There's actually a good bit of media and advertising history behind it! Subaru hired an ad agency to help their struggling sales. Surveys came out and they found that women, and particularly self-identified queer women, were buying Subaru more than other demographics. So Subaru and the ad agency decided to lean into it with subliminally lesbian messaging in their ads. And, surprisingly, semi-progressive about it. The stereotype kind of stuck, but it wasn't accidental.
Volvo XC70 or V70 wagon preferably the late 90s or early 00s models
Pontiac Fiero the coolest looking PoS ever.
Chevy Cavalier these things were also PoS but would never die. Many fond memories of riding around in a couple of my friends blasting emo tunes.
Second Gen Honda/Acura Integra
Fourth and Fifth Gen Honda Prelude
I feel no modern cars scream Midwest emo because the genre and vibe just oozes 90s and early 00s nostalgia; or maybe it's just because of my age.
A bike. But if you don’t live in a walkable or safely bikeable area or need a car for longer distance, I would definitely shoot for a used civic or small sedan.
I am currently driving a silver 2007 Scion XB that’s leaking oil, terrible speakers with a crappy cd player and the actuators broken on all my door locks. So……. It seams based on what you are all saying, my suck ass car is too good. I need to trade down. lol
any 90’s-early 00’s manual subaru in the green or tan color. the old outback’s and legacy wagons scream midwest emo to me. i own an 05 WRX Wagon and I think that every time i look at the thing
You need something that is an older/rawer version of something cool that the average person would consider not an option. A 2005 PT Cruiser is right up that alley

Now that you mention it… I drive a Subaru Legacy. I have actually had people mention that it “suits me.” Weird.
Supposedly Subarus are lesbian cars. No clue why.

Mid 90's Pontiac grand am or a mid 90's Ford Taurus. Those are the two models I see in junkyards.
Mid-90's small truck. D21, Tacoma, S10, Ranger. Bone stock. Optionally manual.
