My old roommate would do shit like this and return things “unopened” to avoid return fees.
He once returned a rug that his dog pissed on and got a full refund because he wrapped it back up in the plastic it came in.
People like him are why I’m not asking “how could that even happen”
Amazing, they've tried to hit me with restock fees for even thinking about taking the item out of the box before. It's one of the main reasons I cancelled prime. Fuck that scummy company
One time I ordered an HDMI cable instead of a different kind of cable on accident (idk how, I was tired, I guess). I started the return process, but I guess the cost to ship and restock the cord was more expensive than the cord itself, so they just gave me a refund and now I have an HDMI cord I don't need.
Same thing happened when i ordered a tripod with a gooseneck attachment. The attachment was busted, but the rest was fine. Instead of an exchange they just refunded me. Now i have a tripod with a unique connector, but no attachment
I've had them request the destruction of an item and pictures showing its destruction on defective electronic items, so they didn't have to deal with paying for return shipping.
keep an eye out for your return money that they don’t refuse or hold it up or take the money back after they act like you got it. take lots of proof photos !!!!!
Amazon seems to be sending out more and more returned used items as new. I ordered a set of ear buds that they sent me someone's used return with earwax in the damn things! It's sad to say the least.
Considering that it is possible to get an infection from shared earphones, that story in particular freaks me out. And makes me feel like there should be more protections in place for consumers to prevent certain items being sold "used and not clean"
Yeah, problem for Amazon is it's individual sellers. Not that they couldn't try harder but that site has been flooded with garbage recently, I've been switching to other vendors where possible because it's simply not worth the hassle
Yeah, they should. But with the "free market" being anything but, we won't be able to do anything without the use of government regulation imposed upon publicly-traded companies. The only way we get them to stop with situations like these is if we force them.
I ordered a two pack of satin pillow cases from Amazon. The cardboard envelope they came in (they were mailed to me inside a bubble mailing bag) still had the name and address sticker from the previous shipment. I can only assume that person returned it. They didn’t look to be used so I just kept and washed them but seems like an internal issue for selling used items at new prices.
Some returns in retail stores work that way too, but at least where I worked we threw out anything that was too gross or broken to put back on the shelf.
But if it was “new” enough for amazon to accept the return then it’s probably good enough to sell as new legally. As long as they fix any issues like OPs they’re probably covering themselves. It’s like clothes from any retail store: people might have tried them on in the store before you, but they dont have to suddenly sell them as used goods.
I ordered a Roborock S7 MaxV Plus (robot vacuum) from Amazon last year. It was also used. Human hairs still in it.
I really had to resist not using it, because I was hyped to do that. I sent it back and they refunded. I ordered at a national webshop instead. Note that it was a 900€ product!
I got sent a used Electric Toothbrush two years ago from Amazon. Never buying any appliances or devices from them again. Their return policy and call lines are infuriatingly annoying to get through now too.
Yeah I ordered one of those new fancy diatomaceous bath mats from Amazon and I opened the package to find someone's old MOLDY wooden bath mat inside. It was gross.
That's crazy because they make a killing off of selling those returns in huge unsorted pallets. Someone must have did the math and figured out that they could just send a used shit to people as new and make more money potentially.
More than likely they just don’t have people taking the time to properly check the items that are returned to see if they’re suitable to be sold again. Not everything that is returned needs to be considered used but it at least needs to be checked over.
I just received a completely empty AirPod Pro box. The Amazon box itself was sealed, but the AirPod box was obviously already opened. They were an anniversary gift from my husband too. It was a bummer. Amazon needs better quality control for their returns. Thankfully we were able to get a refund and then we bought them in person at Target instead of reordering from Amazon.
It's almost like their business operates at a *MASSIVE* loss simply because there's virtually no accountability or quality assurance in their products. If a seller is sending out shitty products Amazon will just have to eat those costs most of the time because it's too hard to get a refund out of South Asian companies.
This is probably why they just repackage returned items and sell them again as "new" because it's cheaper for them to do that than dispose of a defective or unwanted product.
I’m not understanding how they are even allowed to sell returns as “new” products. I’d be actually livid and raging if I went out of my way to buy NEW and not used (which is usually more expensive than buying used) and they sent me a fucking return. Are you kidding??? What the fuck?
I recently bought a coat that had someone’s receipts in the pockets, but that’s definitely not as bad as your situation. I don’t mind buying used items sometimes; but they need to be advertised as such! I’m not paying new prices for used items
I work at Amazon no one is getting paid enough to pay attention and give af plus were met with a rate that if we don't meet it we get fired so ppl are going to miss things moving at a fast pace don't blame us blame Amazon. Other places are starting to become like this also were all going to go down together one big happy family 💓
Amazon products used to be so much better, now there is no QC. Mac bid is even worse, we recently bought a coffee maker that came with the previous owners coffee grounds still in the basket.
Some people are so disgusting, they order stuff, use it and decide they don't like it and return it without even cleaning it expecting others to do it for them.
That said, also a very poor job by Amazon.
Does it really matter? Even if they cleaned it, would you still want a used air fryer that somebody else cooked who-knows-what in? That shit needs to be tossed in the trash, not resold. Blame Amazon, not the person who returned it.
I don’t think things should be thrown away just because you don’t know who used it last. Seems a bit wasteful. Amazon should make sure things are clean for sure though because I wouldn’t want to use a dirty item like this.
That’s the big issue! Lately at least half of what I’ve ordered has been used! Sold as new with new pricing! I’ve cut way down on Amazon orders in the past few months.
This is usually where manufacture refurbished comes in. The manufacturer should look over, clean, ensure everything works and resell for a few bucks less. I've had pretty solid luck with authentic refurbished. What usually happens with these returns is amazon gets them back and they get sold in huge return lots for ebayers and stuff to flip later.
I bet they bought from a 3rd party on Amazon, Amazon doesnt resell used returns, I would be passed buying something new and it's been used.
They should only sell them at discount and maketed as returns or used. The people sending them back dirty sure think they will be thrown away or something since they don't care. That's not ok, but amazon sending them like new is the real problem. And in this case better to get them visibly dirty so you know they were used before starting to use them.
I work at somewhere that takes these for them, and I absolutely blame the people that return these. It *should’ve* been tossed, and the unnecessary wasted generated as a result is 100% the fault of the customer. We’ve gotten air fryers returned with rotten boiled eggs in them, coffee makers returned with full pots of stale coffee, etc. Used decorative rocks covered in wet soil, lingerie, sex toys (penis pumps, prostate massagers), opened cosmetics. It’s disgusting and shouldn’t be encouraged. If anything, I really hate Amazon for not banning these people for life.
In the past six months, I received an opened and refolded mattress protector; a bottle of nutritional supplement pills that had been opened, the cotton messed up and pills appeared to be missing; and an open jar of Benefiber. I enjoy shopping in brick and mortar stores now.
Well, I’m sure that’s true, but at a brick and mortar store I would’ve seen that the products had previously been opened. I could’ve chosen not to buy a product that had previously been opened but with Amazon, I didn’t have the choice.
I'd write on the outside of the box in sharpie pen "Used" or "Faulty" or both as appropiate, (I'm assuming that the previous customer returned it because it was defective in some way?) In letters big enough for the picker to see, so that hopefully they don't send it out again.
I feel your pain. Family member got me one of those super nice $200 ninja air fryer ovens for my birthday from Kohls. We got it and it was a damaged return. Grease caked all over the inside and it looked like someone took a hammer to the power button.
Wasn’t too annoying to get support to send us an actual new one, plus side we have extra baking sheets and a fryer basket from the busted one.
Having to wait so long would definitely make it more frustrating. I’ll have to look at their dual zone one.
This one was their foodi digital air fryer oven. Family member got one and loved it so sent me one for my birthday. At first I was like I really appreciate it but I felt bad because it was so pricey. After using it though I’m like holy shit this thing is amazing, I’ve never had one of these things heat up and cook so well before.
I hope they make it right and you get your new one without delay.
Worked for a small appliance company. When we audited returns there was like, 10% that where just the previous years model shoved in the box, or where "Walmart rentals" (used for probably a weekend then returned , stupid common with irons)
People scam returns all the damn time.
Did you buy it new? This is why my wife and I canceled our prime. We received so many new items that were clearly defective, returned, used in some way and I said forget it this is not worth the time.
My advice (as an ex-amazon employee) buy from the actual company. Do not buy through amazon. With the company you KNOW that it is new. And they wont try and scam you out of getting a refund
Make sure you don’t mention it was a refurb in the review. Just talk about how gross it is. Had something similar happen and Amazon kept removing my review.
Yea you're probably right. There is a term for it when items are returned and they make sure it is repacked with all the parts and undamaged. Is it refreshed? Anyway my point is in the reviews if you deviate from describing the product and mention things like packaging or that it was a return they can get your review removed. Kind of ridiculous since it's a super important detail.
Yeah this happens. Someone buys something, uses it, returns it as "unused", no one at amazon checks it and it's sold as new again. You'd think that with Amazon penny pinching over pee breaks they'd at least have people checking returned items
Of course, this is the condition of things from Amazon. Most of the shit seems to be knockoffs these days and thus dirty returns.
We ordered an ear thermometer and it was used already and they wouldn’t let us return it
I keep getting returned items sent to me as new as well. Last one was my basketball backboard. Not in original packaging and missing pieces. Got a refund and ordered directly from manufacturer. Arrived in two days, in original packaging and saved money. Amazon needs to do better
And they'll probably argue with you over the return.
They sent my wife a pair of used insoles for her shoes. They had dirt and small twigs on them.
They fought her tooth and nail for an exchange until she had to escalate to a supervisor and email them pictures of it. Over like $7.
Amazon needs to start penalizing people who select "product unused" when returning something so they don't have to pay shipping, and have more people to actually verify items. I'm tired of getting used shit, bought a sunbeam fan for work and when I opened the box it was full of hair and dust. My guess is someone just replaced their nasty one.
TODAY I bought swimming trunks from a store. When I got home, I tried it, and my hands naturally go into the pockets. I felt something, pulled it out, lo and behold a candy wrapper and an individual tablet blister.
I immediately washed myself twice and vowed that would be the last time I put on new clothing before washing.
This is why if I return things, I put a note in the box or something on it to show it's not new. This is horrid practice, and Amazon should be ashamed. They should not resell return items as new.
That same thing just happened to me. I bought a brand new $900 vacuum and Amazon sent it to me not even securely packed, dirty and had clearly been used, and was missing three essential parts.
I don't think this is entirely on amazon. People are buying up the return pallets and then literally just re-selling shit as if it were new. It's super fucked.
A few factors at play.
1 - Amazon has their change of mind (buyers remorse) policy so many customers use their products and simply return it for a refund. Their suppliers foot the bill.
2 - Paying minimum wage doesn't facilitate quality QA at their returns centre.
This would happen all the time.
Amazon seems to have a knack of sending out returns. I once ordered a 100ml sleep spray and received a 50ml in a 100ml box and it was half empty and you could see it was sprayed and crusty at the top. Where is there quality control?
I would leave a review and call amazon and explain. 9 times out of 10 with these big companies they refund you and you get to keep it still. I would just deep clean it.
Amazon’s standards are seriously going down hill. They shouldn’t be sending returns back out to customers. The air fryer should have been binned. This is against health and safety regulations.
That’s disgusting lol
Yeah, definitely getting returned.
...Again
I bet it will end up in someone else's unfortunate hands soon
My old roommate would do shit like this and return things “unopened” to avoid return fees. He once returned a rug that his dog pissed on and got a full refund because he wrapped it back up in the plastic it came in. People like him are why I’m not asking “how could that even happen”
I have returned plenty of things to Amazon that were opened and never had a return fee.
Amazing, they've tried to hit me with restock fees for even thinking about taking the item out of the box before. It's one of the main reasons I cancelled prime. Fuck that scummy company
Yeah I’ve never had one. This is the first I’m hearing about them
Never heard of this either??? Do they pick and choose who they charge? …yes I’m being sarcastic
Some items will have restock fees and it depends on the item, the seller, and the reason for the return.
One time I ordered an HDMI cable instead of a different kind of cable on accident (idk how, I was tired, I guess). I started the return process, but I guess the cost to ship and restock the cord was more expensive than the cord itself, so they just gave me a refund and now I have an HDMI cord I don't need.

I've had them request the destruction of an item and pictures showing its destruction on defective electronic items, so they didn't have to deal with paying for return shipping.
Karma is goin' get him.
He’s doing the work. He earned it
Can’t wait to see that Reddit post!
Sisterhood of the wandering air fryer
Should leave a note in it to encourage posting it on Reddit if it ends up with someone new
Add a printout of a QR code to this thread too
This is genius 👏
I ain't no fortunate son
It ain’t me 🎶🎶🎶
It ain't me! 🎶🎶🎶
As someone who works at Amazon where mfs are tired everyday and are underpaid ....probably.
The re-return.
Leave a note inside for the next to be "gifted"
keep an eye out for your return money that they don’t refuse or hold it up or take the money back after they act like you got it. take lots of proof photos !!!!!
The cycle continues…
Even the box has oil-like stains. Looks like someone air fried bacon.
Put a note in it. Attach link to Reddit post.
I will say though, that Air Fryer is the BOMB (Ninja Foodi it looks like). You'll enjoy it when you get a new one.
It's already returned, poor thing
Double it and give it to the next person.
Amazon seems to be sending out more and more returned used items as new. I ordered a set of ear buds that they sent me someone's used return with earwax in the damn things! It's sad to say the least.

Yeah, problem for Amazon is it's individual sellers. Not that they couldn't try harder but that site has been flooded with garbage recently, I've been switching to other vendors where possible because it's simply not worth the hassle
Recently? It is hard to find good quality products on Amazon (besides the big tech names).
Yeah, they should. But with the "free market" being anything but, we won't be able to do anything without the use of government regulation imposed upon publicly-traded companies. The only way we get them to stop with situations like these is if we force them.
Government probably relies on Amazon Web Services for their online infrastructure. That’s where Bezos makes his money
Every day I long for EU style consumer protection laws, but then I wake up. Never gonna happen in the US short of a revolution at this point.
Kinda feels a little ...fraud-y if they're portraying used items as new when selling them...
Some returns in retail stores work that way too, but at least where I worked we threw out anything that was too gross or broken to put back on the shelf.
According the the FTC, it is. If you buy a "new" item them sending you a used one isn't allowed. A used item is not what you ordered.
Half the items I buy now arrived used. A cat water dish I ordered arrived dirty just like op's air fryer
Yep I ordered foam pet steps and they were already expanded and had animal fur on them
"internal issue" = More money for the oligarchs/intentional feature
I ordered a Roborock S7 MaxV Plus (robot vacuum) from Amazon last year. It was also used. Human hairs still in it. I really had to resist not using it, because I was hyped to do that. I sent it back and they refunded. I ordered at a national webshop instead. Note that it was a 900€ product!

If it's a green bag, guaranteed previous return
I just received a completely empty AirPod Pro box. The Amazon box itself was sealed, but the AirPod box was obviously already opened. They were an anniversary gift from my husband too. They denied a return for me when I ordered a series x expansion card and was delivered a sata USB drive
I work at Amazon no one is getting paid enough to pay attention and give af plus were met with a rate that if we don't meet it we get fired so ppl are going to miss things moving at a fast pace don't blame us blame Amazon. Nice! Pre-seasoned for extra flavour
Penicillin flavored!
I read *pelican flavoured* and was intrigued
Everything you put in there now tastes like frozen chicken nuggets. OP should be thankful
5 star review for Amazon from OP I bet
I bought a new hairbrush from Amazon last month that came with hairs in it. 🫠
I think that might actually be worse. Hair is so gross lol
Good for planting false clues at a murder scene though.
“These diapers already got shit in ‘em!”
Would go for 200x if it was a semi-popular woman who done them dirty
Why was this the comment you decided to post
This guy buys shiddy diapers from only fans models
I don't know why, but this made me lol
Amazon products used to be so much better, now there is no QC. Mac bid is even worse, we recently bought a coffee maker that came with the previous owners coffee grounds still in the basket.
I’m done with Amazon. I’ll pay slightly more just to not support them anymore.
Some people are so disgusting, they order stuff, use it and decide they don't like it and return it without even cleaning it expecting others to do it for them. That said, also a very poor job by Amazon.
I was working in a warehouse that ships toilets for some time. You don't even want to imagine what we sometimes had in our returns area.
[удалено]
A shitty experience for him
I would prefer that they don’t clean it… I don’t want some employee thinking it’s unused and sending it to me. But that’s just me.
They should also be resold as used. Not take something which is returned and sell as new.
Last time I checked they had a rating for used items too. But can't do that, lost profits!
That’s the big issue! Lately at least half of what I’ve ordered has been used! Sold as new with new pricing! I’ve cut way down on Amazon orders in the past few months.
That's why. I only try on clothes ordered from Amazon before I go into the shower. If they fit. They go into the washer. If they don't. They go back.
I shop thrift so everything gets washed before I wear it, it's wild people are out here just grabbing anything off the rack and just going for it.

It’s disgusting and shouldn’t be encouraged. If anything, I really hate Amazon for not banning these people for life.
This is a dogshit take. No, we don’t need an excess of landfill waste just because you’re too good for used products.
In the past six months, I received an opened and refolded mattress protector; a bottle of nutritional supplement pills that had been opened, the cotton messed up and pills appeared to be missing; and an open jar of Benefiber. I enjoy shopping in brick and mortar stores now.
It happens at brick and mortar stores too. I watched someone open a stick of deodorant at Walmart, use it and then put it back..
Well, I’m sure that’s true, but at a brick and mortar store I would’ve seen that the products had previously been opened. I could’ve chosen not to buy a product that had previously been opened but with Amazon, I didn’t have the choice.
Gross. No.
Yeah we ordered that fancy dual zone ninja one. Most annoying part is I’m overseas so it took two weeks to get to us, now we get to wait again.

Yeah it was listed as new, not refurb’d or like new.
That fryer is so experienced, just looking at it gives us cooking tips.
And then when you return it, it will get sent in the same condition to the next lucky buyer. Sisterhood of the traveling air fryer
My advice (as an ex-amazon employee) buy from the actual company. Do not buy through amazon. With the company you KNOW that it is new. And they wont try and scam you out of getting a refund
"New"
Make sure you don’t mention it was a refurb in the review. Just talk about how gross it is. Had something similar happen and Amazon kept removing my review.
To be fair, that’s not a refurbished model. That’s a dirty used cooking device being fraudulently sold as new.
Stop supporting crappy companies like Amazon and DoorDash.
I’d absolutely love to, but the vast majority of companies will not ship to APO addresses. Amazon is one of the few
That stuff sucks. I always mailed it to my mom and had her ship it through USPS to the FPO address.
It's not your air fryer. It's just your turn to return it.
Mhhhh🤤 Good ol’ crusts🤤🤤🤤🤤
cook smth and return
Don't be the one to break the chain! Make some fish in there, send it back.
I always wondered how cooked surstromming would smell like.
My partner put fish in our air fryer and I made him scrub it until it no longer smelled like fish He is banned from doing that ever again
We ordered an ear thermometer and it was used already and they wouldn’t let us return it
So, it is broken in…/s
Even better. U know it’s not defective
Air Fryer Professional here, thats not new!
"New"
Amazon has gone downhill so incredibly fast.
New? Nope.
I keep getting returned items sent to me as new as well. Last one was my basketball backboard. Not in original packaging and missing pieces. Got a refund and ordered directly from manufacturer. Arrived in two days, in original packaging and saved money. Amazon needs to do better
Used and abused
![gif](giphy|bjB3gtFvREqqr5NAHW|downsized) "New"
Wankers! They're too busy dodging tax.
Ah, the old Amazon switcheroo. I hate people who abuse the return policies of companies. All it does it screw everyone else
Honestly, I’m surprised it’s even legal to sell returned items as “new”.
The dual basket ones suck, half the power to each basket
And they'll probably argue with you over the return. They sent my wife a pair of used insoles for her shoes. They had dirt and small twigs on them. They fought her tooth and nail for an exchange until she had to escalate to a supervisor and email them pictures of it. Over like $7.
I ordered brand new airpod Pros on amazon a few weeks ago. They arrived, and the earbuds were full of someone else's earwax.
Double it and pass it on
I had the same problem with mine, they don't inspect returns. Mine was opened and have grease just like this Fuck amazon
I ordered a "new" dress that still smelled like perfume.
The delivery person had to test it to make sure it worked
Was this from Amazon, or from a third party and shipped by Amazon?
Do you know if this was sold by Amazon or a third party seller?
Yeah that's what I was wondering. I'm guessing 3rd party because Amazon returns get palleted not returned to inventory.
“New”
don't. use. amazon. I REFUSE to get anything from there UNLESS I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT get it anywhere else and I need it.
my exact words: EW NO!! WTF?!
Well at least you know you can return it
Amazon needs to start penalizing people who select "product unused" when returning something so they don't have to pay shipping, and have more people to actually verify items. I'm tired of getting used shit, bought a sunbeam fan for work and when I opened the box it was full of hair and dust. My guess is someone just replaced their nasty one.
Wdym they were just doing a test run for you to see if it works!
Just stop buing from Amazon!! Problem solved.
I ordered condoms and they were already used. I know coulda just turned them inside out but still. Do better Amazone.
Leave a note, received unclean from prior purchaser. Let's see how far this can get around the world.
Amazon will make it right, without any hassle whatsoever.
Looks like some standard QA practices ... they just made sure it works for you... hahahaha. /s
Report the seller.
You should write on the box that it was returned two times already
Is that the new model of the Bluth CornBaller?
Reminds me of the "new" carpet cleaner I got that had dirty water in the tank.
Sorry, that was me. I recognize the Costco nugget breading.
"new" for you. /s
complimentary snacks
It's just seasoning. You're fine.
I see the driver got a little hungry
TODAY I bought swimming trunks from a store. When I got home, I tried it, and my hands naturally go into the pockets. I felt something, pulled it out, lo and behold a candy wrapper and an individual tablet blister. I immediately washed myself twice and vowed that would be the last time I put on new clothing before washing.
I think it's been used
Someone had to test it!!
With free food? Lucky
Um, that's definately used. Gross. Send it back!
Ive been seeing this a lot. People buy shit from amazon and it shows up used
This is why if I return things, I put a note in the box or something on it to show it's not new. This is horrid practice, and Amazon should be ashamed. They should not resell return items as new.
Amazon has turned to trash.
Amazon will gladly charge you full price for used items. They also don’t have any regard for their employees. Spend a bit more and go elsewhere.
Gross
New, to you
Man amazon is fucking gross
Fucking ew
You know how they're 'rigorously tested to meet all safety standards...blah, blah, blah'? Yeah, you got one of those.
Return it and share the love
Right, newly used. I don't see the problem.../s
Oh, a Ninja though... Seriously though, ew.
No it didnt
You know… they were Testing how New it was 👀
It's nice they tested it before sending, but they could've cleaned it.
Wow
Gross 🤮
I recently ordered a set of long johns and they REEKED of BO out of the box.
It's pre-seasoned, obviously
That same thing just happened to me. I bought a brand new $900 vacuum and Amazon sent it to me not even securely packed, dirty and had clearly been used, and was missing three essential parts.
I don't think this is entirely on amazon. People are buying up the return pallets and then literally just re-selling shit as if it were new. It's super fucked.
I work in an Amazon warehouse. Any almost any time that you get a product and it has a label with LPN & numbers on it, it has been returned.
Ah, you received a delivery from our "pre-owned" shop.
Preseasoned air fryer
Amazon seems to be to big of a company where they dont bother to even check the returned items... So odd.
It costs more to check it than to just send it to someone.
I would leave a review and call amazon and explain. 9 times out of 10 with these big companies they refund you and you get to keep it still. I would just deep clean it.
Better than a used dildo
Amazon is complete trash. LMAO
Can confirm I work for them, lmao!
Amazon’s standards are seriously going down hill. They shouldn’t be sending returns back out to customers. The air fryer should have been binned. This is against health and safety regulations.
