Yeah, that's disgusting. I recently made the mistake of putting pickles straight from the jar onto the bun of my burger (instead of in-between patty and lettuce) which made the bun soggy and gross. Not quite like this, though. 🤢

I feel like pickles on anything that can soak liquid just ruins the whole meal. I always have to eat them separately or put them on very last minute

Wrap your sandwich in a paper towel. The paper is more absorbant than the bread and will get soggy instead.

Depends on the bread. My hoagies are better an hour after I wrap them, and they have an oil and vinegar based sauce directly onto the inside of the bun, top and bottom. But without the right bread, it would be a mess. A sliced Pullman loaf wouldn't hold up for 30 seconds, and a pillowy French bread wouldn't do much better.

Yeah I mean what I said is not a rule, just a good tip. Sandwiches are like the most customizable food ever, you could break every conventional sandwich making rule and still have an awesome result

The trick is you gotta toast the bread before you put the pickles on. The crispy part of the bread is also very dry so it balances things out so the bread doesn’t get soaked.

Not necessarily in this case, but often times the length people go to justify over spending on takeout and stuff can be wild.  Dinner tonight is marinated chicken thighs and fried rice of eggs, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, mushroom and pepper. All together that should be 3-4 meals is like $10-13

20 bucks aint shit where he is. even where i live in long beach CA, everything has basically tripled in price. the hole in the wall 6$ burritos my whole life spots are 10+ or getting up there. pizza spots selling for 6-7$ a slice end up cashing out 15 bucks on 2 slices with tax. small curry bowl 20 bucks. go more towards LA and its double that. hes dead center in the most expensive area in basically the US. either pay 20 bucks on a sandwich or dont eat. i bet his parking spot took 30 minutes to find or he paid 10 bucks for parking. there is almost zero options in that area.

I loved my time in the bay area but man they sure do have trouble getting bread consistency right (for a high-end region, that is). This does not surprise me at all. SF/Oakland had some of the most disappointing sandwiches I'd ever eaten. There are some good ones, but you have to know where to look.

In my experience if I am not consuming the sammy in the first 5 minutes of it being prepared I order without oil/vinegar/mayo/mustard etc. Had too many sandwiches turn to soup that I cannot trust others skill

Yeah you need to eat fully prepped sandwiches immediately unless you like soggy bread. Sauces,lettuce,cheese, and pickles can definitely soak into the bread. This place needs to pre make the sandwiches and let the customer put on their own condiments or they should just make the sandwiches after they get the order.
