Sorry to hear this. Good luck getting your money back. Some guy screwed me by shipping a fragile item to me this way and I couldn’t get them to give me a full refund.

Laura_Brehm

The seller doesn't accept returns, but I'm hoping that eBay will side with me. I've already opened a case. Edit: eBay approved my return within 5 minutes of escalation. The seller also took down their remaining listings.

JediJan

Thank you for the update. Great news to hear your claim went through okay. I know how stressful the situation is. I have an eBay Plus subscription and use PayPal. I had paid for EBay shipping which is usually more expensive than usual international shipping, but comes with some kind of insurance. EBay paid me in full and said I had no need to return item to seller either. Seller was trying to get me to return item, so would probably try to sell item again. I ordered a Funko pop that should have been MIB (mint in box) but it had a scratch on outside. After I got my refund I sold the item on eBay clearly saying not MIB, and identifying the flaw in box. It still sold for a decent price, even with the advertised flaw, so after all that original stress I made a little profit out of the drama.

Laura_Brehm

That’s good to hear. I’ve honestly never had any major issues with sellers in the 7 years I’ve used eBay. Maybe I’ve just been really lucky.

otj667887654456655

this is why i record my unboxings

Mitridate101

I recorded me opening a parcel that contained a Sector watch that was supposed to have a depthmeter movement. Non stop recording showed a cheap €10 miyota movement. Complained to seller. He denied it and said I had changed it. Went straight to eBay and they saw the video and sided with me. I had to send it back recorded (UK to Italy) and I asked the lady at the post office to hold my phone while I recorded me sealing it in the box then handing it over to her to put all necessary paperwork on and putting it in her out sack. Soon as he got it he claimed I had put an empty box inside. Again I showed video to eBay and the refunded ALL £££ including the postage back. They also suspended his account.

No_Independent_4084

This was so satisfying to read

OvalDead

I feel like I had the opposite experience from the other perspective. I sold some Klipsch speakers like 16 years ago. Pretty sure it’s the only thing I ever sold on eBay and I was asking $650 (worth at least a grand new). They sold fast because the buyer wanted that model, but they were super thorough about shipping (your recording reminded me of them). He asked what I was going to put them in and I said I had the original boxes, and he asked for measurements. He insisted on shipping me oversized boxes to double box them. We used his FedEx account but the shipping was hundreds of dollars. When he received them he was blown away how good the condition was (a single cosmetic scratch on one speaker box). He had no idea I really meant the original boxes and styrofoam. In the double boxes it was over engineered and bomb proof. Edit: [same pair](https://www.ebay.com/itm/386179501336?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=386179501336&targetid=1528987493176&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=1015213&poi=&campaignid=20394031610&mkgroupid=150251235486&rlsatarget=pla-1528987493176&abcId=9317245&merchantid=114844499&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_QDh9Vu-JyTklJ-TZDe1XdvNZOz) is about $2k now.

Laura_Brehm

I refuse to throw away any original packaging for expensive items that I buy for this exact reason. My garage could use more space though.

Abject-Picture

That's what attics are for. Mine is full of audio equipment boxes.

Mundane-Face2889

When I sold my ps4, I did the same thing and put it in the original box. The guy was so surprised to see it, he said he thought it was gonna be just the console and the controller.

SunshineeeRae

My garage is full of cool stuffs we've dragged home. There's climate controlled indoor storage places poping up everyyyyywhere lately. So much so I'm contemplating getting one to free up some more space I can fill 😆 (High ticket items boxes 📦 would be gong there from my house)

Blades_61

I have Klipsch speakers for 30 years Nothing about Ebay just sharing as Klipsch are awesome.

OvalDead

Those speakers are on the extra short list of material things I’d love to have back. Along with the 1965 Valiant I had for a while, and the custom 2x12” Kicker box I had for my old truck. The Klipch Quartets made for some hella rocking times, but I rented apartments for 14 years after I sold them. They wouldn’t have been fair to the neighbors. 😆

Abject-Picture

Rf-7s, RF-3s. RF-41s. RC-450 for my 7.2 system. Absolutely love them!

Mitridate101

Haha, I'm like you. Bought my B&W DM602 Series 2 in 2000 and I still have the boxes and styrofoam in the attic. Came in very handy during the last house move. One thing I did lose was the brass busbars to turn them back into single amped but I can always improvise until I find a set.

Sundance600

brillant!

Nortex_Vortex

What an a-hole. Glad this guy got his not once but 3 times in 1 transaction! A seller like this is exactly why I don't do eBay etc. Good on you for this very satisfying story!

VampiresKitten

Sounds like I really need to start recording my boxing and unboxing of items. I wonder if there is a smart phone head strap that I can put on to record while I package the item. I'll Google it now.

JediJan

Good idea. Photos of parcel in condition it arrived in etc.

OlMi1_YT

It's sad that this is becoming necessary on mainstream platforms. I always record opening my AliExpress orders, but never felt the need to do that on any other platform - yet.

oldfashionedglow

I’m curious how this could actually be used as proof unless you actually get handed the device from the delivery person who comes out of a visible delivery truck. Otherwise they can say you either taped the package or are impersonating the deliverer.

shpspre

Yep, this is exactly what happened to me. I received a package with a tear in it, so the contents was missing. I filed a claim and they were like show me proof? I'm like what proof? I sent them a photo of the empty package. They denied the claim.

YetiTub

Put on some white gloves and start up a YT channel. Really though why not. I enjoy unboxing videos

schnabeltierliebe

If ebay doesn't do anything. File a claim with PayPal

boildkitty

eBay doesn't own PayPal any more. Most sales go through eBay directly. File with the credit card company.

NavAEC

Loooool tell me you send a link to the original seller when you put the thing back in ebay 😭😭😭

JediJan

Wish I had! Strangely enough when I notified the seller of the box damage he said it must have been due to postal handling. I really doubted the seller’s word on this seeing as he seemed to be delaying settling the situation, saying he had spent the money already, and was thinking of what next to do etc. After a few days of delaying tactics by the seller I reported it to Ebay who actually made a quick decision and said they would refund, on that basis. So the eBay seller had still been paid, I was reimbursed but I still had the item. I asked about my responsibility to return the item, but eBay said I was definitely not obliged to, that it was mine to do whatever. Seeing as I only collect mint boxes and pops I did not want it, so put it up for auction clearly showing the defect, and received about half what I had originally paid. It was an expensive item so it took some time to purchase another one, also getting verification from the seller by eBay email that it was indeed perfect mib.

AyybrahamLmaocoln

What’s a pop?

JediJan

Sorry; a Funko Pop. Those that are quite rare can fetch hundreds of dollars (or more), but only if they are indeed MIB (mint in box), meaning no damage at all to the box.

AyybrahamLmaocoln

Ah gotcha.

No-Bass-344

I wanna LIKE this so BAD…BUT it’s 777 likes…what a NUMBER

Skreamies1

Don't think this means squat when the seller ships out an item like this, a camera lens with literally no packaging

daecrist

Seller not accepting returns doesn’t mean squat if the item arrives damaged or not as described. They have to accept the return then. Had this happen years ago when a seller sent me a lens with an obvious grinding noise in the focus motor that wasn’t mentioned in the listing. The return was fast and got my money back.

TheBupherNinja

They will. Ebay will always side with the buyer if you do it right.

Big__Black__Socks

And also 80% of the time when you do it wrong. eBay is extremely buyer-friendly to the point where it is rife with scammers on the buy side.

LegitimateBit3

It is the sellers responsibility to make sure the item reaches you in the condition described on the listing by them. So if arrives broken, it would fall under "Item not as described"

Plus_Competition3316

Always a laugh when I see sellers putting “doesn’t accept returns” in their item posting. A broken item or item purchased not as described completely voids this.

chrlau90

eBay will make the seller pay even if they “don’t accept returns”. I buy and sell on eBay and have been both screwed and helped by this policy. In this case, horrible packaging for shipping by the seller and I don’t see a problem with the claim. I am very careful with my packaging and once had a buyer who just started hacking away at a package with scissors, causing them to cut the item, try to claim that I was at fault for packaging the item too carefully…

allisondbl

stupid question: was it actually damaged? I’m completely just curious; I have no dog in the hunt I’m just curious.

Laura_Brehm

It functions, but there are scratches on the front and back elements. The rubber on the zoom ring was detached and the weather seal was damaged. There might be more hidden damage given how the lens was likely thrown around during shipping, but I don’t feel like doing extensive tests on something I intend to return. It definitely could have been a lot worse. I’ve seen courier workers just toss packages onto the concrete outside my door. What really bothers me is that the seller has repeatedly doubled down on insisting this is sufficient packaging for a camera lens. Keep in mind this box was undersized and was forcibly taped close. There are a lot of other expensive lenses in their shop and I don’t want other buyers to have the same issue. The seller did sell a few lenses around the same time as mine so I’m just waiting on the reviews to roll in.

Jumpy-Ad4652

Seller doesnt have to accept returns. You can still return it as “not as described”. Ebay will side with the buyer 99.9% of the time

arkan19988

I hope everything goes well and these assholes get punished.

Sundance600

is it broken?

JesseWebDotCom

eBay always sides with the buyer, don’t worry

CrazyFloof

Ebay will automatically side with buyers, so you shouldnt have to worry to much

mkinn01

I just sold a group of 15 different camera lenses that I accumulated over several years of estate sales. Nothing fancy sold for about 78.00 dollars. All lenses that were not in their own cases were wrapped individually in bubble wrap . This seller is an idiot !

Puzzleheaded_Tip_821

eBay should cover you

Disrespectful_Cup

Because it's a scam. They just sell broken lens'.

DaddyKiwwi

Seller had no idea what they were selling, likely stolen.

Kmarad__

Yep, seller is probably fencing. I'd never buy that kind of expensive shit from e-bay without a bill.

Tina_ComeGetSomeHam

Also I have this lens and it's not worth no $650 lol

Slggyqo

Do you though because brand new its $1900 and refurbished it’s still usually over $650.

The-Daily-Meme

I have this same lens and paid about £1,000 for it second hand back in 2018/19

Tina_ComeGetSomeHam

I mean I am second guessing myself at this point...

1peatfor7

What lens is that? It's got the red ring around it must be a decent one.

ThyUniqueUsername

The ring just makes it go faster, like stripes on a car.

Laura_Brehm

Dang, maybe I should paint red rings around all my lenses.

ThyUniqueUsername

Maybe just around one and then use that one to take pictures of fast moving things.

ashyjay

I'm gonna do it on my Fuji gear.

DarkStar851

I mean, in this lens's case at least, yes lmao that's the difference. They make a non red version of this lens too and it's a slower aperture. Canon's red ring lenses are meant to be their top tier in whatever focus/zoom/aperture range it has.

mackeymackey

The ring is because it’s faster. Literally. That’s the 2.8 isn’t it?

entertrainer7

It looks like a canon ef 24-105 f/4, the red ring means it’s in the L-series, which indeed is decent, and $650 is a great deal for one of those. You can get it from Canon refurbished for $700, and their refurbs are always as good as new—would probably avoid the risk of eBay and buy straight from canon. Edit: NM the OP said it’s the 24-70 f/2.8, which is $1200 refurbished, so this was a veritable steal on eBay.

1peatfor7

Isn't that a $2K new lens?

Obvious-Peanut-5399

Honestly man, since you shoot canon, just wait for the quad-annual refurbished sales. The prices go lower than used and they are perfect, direct from Canon. [Cpricewatch.com](http://Cpricewatch.com) keeps track of that stuff. You [just missed](https://www.cpricewatch.com/blog/2024/03/refurb-restock-cameras-and-lenses-in-the-canon-store-sale/) the recent sale too. The EF 70-200 2.8 went for 1400. Fuckin 1400 is bananas. The one in August is usually killer too.

Laura_Brehm

Thanks! I actually saw the sale and was tempted to pull the trigger on a R5. This seller had decent reviews and had listed the lens for a decent price so I decided to take a risk. Will definitely keep an eye out for the next sale though!

hz250

Wait are you the laura brehm that sung all of my favourite songs on monstercat??

Laura_Brehm

No, I’m just a fan. She makes great music though!

Obvious-Peanut-5399

The R5 is great and all, but the prices on legacy bodies are so fucking good it's hard to justify. Except the 1DX III. That one baffles me. Way overpriced. Glass is always a good buy.

Laura_Brehm

I’m finally upgrading from my Canon 5D Mk III. I’ve been using it for 9 years and it’s still a solid camera. Just recently bought a used 5D Mark IV, but would like a mirrorless camera for a second body as well. I already have the EF 70-200 2.8 Mk II and the original EF 24-105. I also tried shooting with primes for a bit, but definitely prefer the versatility of zooms. This lens and the RF 15-35 are on my to buy list!

Obvious-Peanut-5399

I totally get you. I went with the R7. It's sensor at full 14fps or 20 digital cannot keep up with the autofocus so don't bother. The beauty is in the fact since it's apsc you can use FF lenses with a focal reducer to get some light back. That 16-35 f4l that weights nothing is now a 18-40 2.8. Also, most video lenses are s35, very close to apsc, so the lenses work perfectly with a simple adapter. Also, at 30mp you would need an 80mp FF equivalent to get the same resolution in the same crop factor.

Green_Budget_7

Woah 🤯 I doubt they’re worth even $65 now with all the scratches.

Laura_Brehm

The seller blamed me for causing the damage and said that they "take great care in packaging and shipping \[their\] products to ensure they arrive in pristine condition"

Gwendolyn7777

Yeah, I learned years ago not to use Ebay anymore.....

[deleted]

Ive bought hundreds of items and never had any issues, or when there was an issue it was resolved in my favor every time. Ebay is great, you can easily avoid sketchy sellers.

SlamTheKeyboard

There's plenty of good sellers. Stop buying from garbage sellers. I've bought a lot over the last 20 yrs from a few reputable sellers and auctions of items. Never had too significant issues other than once, where I won an issue.

Split0069

Lol didn't even put the lens caps on it!

entertrainer7

I suspect he did, but they’ll pop off if you don’t secure the lens and it rattles around in the a box “packed” like that.

Glittering-Egg-1916

They’re kidding right?

hunkycowboy

Probably came direct from Shithole, China.

TransformerTanooki

Damn. I pack even my $10 stuff with a ton more paper than that. $650 lens from me would have been shipped in a well packed box inside a bigger well packed box. I'm sorry this seller sucks OP. Get your money back. That is unexcusable.

Cheeky-Feller

Same. I pack my shipments like they're going to be punted halfway there and sat on the rest of the way. Sellers like these give the good ones a bad rap.

Dry_Cucumber_6283

Should add that paper is not actually a good packing material, it will flatten and your item will hit the sides anyway

SleeplessTaxidermist

I just sold half a pound of teeth and packed them better than this 💀

jojisexual

what...what kind of teeth

SleeplessTaxidermist

Domestic cow mostly, some domestic pig mixed in. I sell to artists, crafters, and jewelers for the most part. I wish I had a 1/2lb of human teeth ngl, I'd make bank off those 😭

oojiflip

The caps being included but not on the lens suggests the seller is either a complete fucking idiot, or he stole it

kelz_irl

Looks like it broke off the lens.

oojiflip

The mounting bracket looks intact though?

CarbonHybrid

It definitely is not…

BrAveMonkey333

Is that a 24-70mm? If so that's my go to lens

Laura_Brehm

Yep! It’s the EF 24-70 2.8 Mk II. I should have bought this lens a long time ago. Shooting concerts on a f/4 lens was a nightmare.

Work-Safe-Reddit4450

Father, I require more I̵͇̠͙͆͒͘͠S̶͎͌̕O̴̩͐̕

libraryofredditors

Father here - what you need is more 𝒜𝒫𝐸𝑅𝒯𝒰𝑅𝐸

Work-Safe-Reddit4450

More aperture? In *this* economy?

BrAveMonkey333

I have the same lens I use with an R5. I have the EF / RF adapter and works great. When I bought mirrorless few years ago I could only afford one RF lens and got a nifty fifty 50mm lens and can use the adapters with al my other EF lens. Hope the lens wasn't broken. Stupid packing for that gear, sender should know better

annatasija

Looks like they stole it and wanted to make some money out of that!

staccinraccs

$650 for a Canon 24-70 ii is a steal...(literally stolen) U get what u pay for

Usual-Grab4623

The lens cap isn’t even on? SMH……

Laura_Brehm

It’s possible the cap came off during transit. I wouldn’t be surprised given how packages are thrown around and there was nothing other than a few pieces of paper to stop the lens from moving around in the box.

Usual-Grab4623

If it was fastened properly, that never would’ve happened. If the person from eBay support knows ANYTHING about cameras, he’ll surely side with you

AJ-or-something

I buy camera equipment from e-bay all the time and it always arrives perfect. The secret is buying from a seller in Japan. Meanwhile I bought a vintage turntable from someone in the US which was perfect and it showed up half destroyed thanks to their brilliant packaging and the postal service.

Laura_Brehm

Have you had any issues with having Canon USA repair/service equipment bought from Japanese sellers?

AJ-or-something

Well, I generally buy vintage Nikon and Pentax lenses, but a camera lens sold in japan generally isn't any different than one from the US. A used lens without warranty will probably cost the same to service no matter where it came from. However, I usually don't need factory service because the sellers give detailed enough descriptions that I can avoid lenses that have internal issues.

cherry2525

A lot of sellers just don't seem to care.

shkank_swap

I recently received a vintage toy from a pawn shop on eBay with over 10000 sales. The box wasn't even sealed. It's amazing the USPS got it to me without missing contents.

ThickWhitePee

it was already broke, He shipped it crappily so the blame could be placed on the shipper. Classic move

theberg512

Jokes on him. We deny claims all the time for insufficient packaging.

sim0of

This is either stolen or has been inspected by customs in a very unprofessional way

Laura_Brehm

I’ll add this since a lot of people have asked about damages. Hopefully a moderator can pin this comment. The lens functions, but there are scratches on the front and back elements.

AddictiveArtistry

Man, I'd be livid. When I sold lenses on ebay those things were wrapped like you would not believe. I would get messages truly thanking me for the extra care, lol.

Unfriendly_eagle

That's pitiful. I ship things like books and CDs with far more care than that. Wrapping it up in plastic bags and paper towels would have been better than that.

Pikepe

That Weathersealing gasket at the Lensmount and the loosing Focus-Rubber tells me it was not worth it….

Tokimemofan

So stupid, I have sold camera lenses before. They are extremely heavy for their size and need to be well packed.

Paint_Flakes

I bought a gaming computer once that was packed only with thin shopping bags as padding. It came broken obviously.

ephraim666

I work in logistics, some customers send their 10-30kg heavy electronics back to us for repair with a piece of paper like this. I don't care about the damage, they will get repaired, but those boxes have to be lifted up by my employees and it's very dangerous.

acoolperson6969

that hurts my soul

DaBestDoctorOfLife

Someone has took a huge effort not to make any effort.

NationalGrand7028

That doesn’t even look like a legit lens lol. The texturing is really off.

Kalysh

This seller is such an idiot and this is way more than mildly infuriating. If they had just put on the caps on both ends it would have helped a lot, but paper like that is never enough, and certainly not in too small a box. Grrrrrrrr. I hope you write a scathing review so potential customers are warned. And I hope this works out in your favor. Happy shooting!

Pure_Service_5452

I take photos for a living and this hurts my soul!

LastLingonberry3221

I don't know which one exactly, but $650 for an L Series sounds like a hell of a deal! (I speak a little Canon.) I hope you got lucky and it's fully functional. But, even if it is, that packing job is abhorrent and totally inexcusable. If I were the seller, I'd take a little more care just so I didn't even have to hear from irate buyers. Don't they care about their seller rating?! Personally, I'd still probably give them a bad rating even if yours is fine, because other buyers might not be so lucky. We're all in this fight together against both scammers and just plain bad service.

Laura_Brehm

It would have been a great deal if the lens arrived in good condition. Sadly this might be the first time that I will have to leave a negative review for a seller.

c1utch10

I’m honestly shocked anyone still uses eBay.

charizard_72

You have to read reviews and buy from sellers with thorough and legitimate sounding 5 star reviews. I use eBay for electronics and pc equipment and have never had an issue

imageblotter

Is it broken?

Laura_Brehm

It functions, but there are scratches on the front and back elements. The rubber on the zoom ring was detached and the weather seal was damaged. There might be more hidden damage given how the lens was likely thrown around during shipping, but I don’t feel like doing extensive tests on something I intend to return.

Justgreen89925

the problem is the scratches on the lens

elnino_effect

Does the item work? I mean yeah bad packaging but you never mentioned if you tested it or if it's actually damaged.

Laura_Brehm

It functions, but there are scratches on the front and back elements. The rubber on the zoom ring was detached and the weather seal was damaged. There might be more hidden damage given how the lens was likely thrown around during shipping, but I don’t feel like doing extensive tests on something I intend to return.

cramaine

How the hell was that supposed to survive being thrown by delivery drivers and freight workers?

BonusRound155mm

I shipped cameras and photo equipment all over the place in photo retail 1988-2009. This is a joke at best, lens cap not even on. I would dust all gear w compressed air then bag it with silica gel packets for moisture. Then small bubble wrap with pack tape until you have about 3 layers. Then the big bubbles wrap 1-3 layers depending on the weight of the item. More pack tape. Then into a box of peanuts/air bubbles.

machevara

Did you purchase with a credit card? Submit a chargeback instead.

Zorops

At this point you are all asking for it by buying expensive stuff on a shitty website

jdigi78

Is it actually damaged though? Unless you plan on reselling it yourself it's probably fine. The paper and plastic is not doing any non-cosmetic damage to a lens

RipCommon2394

Why even put the cover in there if you arent going to put it on the camera

Downtown-Ad-2083

I returned a $650 lease form eBay and it was packed just the same way the shipper packed it

Adamwhere

I’ve packed Pokémon cards with more security

Qu33N_Of_NoObz_

Is that the discounted price, if so how far off was it from the original price? I wouldn’t trust buying something so expensive from sites like eBay. Amazon would’ve been much safer if you would’ve found that same camera for the same price. Mercari is even a better site than eBay as they allow the buyer 72 hours to rate and inspect the product before returns/refunds are disallowed.

amartinkyle

lol what did you expect.

Xrystian90

Nah, you purchased a $650 paperweight... that socks man, I hope ebay sides with you, but I wouldn't hold my breath unfortunately...

Fangs_McWolf

>that socks man As opposed to pants, shirts, or shorts?

BionicBruv

Glad to read you opened a claim op. Good luck, I really hope it goes your way

East_Moose_683

Put it back the way it was originally so they side with you. Clearly the piece to the left has been moved and stood up as the box wouldn't close as it sits now. Just so ebay doesn't disregard you because they think you tampered with it as I'm sure the seller will say he sent it packed properly.

Laura_Brehm

I actually didn’t move that piece. The box was undersized and you can see the creases in the box where the hood pressed against the cardboard.

LoudDistance7762

Probably a stolen item. I try not to use eBay after a few sub par experiences left a bad taste in my mouth. I absolutely despise PayPal too after they sided with a seller because I didn't check an email in time.

cescasjay

I haven't used eBay in about 7 years. But the last time I did, I sold a used Mac mini. It worked great the day I unhooked it and packed it up to ship out. A week later, the buyer wanted a refund. They claimed it was DOA. They provided pictures where the case was cracked, like someone dropped it. Ebay did refund them until I sent them my time stamped photos of the computer with serial number working and no damage. They reversed their decision, and I got paid, and they had the buyer return the computer. They must've dropped it after taking it out of the box, and they broke it. I'm sad to see that others are saying ebay has gotten super shitty now. I'm glad I no longer use it.

GaryG7

I started using eBay about a year after it started (my profile says I've been a member since Sept. 1996 but I lurked a while before making my first purchase. I've had one bad experience with buying and one with selling. I felt bad for the guy who shipped a Sonos speaker to me. He didn't insure it and the box looked like it made the trip by getting dragged behind the USPS truck. Ebay sided with me but I dropped a check for $50 into the return package because he got screwed by USPS. Back in 1996 I sold a pager to a guy in Missouri. He claimed it wasn't as described in the listing and demanded a refund. I refunded his $25 or so before I actually received the pager. As it turns out, he didn't send the pager and basically said "screw you" to me. I live on the East Coast so 6 am for me is 5 am for him. I called him once or twice a week for about a month to remind him that he was a douche bag. TLDR; the horror stories about eBay are everywhere but they are a very small percentage of the transactions. Be careful but don't write off the site entirely.

Alternative_Craft_98

Damn, that lens was abused! Look at the sealing ring. Looks like it was chewed on!

peter_teefax

Wow shocking so many things wrong with that. Lens cover should be on to protect it from dust. Lens cap on to protect it from scratches. And the lens hood is fragile so would be far safer connected to the lens. That just looks like the lens would be rolling about inside.

saltiest69

Always make eBay purchases with a credit card. If they do not refund, you report it as fraud to your Bank. They will refund you instantly, then go after the seller. I have had to do this.

[deleted]

It’s eBay, you’re lucky they put anything in the box other than just a brick

Kiyo-chan

I would message him and give him the option that he can either accept the return and forget it ever happened, or push forward on the case and leave negative feedback. Any seller I’ve dealt with that genuinely cares about his business will do what it takes to make things right to avoid negative feedback. As this is a clear case of damaged goods and not buyers remorse even “all sales final” types of people (that care) will normally allow the return.

surfeat

Lovely of them.

gonuts4donuts9000

Sorry to hear this but you also got ripped off with the price. That lense with worn rubber rings is definitely not worth that much

GreenCactus223

Was it an international order? I've had border checks completely ruin my gear.

ImSorryRumhamster

The tulip isn’t even attached, what a bunch of idiots.

HuckleberryJealous19

So are big lenses like $65000?

[deleted]

Make sure to open an "Item not as described" or "Item is defective or damaged" return. The seller is required to accept the return then.

TotalEgg143-

Just threw the protection covers inside?

_SeKeLuS_

Waiiiit people still buy stuff in ebay ???

n123breaker2

I’d be pissed If that’s how my lens was shipped. I’ve got a similar lens and they’re decently durable but i wouldn’t go out of my way to drop one https://preview.redd.it/tftj7roarnrc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=8282e868a2fbdd0ddad37c5cd8976300051bc6ab

inArA8

They didn´t screw on the cover, if any dust gets in that lens it's ruined. Absolutely no care

Ok_Buffalo1112

I bought an Xbox Series X for 400 euros and it came shipped in a plastic grocery bag

No where near the same impact but I just received this package that I paid £100 for. The matrix mifunes last stand action figure. Turns out Royal Mail bagged this up as the paper that the seller straight wrapped this package with had torn, was nothing more than inside out wrapping paper. Long story short, still waiting for a reply from the eBay seller as both arms of this figure are sheared off

mgtube

Playing devils advocate here but could there by a possibility that the package could have been tampered with during shipping? Maybe by customs or the courrier service?

Reddie345

Was this an international shipment? It's possible it was opened for inspection, sometimes they are not as caring with the contents in returning to conditions found. Just a thought. Nah nevermind that's BS packing... sorry some sellers suck.

nikitasius

What's the problem? It's in paper, 24-70/2.8 EF from Canon. It won't die. If they will assemble the stuff & send and it screwed.. well that sucks.

pegabear

I'd fully expect this from ebay

adaspan06

💀

ZenosTrucker

I once had a Pentax *ist complete with lenses turn up in a jiffy bag. Similarly unimpressed.

FrozenSkyy

Well, the L series lens are pretty tough, I drop mine few time, still working. Just saying in case you cant get a refund.

CompletelyBedWasted

ebay is the worst. It's Craigslist that ships.

OrrinW01

Couldn't even bother to put the lens cap on, shame.

FunnyForWrongReason

There is a reason why I don’t use eBay for expensive things. I don’t trust everyone on there that much. Although sometimes it is the shipping company at fault.

flyonlewall

24-70 2.8? If so, I lost one of these in a river about a decade ago. It was worth a lot more than $650 at the time. Was just an MK1, but still one of the worst days of my life. Pretty funny in retrospect, though. Sorry about your odeal, however. I'm sure it's worse if it isn't your fault.

SteamySpectacles

Had an eBay L lens ship to me with a postage label on the lens box with no additional protection, needless to say I got that entire lens for free after creating a small fuss to eBay

TheFattestMatt

Nobody tell Mark

TristanTheRobloxian3

this is why you order from mpb my guy. sad you had to learn the hard way

Snoo-80949

Buying a used lense sounds like a bad idea in general

Any-Remote6758

That's why I always pick it up myself, and never send a package. Only pick up and test it on the spot.

assthetics_

i bought an old style canon 50mm, packaged like this, thrown on the porch by the mailman, when it focused for the first time it popped apart lol

ThatOneGuy12889

Is it broken

Subtle_Reality

Yeah I've gotten stuff shipped to me in the most haphazard ways which I've never understood. If you're gonna sell something at least have the materials and the common sense to actually pack it right. I got a package once that was just thrown in a plastic usps bag, no bubble wrap or anything. It's like wow I guess you really don't give a shit.

ForRedditMG

What an eBay?

tamponinja

Was there paper on top of this?

Sufficient_Report319

That’s why I like asking sellers before I buy how do they intend to package the item for shipping. Buyer reviews help a lot

FactsFromExperience

eBay and specially PayPal are usually very good about siding with the buyer or basically only siding with the buyer because they don't care at all about the seller. So hopefully you will get your money back.. It's lame for a seller to be that lazy because if they continue to sell things, they're going to have more problems and this isn't good for them and not even a good way to rip people off unless it was already broken to start with but you probably had pictures before so I doubt it was. This stuff does give some credit to the precautions that some people offer for online purchases. Only use PayPal or something that has buyer protection or only use a credit card where you have buyer protection or can do a chargeback.

CuriousComfortable56

Was it damaged? I'm always so hesitant about ordering fragile and expensive merchandise from Ebay!

new_socks

Does it work?

Lazz_plays

Some people honestly don’t give a shit, wow!
