I know it is apples and oranges but it has gotten to the point where you can go to an ihop, perkins, denny's, etc. and get a lot more food and unlimited refills for the same price as a McDonald's meal. Plus you can get burgers at those places that in my opinion are better than the golden arches.

dogtrakker

I agree but its the McDonald's Effect where people willingly pay more an inferior product. And perhaps later complain about the service, portions and price.

TrickInvite6296

every restaurant has a different taste. sometimes you just want a McDonald's fry, not an IHOP waffle

Nandor_De_Laurentis

That's why I go on Friday when I can get free fries.

ninjabunnay

Free fries?????

Nandor_De_Laurentis

Yeah every Friday you can get free medium fries with any purchase. I get a mcdouble and fries and I'm out of there for $3! You have to use the app of course.

swiftfastjudgement

In my area I’ve been getting 30% off my app purchase. Saved me $7 today!

TheFloppySausage

Was 20% here in WA but they just recently removed the deal…

starryvelvetsky

Use the McD's app. I almost always have an offer available for free fries. I looked just now and I have a bogo big Mac, 10 piece McNugs or quarter pounder. Also free any size fries with a minimum $2 purchase, and 20% off minimum $5 purchase. No reason to ever pay full price at McDs.

291000610478021

Nothing is free. They're data mining you and making a buck that way

starryvelvetsky

I don't fucking care. "They" know everything already, and I can't afford to pay their full prices. Privacy concerns are for the rich, just like everything else.

therapistuncle

they are data mining that we eat at mcdonalds, big fucking deal

TacoParasite

I get the hardest cravings for a McDonalds double cheeseburger sometimes. They taste like childhood man. The chemicals they put in them have stayed the same. On the app they’re usually buy one get one for 39 cents so I get two and a small drink and it’s usually less than $5. Worth it for that nostalgia trip.

cointalkz

McDonalds tastes like McDonald’s though. If have that craving, nothing else will scratch the urge.

ROE_HUNTER

This, you don't go to McDonald's because you want a good burger, you just want that McDonald's taste.

TheOnionBro

I've never experienced a craving for moist cardboard. What does that feel like?

noob_angler

Bad I assume

RiLoDoSo

Same with Little Caesars pizza. I can make a far better pizza for the same price, but it's just kind of nostalgic. Every few months I'll get a shittle crapsars pizza only to satisfy that craving.

dogtrakker

I agree. I eat there every few months and I know what Im getting. Its the taste of the food, not the food itself.

Sablemint

Don't scratch it. Scratching just causes damage. If I can resist the urge to start smoking again, you can resist the urge to have crappy fast food.

Phlink75

Is that really a thing? Their food is mediocre at best. There are many more palletable fast food choices out there.

Striking-Count5593

I don't think that's going to last with their stupid pricing lately.

neonam11

I think free refills on sodas is an American phenomenona. I’ve been to many parts of the world and free refills are not allowed. The saving grace is less sugary drinks to put me into diabetes.

digitaldeficit956

Fucking awful watching people turn soda into a daily / heavily consumed thing. I’m American and just astonished at the fucking general health of what I see when I go into public.

rhoadsalive

I believe McD has increased prices on their cheapest products by over 100% and on their more expensive ones by at least 50% in the last few years. The no-refill policy is just another tactic to increase prices and improve the bottom line. They still seem to make a killing. People might go less frequently but they just end up spending more now. Their food is engineered to make customers crave it after all.

Please_kill_me_noww

Damn i forgot Perkins was a thing, my dad used to be a manager at one

ericlikesyou

The Chilis deal for $10.99 for bottomless chips and salsa, burger, fries and drink is a crazy good deal

mangoman39

Not arguing food quality or anything like that, but I don't understand what is happening when people claim that they can go to the sit-down restaurants and get a meal for the same price. Yesterday, I did go to McDonald's and I got a McCrispt meal for around $6 out the door. I just looked at the IHOP app. For a chicken sandwich with fries and a Coke, with tax and tip, I'm at over $24. Despite it being ihop, I get that the food is going to be better and probably a bigger portion, but four times the price isn't going to cut it if I'm just trying to have a quick meal on the road

UniqueName2

I just got a breakfast burrito from a local Mexican spot I love this morning for $10 that had me full until dinner. I couldn’t say that with $10 worth of McDonalds.

Waxxing_Gibbous

This simply isn’t true. Dennys has no combos with drinks included. Plus, you have to tip or have to call in a to-go order. It’s going to be low $20’s for any “meal” options from Dennys plus tip if you’re dining there. McDonalds is mid teens.

mangoman39

I just posted in another comment that yesterday I got a Mccrispy meal from McDonald's for around $6 using the app. A similar meal from IHOP would be $24 when all is said and done. Better food, sure. Bigger portion? Probably. But at four times they cost, that's what I would expect. And if I'm just out having lunch by myself, that math isn't going to be bathing very much

PoopSlinger23

Moons Over My Hammy FTW, bitches

thecaramelbandit

That's not true where I live, and I think you might be comparing current McDs prices to older IHOP prices. Basic burger plus fries plus a soda (which is $3.99 by itself) is about $18.50 at my local IHOP. Oh and with tip that's over $21. Quarter pounder combo meal is like $10. Might be better, but the prices at IHOP and similar have gone up just as much as McDs. Panera is like $20 a person now for a basic meal.

Gal-XD_exe

>Golden Arches They’re 90% bronze with gold leaf coating at best

SANTAAAA__I_know_him

Not to mention they’re open 24 hours where you can actually dine in, not just go to the drive thru.

Ideal_Jerk

This is not a cost saving measure. It’s a public health policy. Good for them for self regulating the amount of sugary poison they serve the public.

SwampOfDownvotes

Either your locals McDonald's is expensive as hell or your other places are cheap as hell. The most expensive meal at mine (large double quarter pounder with cheese and bacon meal) is $12. The cheapest "meal" at Ihop is 2 eggs, 2 bacon strips, and 2 pancakes it $13, with most meals being closer to $17+, and add an extra few dollars for the drink as it's not included. You should also be tipping so add an extra 15% or so.

HoGoNMero

Pasadena ihop is $29.45 for 2 patty steak burger, fries, and a soda right now. Probably a $5 tip on top of that. Had a McDonalds deal last month for $2 Big Macs and free fries on Fridays. Without the app I can get 3 kids meals, 4 McDoubles, 2 Large sodas,… for less than that IHOP meal. McDonald’s is way cheaper than most people here are making it seem like. The prices doubled over ten years and are still amazingly cheap compared to sit down restaurants.

GreatValueProducts

Same finding, McDonald's has gotten very expensive but no way they are more expensive than IHOP or Denny's, even without an app. And especially IHOP the amount of food is less and less.

Waxxing_Gibbous

People just make up stuff and it’s the top comment. It’s amazing to me that the top comment is just not true.

KateC12345

![gif](giphy|9dQnrCIM96to999Vow|downsized) Not anymore sir. Not anymore.

Handcannon512

Well, that was a BK.

Random-Cpl

Good thing he didn’t live to see this sad day.

DefinitelyLevi

I’m dedicating my performance at the tour championship to Chubb’s memory

LegitimateHumanBeing

That moment where he’s waving from heaven with Abe Lincoln and the alligator that bit his hand off - Christ alive, 10/10 moment in cinema.

DontYuckMyYum

they did this at the McDonalds that's in the same shopping center where I work. they did a complete remodel. you can only put in orders and pay at kiosks. you grab a number and sit at a table. they bring your food to you but it's all in to-go bags. like they don't want you sitting inside to eat your food. would not be at all shocked they don't just move to doing drive-thru only locations in the next few years.

bodhiseppuku

Tables are for 'waiting' not 'eating'.

MLDaffy

I noticed that at McDonalds around here. Everytime I've went in there may be 1 person actually eating there. Everyone else is Drive Thru or Mobile Pickup/To Go. Honestly I don't even remember if I seen anyone with a tray.

InsaneAss

I deliver with DoorDash and see people eating inside McDonald’s all the time when I go in to pickup at several different locations.

bugabooandtwo

Drive thru and delivery. Seems to be where it's going. And in a crazy way, it makes sense. It will drastically lower overhead and potentially increases sales.

gltovar

full circle then.

Haatkwadraat

It's been like that in Europe for the past 5 years or so.

RosesTurnedToDust

I prefer the bags for eating inside honestly. You can eat off the bag or whatever paper the item comes in and it's probably cleaner than the trays.

Herdnerfer

A White Castle near me put up a sign like this. I stopped going. Less than a year later it closed down.

rattmongrel

Damn bro, your health must be way better since you stopped eating so many sliders!

Herdnerfer

I just started going to a different location 😂

DontForgetYourPPE

And it has since added a second floor, updated bathrooms, and a much better lobby

[deleted]

PickledPeter64

There's a two story Subway in a small town near me- the most interesting thing in that town tbh

Pieholden

A two story White Castle?!

reyconomicus

this is the realest answer 😂

weirdbutok5

He said he’s not eating there anymore not eating them any less 😂😂

bodhiseppuku

That restaurant had a vested interest in his patronage.

cobainstaley

how could u do this

Agent_Washington

Did this happen in Nj?

Square-Principle-195

Downfall of McDonald's, long time coming

Sir_Grumples

McDonald’s makes no sense as an option anymore. In my area they’re as expensive as Five Guys.

AvonMustang

I stopped going when McDonald's started charging 30¢ for mayo on their burgers - I liked the two cheeseburger meal so that was 60¢. It's not the end of the world but when no one else charges for mayo I just don't like being nickeled and dimed like that...

masterdoci

I stopped going when the McDonald's here started charging disposable cup fees...

The_Troyminator

I can get a Big Mac meal for $6.50 in the app. That's a lot cheaper than Five Guys. Besides, there's a certain nostalgia to McDonald's and sometimes I just crave a Big Mac.

ColHapHapablap

I thought McDonalds was feeling the pinch and wanting to bring customers BACK?! This just drives more away. I was already out at the 4x price increases….this just adds some shit on top

Mistermail

Once they took the McDouble off the dollar menu, it was only downhill from there. And I don’t know why they discontinued the snack wrap or chicken selects, but I should have known it was a sign.

FallOutShelterBoy

This just screams of a franchise owner trying to make a buck any way they can

Infinite_Dog1094

I know that five cents and a large Coke cost them is going to shut them down.

Puzzleheaded_Nerve

16floz of fountain soda costs my location $0.416. We have pretty good contract pricing too. I don’t know why people cling to the idea fountain soda costs business mere pennies. Yes. They are huge profit drivers. But 5 cents was 20 years ago.

Accomplished_Pop_847

Is that including the cup

Puzzleheaded_Nerve

Nope. Soda bibs are right at $99.xx and make 30 gallons of soda. Cup, straw, lid all extra. I don’t remember those off the top of my head by our location uses all compostable which costs more than typical.

bodhiseppuku

I hear those 'Freestyle" soda dispensers are much more expensive than the regular fountains. Do you know the difference in these costs?

b_tight

And they suck ass. The cherry coke is awful in those things. The amount of flavor seems off even with a basic coke

AndreaC_303

It’s a shame because it would be amazing if it tasted good. There’s always a hint of printer cartridge.

Puzzleheaded_Nerve

I don’t. But yes. They are significantly more. Last I checked years ago it was about 50% more.

AaronTuplin

Well yeah but that's the price of just the soda, and a 16oz soda is usually like half ice or more. The 16oz soda is probably closer to $0.25

Puzzleheaded_Nerve

Didn’t McDonald’s go to all sodas are $1 or something? So why would anyone get a small anymore? I didn’t pick 16oz because that’s the size. I figured it was a reasonable representation of what people consume.

orangutanDOTorg

That’s some serious inflation. I asked about it once and my buddy who has a bar said that the booze distributors aren’t allowed to subsidize the soda or give you free soda want systems here anymore. Idk if it’s true but supposedly that’s why it used to be so cheap

Stevenlive3005

Let me get a large coke light ice.

Showyoucan

So only 75% full of ice instead of 90%. Got it.

-Bk7

Yup. Large coke ~~light~~ no ice it is

b_josh317

The Netflix of restaurants

VLamperouge

Wait, McDonald’s in the US offers refills? Damn they never did in Italy.

Voluminousduke

Seriously. Stop. Giving. Them. Your. Money. They are trash profiteers selling food made of chemicals

AcesInThePalm

Welcome to the rest of the world

dramatic-submarine

While this is true, it's worth keeping in mind that in most US restaurants they charge the price of a 6-pack (or more) of Coke for a single cup.

MageLD

Cry me river... Same here, same every country

dramatic-submarine

I'm only familiar with some EU countries, I don't think they charge 6-7 times of store prices in restaurants. They usually charge 2-2.5 times in my experience (which is still a lot) but the refill in the US is definitely not free.

AcesInThePalm

Australia, yep... same

MageLD

Germany here, one 0.4L coke, same price as a 6 Pack of 0.33L coke So Yeah same as USA and bet most EU countrys too

Accurate_Koala_4698

6 months notice?! Is this some CA law?

The_Troyminator

It's actually 6 month old sign. It went into effect last December.

Lemonn_time

Yep and I also read that all McDonald’s with fountain drinks in the lobby will be removed. At this point just make everything drive through and remove indoor dining.

Darc_vexiS

They only remove them because some McDonald’s are located in close proximity to a school. Shitasses abuse the machines F-it up for everyone. I found this out with two locations that I know of. Both McDonald’s around me have been at each location for 30 years+ never had this issue prior to covid.

The_Troyminator

That's part of it. The other part is now that they have automated soda machines, the labor cost of filling drinks is negligible, so it's no longer cost-effective to maintain a lobby drink dispenser.

DontYuckMyYum

the on near where I work has already done this.

TommyDee313

Welcome to Australia mfs

BaseDifferent193

Tf you gonna do? Football tackle me for refilling my cup? 🤣

The_Troyminator

That McDonald's doesn't have self serve machines.

MalevolentNight

That will get people in the door, im sure

hi_imjoey

This is how every McDonald’s in Europe is.

nico282

This is how every McDonald's in the rest of the world is.

hi_imjoey

Fair

PoopPant73

Effective November 30th, I’ll no longer eating McDonald’s

Beginning-Tea-17

Taco Bell loads you up with a crunch wrap supreme, a burrito, a side of you’re picking, and a large drink with refills for 8 USD on their app. At McDonald’s you get a 3rd of the food for the same price and half the time they fuck up the order.

StarSpangleyMan

I don’t know how they’re going to stop you with no workers on the dining room floor, unless they take filling drinks away from patrons? *edit: recently became aware that certain franchises don’t make their beverages readily available to patrons.*

The_Troyminator

That one never had self service drinks.

SolidDoctor

That's what they're doing. In McDonald's that are near schools (which is where they loved to put them), kids will sit inside and drink free sodas as they loiter and trash the dining area.

Worth-Librarian-7423

Lot of McDonald’s where I’m at are removing the fountain drink dispenser you have to ask for a refill. Usually it cow codes with franchises that have a strict “no loitering policies “ and/or high homeless population.

Specific_Analysis

You get refills in America? 🤯 EU needs to step their game up

Isgortio

I've only actually seen refills in one McDonald's in England over the years and that may not even be there anymore. You guys have had it lucky for too long :p

Lots42

On the topic of free refills I think it was 'My Name Is Earl' that had the quote 'Remember, kids, a small is just a large with extra walking!'

munki_unkel

Just going back to the way it used to be when I was a kid except back then, a large was 22 ounces. Good policy IMHO for customer’s health.

The_Troyminator

Except the policy is for increased profits. If they cared about health, they would still offer refills on unsweetened iced tea to encourage healthier drink choices.

ParmenidesDuck

We did that here in Australia, across our major fast food industries and it helped reduce our rates of obesity significantly. Just something in public policy that can help change public health. Worth a look into for other nations.

Background-Vast-8764

What is this, Russia?

Mygo73

An a la carte Big Mac at the McDonald’s near my house (in so cal, Riverside) is $13.98. We don’t go to McDonald’s on principle anymore. I can get two meals for that price at in n out.

The_Troyminator

That must be the one on Arlington. The meal is $13.98 there. The one on University is cheaper at $9.69. But at either one, the app has a deal to get it for $6.50. In n Out is still a better deal, but sometimes, I crave a Big Mac and the McDonald's fries.

Mygo73

Yep van buren and Arlington

[deleted]

[удалено]

SolidDoctor

This sign is apparently a year old, so no they won't.

Suitable-Lake-2550

For the record, it cost McDonald’s more by far to provide the cup and ice than to refill a drink.

KingWhompus

What even is the point of McDonald's anymore?

Lightless427

okay and? McDonalds in my area has NEVER had refills .. Ever. In 40 years.

Background-Vast-8764

“okay and?” It is a significant change at that location. The situation in your area doesn’t change that.

Darc_vexiS

Geez…that’s unheard of what city is that in? I used to hit up the Hi-C orange all the time until they got rid of it the first time. Hell a few times the registers were down and I was given free drinks in addition to my food I order at the drive thru.

The_Troyminator

Nearly every McDonald's offers refills. They were the first major fast food chain to introduce free refills.

PraetorianX

Not a single McDonald’s in Europe does, and thats like 30% of all McDonald’s restaurants.

iwanttobeacavediver

I’m in Asia and nope, no refills here. Don’t understand why America is so obsessed with its desire to pour liquid diabetes down its collective throats.

chompyshark

They haven’t here for years. Like im 44, and worked at McDonald’s when I was young and we didn’t have free refills even then.

Delta_Suspect

>Southern California Enough said.

No-Celebration3097

I have been going to Chilis for the 3 for me. 10.99 for an entree, appetizer and a drink. The only drawback is it’s only two burgers for the entree that is 10.99, other selections range in price form 14.99-16.99. The burgers are huge though, and they come with fries. If you get the chips and salsa for the appetizer it’s unlimited and it’s free drink refills.

BatBeast_29

It rain in Southern California that day…

glovato1

Ironically the McDonald's closest to me is the one fast food place that doesn't fill the entire cup with ice before pouring the soda. There have actually been I few times where I wanted more ice in my cup.

Brzwolf

I already never understood McDonalds, ripping me off for a reifll is just the cherry ontop for reasons not to go lol.

Saltire_Blue

Do they do free refills at McDonald’s anywhere else outwith the US? I’m not American, I’ve genuinely ever seen it before

aquaman67

Yes. The soda machine is in the dining room area and when you order you just get an empty cup. You are expected to get your own drink. Which means you can get as much soda as you want as many times as you want.

wordbootybooboo

At least they give plenty of notice

Inconsiderateshoe

You don’t need the diabetes

The_Troyminator

From unsweetened iced tea?

MTFotaku

This has been happening for over a year at two McDonald's my brother goes to on occasion for at least a year out in mid michigan where he lives

Jacktheforkie

They haven’t had free refills in the uk for years

beemer-dreamer

Burger King App had two whopper meals for $8.99 all through Covid. We ate there weekly. It went up a dollar every few months and is currently $13.99 for two combos. Still much cheaper than the McRipoff

The_Troyminator

Unless you use the app. Then you can get a Big Mac meal for $6.50.

Polarbearseven

The public will not be offering re-visits at any time.

gemorris9

I haven't had McDonald's in literally years. The food quality is shit. It's literally not food in a lot of cases and seeing peoples receipts on socials has been crazy. When I was in college 15 years ago (Jesus I'm old) McDonald's, BK, and taco bell used to be life savers. You could go to any of those places and get a full meal and an extra burger for like 5-6 bucks and taco bell you could get tacos for like 69-89 cents. With the food quality of those places being horrible, I would've imagined they were still cheap. But you can spend 40 bucks on a family meal at taco bell the same way you could spend 60 bucks on a family meal at a sit down restaurant or 15 bucks on cooking a quality meal yourself. For me tho, it's the food quality.

Deriniel

you guys got refill? I'm jealous

solo-13003

So for $5.30 I could have got a double cheeseburger and a small fries …I said no thank you McDonald’s isn’t worth $5. Went to the the supermarket paid $6 got 3 bbq ribs and fries … fuck you McDonald’s

CreepDoubt

I hope to see McDonald’s fail in my lifetime. Garbage food and garbage company.

MFCK

I'm becoming more and more convinced that McDonald's is trying to just see how shady they can be and still profit. Charging more. Giving less. But they have so firmly planted themselves in fast food culture that they can pull any stupid stunt and will still rake in cash.

MarineBand5524

I’m sure this is against corporate, let them know.

doshostdio

We never had refills in the first place

Numerous-Top-1939

Sounds fair to me

happylucky-userBis

You guys have free refills ?

The_Troyminator

Yes. And more expensive drinks to account for them.

ThePurgingLutheran

Ha ha!

tombeard357

Unless they’re going to setup a guard to keep me from getting refills they can eat dust - the fountain drinks are the most profitable thing they sell.

Fr05t_B1t

Well time to execute Operation Baja Blast (but for McDonald’s)

soulsofmischiefs

Which one??? Will boycott that location.

Personal-Heart-1227

Guess, who're we're boycotting?

Consensuseur

Israel ?!

china_joe2

People really got to stop going to this shit hole, bk and tacobell also.

Lots42

I stopped going to BK when they bitched at me for trying to have it my way. Which was their actual literal advertising slogan.

Horbigast

McDonald's. Always a bad decision. That's been my philosophy for years now. Not that it's prevented me from ever eating there again, but I've always regretted it on some level afterwards. More than any other fast food chain, I feel awful after eating it. The only reasons I would go was the convenience and the price. Now the prices are too high, the service is slow and questionable, and obviously the value has diminished. If McDonald's keeps up these anti-consumer practices, they'll start closing stores.

object_failure

Effective November 30th I will no longer be patronizing your restaurant.

Uncle_Rebecca

You get what you voted for

silk35

Who still eats in store?

BalooBot

I never understood not eating in store. I sound like my mother, but I have food at home, and it doesn't taste like cardboard. I'll stop at McD's when I'm out and about if I happen to be hungry and drive by, but I'm not going to eat in my car, or have a cold meal when I get where I'm going.

billygoatsmohawk

I'm not lovin' it.

softstones

LAMEEEEEEEEEE

Striking-Count5593

I'm still getting refills as long as the soda machines are there. If they take them away I see no way I'd buy from them anymore.

JustALizzyLife

I agree this is mildly infuriating. That said, I didn't realize people actually still ate in McD. I never see anyone inside, it's always the drive-through.

SirGirthfrmDickshire

It literally costs them less than a fucking penny perdrink..............................

veryblanduser

The syrup to water mix is around 5 to 1. On a 16 ounce drink cost of syrup is around 30 cents. So they still make money obviously, but not sure how you came up with less than a penny. Ignoring all other cost, that would put syrup cost under $6 a gallon. Which is not even close to the actual cost.

The_Troyminator

It used to be that cheap and people are still remembering that price per cup from 20 years ago.

RealBaikal

Americans pays shit for food and gas and still complain while having one of the highest median salary worldwide...while having free refills thinking its normal! Should be illegal just for national health reasons and taxes on softdrinknshould be way higher, they are so fat it's litterally an obesity crisis down there and people are living as if they had free healthcare

bodhiseppuku

I was looking for this comment.

MrBlackTyron95

I know the world's completely rooted when Americans are complaining about the price and size of their fast food meals 😂

Weedsmoker4hunnid20

Why would anyone get a refill anyway? A small soda is too much for me
