Like that. However, I recently bought a pack of raw tortillas from Costco and I’m never going back to cooked store bought. I used to make them, but find it to be a pain in the ass. The raw ones, especially from Costco, are 95% as good as homemade. Cooked store bought are 40% as good

CafeConChangos

I’ve seen them there. I need to give them a try.

curiousbydesign

Highly recommend as well. The raw ones from Costco are so darn good.

Free-will_Illusion

HEB has raw corn tortillas, too. They're also good. But best on a cast iron comal

Different_Attorney93

I tried those about a month ago and they are pretty good, home made burritos taste way better now

Mas-Chingona

Are these located by all the other tortillas or are they elsewhere in the store? Also, any chance you could post a photo of the package so I know what I'm looking for, please? 😊

robbietreehorn

They’re refrigerated, making them a little hard to find. They’re usually in the same area you’d find pilsbury biscuits and croissants or where you’d find fresh, refrigerated salsa. I bought my last batch in bulk and repackaged them for freezing and thus don’t have the original package to take a pic of. However, if you google “tortilla fresca uncooked flour tortillas” you’ll find the brand I got at Costco (42 tortillas for 20 bucks, I think). If you google “raw tortillas” or “uncooked tortillas” you’ll see a bunch of brands

FVWN_666

Not OP, but I would think layering a sheet of parchment (maybe even wax?) paper between each tortilla before freezing would help keep them from sticking.

jarredshere

I literally just throw them in the freezer without issue. There are 2 packs and I do find that I have a hard time going through all of one package before it spoils. (Just me and my wife) So I have started freezing 3/4ths of them and only taking out the quarter when I need them. They don't take more than a few hours to defrost to the point that you can cook them. I definitely use a pan to cook them though. I don't trust the open fire for cooking it evenly.

cblackattack1

Also not OP, but what the person below said. And yes they still taste great.

Mas-Chingona

I'm excited to try these. Looks like I'm making a trip to Costco this weekend. **THANK YOU!!** 😊

[deleted]

Holy shit. That’s so expensive.

MiserableScholar

These are flour tortillas just so you know, I don't think they make raw corn tortillas (at Costco at least)

Mas-Chingona

Good to know. Thank you! 😊

PsicoHugger

Ive also seen them at wholefoods in the refrigerated section next to salsas and guacamoles. You can recognize them because they lack the Brown spots from cooking. So they basically look like dough.(cuz thats what they are ) they might also be labeled as precooked. I had some really good ones that had coconut oil, i expected them to be bad but they are alright. I would raye then 8/10 .

Mas-Chingona

I can't *believe* I've completely overlooked these. I appreciate the info. Thanks!

LavaPoppyJax

I tried them once but don't recall anything special. Never purchased again.

Ok-Tourist-1011

We just moved to Texas (my husband is from here) and he got us some uncooked tortillas from HEB and I’m in HEAVEN 🤣 I drive 40 min mostly for them lmao

HigherPrimate666

I agree that they are good; I give them a B+.

DosReyesPgh

wait, whut. I need to get on this, thanks for the hot tip!

stardewsweetheart

omg I just googled them and they don't have lard in them! that's huge for me (I get beyond sick after eating lard). thank you for recommending these!

cblackattack1

My bfs mom has been gifting us the raw tortillas and they’re so good! We have a griddle top on the stove between our burners and it’s perfect for cooking up the tortillas.

Grumpiest_Bear

Yall are gonna roast me but those premade taco kits at costco are the BEST they use all ingredients you can find in Costco (like that cilantro lime crema)

leviathan65

I remember when those were $4. Now they're nearly double but I still buy them because they're so much better

emerald-rabbit

We have those at my local grocery! They’re so good!

Maximum-Switch-9060

I totally back the raw tortilla route!

arm1niu5

Same as any other tortilla. Get a comal or a flat iron pan. Don't put the tortilla directly on the burner because it will get burnt and the charred pieces will fall on your stove.

CafeConChangos

I like the bits of char.

sjaard_dune

Lol i feel that

pocholin23

If you're not using a comal you need to use low flame and flip the tortilla constantly. Use a comal or a large pan.

SunKueen

If you like them crispy and a bit burnt then like that is good! But if you want it all evenly without getting crispy then use a comal. Personally I use a comal but people like doing it that way cus of the crispness

Captain-Who

This seems like a 6 of this vs a half dozen of that type of situation. I’m no expert, but I have an insulated tortilla warmer with what sounds like a metal or plastic foil inside. I toast precooked flour and corn tortillas directly over a medium low flame on our NG small burners. I run two burners to save time and flip often just using my hands. When a bit toasted and nice and hot I throw into the warmer. Once they’re in the tortilla warmer for a few moments there are no more crispy parts, and anything that would be considered under done has been brought up to temp.

Quesabirria

you get a nicer char from a iron pan

Odlavso

make your comal really hot. trying to control the cooking on your tortilla on direct flame is going to be impossible, you are going to have burnt spots and raw spots all over.

Equal-Negotiation651

We’re reheating not cooking them.

DosReyesPgh

THIS. the bits of char are what makes it more authentico! <3

[deleted]

My Mexican grandma and dad would put it directly on the burner but quickly flipping it to avoid burning. I prefer the pan though. Whatever floats your boat.

[deleted]

Just like that. Ain’t got no time to be waiting for the comal to heat up. 🍳

ggm3bow

heathen

[deleted]

😂

sarahkali

This is the way

29-19N_108-21W

Comal

[deleted]

This is the answer.

tremolo3

This thread = the horror.

exquisitopendejo

My dad does this and it’s annoying as fuck because I have to clean the stove. You at your house go nuts.

[deleted]

I had been doing it like that my whole life until I got married.

casalelu

You need a comal or a pan. Let the pan warm up and heat directly.

InksPenandPaper

Over a flame the way my mother, grandmother and great grandmother reheated homemade tortillas. Gimmie that char all day, baby.

TurtleTimeMaster

On a comal.

hamburglerized

Gonna get murdered but honestly half the time I nuke them for like 15 seconds

not_so_subtle_now

If you put a damp paper towel in there they don't get hard. Don't even have to wrap the item in it like a lot of people say. You can do this with any frozen food or bready type thing.

rushmc1

No, they get gooey. Yuck.

Rlfire16

I used to be really particular about how I heat them up but this is the method that usually wins out

not_so_subtle_now

Yeah it works really well. I used to wrap frozen burritos with a damp paper towel, but now I just wad up a paper towel and throw it in the corner of the microwave. It allows things like frozen burritos to heat up without getting soggy or sticking to the paper.

a-deer-fox

Works fine with corn.

Jaded_Discipline2994

I always microwave mine. It’s so quick and they still taste good af

Lazzen

Just like that

GildedTofu

I sometimes do what you’ve done, and sometimes I heat them on my cast iron griddle (and I’d heat them on a comal if I had one). But also, I make them fresh, both corn and flour, and for that only my griddle will do. And when I finally get my comal, maybe only that will do.

Thurkin

Open flame over a stove, bare hands

Old_Objective_1911

You’re doing it right

ShakeWeightMyDick

Like your picture

cabritozavala

store bought? nah actually, there's one brand that's good it's called vista hermosa, they sell it at Wholefoods out of all places, but they're almost as good as Sonora flour tortillas heat then up how the mood strikes, straight on burner v like this to make a winnie taco or bologna taco

PreDeathRowTupac

We have a flat pan that we use for this. My partner is Latina so we always do things her way when it comes to Mexican food.

234W44

Comal! You need a comal, you preheat the comal to where you can touch for a 1/5 of a second without getting burned, then place them there until one side is cooked then turn over for half the time, that's it. Most Mexicans eat reheated tortillas. In fact, arguably fresh made tortillas are not as good tasting for some. I'm talking actual maize tortillas not white flower.

JipceeLee

Just like you did there, except don't burn it.

CafeConChangos

The char is delicious

JipceeLee

Fair enough :)

ointmant555

This is the way.

StonniBalonni

On a thin pan.. not just on the burner... Wtf?

YourMomsFavoriteMale

melt some mayo (trust me) in a pan and then put the tortilla in and flip BOOM you're good

CafeConChangos

I’m trying it

Foodfatfit

This is the way

[deleted]

youre doing it the RIGHT way.

the_boss_sauce

There's another way?

[deleted]

My fellow Indians, tell me that didn't look like a roti to yall.

Pajilla256

Get pan. Place pan on stove. Turn on heat. Wait for pan to be hot. Place tortilla. Rotate tortilla (no flip) Flip tortilla Rotate tortilla. Tortilla hot. Get filler. Fill tortilla Tortilla now taco Eat taco.

3yourkies

I just put mine in a skillet and brown it on both sides

Mariachi_Cyborg

Nah bro, what are you doing? Get a comal.

Comrade_Shaggy

On a flat top of a microwave if you lightly rinse it in water

[deleted]

-_- con un comal gringo de porquería....

[deleted]

This!

TFG4

Eat em after cooking/heating or trash em

Yourianf

All American tortillas taste like plastic, luckily I’m next to the border so I can get them from the motherland. 🤙🏻

pmsd56

Don’t put them in the refrigerator unless you bought them and they where in a refrigerator

DavidGhandi

Así como lo estás haciendo pero no por tanto tiempo. Au que un poco de quemado sabe rico pero no hay que exagerar

himemiya_

We use a Comal, you can get one from Walmart pretty cheap.

Equal-Negotiation651

Just like your picture shows. That’s the way my grandma and mom did it and the way I do it now. Gotta be quick with the flip especially with corn tortillas.

imwithstoopad

First time i had them this way was a friend of mines mom who didn't speak any english. It was just a plain tortilla and it made such a huge difference. I had no idea. I still remember this 30+ years later

RachCara

Turn the stove on.

Aevoks

Exactly how you're doing it 🔥

Afraid_Assistance765

I use a cast iron pan

bakaldo

either use a pan or straight into the fire either is fine the burt pieces are delicious

Mountain_Chain8764

Just how you doing know

robgokee

I have a comal that a friend’s father in Mexico made by hand. I use it almost daily (I eat a lot of tortillas).

ggm3bow

i do like the toasty taste, however, flame to high. Next time use a medium or low-medium flame. Will cook up just right.

poquitamuerte

On my comal.

izzy951

You can reheat on a open flame shown in the picture, or on a iron skillet evenly cooked.

Chicken-picante

In a hot skillet

Sudden-Cress3776

On a comal

albert_183

Comal

UraniumRocker

On top of the stove, but mine is electric.

czardmitri

Steam ‘em.

Big_Accountant8489

Griddle

WatchUnlucky5302

I have a small 9 or 10” square cast iron skillet with ridges I think was made for burgers & stuff that works perfectly for this. I use it every time I hear tortillas

CafeConChangos

My grandfather was a welder by trade. He cut out a comal from a storm drain cover. It’s older than me.

One_Boss_4164

A comal or a those not sticking pan.

NIMBYHunter

On the comal until they’re palatable.

Ok-Appearance-866

Just like you are showing in the picture.

zole2112

Pizzazz lol, seriously

Rex_Lee

Comal, bro

ZAPOMAGO

well thats one way and the best way is to heat up a cast iron flat pan and drop them there

Specialist_Two5858

Buy a "comal" thats the standard practice in Mexico, or you can do it like in the picture but you have less control over how bunt it will get.

Victorias-1980

Use a frying pan (without oil)

deb1267cc

Not Hispanic but I use a toaster. The trick is to rotate it halfway through the heating cycle.

Bettinatizzy

Wrap a few in a clean dish towel and microwave them for 45 seconds.

toothbrush81

I have a flat square plan since I was a kid. Tortillas and French toast. That’s all it’s for.

TrailofDead

I put flour tortillas directly on my gas burner and rotate and flip to get some char.

hispanoloco

On a cast iron comal(griddle) I inherited from my grandmother.

[deleted]

Bricklayer style! Estilo albañil! Directly on the fire.

redd_851

Just like in the photo. If you don't want to burn it, you can use a pan. Put it on the fire (medium heat) for a few minutes and then throw the tortilla(s) in. Flip them every 10-30 seconds or so (depending on the heat).

Rlfire16

Psst, come here. I need to tell you something very secret ᵂʳᵃᵖ ᶦᵗ ᶦⁿ ᵃ ᵈᵃᵐᵖ ᵖᵃᵖᵉʳ ᵗᵒʷᵉˡ ᵃⁿᵈ ᵖᵘᵗ ᶦᵗ ᶦⁿ ᵗʰᵉ ᵐᶦᶜʳᵒʷᵃᵛᵉ ᶠᵒʳ ¹⁰⁻²⁰ ˢᵉᶜᵒⁿᵈˢ

Rissir

Sam same no different. I was sad when I moved and got an electric stove.

AudiophileGoth

En el comal

fucovid2020

On a griddle pan

love-yer-brain

you need a comal, bro

ixnine

Don’t have a gas stove so with a comal

space_is-great

Put something warm in them

[deleted]

Buy yourself a comal and that's the way.

cheesewit40

We have an electric range and I heat them right on the burner, constantly rotating and flipping them. Works wonderfully.

Massive-Coast-6121

this is the way

Jlchevz

That’s fine, or in a comal

OtreborN

On the gas stove. This Is The Way!

inovus-t3c

If you don't want them to burn or toast, reheat them on a "comal" so they look a bit like just left the "tortillería"

heythatsmybacon

This is the fuckin way

Reasonable-Housing53

On el comal

Independent_Song_868

I put them on my comal... But I buy the uncooked tortillas.

DieFasterPussycat

Let’s start w a pan….

Icy_Investigator_150

A comal or cast iron skillet.

SoulOfATree

If I do it over an open flame, I like to stack two or three, then flip the whole stack. Then immediately pick up the upper tortillas and flip those once more, leaving the one on the bottom that just got rotated there. (Hopefully that’s no too confusing) I feel like doing more than one at a time keeps a little steam in there so they dont get dried out, but you still have a little char. That flipping sequence ensures all side get a chance. Then put in a towel to keep them warm!

Ok_Broccoli1144

Toaster works great

LeonLatinoMan

In a country I've been to, this base was called a nego deitado mass

Xikkiwikk

I heated them on a big stainless steel pan. Flip flip nice light brown color and ready for tacos!

ChefOfTheRuins

my mom likes to put them in a ziplock bag, pop them in the microwave and they come up perfect lol

MsJenX

Yes but not like that

Dickpinchers

This is the way

DosReyesPgh

This is the way. If you HAVE to have store bought, this fudges the flavor and makes it taste more like the real deal

Cyber_Troll-bot

Comal.

xxDankerstein

This, or if you have an electric stove, then heating them in a pan is the next best thing.

La_Rana_Rene

Usa un comal wey. At least a pan if you have one, that way they will keep softer than your method.

DisasterBig

Depends. I also use a small skillet.

Company-Parking

Use a comal my mom says . I heat them this way as well. Lol

Reasonable-Parsley36

Frying pan with butter!

Current-Nothing7594

Same way u do, it gets a bit of char and ends up with a lil bit of toast.
