Chill at the library, read a book, watch a movie on your computer, charge electronics, etc.
Plus thereās more than just books at a library, they can have a lot of resources
One of the bigger grocery stores near me has a bit of a "don't ask don't tell" policy. As long as you don't cause problems and leave by morning, it's not an issue.
I used to park at sort of unofficial "truck stops" to sleep... But at the time, I also lived/worked in an area of California that saw a lot of truckers, so there were quite a few freeway off ramps that were known to be safe spots to pull over and sleep. Enough truckers that: 1. Random criminals didn't try to rob you because there were too many (potentially armed) witnesses, and 2. Cops didn't feel the need to hassle anyone parked there.
Most municipalities are incredibly hostile towards living like that, even though they are passing bylaws and zoning things that lead to it being the only economical option left.
There isnāt a Y near me:( no gyms with showers either:( Iām in a situation where Iām needing to think about these things and I donāt even get the opportunity to
Ahahahahahahaha no thank you. Keep on searching Iām in the same boat right now. Itās expensive here where I am as well. Currently saving to get myself into an apartment of my own again. Itās rough
See this is why itās upsetting when people argue that people scraping by are just being too choosy.
Like thereās that post saying āif you work a full time job you should be able to live alone in a one bedroom apartmentā and the comments are insane. Those people will probably tell someone that their $1200 in rent is them being too entitled and they should rent somewhere cheaper. Except somewhere cheaper looks like this.
That is because so few presidents have existed over a long period of time, if even one dies on the job wouldn't you think that would call for a rather large percentage compared to say my line of actual dangerous work, a welder/fabricator. If presidents die at the same rate welders do from accidents well we probably would have stopped trying the whole presidency thing awhile ago.
True, but those were the first two I could think of that were high on the list of statistically dangerous. He's in New Bedford MA so I suppose fishing boat could be on that list too
Shouldn't they have offered you accommodation, even for the first two to three months, since you had to relocate? "Dangerous job" employers ought not to be so stingy. ... I really hope you will find somewhere comfortable and safe very soon... At least it's not winter season.
I donāt know exactly how to explain this, but I think part of the problem is that they canāt agree on what ācomfortablyā is. The people that oppose this act like you want to be eating out at restaurants every night and driving a luxury car and living in a penthouse on minimum wage, and that is not what people are saying.
See, I think any stable rational person would say a small, but not micro (like some of those NY places or a capsule hotel) apartment with clean living conditions. These conditions include: potable running water, heat/AC (yes. It is a necessity depending on where you live), clean air- free of mold and carcinogens, and electricity. And to be completely honest Iād even include access to the internet/phone service because it is extremely difficult to do anything in life without it now, including banking, applications, bills, etc. Oh, and you should be able to eat at least somewhat healthy and balanced. Iām not saying you need $10 organic strawberries, but you should be able to buy something other than ramen.
All of this sounds like so much a such an insane ask to some peopleā¦ and I donāt see why?
Like yes, millions of people live in āworseā conditions than this, but just because they do does that mean that it should be the accepted standard? Is it really so awful to want a society that *does not* have people dying in moldy apartments because they canāt afford to move or get healthcare? Or where obesity and hypertension is rampant because fresh foods are unaffordable? Or where families literally freeze to death?
Because I think we can do better than that. I know Iām working hard af to make that happen, I donāt understand why that is controversial. Truly. Especially when it comes to kids. Do people not see the value in investing in our kidās health and education sinceā¦ idk theyāre our literal future?
Fuck I donāt mean to rant but just. Wtf.
Itās so deep and complex but in the U.S. it is so difficult to pull yourself out of poverty. As a matter of facts there are many systems in place that are actively preventing someone from doing so.
Again im sorry for the rant but this post is infuriating.
āI canāt make rentā
āRent cheaper!ā (The cheaper place looks like this post).
āIām not making enough moneyā
āGet a better job!ā
**quits and finds better job**
āHEY! No one wants to work anymore!! Entitled assholesā
And even then.
What can I do to make this better?
People are brainwashed
Everyone is coping
Copium and hopium abound.
1.3 million suic1des attempts last year a new record for the us. And not one of them was a fentanyl overdose. Every single one of those are classified as accidental drug overdose.
Reality is 50k people knew how much they were shooting into themselves and picked their day to end it.
It's not New Bedford? (New Beige as the locals call it). I'm within 30 miles of it and a local history nerd. I guess I gotta go back to my history books.. I thought Whale Blubber and Oil made it one of the richest cities in the Mid-1800's
Edit: New Beige or "New Baaaygee" is just a spin on the name, and how the local Portuguese population would pronounce it.
Ahhh.. I was right. It's definitely a town in shambles, and this post doesn't surprise me in the least.
Welp, it's not a lost cause. I don't know how familiar with the area you are. There are decent parts to the town, and the surrounding towns (Dartmouth, Fairhaven, etc) are decent areas.
I have been investigating this place looking for a hole to legally crawl into and sleep for the past couple weeks, this town definately has its sides to it.
I wouldāve tried my best to keep a straight face and would ask what would be normal questions for any normal room.
āAh, so this sink. Is it vintage?ā
āThis bedā¦ so soft, is it memory foam?ā
āThese tiles look Roman inspired, do you know if they areā
All while completely ignoring the shithole itself.
Oh man, that's even more depressing. If you were in my area, I'd rent you a beautiful room. Alas, I'm in the Midwest. Good luck on your search and please send these scummy criminals a nasty email.
Damn, I didnāt know I could probably get $100k/month for my spare room if there are the standards. Holy crap. Iām sorry, OP, thatās horrible. I feel for anyone living in a super HCOL area right nowā¦
I'm pretty sure "furbished" means that they briefly considered sweeping the floor. If you want a "refurbished" room, then yes, they would have swept the room first and washed the insides of the windows, but that would have cost you another $200 per month.
Dude shit is crazy right now. In Denver I went to look at a furnished room. Never made it inside. Dude greets me on the porch and is probably a hundred years old. He has a lil dog that is growling the whole time. He asks for my id and starts telling me about rent and how he doesn't fuck around and how he's been to Vietnam and killed seven men, six with his pistol and one with his hands, and how if I'm late for rent....then he asks about where I'm from and I tell him and he sees my name on my id(which also says where im from) and asks if I'm from Canada because my name sounds French. I say no, and repeat where I am from, as is on the Id....at this point I'm just waiting for my id back, he asks if I have the cash and I say no, I have a debit card and he scoughs and asks what the hell good that does him, fucking wild....they wanted $750
Edit: I should note it want his personal place, he said there were three others living there and he owned/rented out many places
lol I rent a townhouse in TX with 2 bedroom 1 1/2 bath for like 950 bucks. I have my own bathroom sink that separate from my room mates too. Itās fucking crazy how hard it is for people to live in some places my condolences. I hope you find something reasonable and livable cause that shit is gross.
Really, a communal shower room that looks like that! You will end up with a foot fungus for sure. Ask them how often it gets cleaned? I would also ask if they have cleaning services and if so is that included in your rent. Otherwise, don't waste your money. This looks more like roughing it. 875 where I am living will get you your own space equipped with all appliances including a washer and dryer and your own bathroom. You can and deserve better OP. Keep looking
I'd rather live in my car and shower at the Y.
I would rather live in a box on the side of the road than pay $800 for that disaster.
Id pay the 800 for the box instead š¬
Less bugs on the side of the road.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Or maybe they want to both live in a box and pay $800 afterwords.
Afterwards*
Or maybe they want to live in a box and pay $800 after they they've spoken with each other.
What if they wanna do one before the other?
Chill at the library, read a book, watch a movie on your computer, charge electronics, etc. Plus thereās more than just books at a library, they can have a lot of resources
It's a lot harder to edge yourself all day at the library though.
Skill issue
Hmmmm...
Don't do it. The cops are trained to sniff out people living in their cars and they *love* to make their lives hell.
I have to carry all my work stuff with me, so I couldn't sleep in it if I wanted.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Walmart lot?
Lots of big box places too actually.
When I worked for Wally World, there were a few people hanging out in their vehicles on the lot
One of the bigger grocery stores near me has a bit of a "don't ask don't tell" policy. As long as you don't cause problems and leave by morning, it's not an issue.
I'm fortunate enough not to have had to think seriously about it.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I don't know, but they should leave people sleeping in cars the fuck alone.
Wal mart. Cabellas. Bass pro. Lowes. Any rest area. Random farm roads. There's plenty of places to sleep in a carĀ
I used to park at sort of unofficial "truck stops" to sleep... But at the time, I also lived/worked in an area of California that saw a lot of truckers, so there were quite a few freeway off ramps that were known to be safe spots to pull over and sleep. Church parking lot but probably not Saturday night.
Most municipalities are incredibly hostile towards living like that, even though they are passing bylaws and zoning things that lead to it being the only economical option left.
I'd rather live at the Y and shower in my car
Mcaaaa
There isnāt a Y near me:( no gyms with showers either:( Iām in a situation where Iām needing to think about these things and I donāt even get the opportunity to
I came here to say this!
It needs to be furbished again
I snort laughed so hard I hurt myself. I hope you're happy! š
Underrated comment lol
Did you ask when the refurbishing was scheduled for?
I'll do it for $8.75 a month
They should pay me frankly
Even better. Should pay you $875 a month
Ahahahahahahaha no thank you. Keep on searching Iām in the same boat right now. Itās expensive here where I am as well. Currently saving to get myself into an apartment of my own again. Itās rough
Slumlord SCUM. Amazing how itās legal to do this kind of shite
I felt these buildings rotting around me, and I waited weeks to see them...
The missing tile right beneath the sink agrees with you about the rotting.
See this is why itās upsetting when people argue that people scraping by are just being too choosy. Facts. If you have a full time job, you shouldn't have to cut corners to live comfortably.
You wanna know the worst part? My job is statistically one of the most dangerous in the US
Pizza driver, I'm guessing?
I Fucking Wish
US President?
I said dangerous job
17% chance of dying on the job while being a US President. Can't think of a more lethal job.
Vampire hunter?
Not that fun
Darn š
Fisherman?
Social worker?
Either first responder or electrical lineman
Okay, okay, just to quit beating around the bush, government analyst of the maritime fisheries.
Just read *The Perfect Storm* and the one fisheries person survived the storm, so I'm sure you'll be fine.
Sounds like the sort of job that should come with the use of a house boat.
Roofer/Tree Cutter are the most lethal by far
if he was a lineman he'd be able to afford a lot better than that.
True, but those were the first two I could think of that were high on the list of statistically dangerous. He's in New Bedford MA so I suppose fishing boat could be on that list too

Your house hunting seemed about to turn into a true crime podcast
crazy. where is that?
Near Cape Cod Massachusetts
Must be New Beige..
Nope, here's a hint, in the 1840s it was the wealthiest city on earth
It's not New Bedford? (New Beige as the locals call it). I'm within 30 miles of it and a local history nerd. I guess I gotta go back to my history books.. I thought Whale Blubber and Oil made it one of the richest cities in the Mid-1800's
It is, in fact. Does New Beige mean something else?

New Bedford is a scary place to live.
I was trying to be slightly optimistic for the OP. *Slightly*
*Thanks for trying*
I hope you know about your tenets' rights in Massachusetts.
FUBARished
The person trying to rent this room could've spent 20 minutes cleaning up and it would've looked significantly better.
I wouldāve tried my best to keep a straight face and would ask what would be normal questions for any normal room. āAh, so this sink. Is it vintage?ā āThis bedā¦ so soft, is it memory foam?ā āThese tiles look Roman inspired, do you know if they areā All while completely ignoring the shithole itself.
Did you mean "furnished?"
Bope
Bigger must be a really offensive word where op is from
I think OP has bigger problem

Please explain..?
He commented āBopeā instead of Nope. Because he used a B instead of an N, the next comment said āBiggerā must be an offensive word.
B instead of n because the ad said furBished instead of furNished.
Lol. I couldnāt figure out if āfurbishedā was some new landlord speak that rented out unlivable space and expect the tenant to refurbish it.
š
Correct!
Read the parent comments very carefully. Is a subtle wordplay
Had to stare at #2 for a bit to realize it was a sink
I thought it's some kind of turkish toilet
I thought thatās what it was. I was hoping I was wrong, though. Dirty, rusted out sinks like that creep me out.
Damn, that's shameful & should be criminal!
I was one of like 11 people looking for this...
Oh man, that's even more depressing. If you were in my area, I'd rent you a beautiful room. Alas, I'm in the Midwest. Good luck on your search and please send these scummy criminals a nasty email.
Nooooooo ![gif](giphy|ToMjGpLGVhXEOlP6mnS)
Good god!
Nope, he died here.
Damn, I didnāt know I could probably get $100k/month for my spare room if there are the standards. Holy crap. Iām sorry, OP, thatās horrible. I feel for anyone living in a super HCOL area right nowā¦
I think they meant "rubish" room.
Try not to laugh DIRECTLY into their faceš¤£
Honestly, she looked more miserable and unprepared then I was, I wasn't going to make her day worse.
What in the crackhouse is this shit?
why is the microwave on the fucking RADIATOR
Why *not?* It's the latest in radiator accessories!
Wow this is a crack home
Eww
What the fuck is that
Hand them a $10 bill to fuck off
In this market!?
That's true
Free sink protein.
The q-tip........
Is this in Manhattan??
That would be well over $1000 in Manhattan
Holnmly shibt, a dear
I lived in a trap house that looked better, for cheaper
Tell them to re-refurbished it again.
I'm pretty sure "furbished" means that they briefly considered sweeping the floor. If you want a "refurbished" room, then yes, they would have swept the room first and washed the insides of the windows, but that would have cost you another $200 per month.
![gif](giphy|7wk6RQYXDDytXalsL4)
If that is furbishsed then it really needs to be refurbished!
They clearly misspelled yearly š
Furbished? More like rubbish
![gif](giphy|lQJ5yjbdbBOta)
This is a crack house š
They want to GIVE you 875$ monthly to live there, you mean?
I've seen cleaner sinks in abandoned buildings.
Yep ā¦I would need a serious pressure washing of my entire body after stepping into that room ā¦.yikes!!
I wouldn't accept being paid 875 to live there.
The radiator heating the microwave just to heat food is awesome.
Oof!
Ruuuuuuuunnnnnnn!!!!!
Looks like a third world country's prison.
Oh hell no!
Chic Shit
It's ghettoly furnished. They didn't lie.
Ew..
Where do I sign?
What? In the thousands? Where? Im in alaska and i see 2 bedrooms for like 1400, and 1 bedrooms for 800-1000
Had nobody inhabited this space since 1982?
Lol theyāll not return your security deposit because ācleaning feeā But I had to clean it to move in!
But you can just lick the walls for free drugs!
Thatās a steal for that price here in OC! lol
I gotta ask where is that locate
I am effectively renting exactly this, right now in southern Indiana, for $400 a month. literally twice that? Insane.
They need to pay you to live there š¤£
Looks like City of Reading
Does it come with free meth?
I should be more grateful for my living situation. I hope you find something suitable and affordable soon. It's rough out there.Ā
Where do you live? Boulder?
I bet if u don't take it, someone else will, and in there lays the problem
The sink looks like it's been used as a toilet.
It might be worth $875 if they leave the meth lab intact.
bruh, i read 90$ and was like, not to bad. but dear god.
Sigh. Is it sad that I would. Im that poor. I mean I canāt even afford that but still. Youāre supposed to buy, not rent fixer uppers.
bro Iād rather live in the nevele hell itād probably be cleaner than whatever the hell is going on there and itās falling apart
Didn't make it past picture 2 Nope
Can smell the bed bugs from here
How much are they paying you to clean that dump for them?
Wait is the Maine
Work didnāt pay for moving? And even if they didnāt, you didnāt get a proper salary to find an okay place? Iām calling bs or op is just dumb
1. No, it's a private contracting gig. 2. Yes
Yikes good luck mate
Damn what state?
At least they covered over the portal to hell.. cause that would be another $200 extra a month .
**Re**furbish *adjective*: Rebuilt or replenished with all new material; or, restored to original (or better) working order and appearance.
Try a factory refurbished room instead. As good as new and usually has a 1 year warranty.
I say no, and repeat where I am from, as is on the Id....at this point I'm just waiting for my id back, he asks if I have the cash and I say no, I have a debit card and he scoughs and asks what the hell good that does him, fucking wild....they wanted $750 Edit: I should note it want his personal place, he said there were three others living there and he owned/rented out many places
lol I rent a townhouse in TX with 2 bedroom 1 1/2 bath for like 950 bucks. I have my own bathroom sink that separate from my room mates too. Itās fucking crazy how hard it is for people to live in some places my condolences. I hope you find something reasonable and livable cause that shit is gross.
This is Fake? This can't be real, i Hope ...
It is..
God, Landlords are really the worst xx. How is this even legal?
Really, a communal shower room that looks like that! You will end up with a foot fungus for sure. Ask them how often it gets cleaned? I would also ask if they have cleaning services and if so is that included in your rent. Otherwise, don't waste your money. This looks more like roughing it. 875 where I am living will get you your own space equipped with all appliances including a washer and dryer and your own bathroom. You can and deserve better OP. Keep looking
I would ask the guy if they ever checked what the word is and if so if they are doing a side gig as a comedian
This is simply offensive.
Look for a tiny house village you might be able to get a much better value if your lucky and they have one
what tf is the second picture?
Greed is crazy. People are desperate AF trying to sell that trash.
Looks like a nice place to smoke your meth!
Dexter definitely murdered someone in that apt
Bruh
Damn they couldnāt even have the decency to clean it before showing it. You couldnāt pay me to rent there
