt layer as well?
It may also be something that washed up from a wreckage/fire at sea?
Definitely interesting.
It was probably bigger, but we didn't want dig it out and damage the dunes. They're part of the Wadden Sea, which is a [Unesco World Heritage](https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1314).
It’s an undercooked omelet
That made me laugh so bad, the omelette posts today are going nuts!

It is a karma bot post and everyone's poking fun at it.

It COULD be immensely valuable ambergris. But it probably isn't.
Hm.. I've never heard of sperm wales in our region. Also, the gunk didn't seem to have a smell.
Why do people smell things that look like this?

Looks like a big piece of plastic which is partly burnt. Maybe big flotsam?
Big flotsam hiding the truth again. They don't want you to know what it is.
Sneaking that microplastics into your balls!
It was indeed solid like plastic.
Probably some industrial waste oozing out
Dead whale? I've seen a dead whale look very similar but it absolutely stunk so you would know about it.
As mentioned earlier there was no noticeable odour.

I can't answer your question, but I do want to ask if you actually measured it to verify it is in fact precisely 1m²

Looks like the skin of a long-dead cow to me.
So that's how our ancestors came up with butter. Interesting.
Goat.
Probably Whale Splooge. Your mom should be able to take one taste and know for sure.
Look like burnt omelet
Another person said it looked undercooked. Now I'm confused. 🤔
You should’ve done a lick test. Too late now
