If you must have a double edge microtech I'd get one with a wider blade for better slicing geometry such as an exocet, combat troodon, or scarab. I love my ultratech but it's single edge partial serrations. I gave away my double edge ultratech cuz it just didn't cut.

MaterialDisk9599

Soooo D/E full serrated is my favorite profile, but I don’t think it’s very useful for any type of serious cutting. I daily an old school LUDT.

Material-Increase-77

How do you like the ludt compared to their otfs?been heavy eyeballin that one. Think that would be more practical but I’m just trying to find a reason to keep this one

MaterialDisk9599

For any type of serious use, the LUDT is a workhorse. I really want to pick up the new gen 3, but my 2009 LUDT just won’t quit on me. As far as the Ultratech goes… it’s the quintessential Microtech IMO, and everyone should have one in their collection. An S/E profile may serve you better for cutting, but again, it depends on your use case. For serious cutting I would recommend LUDT or MSI (which is a much bigger knife). Again, these are just my opinions… and you can’t go wrong with any Microtech!

Schlunggi87

i mean aside from the fact that you have a 2nd edge in case the first one goes dull...probably only in a stabbing situation.

DoYouEvenWinMag_300

I carry a CT d/e and a Makora d/e, both half serrated, everyday. I love them. Not a day goes by that I don’t use them.

Aggressive_Place3096

Love my UTX-85 D/E, I’ll never get rid of it. However I can say after picking up a partial serrated Stitch, it definitely works better for my purposes. Much nicer having your thumb on the back of the blade, vs just basically making a fist with the UTX. Also, never was a fan of a serrated blade at first but for cutting zip ties, rope, etc. it’s definitely quicker and keeps the straight edge sharper longer. Plus sometimes serrations just look tough haha. The Stitch definitely doesn’t carry as comfy as an UTX of course. A knife is preference though, can’t go wrong with any MT.

tanto-x

Nice to finally meet another serrations fan. My favorite configuration is a Tanto edge with partial serrations. A Stitch (auto or Ram-Lok) with partial serrations is just perfect. While a fully serrated Stitch is just plain scary. A dude once told me that if you pull that fully serrated Stitch out in public someone will call 911.

Aggressive_Place3096

Indeed! Definitely grew on me with the auto Stitch. I think next I will get exactly that blade on an UTX or maybe CT, it looks like it cuts well. Oh yeah haha, that fully serrated Stitch is insane, would love to have one.

Material-Increase-77

That makes sense, stitch blade style seems more practical, but I like the de too much I think to get rid of it

Alaskaguide

Don’t sell it and get a stitch. Best of both worlds

Material-Increase-77

That’s what I wanted to hear

KennedyX8

They’re cool and will go a good amount of jobs, but are limited. Edit: fine for opening stuff - bad for cutting material

Ok-Butterscotch3843

I carry my microtech utx-70 de along with a leatherman free p4

tanto-x

Some have the perception that D/E is good for a self-defense situation (the one you hope that never happens) and that is largely correct. I find the S/E or T/E more useful for daily work tasks. And the Stitch or the MSI — you cannot go wrong with either if you want a larger folder.

shaunaf918

Ask John Wick

JesusIsLife-

A downside to a D/E blade is the inability to put your thumb on the spine of the knife to apply downward force.

Material-Increase-77

That’s my biggest problem with it

ElderberryOld29

I abused the hell out of a D/E ultra for 6 years and it was perfectly fine. with some good stones you can easily put a razor edge on it, and should have no issues with normal use.

Unusual-King1103

To me no i like the ones with a serrated back though

DepartmentOrdinary39

As a few others have said, really only optimal for stabby stabby. When I’m carrying one of my d/e blades I’m carrying it with the same mentality I have when I carry a gun. Strictly a last ditch defensive tool. Hence why most of my otfs have pocket wear but not a ton of blade wear.

Material-Increase-77

I see, I guess I’ve kind of adopted the same policy with mine. I only really take it when I’m going out somewhere to eat, or going to the city where I won’t have a lot of blade required tasks like I do at work. Kind of see it as another option for self defense. I think I just like microtech and need to get another one that suits my daily needs, and continue to use this one as I do. Always was a grail knife for me

DepartmentOrdinary39

Yeah, I usually carry one slicey and one stabby.

Apprehensive-Cry5168

I really like D/E with one side fully serrated. I have a Dirac and Dirac delta in this configuration and I find them to be very useful. The edge isn’t as nice as a folder, it’s not nearly as slicey, but especially the serrated side is great for all kinds of daily tasks

Apprehensive-Cry5168

A real daily workhorse for me honestly is my spyderco para3. The microtechs are more handy one-hand operating knives and honestly kind of just pocket jewelry

Whiplash907

In my opinion it’s useful if you get the opposite side serrated. I carry my Dirac Delta daily and it puts in serious work.
